Oblivion was my first TES game too, game scaling is atrocious, the faces are straight up from nightmares, but the quests, the charm, the somewhat dark undertones, the shivering islands, the dark brotherhood...
The overall scale of the game blew me away at the time. Just so much to do, and explore. I've put an embarrassing amount of time into this game, but I don't think I have any regrets?
I actually found one of the more memorable moments in Oblivion to BE in the fighters guild questline. You basically hallucinate you're fighting goblins and end up helping murder an entire town. That was pretty guilt inducing.
Stealth archer is the most viable in oblivion too, If only time based parry and time based sword strike was a thing, Transforming combat into a skill based system and can be made more forgiving as you level your skills up so casual players can play with stress too instead of the spam attack stuff we got since forever!
Morrowind is my all time favourite open world RPG, but then I'm an old school PC nerd. For folk like my younger brother Oblivion was their very first opportunity to experience a game of that sort, and despite being almost exclusively into console shooters I know he considers it a gaming high point.
My husband is a TES purist, he thought Morrowind was too linear. Lol He still plays Daggerfall. I keep telling him to play Morrowind because it's glorious but he's too invested in EVE Online now.

First elder scrolls game as well but I was like 8😂It blew my freaking mind when I went to my friends house and saw it for the very first time!! The loading screens were like history book pages from school and the fact that you could take all the npc’s stuff when you killed them, especially their clothes we had a great laugh with that😂😂that night I went home and begged my mom for it and played it for so so many hours over the years until I got the game informer magazine about Skyrim one day several years later and actually screamed out loud🤯😂what a time to be alive when Skyrim came out I was 12 and I still have this love of the games but as well as all the nostalgia I can’t hide the fact that these games bring my childhood back to life. Now im 25 and just put morrowind openmw on my steam deck time to try out one more elder scrolls for the books, thank you for this beauty of a video and and reminding me of my love of my childhood with this game the pinnacle of my fantasy game love🙏🏼❤️
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I also spent a lot of time just messing around in the game and being in awe of how much the game let you mess with the world when I was younger. Many hours spent of just paralyzing wild life and pushing them down hills. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I’ve only played through Oblivion once and I really only focused on the main quest. It was pretty fun and coming from a Skyrim player it was a great change. Hopefully I’ll sit down someday and replay Oblivion.
Great video! Oblivion is my favorite elder scrolls game as well. My favorite quest line is the dark brotherhood, although I don’t enjoy the purification.
Oblivion is the first time I ever remember feeling truly free in a video game. The first time I ever remember feeling like I was in an actual, living world. It was a sandbox experience unlike anything else I had ever experienced, and I think - to this day - it still excels in most of the ways that Skyrim and Fallout fail.
Daggerfall was my first, but this one is my Favorite. Except for Gate to Sovngarde that I am playing now. The Rain of Fire spell tips the scales for me.
GTS isnt locked to 60fps either. I get a steady 116 fps. At 4K. You just need the power. I have my fps capped to 116 so it might hit over 144 or more at 1440p.
Played them all. Started way back with Morrowind, that one still has a special spot in my heart. Oblivion is dope but in a different way. For me, the world was less interesting but the engine was just so cool at launch. I even got the special edition with the septim and map.
Morrowind is still my favourite, but Oblivion has a special place in my heart because I was playing this on a laptop not built to handle it. I spent a bunch of nights in a hot room with a laptop on the edge of overheating, propped up on old books with a cheap laptop cooler. I had it on all low settings with low end mods and still was only getting 18-25FPS, but I still had a ton of fun. This video is great, you deserve much more views and subscribers.
Thanks my man. I appreciate you setting the scene for your Oblivion experience. Love hearing about how people experienced the game. Mine was an old HP computer that I tried cramming a Geforce 7800 into and that thing was definitely being bottlenecked by all the old hardware in that machine. It didn't run great, but I kept assuring myself I was getting a better experience than those console people.
I finished the mainquest to morrowind, oblivion, amd skyrim this year and without a doubt oblivion is the best it might be because it was my first ever rpg as a child but also because i love the art style, vibe, leveling system, acrobatics doing flips, and blasting spells while also holding a shield and sword
I remember playing TES on the Xbox 360 as an early teenager and my God there was absolutely NOTHING that compared to it. It was simply in a league of it's own and SO ahead of its time.
Nice vid. First time watching you, caught my eye because I am currently playing Oblivion yet again... Agree with your comments on the Fighters guild. Although... It is always the first guild I join. Why? A short trip to Cheydenhal gets me a quest where I am handed 3 zero weight weapons. Which I proceed to utilize until they lose their usefulness. It is an awesome game. Currently, I have 178 active mods (wabbajack Heartland setup). Great fun. Take care.
Thanks so much for watching! Still brings me a little feeling of that magic I felt back when I first played each time I boot it up. Definitely a comfort game for me.
Fully agreed the guild quest all were so good really felt like you were accomplishing something the only bad bit was doing the 10 towers back to back it was so repetitive but other than that definitely the best one in the series I have played
Love oblivion, stuck with me through all my life so far. Although i do only re run it with some mods that fix the scaling allowing me to play at a harder difficulty to create more interesting gameplay instead of slogging to kill minotaurs in caves.
Saw an Oblivion screenshot before the game came out in the preview section of a magazine. The screenshot was showing the woods and a deer. I was so impressed that when the game came out I went out and bought it!!! My GTX6600LE with 256MB struggled really hard to play it, so I saved some money to buy an 8800GTX 768MB graphics card, just to be able to play it in 1280x1024 on a 4:3 monitor. I was playing it for hundreds of hours, modding it, playing it with many different characters multiple times. I played it so much that even the DVD disc broke eventually!!! =( yeah back then the game needed the disc to play on pc. Oblivion was the first TES game I played that brought me back to gaming after a long break!!!
