Still the best looking phone out there imo
Do more videos about Asus Rog ally
Dave, I see a lot of grain/noise on black backgrounds especially on the overhead shots at 4k. Love your candid approach of conveying your message about products!
Le S23 lavender
Agreed
It should have IP 67/8 rating which could justify the pricing , there are better options below that price point (mi 12 pro , s22 plus, OP11R )
I'm so glad that Dave still has the appreciation of calling 600USD not cheap. They are certainly not and just because companies are releasing 1000+ USD phones all the time doesnt mean suddenly the 6~700 are defined as cheap and should get compromised further.
Worst are people pretending that's budget phone range
Heck I've never bought a phone that's more than 250 dollars equivalent. I've found literally no point to it.
I honestly don't understand why people buy such expensive phones. I live in India and am using a mid-tier samsung galaxy m51 phone for $200 since 2.5 years and am perfectly content with it. 7000 mah battery, decent camera for a non-photographer, no call issues and no lag in everyday tasks. What more does one want from a phone? I think no phone should be priced above $300 USD. Everything above it is wasteful expenditure.
Blame that on the greed of companies...but also blame it on phones becoming ever more complex
I think there'll come a time when we'll be telling our kids/grandkids about the uproar that was caused when Apple first started selling phones for a thousand dollars and they'll say "really...a thousand dollars?...you can't even get an entry level smartphone for that nowadays"
@@akshar8160 I did the same in india, but since I have moved out I switched to an iPhone. Couple of reasons, first is reliability. I am buying a standard where I am guaranteed performance if I dont mess with the phone too much. And in the US and some other countries you can basically exchange your phone for free if you have something that is still in circulation. But sofware-wise I am not convinced these phones are worth it, only hardware and return-wise they are justified
Dave2D is the guy you watch when you want an actually honest review!
fact
Honestly, I have ignored any reviews about it. Now dave2d posted it. I'm interested
Honestly tho because others who do reviews just talk about things they like. And read off of spec sheets and stuff. Dave actually tells you who the product will be good for.
dave is about simplicity and straight to the point which i like, but i think the best reviewer of all time is still: Mrmobile (michael fisher). I only watch him and dave
@@kregorboisDave is great; love his approach.
Wow, nothing's changed.
😂 Underrated comment, for sure!
Seeing the title and the brand name.... hmmm makes you think what they have actually been doing since the launce of the last model... i guess.... Nothing!
😂
so? apple makes the same phone every year and people flock like sheep
@@sammy3347 iPhones are light years ahead of this. I haven't used an iPhone since the 5 but they have better cameras, better processers, better battery, better security, and arguably better software than this garbage. Why would anyone buy this over a Pixel or iPhone?
that's why i love Dave2D. he is super honest. give very clear advise. And He understand 600usd is expensive.
In Dave, we trust .
I agree... but what about MKBHD?🤔
@@tonygaya he is good, but still I prefer Dave2D.
@@techworld3043 that's cool

Yes he certainly is one of the most reviewers out there...
Him and Flossy Carter.
Definitely
Maybe Nothing wasn't too happy with this review, so Dave did not receive his 2a unit.
No matter what anyone says, that Glyph LEDs on the back will always be a gimmick to me. You flip the phone and see more information than what is displayed on the back on those LEDs and its whole purpose gets defeated.
Honest review by Dave again. 👍
yep doesn't make sense..
I think people that rely on their phone for work or school to some degree will appreciate the basic back “notification center” if you will
Just like the Anime matrix on the Asus Zephyrus G14 in my opinion 😂😂
Why would anyone want to see an estimate of the charging %age, timer or volume on the back when the front can give you an accurate reading is beyond me
Yep, just seems like a huge scam to me
100% agree. I don't understand how this phone has got so much publicity off the back of cheap gimmicks.
Man Dave, what a guy. Love it when he shows other youtubers in his sample videos.
Never seen your reviews before. Quick, to the point, uncluttered and honest. Have another subscriber my friend!
If you are an enthusiast, you were missing out.
For me at that price point, it’s dead in the water. The glyph interface is great but no more than a gimmick. You get a notification light, the you have to turn the phone over to check the AoD, the unlock the phone.
How many people using phones with always on displays, place their phones face down?
