    Love to see this, I have a dana 30 from a WJ with the cv style shafts on some 38s with a torsen limited slip carrier and 4.88 gears in my bronco 2 and I am excited to test it out once the trails open , up here in Wisconsin. Ive gotta say one thing i think will help the dana 30 live longer is going to be running as low of air pressure in your tires as you can, to reduce sharp torque loads back feeding into the rotating assembly. Also avoid axle hop when the tires start to break traction.

      Oh, for sure, we run 8 psi when off-roading and always try to avoid axle hoping.
      Sounds like you have yourself a pretty fun rig, and i bet you are itching to hit them trails!

      fyi; the JK dana30 is a little stronger than a WJ dana30

    So I have an 11 JKU Sport with a 6in lift on 37s, I just got back from a week trip at rock springs. I drove it from Louisiana to Arkansas. than took it though all 3 Badge of honor trails On top of "The Gulch" and Pacos Tacos, I even took to the other side of the park across the street. and ran Level 4 trails all week which should be between a 6-8 in normal scale. all I had to do was disconnect my front sway bar, I than drove it back home for a total of a 12hr round trip. My Dana 30 is BONE STOCK, to the point I'm still running 3.73 gears front and rear. I didn't have a single problem and to be honest I'm going to rock it as is until it goes.
    I think the 30 is FARR stronger than we are "told" I went with my mom, who has a 23 JLU Rubicon with a 3in lift on 37s. and I thought I would leave wanting to sell mine for a Rubi. In reality I ended up leaving with the mind set of I don't need a Rubi or a D44 front end. that just being smart and picking the right line is all I need to do.

      That is awesome. It sounds like you have the same mindset as us. I believe a lot of it is "look what i bought," and the ones you hear about braking are probably people bounceing the front end and hopping and throttling out like crazy.
      The dana 30 is a tough little axle, and it gives way better ground clearance than the 44 and especially the dana 60. But most people never even try to wheel them in fear of what they heard from some guy who once new a guy that read on a form somewhere that it cant handle it 🤣🤣

      @@JeepTrailsandBarbells yea, I definitely have the same mindset! I'm planning a trip to MOAB before the end of the year, and I'm sure as shit driving it to Utah and back, I thought I saw a Rubicon Ridge, and fun run badge on the jeep so, so you know hot springs isn't a walk in the park.
      and I was very much going there expecting to have to trailer it back because I snapped a shaft, but it never happened. And lets be honest I very much enjoy listening to people say oh you don't have lockers? wait you have a D30 in the front? enjoy breaking, only to follow them up the mountain lol. I'm very much a do more with less type of guy.
      The last trail I did before we left was Gorge not the Gulch. and I went up it solo with me and my brother-in-law (actually got it on video) and when I got to the top it was than that I realized there isn't a single thing wrong with the D30. no mind you I'm still running 3.73 gears on 37s

      @Jacks_Disciple Yeah, i know hot springs. They are actually talking about putting another badge there along with Missouri, and we just went to Missouri in May 🤣🤣🤦‍♂️.
      We daily drive ours, and we dont trailer them either. We trailed my TJ to Missouri only because my wife didn't feel like driving 13 hours by herself, lol.
      And yeah, they can take a beating, i dont know if you have watched any of my other videos, but we got some good footage of the dana 30 doing some crazy stuff without braking. And we have more we will be putting out.
      Im 100% with you, i love it when people give you that crazy look when they hear you have a 30, and its open 🤣🤣.
      Had one guy tell me "i used a dana 30 but just kept snapped shafts" so i told him "well i guess you dont know how to pick your line, that or you just go for shock value and gun ho it like a mad man"

      @@JeepTrailsandBarbells well my vote would be for Paco's tacos! Cuz that trail is sketchy on the best of days lol. And I was actually watching your other vids off and on throughout the night, shoot! Depending on how far from south Louisiana you are (Lafayette area) should go hit hot springs, or some of the OHV parks Texas! I know there are a few badges in Texas I need.

      @@Jacks_Disciple 225 miles, so 3 1/2 hour from my area. And we are planning 2 trips next year 1 is to hot springs, another to Alabama. I would love to meet up and do some trails together.

    The 4.88 gears should have been the sweet spot for the on and off road.

    • @JeepTrailsandBarbells
      @JeepTrailsandBarbells  12 днів тому +1

      You are correct, but the better deal was on the 5.13s. The 488s would have cost me about 600 more at the time. Plus when it comes to really steep rock faces the 5.13s are amazing. But like you said the sweet spot for on and off road would be 4.88s

      Yeah, that 4 to 1 transfer case would be really nice. The trim that comes with them is nice. What i really like about the new Rubicons is that they come with a 32 spline axle instead of a 30 spline

    Appreciate the info! I've got a D30 in my '09 JK that I'm considering upgrading from 35's to 37's. Also, what rock sliders are you running? I like the built in steps on them. Thx.

    • @JeepTrailsandBarbells
      @JeepTrailsandBarbells  Рік тому +1

      You are welcome. I'm glad you found this info helpful. Pur dana 30 has been handling 37s and 38s no issues, so you should be fine as long as your not dogging it to hard. And the rock sliders are EAG we got them off of ebay i believe. Might have been Amazon.

    If someone could test the durability of a D30… it appears to be you! There’s some really impressive shots of the abuse in this video, even if it were a stock D44

      Yeah, we beat on it pretty well, lol. We put it through the ringger when we can. But one day we are going to swap to 1 tons and do a 5" long arm and run 42s. But first we got to see what the 30 can do lol

    Im in Houston as well. I have a 15 jk sport and wanting to go 38s or 40s with a regear of course. Do you think its possible since i have an automatic and not a manual ?

    • @JeepTrailsandBarbells
      @JeepTrailsandBarbells  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, you shouldn't have a issue, re gearing will take the load off the transmission.

    • @JeepTrailsandBarbells
      @JeepTrailsandBarbells  3 місяці тому

      The front dana 30, no, it does not it's open. The rear dana 44 has a yukon mechanical locker. it's a grizzly model. My TJ has a spartan auto locker in it, and i run 36s on that just fine.

      No, it's the original brakes, and we have never had an issue with stopping. I dont think the bbk is a bad investment, but it's not one we have needed to make.

      Get drilled & slotted rotors all the way around & then "Beefed up brakes" they are really good pads . That's what I do & the difference I'd night & day ,I got all 4 drilled & slotted rotors for like $320 & the Beefed up brakes were $120 all the way around
