Since a lot of people are offended by the title: This is a follow-up to another video that established that while the town is labeled the most racist, you can't judge the entire town by the KKK which has its HQ there. The video is titled ironically to demonstrate again that the town isn't as bad as its been made out to be. The point is everyone should be more open-minded and not treat others based on prejudice. They aren't saying the whole town is racist.
The word "racist" was created for control on free mericans, its a form of shaming. Um, go to Minn, Mich, new yark cali, oregon, you will hear some stuff that will make Howard Stern blush. LOL!
They are talking to an Asian guy. If you were a racist, would you express your racism directly at his face? Of course not. To be fair, if you travel into the heartland of China, which I have done, it’s much the same as this. I lived in China for six years and traveled a lot for my job. Although people are fairly knowledgeable about the USA, because they learn in school English starting in second grade (so they know English greetings), there’s extreme ignorance about Europe and Latin America. So many times I would find people that didn’t know what language was spoken in Mexico or Cuba or Argentina or Spain. They had never even heard of Spanish. They wouldn’t know the difference between Spanish, Italian and French. I also had teenage students who thought that London is the capital of the USA. I also met people who thought that the English language originated in the USA, not in England. I think the bigger a country is, and the more self-sufficient it is in providing its own entertainment/movies/songs/TV, the more ignorant it is of the outside world, especially if people don’t live in cosmopolitan cities that don’t get a lot of foreign visitors and workers. The people in Shanghai are much more internationally savvy than the people in Yinchuan. Same thing with the people who live in NYC and this people in this heartland town in the video.
TBH, it's very understandable. Why would a rural Chinese person learn about the details of European or Latin American languages. The vast majority will never go to any of those places and learning about them won't be useful in any practical way to them.
@@PerfectSense77 Came from rural China and I can definitely confirm this. In rural China when I was there, we never really thought about other countries or their culture and language because we were just focused on making ends meet. What annoys me the most is that when people think of Asia, they most likely only refer to East Asia. They forget India, all the "Stan" nations, most of the Middle East, and most of Russia are also in Asia.
My personal experience was the opposite when I was growing up in the UK. There were so many times when I got excited that an Asian was featured in a magazine, only to find out that it was a South Asian and never an East Asian like me (not hating on anyone, we ARE all Asians, it just felt like people who looked like me were never represented). Instead of “racist town” title, you should put “most culture isolated town”. I’m sure a lot of people are not racist but are not aware of how much has changed or how they were raised these parts of the towns. I think it disrupts their comfort about the changes regardless if it’s a new store, different ethnicities, taxes, laws that makes everything more complex for every individual because there are a lot of people now compare to how it was back then.
You know, I think this is a really underrated response. I was honestly surprised when I agreed with you that "most culturally isolated" might be a more appropriate assignation than "most racist." I mean, at the end of the day, racism is just the result of ignorance, but sometimes people are so ignorant (through no fault of their own) that they don't even know they're ignorant. It's happened to me several times coming from a small town in the deep American South. And I love learning where I'm ignorant! It's room for growth!
This town is not the "most culture isolated town" however, there are Amish towns that are more culture isolated than this town while also being less racist
@@tb8654 I don't disagree with you, but I would play devil's advocate: while I wholly agree that there are non-racist Amish communities, is it really fair to label one town as "the most racist town in America" when their education system has so clearly failed them? Some people in rural middle America don't receive that same thoughtful education.

They aren't saying the whole town is racist.

I guess the lesson is not to believe stereotypes about groups of people. For the "most racist" people in America, they don't sound very racist.
They are talking to an Asian guy. If you were a racist, would you express your racism directly at his face? Of course not. All they are doing is abiding by basic manners while talking to a stranger, no matter their actual belief. Just because they don't sound explicitly racist doesn't mean they aren't. @@nybergsgarage Well, our media and history only wants to talk about those who "did it bad". It's what you want to remember about US history that makes it today. A lot of people can go on about how Europeans came over and stole land, owned slaves and segregate the races. But, a lot of them came to be in the abolitionist movements, fight on the Union side of the Civil war, fight to end wars against the natives and land seizers and took part in the Civil Rights movement. It's only what people want to hear and remember about a country to make it what it is today. Especially with the white half of the country.
Honestly, people tend to be friendly wherever you go if you're friendly first. Southern Whites in particular are crucified by Hollywood as the world's most horrible people, but the truth is that any given group of white American southerners is not unlike any other ethnic/national group of anyone else.
That's what ignorant means;;;

Instead, we were referred to as Orientals, a word I always disliked and a lot of the time, the focus was on our "oriental eyes".

Rick, I believe it is small efforts like yours, offered with kindness and humor, that have the best chance of curing the xenophobia (fear/hatred of foreigners, of the "others") that has caused most human wars, and is still much too prevalent in our world. Thank you.
That world will get destroyed one day if racism doesnt stop
@Ragnar Odinsson sorry for you
Actually, i believe that Zinc is actually the most racist town in America which resides a KKK group, they just do their parading in Harrison so their town stays clean in rep.

Xenophobia lol gotta shut cnn off and just go talk to people. This was allegedly the MOST RACIST town in America yet he was met with nothing but love and kindness. Maybe if he was in Chicago he would be treated worse but not in this backwoods "racist" town
@@allisonneal9060 ^^
@@tb8654 I don't disagree with you, but I would play devil's advocate: while I wholly agree that there are non-racist Amish communities, is it really fair to label one town as "the most racist town in America" when their education system has so clearly failed them? The Amish have an excellent education system for the most part, so while they're isolated, sure, but they're educated to be empathetic to the plights of others. Some people in rural middle America don't receive that same thoughtful education.

Great video! But I think a few questions about Chinese history and some questions about Asian geography would have been good. Even politics or economics. For example which is the capital of China? Who was the most important emperor? Which is the most important Chinese company? or Who are the Uyghurs? What does the Republic of Taiwan represent for China?

When he said "Asian Cultures" I was expecting him to ask questions about all of the diverse cultures of Asia from east Asia all the way to the middle east. But no, apparently east Asia is the only Asia
That would have been cool 😎
@@fiddlerwrik2771 it would be cool but unfair. Those questions are for folks who know nothing about Asia culture and win
Yeah, a little more variety would have been good, the questions were about chinese greeting, a chinese super hero, the chinese zodiac, korean pop groups, and a a taiwanese drink...
It´s like if someone said they were to ask questions about Europe, and then almost all the questions were to be about the UK or Germany...
If you say Asian in the UK, although we know China, Japan etc are in Asia, we actually mean Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi etc. In fact on our forms Chinese would not tick the Asian box, they have their own so its different in different places.

Asking someone about Asian culture is a bit unfair. As the yellow-shirted dude pointed out, depends on what Asian culture you refer to: Japanese, Indian, Iranian, Russian, etc, etc.....
Russia isn't an Asian country.
@@tonis204 It's transcontinental, part of it is is in Asia and part of it is in Europe. The dominant culture and ethnic group of Russia are the Slavic Russians who are culturally and ethnically European but there are large minority groups in Asian Russia (Siberia), who collectively form the majority in Siberia, who are ethnically related to Mongolians, Koreans and Central Asians and culturally related to Mongolians, Central Asians, Tibetans and other Vajrayana Buddhist populations in India, Bhutan and Nepal.
@@tonis204 majority of it is
@@tonis204 only an American would say that.
I think it’s a perfect (mis)leading question as it’s SO wildly broad that like your first response would be to question it. But also agree that it’s probably the one question that could lead to the most “racist” responses so people might just be like “I don’t know”
