@@angietoonz6605 you obviously have a very negative outlook on life. I’ve had older brash women talk to my group of friends and say shit like that, and we’re all white. As a Korean-American who grew up here in America my whole life, I have only experienced racism in California. In fact, I just got back from Jackson, Tennessee where it was like 99% Caucasians and I experienced 0% racism. Everyone I encountered was literally super nice and not weird or racist at all. Personally, I freaking love the South!
Grew up in south Texas and my highschool was only around 50% white. There was literally a little of everything. The only racism I saw was actually black people being racist towards Hispanic and vis versa
To be fair i dont think the elderly lady was trying to be racist or ethnically awkward she may of been raised by racists but chose different views but never knew the right approach not making excuses but its the most plausible reason i can think of
@@regimiro4888 It's not an excuse. It is however a reason. If you were raised in a family like that, you too would find it hard to break away from that. Passive racism is one of the hardest things in cultures to get rid of because people aren't sure what they did wrong; They just know what they were taught was socially acceptable. Therefore, if she was raised in an overtly racist family and culture, then that sort of passive racism would be hard to break. Kind of like how most boomers act like, "Oh, what's autism? You look away from people when they talk to you?" vs "OH- YOU'RE AUTISTIC! YOU DROOL ALL OVER THE PLACE AND SCREAM ALL THE TIME!" To her, it's not even racism. Just general ignorance. TL;DR: She's trying her best to change with times, but is having trouble straying away from cultural norms and family influences. Put that in your corn pipe and smoke it. This information was brought to you by an Centralistic Autistic Highschool Senior from Ohio. And Ohio is one of the most culturally diverse and racially integrated places in America I know.
that old lady was the perfect example of ignorance she was so sweet and genuinely wanted you to know she loved you, she just didnt have the right tools...
Not really. Just someone that seems secluded from the rest of the country. If she was racists, she wouldn't have acted so friendly. Some people are just too stupid to label everything racist.
Coming from China, most local chinese people, especially older ones would also stare at you like that if you look like an American or an European. They don't really have anything against you, it's just that they're not used to seeing someone who looks different. It's much rarer to see a white or black person in China than seeing a Chinese or black person in America
Can confirm, black man. Went to China. Had a lot of people stare and touch my skin as if seeing if it would rub off, and my hair didn't stop them from touching my face either. (I had pretty poor hair)
Same in my country. If you’re white or black and come here, people are gonna stare at you as we rarely see any non Japanese, but we’re all just curious and have no bad intentions lol. Most of us are friendly, as far as I know of!
You guys should go back with a hidden camera this time. There has been so many UA-camrs that went to this town for the same purpose and I feel that the locals are putting up good behaviour because they see them filming.
Good point. A single video by one group of people doesn't wash away the decades of extraordinary racism that's been coming out of Harrison and continues today, as was abundantly clear in the BLM video. A few good apples don't save the crop...
Great video! And in defense of the lady that called you "China Men", she may have been politically incorrect with that term and her excitement over seeing you may have made you feel uncomfortable, but she was very nice to you and she was genuinely affectionate. She didn't call you ugly names or treat you as less than her.
@@johndoe-ln4oiPeople always excuse white people for their ignorance despite the internet being so accessible just to make them not feel uncomfortable 😂 yall are unbelievable
I don't think the lady whose daughter loves Chinese men was insincere. She seems just a little misinformed, and considering who her neighbors are, I don't blame her. I bet she went home, Googled it or asked her granddaughter, and turned red. "Oh my Lord, they must think I'm so stupid now."
Could be Chinese men, Italian men, English men, French men. Too many of have been Brainwashed with official words. It's a test to see how easily you can be manipulated by the left. From controlling words to controlling you. Freedom means no one controls you and you are a free thinker.
I’m Asian…and I wasn’t offended by the lady in the chair at all. The lady in the chair didn’t seem to have any ill-will. She unfortunately just was never taught the best way to use the correct words and terminology with people of Asian descent/other ethnicities, or was never taught how to properly interact with people of other ethnicities in general. Her choice of words were really poor…but she had her heart in a good place and it definitely wasn’t “heckling”.
After all the fucked up past of america, there are still uneducated people like her and considering the comment section, she is not the only one. Some white people are comparing the term "Chinaman" with "Englishman" clearly didn't learn their history.

