Not really. That chip is mediocre at best. Camera seems mediocre too. Any redmi is a lot more vfm than this.
I love the fact that they actually try to be unique. The glyph interface the design choices and the software are all top notch in my opinion for the price range

Exactly, at this price point there is no phone that is as good a package as the Nothing (2a) - also its uniqueness makes it stand out completely between other sub $400 phones
One thing lots of people seem to miss is that from the software side, android lets you download and use different launchers which means you can get practically the whole software side of the nothing phone on any android phone, just download a minimalist launcher.
the problem is they're trying too hard. they should have just focused on good software with good hardware and good service. all this glyph stuff is too much

Idk how many have noticed. The light in the back circles the letter ‘a’ and the circuit casing design in the bottom as 2 makes it “2a” which is a matured Easter egg sort of design element.

I have a Nothing Phone 2, and i am really glad i choose this one. simple, fast, lots of features and most used of all the Glyph lighting on the back, my phone has been on silent for months now because i see the notification happen. that notification light is so nice, ignore everything on your phone unless you set it up for different apps.
Is it difficult to remember what each glyph means?
@@aaravnagpal6469 Second NP2 user here... Short answer, no. There's only 1 essential notification glyph. Whenever that one is on, I know I have a text message or a missed call. Only people who I really trust and who are important to me have my number. The rest of the glyphs light up in different patterns according to what ringtone or notification noise you use. There's several different options preloaded and then there's a feature to upload your own sounds and have the phone figure out the appropriate matching glyph pattern for it. Works great. That being said, you have the ability to customize each app and each little notification that app can give you, to make a different noise, thus making a different pattern on the glyphs when it comes through.
Truthfully, I haven't bothered. I might one day. But for now I enjoy just having my essential glyph on demand and then my standard notification and ringtone when I'm not on "flip to glyph" mode

@@aaravnagpal6469i have a phone(1) and I just use it zo tell me I got an important notification while gaming and studying. It's really nice, cuz if you're focused on your work the phone won't even ding. Then when you're done you can see if you got anything important with the essential glyph and check it. It has helped me bring down my ost tremendously

Nothings design is a breath of fresh air. But it looks like they're pretty much doing exactly what OnePlus did back then. Enter the market with crazy good value products to reel in customers, and then successively adjust with each generation.
idk about crazy good value. They have good value but not great, other companies have caught up. If someone isn't interested in the design, then they're losing a huge chunk of the audience to others. They should've kept a normal design with better hardware like Oneplus did back in the day but ig that'd be too expensive so I think I understand why they did what they did. The Nothing phone 2 is awesome in every way it's just that the cameras aren't that great, like it's the same hardware as the Phone 1, yk you'd expect a small upgrade in cameras or something for the price hike and stuff but they didn't.
Hope they can get big enough one day to compete better, other companies need to reduce prices ASAP, they've gotten out of control. They can try getting some photographers from youtube to help tweak their camera software just like they did for the Nothing Ear with DMS. That'd help them squeeze out whatever potential their cameras might have.

The Nothing Phone 2a kind of cannibalizes the Phone 2 by having the same cameras and display. But still, it's an achievement at the price.
The 5 minute countdown is for back to back meetings. In an office environment you need to wrap up and get to next steps before bouncing to the next room or video conference. 20m wouldn’t make any sense for that purpose, but ideally its just a setting
Yea probably better to be able to set when to be notified, like you have a back to back meeting but you need 10m to change room or building if you only have a 5 min one it is too late
Can the essential mail notifications feature target a folder in the mailbox ? If so then your issue is easilly fixed by creating rules in your mail service.
Create a rule that moves shop sites to a shop folder, game sites to a game folder, familly and friends mails to a personnal folder, etc.. Then get the notifications to target the one you want.
Hey Arun, i really enjoy your content and usually 100% agree with your take but for this one i think you have just misunderstood the reason for the LED notification as you can still set regular notifications for things that you need to be aware of. And for the important LED that stays on its so that when you do end up looking at your phone you know there is an important message of some sort instead of just the flash that you would get with any other notification.

I think the true talent behind the editors of the videos who make the effects on this video goes underappreciated. Well done to you the effects look amazing and flow well with the video so they don't interrupt. I loved the unboxing animation and the transition animations especially.

I miss the small led notifications lights that we used to get on phones. Used to be able to customize each app notification to a specific color. Wish they’d bring something similar to newer phones but on the rear panel instead

I've been using phone 1 for a year now, mostly because I absolutely love the design. And I'm not a fan of the new one, for now I'm staying with phone 1. Which is also great, after a year of buying a cheaper phone I don't feel a need to swap, which I think is the most important. I've been comparing to really good phones and even when it's not as good, it's still good enough
I was thinking the last point as well. A small screen using LLM to summarize your notifications would actually allow to ignore the noise more.
I think one of the greatest strengths is seeing that super well put together UI with a consistent solid aesthetic. I wish when I opened my pixel

The design is creative and the lights are very helpful for reminding me to check important messages. After getting this phone i have never forgotten to answer any emails.
Had the v1 for years and I actually didn't realize focus mode and some of the other qwerks weren't on all phones.

It's amazing how marketing can rename "boring" to minimalism / blending in to the background /stripping back to natural.... etc.

