- The new Boss RE-202 delay and reverb combination is such an amazing pedal. This was my first chance to sit down with it and I am super excited to explore it more. I don't own an original Space Echo but some people who have say that the RE-202 is as close as it gets to the real thing.
My signal chain is just telecaster into the Chase Bliss & Benson Preamp mkII, Space Echo into the Strymon Iridium. I’m also using a Ditto X2 for a loop in the background that I built using only the Space Echo and the Preamp mkII.
Great demo! You’ve got this pedal dancing on the edge of crazy feedback yet manage to control it. Really inspiring!
Thank you. It was a fun one to make.
Amazing vid. The most beautiful sounding demo of re-202 I’v ever watched. I donno why but we have 10 days left for the earliest shipping in Japan. I can’t wait.
Thank you.
Mesmerizing demo! Great job!
Thank you.
Mine arrives tomorrow can’t wait good video
You’ll be very happy. It really is an awesome recreation of the original.
wow, i think i'll buy that pedal! Thanks for sharing!💯
It really is an almost perfect recreation of the original. Thanks.
Mine's 'on the way'. Apparently they are not so easy to get. Great video.
Thanks so much. I appreciate that. Have fun.
This is my favorite demo I’ve seen of this pedal! I have one question though; how easy is it to press the buttons for instrument/line level, tape age, etc? I play a lot of punk shows in tight quarters, and people stepping on my pedals while they dance is pretty common, so I’d be worried about my guitar becoming a line level signal mid-song and hurting my speakers.
I think you’d be alright. This pedal is so good it might be worth it. Haha. But Someone could definitely step on the buttons on top. They aren’t too hard to press.
@@buildingaloop.4730 Awesome, thanks! If it becomes a problem I’ll just have to diy a little guard for it haha
That's cool! :) Can I ask - from about 2:20 onwards it sounds like you were doing vol knob swells ? Did you keep these going all the way through alongside other picking ? or were these on a looper ?
Thank you. Yes I built a loop before I started and turned it on a little after the start. That loop was also built using only the space echo. No other effects were used except the Chase Bliss Preamp mkII for a clean tone. Thanks for watching.
@@buildingaloop.4730 Ah o k, what looper did you use, as it wasn't listed, that's the only reason I asked as couldn't work out how you could do a loop and play that just using a preamp, re202 and iridium :)
Right. Yeah I should add that. It’s just a ditto x2.
@@buildingaloop.4730 That's fine, as long as I wasn't going mad trying to do the same live without a looper :) lol!!
@@buildingaloop.4730 Sorry, last q! Looper *after* the re202 for that swell thing?
Does it have the reverse mode?
No. No reverse on the Space Echo.
RE 202 or Strymon Volante?
Both at the same time.
They’re both so different. Different sounds for different things. Love them both.
A real shortcoming of the thing is that the sockets for inputs and outputs are far too close together. I really had problems finding two cables where the connecter is not too thick. You can also see here in the video that the two output connecters are not straight. I don't know why Boss made them so close together, there is a lot of unused space on the back. Of course, there is nothing wrong with the sound.
I’m actually using a cable where the tip is a little bent. I didn’t find any issue with the output spacing.
I own this and have no idea how to change the reverbs. The instructions are in poor English and I've tried my best to follow (says to hold down the Tap switch, turn the unit on (I'm guessing that means either plug it in or push the on/off switch? I tried both ways) and then turn the mode selector to 12 then press the memory button to go through different reverbs. Nothing I've tried works.
It was very awkward at first. You are doing it right. I like to just put the mode selector on 12 before I do anything. Hold tap, plug it in, press the memory button and leave it on the number you want, then hit the tap button to get back to the regular setting on the pedal. It took a me a minute to figure it too.
@@buildingaloop.4730 thank you for the helpful reply. So if I understand right, anytime you want to change reverb styles you have to unplug the pedal? Oof. Really wish I knew this before pulling the trigger :(
I know. It’s def not the best design. But if you want, you can save a different reverb to each memory slot and I believe that will allow you to cycle through the different reverbs.
I think you have unplug and plug in or power down and power up to do a lot of the functions on it but I think the preset options will a little.
Mine isn’t switching reverb types either and it’s pissing me off. I turn it to mode 12 while it’s off, hold tap while turning it on and tap flashes quickly then goes solid. Switching memory won’t change the reverb type
U2 or pink Floyd cover band, fine, anything else,,,hmmm