Seems like a strange usp in the crowded midrange space.
i think it really depends on the user. i much prefer leaving my phone face side down and i rarely use my aod but maybe i'm weird lol
i find it too tempting to look at notifications and stuff when i have my AOD up
You would probably leave your phone face down if you had this phone
@@Dave2D I think different people will use it differently, as far as the glyphs go, I feel they are more like a surface level notification indicator which will prevent people from using their phone too much, AOD just pulls you in to use your phone more.
@@Dave2D I can understand that. I use focus on my iPhone to make sure I’m not distracted by notifications when I can’t afford to be. I think it’s called “work” or something.
@@cRAYz3d Good point. Still an extra step to finding out who is calling or what that email is.
That's why I jumped into nothing phone 1 last year, and I new that they would not be able to compete in that price point forever, oh well, it was good when it lasted:)
Thanks Dave for painting a real picture here. Appreciate the honesty with highlighting the true pros and cons.
Pretty lights... but i think at the price point I'd be more inclined to go with the Zenphone10. Next gen SOC, better battery, better camera, subjective I guess but to me better looking.
Good point. They have a lot of competition at their new price point. Not sure this stands out enough, despite Carl’s sales pitch.
The other problem around the price is once the price is set for that model then future phones will either have the same price or more likely increase in cost.
Not necessarily, phones have been known to go down in price especially recently. Look at the pixel phones and iPhones after the X/XS

It's the Apple model. Get them hooked, then up the price.
Dave did not try saying Zomato 😂
For anyone wondering, its supposed to be pronounced like tomato(the second tomato in tomato tomato)
That bottom bezel, it’s like the iphone, so thin, love how the phone looks
Would love a compact version for nothing phone 2 even if just slightly bigger than the zenphone 10
Very well presented. One of the best and honest tech reviewers. Clear and straightforward advise.
I always wait for Dave2D reviews before checking any other UA-camrs. Concise, making the most crucial points, without any BS or clearly biased comments, many thanks!
Your review changed my mind. I'll probably wait for new pixel coming out in sep.
I love how Carl Pei is up to the game in stock android like OS. He did it with Oxygen OS and now the nothing os is just clean.
Isn't it a combination of keeping development costs down and playing to the enthusiast market to grow the brand? He is good at marketing and business growth.
@@armadillito well one of the main reasons why Oneplus lost users or market share is due to integration of ColorOs and Oxygen Os. Currently oneplus operating system is nothing like Oxygen Os and guess what, it happened exact time Carl Pei left. Yes, he's good at marketing but my focus is just how good he is to able to pull off such a clean OS.
@@adenogram I see what you mean. But I don't know if Carl Pei is a great proponent of clean android versions, or whether those events just coincided as OnePlus completed its transition to being a mass market brand.
Wow what an honest review. Highlighted plus points but didn't shy away from mentioning the painful price hike. That's why Dave is my favourite tech reviewer. He is just so genuine.
Love your videos dave! You inspire many ❤
Looking forward to finally getting one in the USA!
right?? and with proper band support for most carriers
@@Dave2D I know! I have T-Mobile and always wanted to pull the trigger on getting the Phone 1 but never did. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it through some sort of promo now. Especially after the price hike to $599 for the “base” model.
Carl made a valid point when it came to the old gen SD 8+1 , how they could optimise it more efficiently compared to the new gen SD . Some might not want it but for the price , it’s a good deal tho . Otherwise you could still go for S22 or an S23 which has similar specs .
Dave please keep doing this exactly this way, keep it true and real… love the honesty 👍
I been a big fan since back when I got my first gaming laptop, from watching your video. Dell Inspiron laptop GTX 1050ti, i7 7800th. As years fly by. I been looking forward to each every one of your videos. I hope you post more!
no worries, nothing products usually go on sale pretty quickly after launch, hence why they build in the buffer. It is still a cool phone and I will wait till it cost 400 to get it
Notification LEDs used to be the norm, what happened? I miss them.
right??! they were so useful. they used to even hide them in the earpiece and stuff
Best was the color. Green for WhatsApp, blue for Facebook etc
Great video Dave. It’s interesting how Nothing has pivoted its pricing strategy given just last year Carl Pei was speaking about building an affordable phone for the masses.
Love the Charlie's knife video clip lmao.
I love that you put pricing in consideration
2:13 They nerfed the Phone 1. When I got it, the center piece used to be able to light up in six different zones, but now it only works as a whole.
Loving the longer hair dave!!
This method is perfectly working with my device. Great job. Keep it up.