I would like to have the old notification led back, which was located at the phones top section like with old Ericsson phones that you could see from front to rear and from top of the phone. Bring them back, those nice multicolor leds, that were user configurable to show various things like missed calls and notifications as well as charging status etc.
I'm enjoying my Phone (2) quite a bit. Very neat, massive upgrade from my Xiaomi. I did face some issues but those were fixed quite quickly - good official and community support.
Nothing's doing something different in a good way. Good luck to everyone involved!
Which Xiaomi are you from?
If you remember, Xiaomi had a phone, which has one single dot of led on top of the screen which you can customize the color, for whatever notification you want. For example if you have a high priority, you can set it to red (or blue doesn't matter). It is persistent, reliable, yet simple as hell.

the better implementation for the glyph concept would be say a cover screen on things like a z flip phone, does the same thing but can display more useful information like timers, etc.

Great review. I think nothing is yet to make a splash in the market. It's not they are doing it wrong but honestlybi apart from the glymph interface theres nothing much in to it....

Sony has also done that with their notification dot. There's green for charging or if the battery is still good, red for lowbat, white for notifications and sometimes blue for unknown reasons.

i like how you mentioned the thing about the back screen. i currently use an android flip phone, the Kyocera 902kc, and it, like most japanese flip phones nowadays, has an external OLED 15hz screen that displays summarized information like what time it is, the battery, who's calling you, and has one of those old android 8 era colored LEDs that will flash with the app's color. it will also let you know if you got an unread SMS or a missed call with a little icon representing such.
maybe that's where we could moving forward to?
I love the fact that the specs get the minimum time in his videos because I can read them by myself and rather the conversation with the viewer about the device which I actually want to hear

I have never heard of this phone and don't have any interst in buying a new phone but arun can just make a great video worth watching about literally anything. Even if you aren't particularly interested in it
Been an iPhone user my whole life, not because I purely want to but it helps with the industry I work in as I use all Apple tech for work.
Honestly this is the first time I am thinking of dropping the iPhone and getting a Nothing phone. I'm going to see where the brand is at by September-October time and potentially make the change and give it a go.

What I love about your content is that you tell us what is a pro and a con, or you tell us everything important and let us decide if it’s good or bad. Other UA-camrs are like “okay so you could buy the new iPhone but it doesn’t survive being hacksawed or hit with a hammer so clearly you’re aren’t going to get a good phone.” It’s exhausting.
I think it would take another solid 3 to 4 generation to see how the glyph interface evolves and whether it is a solid game changer or not. But for now it just acts as a distinct differentiating features that others don't have.

That camera processing delay is most likely a software optimization issue. My nothing phone 2 takes some time to process stuff too. Just about what you showed in the video.

The feature with specific notification is so good i have been using it for so long by pairing my smartwatch with the phone, i had a bad habit of always checking my phone whenever it vibrated but now i have selected only two important apps that i actually care about and whenever a notification comes from those apps my watch vibrate and i can check those while ignoring all other notification vibrations from my phone.
I adore the low pitch tones; easy on the ears but still can hear them loud and clear
I would describe the Phone (2a) as the "iPhone" of midrange Android - nothing too fancy, but it's a well balanced phone that gets the job done. Nice one Nothing! 💯

Thing is, the Poco F3 for example has similair specs, (slightly faster cpu but less ram) glass back, better fingerprint reader, IR blaster, included charger, case and headphones, and costed the same at release, but that was Three. Years. Ago.
But how has it performed over the years? I want to buy a phone that would last me 4 years minimum, focus is on the endurance rather than pure performance per price
F3 is really great. Still using it. Sure, there are no official uodates but u cab still use xiaomi eu or custom roms. The development from the community is insane and u can use the phone for a long time
@@starliner2498 I still have the POCO F2 and still performs really well even for flagship games.
Much smaller battery, much worse camera, similar cpu but 7nm chipset vs 4nm in nothing so big difference in efficiency, and obviously the notorious Poco software.

The point about the lights being useless bc you need to flip the phone around anyways is really good. Maybe they should just add a small screen on the back for their flagships in the future and the glyph can be their budget option.

The amount of questions and cool factor people have given my Phone 2 is worth the glyph and the design alone.
I don't think 1 week passes without someone asking me about it.
I also like the glyph notification because it just flashes quick letting me know I have a notificaiton without my whole screen lighting up taking my focus away to my phone.
It may be a gimmick but I really like it.
I've been a loyal Samsung lover for YEARS but I haven't regret going with the Phone 2 at all.
I believe what nothing has been doing is pretty impressive. The main deal is the software for me, as long as they can keep it this good and minimalistic, I am in. I hope they will continue that👍
Nothing OS looks buttery smooth. I was going for Moto edge 40 Neo. Now I'm going to get this Nothing 2a.
i feel like if they implemented some software to detect words in your notifications and then they'd use ai to identify if it's important or you could set a list of words that would trigger the important notifications it would help with the issue at 8:40

Android has always asked for the phone's password to turn off the internet or turn on the airplane mode (at least that's what I saw on Samsung). its kind of a security issue
I thought that too when I saw it. Anyone can steal your phone, hit the button and then you will never find it. I also don’t get turning your phone onto airplane mode overnight anyway. I use do not disturb but still allow phone calls, if anyone has an emergency that is worth phoning me for then I don’t mind that as long as all notifications are silenced.

the Sony Xperia L had a notification light on the bottom of the phone so you could have the phone hang in like a bag and let the light stick out, you could color code apps and messages so you would know which app or person was texting you. i really liked it. too bad they don't really do such notification lights anymore.