Just because you are nice, does not mean you can’t be racist. Just from the way she talks, she sounds very uneducated, and uneducated people tend to fall for conservative rhetoric a lot more easily. I know this because I was once an edgy high schooler who was uneducated and ignorant on a lot of issues. She may be nice, yes, but unfortunately she is most likely racist with a lot of pre-conceived notions and stereotypes. Her daughter most likely likes K-Pop or some Japanese cultural aspects. i mean it is a small town and that would be the FUNNIST thing ever on the same day AND they did get a picture with her and if he knew about the UA-cam channel idk coincident ????? _-_
I think the statement about the "old" generation is exactly right. Even in communities that have been traditionally racist, younger people see things differently and I believe they will be the ones to overcome hatred and fear.
the word "racism" does not exist. It's a fake made up word. People are tribal by nature. Its not "hatred" or "fear". they simply just want to be left alone and live with their own people (kinda like an Indian tribe) this is very natural and normal. They aren't out to hurt anyone. They just want to be left alone with their own people. People should respect their way of life instead of forcing multiculturalism on them when they don't want it. Their values should be respected even if others don't agree with it
The younger generation is usually more welcoming, but one thing to point out is that people behave differently to their true self when they know they’re being filmed
I mean yeah sure, but all the other stuff we know also came from filming too. And the reason they were there cuz they saw that video, which was also filmed (idk if it was secretly or smth I don't remember)..
I think I know what you meant to say in your comment, but it didn't come out correctly. Your comment states that people display their true selves when being filmed. If that's what you're saying, it's incorrect, because their true self is " HOW THEY ACT WHEN NOT BEING FILMED ". You see, people actually put on fronts/acts for the cameras so that they don't appear a certain way.
Yeahhh, but true racism is hard to hide. If someone is acting like “not a racist”, they don’t get friendly as much as they get patronizing. They bring up all the racist crap disguised as other things. (Hollywood, and slips from political people on all sides). Signs: bringing up stereotypes, over the top non-genuine sympathy, bringing up “friends and relatives” of the race at awkward times in the conversation.

She is racist because her grand daughter probably likes K-pop and she thinks every Asians are Chinese. She probably isn't ill-intended but there is a reason why the word "Chinaman" becomes racist, if people aren't educated on history then history have a tendency to repeat itself.
This was a cool video. I moved down to Houston, TX back in 1991 and heard so many stories on how they treat latinos. And I came in with a sort of chip on my shoulder thinking I'll pop the first person in the mouth if they say something racist towards me. It's 2023 and I'm still living in Texas and have no desire to leave as most people have been very respectful about others. But, sometimes it's best to check it out first before drawing a conclusion. I mean sure some really bad stuff has happened down here. But, over all it's been just fine for me and my family. Good job guys. BTW I'm learning Cantonese so I can communicate with my Daughter's mother in law who is from Hong Kong. It's a tough language to learn but I'm getting there.
As an Asian, I’m pretty sure the lady that said “China Men” meant good intention 😊 she was just trying to get you guys to know her daughter, but she didn’t know how to interpret it and her way of describing it makes it sound like she’s racist. But, ignorance and racism are two very different things. Even in Asia, when you see someone who’s non-Asian, the people tend to get curious and even in some cases, starts taking pictures with them, but they usually mean no harm, just trying to appreciate one’s unique existence.