I was going to hit the like button before even watching, because you always address this phones with exactly the questions am looking for and am surprised at how honest you can be even with an embargo. Great points great review.
True, talking to enthusiasts is an excellent brand strategy. What requires balls is to stick to the enthusiasts as your audience (which is the initial brand promise), accept that you will not compete with the commercial giants, and be proud of the fact that you are dedicated to your audience and they are committed to you. Instead, just like OnePlus, this is just the initial smoke before they reveal that they are in this for the money and "nothing" else.
Exactly. All companies need and want to make money, it's just the way they go about it that makes the difference. Nothing is doing what the essential phone company wanted to do, which is to create an ecosystem for enthusiast. And while I must admit the translucent style is really sick and it even started a few Trends in the headphone Market, it may eventually dissolve into what OnePlus is turned into as well. I really hope not but there's no way that this can be sustainable without selling a ton of units and as Carl has also mentioned there's still a very small company. So it's hard to imagine they don't sell out or eventually get phased into a conglomerate to stay alive. That said, staying within that 5 to $600 range is pretty smart since that seems to be the most competitive market right now and they definitely stand out in terms of some of their features despite them not really being the best in terms of value overall
Nice Haircut Dave :) Looking smooth 😎
He crammed all the my first impressions and thoughts in this one short yet beautiful video..... before this i was kinda annoyed why no one else is talking about these things.
Dave is definitely one of the most honest and down to earth reviewers out there.
I have the Nothing Phone (1). Reason I got it was because of the price. It's a solid mid-tier phone and that's what I want to use it as. Nothing Phone (2) changed that. Making it near flagship territory, but not really. The glyph interface is cool and all, and did turn heads, but it's just a gimmick. At this point, I rather get a Pixel 7a.
An iPhone
@@shukracharya_ get out
I was going to coment something similar, this is EXACTLY what I think about it too
Yeah we have better phones if we go above that 600 doller mark.
So, my friend got Nothing Phone 2 + 65W GaN charger for INR 40,000 wiz roughly 480 dollars. And that's a really good deal in my opinion.
The shot at 0:13 onwards is sooo cooool
Great review man. You answered my curiosities better than the other reviews on this phone I've seen. ❤️
I just ordered the grey one. Can’t wait!
They should have used mid tier cpu and keep the price down.
same. i like those mid tier chips
Snapdragon 7+ gen2 would have been perfect. But alas.
I considered pixel 7a and phone 2 would be competing here, but 7a definitely takes the trophy considering the price and user experience
I will go for it. Have the 1st since for moths and I am very happy with it.

The quality and production value of certain product shots is commendable.if you are a fellow viewer reading this, go back to 00:12 and see the all white shot being set up..
The only problem with Glyph lighting is, your phone should always remain face down. It is also a very very niche implementation and use case scenario. This is like adding LED lights to the interior of your car from an accessory shop. Also, more damage prone now if the back shatters.
i suppose it will help with controlling screentime. Also imagine its practicality..outdoors, during study..etc no need to turn on screen..
The CEO of Nothing said the Phone 1 itself (excluding logistics and other added costs) costed $360 to build, which gave them pretty much 0 profit margin. It's not surprising the Phone 2 is at this price point due to inflation and wanting to get more profit.
There's also the aspect of where you manufacture your phone and how well optimised the chain is. Given the first phone sold more than 750k units in a year they probably worked on improving those things. And the first one also got great discounts a few months after the launch so they'll do that this time as well. So they're just trying to make the hype money before they lower the price the way google and samsung do.
Glyphs aren't cheap but it's very risky to bank on that being the USP. I don't think it's about the profit so much as the more staff, more stores more countries the phone is now available in. Will they sell more units than the first? Time will tell. For me it depends on that camera quality and the software improvements they have made there still wavering on that pre-order button.
If the pixel call screening feature was available on other phones, I would totally get this or the zen phone
It’s the Pixel’s killer feature IMO
Iphones are getting it
Im still on my nothing phone (1) and im glad i didnt chose to wait for the phone (2), the $899 AUD price tag for the 256gb/12gb option was really appealing to me
I'm really interested in these. Something different, in a sea of sameness. Glad you made a review on it.
I know they are starting out but companies like Asus are able to squeeze the latest SoC in the Zenfone with the device occasionally going for £699. I don't think this phone is a good deal unless you love the brand in particular.
Finally someone has the audacity to call this phone overpriced
Loved the nothing OS 2.
