- TUTORIAL- how to transfer photos/videos from iPhone to a usb flash drive/stick, save or backup iPhone videos/photos to a usb flash drive.
BELOW I provided links to get the HEVC & HEIF codecs from Microsoft's Official website. Download them if you don't have them installed already on your Windows 10 computer/laptop and if your trying to play back videos & photos on your computer that you recorded in the High Efficiency (HEIF/HEVC) format.

This video was really helpful, thank you! I do have a question - maybe you answered it in another video, I’m not sure. I noticed that after I paste the photos on to my flash drive, the photos go back to the original way. By original way I mean like the filters I used on my iPhone & if I cropped the photo don’t save on there? Is there a way to keep edits I made using my iPhone on to the flash drive ?
That’s a great question I did not realize it was doing that well I’ve never heard of it doing that but it sounds like something that it’s probably doing I didn’t know about if I figure it out I will do a video on it but as of now I’m not sure

Watch the entire video to the end, I had that happen also before and mine was because of the format I was using in the iPhone. You can record and take videos with two choices. 1 is the high efficiency and the other is most compatible, Sometimes depending on which one you have chose to record with could potentially cause that issue. Actually I think it was the most compatible mode that was causing mine to Just sit there and not copy over it was really weird

So for the camera formats, in general, if one would use Most Compatible it would store it as a larger file and if using High Efficiency the files will be smaller?

"I am having the issue you mentioned where I can not see the DCIM file" it was there, but 2 minutes into the download Windows told me that it failed.
Now I am unable to see the DCIM this time around.
Any ideas?
Try another usb lighting cable and another port on the computer. Also reboot your phone and reset the privacy settings on your phone so it asks you again to trust the computer see if that helps

Ok I got you on everything but two things
1 I went into the DCIM file and have like 7 different folders and all of my videos and pictures are mixed up. Are they organized in any specific order or do you have to go through every single folder to find what your looking for.
2. Is there a way to create folder on your phone and it show up on that screen because it is easier to sort photos on the phone than in that tiny menu.
sometimes for differnet reasons those folders get created, so you might have to go through them to get all your stuff out and then I would recommend a factory reset on your phone that will get it back to normal and one folder so it's less confusing

Great video. Extremely easy to follow. Where can we find the link for instructions if some of the videos and photos don’t show in the DCIM folder?
I do have some videos on that but that's probably because you use icloud photos and in order for all your photos and videos to show in the DCIM folder you would need to download them all to your iphone, so some have had luck just turning off icloud photos because I think it gives you the option of downloading them to your iphone directly first. It's been a while since I have messed with that, but I'm gonna do an up to date video soon on this issue again with the DCIM folder.

most of them should work fine but I have always used SanDisk flash drives and they have always worked well for me for years they are very reliable. But of course there are other brands that are very good as well and Samsung is very good also. Oh yeah you can always get like at least 256gb one to start so then you can store a ton of photos for like ever on it or larger the larger one you get the more they cost but at least you can save photos for like ever

Previously when Ihave taken videos I have to return home to transfer the files to the computer, so i can deklete them from the phone to free up more space. Now i can simply take a USB stick and transsfer the files while out and about.
I assume it's the same process to transfer from the phones memory card to the USB stick.

make sure you log out of icloud first on your old phone before you delete anything from it, then it should be fine to delete stuff off of it.

Great video! One question. I only want to save videos to a flash drive; no photos. Also, my videos are in Google Photos. What would I need to do differently to get those videos saved to a flash drive?
you would have to download those to your computer first from the google photos, you can do it one by one or if you have a lot you might need to download in bulk, you have options to download everything at once from with in your google account because I have to do it when I switched from google photos over to iCloud

You can't really remove the DCIM and I would try and use iCloud to move stuff over, you can upload those to iCloud and then they will sync across your devices

I was able to move some of the files that were on my iPhone ( outside of the DCIM ) , I moved them to my windows laptop, but they won’t open without an apple application, apparently 😔. But the other files I was able to move as your instructions 👍🏽 THANK YOU ! You have a gift to teach young man 😁

HI the when I go to use the Microsoft link for HEVC (videos) it says: HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer is currently not available. is there another place to get the extensions?
yes sorry they updated it, you can get it from the the microsoft store and it cost .99cents, I just had to buy it recently as well, it's not free anymore

Could be few different issues, try first restart your computer, also try another USB port, see if that makes a difference

I just watched this video and ran into the exact problem you mentioned at the 1:53 mark of your video.
I first double-clicked on “Apple iPhone” then clicked on INTERNAL STORAGE. It shows that my iPhone 12 account is empty, with no data/ photos/ movies on it, which of course is not correct. You mentioned that you would have another link, to another one of your tutorials where I could find the answer to this problem. Unfortunately, I do not see that link below. Can you supply me with the link, or what the answer to my question would be? What is the work around for when INTERNAL STORAGE indicated that there is no data on my iPhone? Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for the video but I have a problem. When I go and where I am supposed to see 100 Apple I am seeing something different. Yes, I am seeing 100Apple it does not have nearly all of my photos. It also shows Apple101, 102, 103, and so on. Those are all empty. Please help me.
It could be because of so many pictures and the directory DCIM may just create a new folder or it could be due to updates with iOS and the camera roll, I'm gonna look more into it to find out exactly later, but it don't hurt anything, you can get rid of them but just deleting them might cause some issues if you were to try and delete the folders right from the DCIM directory, the best way to clean it up is to factory reset your phone, but first of course always backup your pictures and stuff to icloud or where ever you back up to.

that's actually a really great question! I don't actually think you can because it saves right to the camera roll right away, and you know I think they should give us the option to save where we want to as soon as we stop the recording. I totally get what your saying