As someone who’s lived most of their life in Harrison, I agree with what some of those in the video said. Harrison is actually pretty nice and has some amazing people. Unfortunately, since there are some people that aren’t kind towards other races, (they tend to be the older generation) and the fact that the KKK headquarters are close, Harrison gets a bad rep.
In cda Id if you go off quite a bit there are some aryan nations and some serious tension, but besides it’s filled with nice people everywhere lol. Cda has not as much as a bad rep anymore but before it was criticized heavily

The lady in the Walmart parking lot wasn't being racist to you, maybe a little ignorant but she didn't have a problem with you guys, I'd say she actually liked you guys. The term "Chinaman" is a really archaic term used to refer to Asian people in the US. @@cosmic_rain9417 she seemed to like him. But you wouldn't call a black man "Africa-Man" or an Asian man "China-man. She as her person was not racist, but calling someone "China man" is racist.
It's a hotbed for the KKK. Seriously though even in racism there are extremes and most people there are going to act like most everyone typically does but under that there are people who may be very hateful and some who just want to live in majority-white neighborhoods but I don't think that's all wrong. Most all of Asia can be very nationalistic especially the Japanese and you know what? It's also their right. In short just because someone is a nationalist doesn't mean they hate other races but perhaps they just prefer focusing on their language and culture. There are different levels of extreme, just like a nazi doesn't necessarily subscribe to a nationalist viewpoint but all nazis are national socialists.

@@DevSarman For ignorance, sure. For malevolence, not necessarily. It's actually quite common for uneducated people to make sweeping generalizations about other cultures and things they're not familiar with. That isn't racism or hate in and of itself. It's simply ignorance, which can be fixed with knowledge. Or sometimes it can be something of a colloquialism even if subtleties are understood. The Amish call non-Amish Americans, "The English" despite knowing better. It's just a short hand reference they use. In India, poor tribal people often refer to foreign things as "English", even if it's not technically English. It's just a shorthand they use to refer to non-local products or whatever. They don't really mean it to be derogatory, it's just an over-generalized descriptor. "China man" can easily fall into the same category, depending upon the context used. In the case of the elderly woman, it definitely seems to be a descriptor for her (even if over generalized) rather than a derogatory term.

@@regimiro4888 It's not an excuse. It is however a reason. If you were raised in a family like that, you too would find it hard to break away from that. Coming from China, most local chinese people, especially older ones would also stare at you like that if you look like an American or an European. Just because you are nice, does not mean you can’t be racist. Just from the way she talks, she sounds very uneducated, and uneducated people tend to fall for conservative rhetoric a lot more easily. I know this because I was once an edgy high schooler who was uneducated and ignorant on a lot of issues. the word "racism" does not exist. It's a fake made up word. People are tribal by nature. Its not "hatred" or "fear". they simply just want to be left alone and live with their own people (kinda like an Indian tribe) this is very natural and normal. They aren't out to hurt anyone. I think I know what you meant to say in your comment, but it didn't come out correctly. Your comment states that people display their true selves when being filmed. The lady in the Walmart parking lot wasn't being racist to you, maybe a little ignorant but she didn't have a problem with you guys, I'd say she actually liked you guys. The term "Chinaman" is a really archaic term used to refer to Asian people in the US. It's just about no longer in anyone's vernacular but there are elderly people who grew up hearing the term from adults.
As a Native American who has experienced racism, she wasn't discriminating against you. She was being friendly. She just was using improper terminology.

Social media is still media.
All this hate wave we're living through was fomented by social media and all traditional media is doing is to jump in to get a share of the pie cause $
It's because the media paints a bad picture for whites. Racism was not an issue until Barack Obama took office. I'm white and I deal with racist blacks on a daily basis. You cant label a city, "the most racist."
Every race is capable of being racist...not just white people. That's where people get everything mixed up.
good video. It's nice to know what the media is not reporting, but the reality of life for real people.
Just imagine if your town will be labelled as "The Most Racist Town". It's like both embarassing and funny at the same time. Glad that some people are stepping up to tell others that they aren't racist. Most old people can be (mostly) but some generations grow to be more open-minded.

Pretty sure some of the residents there are proud of that title. Quite sad.

@@DevSarman
For ignorance, sure.
It’s called fetishism and it’s another kind of racism