I love the fact that he said, this phone is coming to high pricing n entering those area where company provides one of the best camera, n other specs n not just the slightly design feature
NP1 user here. I am absolutely disappointed after this launch.
Not because the NP2 is a bad phone: because I'm disappointed in my old phone for not being able to wait 3 more months before dying on me.
The price bump seems a little bit beyond my liking but for what it's worth, I think it makes total sense.
My only quip (essentially a worry) is whether the Nothing OS 2.0 will be coming to the old device or not.
I'll probably spiral into depression if it doesn't.
i think it's supposed to. there doesnt' seem to be any features that wouldn't be adoptable in NP2. except for the controllable glyph interface
nothing os 2.0 is coming to phone 1 before the end of August, they already officially confirmed.
It's coming in a month
NP 1 users will get almost every features of Nothingos 2.0 in the month of August, they've said it already
Tons of videos on nothing (2) have been posted, yet I came to Dave for the first impressions.
the shot with the speakers 7:05, Dame Dave2D
I think I'm not the only one who thought about the Nokia OG phone back in the 90's / 2k's when Dave said about the "Composer" feature on this phone.
I miss LED flashes on phones. Without including my phone I could tell which app notifications I had, without waking my phone. AOD has replaced that, but I usually have that off to save battery. Good to see the glyphs are a cry back to this and then some with the timers. I would to see other manufacturers adopt something similar to this or at least bring back LED indicators in some form.
Missed opportunity to title video as "Nothing's changed"
Woah that all white sequence of the phone is insane 🔥🔥
1:35 It does Nothing. Not surprised by a company named
Nothing
I really wanna to see more smaller phones like galaxy s23 and iphone mini series
If nothing phone makes a good beautiful all around phone that is about 5.7 inch size ,that would be awesomee
i still use my 5S phone, and each time i went outside to hang on with my friends, they were amazed by how fit this phone on their hands... they were like "wow, this is nice! how do you get this phone, dude! it just fits perfectly, comfortable in my hands.."
they seem forgot earlier phones were compact...
@Djalanidhi
Me too , i use an iphone 6 and its just soo much better for casual use then this new big hvy plasticy or even glass phones that doesnt even fit in your pocket
IMO, the glyph interface is a gimmicky feature whose novelty dies out after a few days. The main problem is that it's on the back which is not the usual position phone is kept rested (or held in hand) . It defeats the purpose of integration with things like volume control and timer. However, Nothing OS is really fluid and has unique dot-matrix design elements. If Nothing can focus on ironing out some bugs in Nothing OS and improve the camera quality, they'll have a winner on hand.
That's the worst argument I've ever heard against it. The glyph is supposed to make you spend LESS time on the screen, not more, where else would it be if not on the back? Why even bother with it if you just want people to stare at the screen? You are SUPPOSED to rest phone screen side down. It's essentially a silent switch built in. The volume nitpick I can kind of see, but everything else about it is terrible criticism.
Why Dave always running 😂 man in the end saying goodbye like he gotta be in Rome in 2 min
Thanks for the vid, just got one ordered.
I like Carl's vision on tech. So many smart phones look the same. I used OP since the 3, but with all the security issues from Oppo, OP, and other manufacturers from chinese markets via Nato and other security reports, i wanted a western brand phone. Its sad to move away from those phones...
It sounds funny but google 7 and 7pro cant compete because they charge so slowly - my oneplus 7 pro charges faster and its over 4 years old. And samsung isnt worth the extra price unless you are using your phone for very advanced tasks.
I hope more companies move to an defined aesthetic instead of being such a commodity.
Keep up the great work and videos!
I think dot light at the bottom would have been better for priority notification. What do you think?
Yeah. Notification lights are cool and they work flawlessly.
600$ a bit hard to digest but i think this pricing is fair mainly because of the SoC they have put this time however i still don't get the hype of glyph lighting because in practical day to day use nobody notices that much.
Yes, exactly this! The phone is going to be screen facing up most of the time, so what is the point? Cool but a waste of money.
Random strangers would notice it lol.
Any item/object (?) that have a gimmick always attract someone that doesn't own the gimmick item/object.
Dave watching charlie was something I didn't expect
Pls bring full review soon!
i would have purchased this but the fact the camera is not there. that is the only thing. it is amazing that it stitches raw images instead of jpeg images. do that but also with a better camera system. excited to see that implemented into the nothing 3. will purchase if it can beat every other phone because of the raw image stitching as well as having the best camera to go with it. really rooting for them. i like their style
For a new camera to the company and with new processing, I think it does great. With a few optimizes in the future it will definitely do amazing 👍🏼
To be honest i thought 599$ was a freaking steal for the specs. The europe price though puts it kind of on par with the oneplus 11 and in that case maybe the OnePlus eleven would be a better deal. But even then i may still pick this one over the op 11 because i prefer the software
BBK group has left Germany and might leave even more European countries... I think staying away from them might be a good option for the Europeans till the whole patent thing comes to an end
I love Dave's videos. His reviews are great, and he focuses on the most important stuff. I love his laptop reviews, but he is not posting enough reviews on laptops. There are many new laptops about which I want to hear about his views - Hp Omen Transcend, Asus Zephyrus M6, Lenovo Legion Slim 7i etc.
Wooo finally a Dave 2d approved video! Finally waited forever!
the question i have is how will they keep the back design fresh? what's their plan for the longevity of this back design? if this is they signature design, how many times will they be able to use it before it gets boring?
How many times can Apple do a glass back with an Apple logo and a rounded square camera cut out with three lenses or Samsung a frosted glass back.. With a Samsung logo and a 3 lens vertical orientation layout. 'Nothing' could roll with this design for like 5 years and still be the most unique looking phone on the market everyone else does the same stuff every year. Nothing has a tear down look with LEDs that's not gonna be dry for a while against the decidedly dry and uninteresting competition and I'm a Samsung user 🤣
@@ThirdPlaceEntertainmentWrong point. The iPhone and Samsung are already at the top of their class. For Nothing this is mostly all they have to differentiate themselves.
@@ThirdPlaceEntertainmentwell Apple and Samsung don't go on about how tech is boring. Carl Pei does so we expect that from Nothing. I hope not but I think the promises and talks Carl made can be compiled into a things aged poorly video idk i 5-6 years
Nice and detailed explanation. I don't think that the Phone (2) has gone to the way of OnePlus, as they're not even using the latest flagship chipset nor having the fastest charging etc. It's still a "let's not look at spec sheet" phone, and Nothing should stay consistent with this.
Carl pei is doing same things at nothing as he had done at oneplus. Marketing strategy to pricing, specs. All over again.
I concur...Phone (2) is still more Apple than OnePlus/Samsung/Xiaomi

You may choose to agree or disagree with that thought process, but I was just pointing out that the route OnePlus took was VERY different than the one Nothing is taking and I appreciate it for that.
But the price jump is very OnePlus and that's the mistake they made. With a new brand it's a hard balance for Carl to give us something better and stay at the price point for early adopters.
My first ever smartphone was Samsung Galaxy S3. My parents got it for me when I just started highschool and I remember it costing like 400 euros. Mind me, it was a flagship phone during that day and age. These days, 600 euro phones are barely considered mid tier and 600 isn't anywhere close to being cheap.

Samsung lower end devices have always been problematic. They start hanging up within 2year of their use. Only buy samsung flagships.
Is samsung 20 line cursed i have heard so many complaining about 20fe, note 20 ultra like display goes or starts showing lines. What is wrong with your phone ? I am thinking of buying note 20 ultra myself, at the price point nothing phone 2 seems very good choice

I really love the Nothing Phone. The only reason I decided not to buy the first one is the camera. It was quite unimpressive, and for photography purposes there are way better options out there. This is what we call a proper honest intial review!
It's a new contender, startup company. I love their Ethos. I preordered. I like where this company is going.
The Nothing Phone 2 is very difficult to recommend. While I love the transparent back, the glyph design is now further segmented, but still looks laughably arbitrary (is it trying to be a deformed Apple logo?) with spacing between the segments that gives the impression their designer got their degree from nothing college. As you mention, its price range stacks it against the Pixel 7 and 7a which in my opinion is tied with the iPhone 14 for greatest phone, due to its cameras and software. I also am not a fan of the pillowed glass back, which adds unnecessary thickness.
Yeah pixels are much better in this price range. And yes i would also prefer the pixels over np2. Cause i will be using the phonr for at lease 2 to 3 years and i will need good experience since glyphs are ultimately gimmicks.
Going the way of the OnePlus
Oh well one+ all over again.. I bought the 1+1 and if not for the sandstone finish crumbling 2 years ago taking the power and volume buttons I'd still be using it.