It's crazy to think about how different things were back then with buying GPUs. These days buying a top of the line graphics card is almost like buying a new car. Thanks for sharing your experience with it. I wish I still had my original PC copy of the game. Probably trapped in some disc drive somewhere.
I agree, it's my favorite TES title as well. Love it so much I am creating Fallout 76 CAMPs that are representative of the different locations in the game. It is magnificent and everyone needs to play it. I always have an Oblivion game going. I always go back. Always.
Would a big if you didn't have to repair everything pretty much after every fight If they didn't have that paper style If you could actually read the quest page. The contrast between the paper style and the ink font style makes it very difficult to read. Being very thin, Old English like which is pretty cool. But hard for those who have vision problems.
Morrowind and oblivion are both great. Morrowind was more polished (i played it in 2018) but oblivion has a quality that it feels "alive". And beside was just plain beautiful. Beautiful game.
That "Oblivion rizz" is so real. Oblivion feels so much more grounded and believable, and much more immersive, in comparison to the rest of the series. I can never put my finger on it, but i can just hang out in Onlivion and watch stuff happen and allow myself really feel like I'm in the world. I guess it's kinda like how older horror games are scarier because your mind fills in the gaps and personalizes it. Great video. Keep it up.
I think that comparison to how older horror games had a certain feel is definitely on point. You do have to use your imagination a bit and the world building of Oblivion always made me think a lot about the world I was in. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Oblivion has a lot of charm mainly because of funny out of place dialogue. I like the idea of the Hero becoming Sheogorath. A lot of the quests are also just a lot of fun too. Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild was peak. I wish Skyrim would’ve had an Arena.
Not just my favorite TES game but my absolute favorite game ever. Waking-up early to go to school? No way, the Dark Brotherhood needs me to kill people!
If morrowind was updated to be a more.modern game like oblivion I dont think there would be any doubt it was the best elder scrolls game.. Oblivion much better than skyrim though
Oblivion was my first Bethesda game too, inspired me to finally play RPG games. The rest is history. Ended up buying Skyrim at launch because of the influence that this game had on me.
Oblivion was my first TES and also really the first game that I was blown away by. It was my favourite game as a kid and I still love it, warts and all. But it's the third best TES. It's the awkward middle child between the more RPG focused Morrowind and the superior gameplay of Skyrim. Skyrim and Morrowind have far better art direction, game worlds, and atmospheres, and I'm all about immersion.
I agree that you can totally argue how Morrowind and Skyrim are technically better made games, but I think there's a lot of magic in Oblivion that just isn't captured in the same way with Skyrim. I've been playing a lot more Morrowind recently so I hope to make a video on that in the future!
@@EatSplode I must admit that I commented that in a rush before leaving the house and hadn't even watched your video. I was basically reacting to the title. Terrible etiquette, I know! Having watched it now - firstly, you made me laugh and I enjoyed the nostalgia trip, so thank you, and secondly, you do make a good argument about the weird charm Oblivion has. Your comment about all the NPCs seemingly being on the spectrum was great. It does have an intangible and indescribable charm like no game I've ever played. It's unintentionally hilarious but simultaneously a genuinely great game, somehow. Definitely one of the most memorable games of all time. But I found on my most recent playthrough that I struggle to take the game seriously, and actively look for jank to amuse me. Constantly jumping around and instigating dialogue while mid-air over an NPC's head. Making guards chase me across Cyrodiil twice over for stealing a spoon. Executing the Adoring Fan. Whereas when I play Morrowind or Skyrim I get into a more serious roleplaying mood. Either way, 3 sublime games.
I love Oblivion sooooo much! It was my introduction to the Elder Scrolls. I seriously give it a 10 out of 10! Because I've never had more fun playing a video game. For me personally, I really do like Oblivion more than Skyrim. However, I just started Morrowind for the first time, and I'm really digging it.
Yep, I'm currently replaying it on Series X, 60fps, crisper textures and 1 second load times. Morrowind I don't think aged well and Skyrim is just an experimental mod simulator, extremely boring and streamlined. Sure Oblivion it's perfect and the leveling system could be better, but the game has far more strengths than weaknesses. The dungeons actually feel like dungeons, the architecture of the towns is amazing and each one feels different, weapon and spell hotkeys, custom magic, epic soundtrack, great quests and guilds, the list goes on. Also it has the greatest DLC ever, Shivering Isles!
I'm super happy with how the game looks on the Series X and yeah Shivering Isles is a really good time. Fast load times are something I hadn't even considered, but they are totally there. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been playing again on Series S too! Even just getting a couple of mods running (not even crazy mods) I find a pain to get it running on PC without it randomly crashing.
Oblivion was my first and favourite. I was in middle school, scrubbed pots in an Indian restaurant every night to get a 360 and Oblivion only to get the red ring. Regardless I got a good six years out of it. Also got a lot of shit for preferring it to most JRPGs or FPS. Copped a lot of flack for it. I got a Daedric “O” as my first tattoo as a home job when I was 17; Ended up getting it covered because it felt like nobody even cared or knew what Oblivion was and kept saying “cool Skyrim tattoo” Sad in hindsight writing this that I felt so jaded about it.
On my gf’s account, but I adore oblivion to pieces. Even my brother whom I am at odds with could agree with me this is our favorite elder scrolls game of all time. No other game have I came back to mod as much as this game, except maybe new Vegas. I dont like Todd’s direction he’s went in in the gaming industry, but boy did he leave a gem with this one. Skyrim is fun but oblivion has me enamored.
Morrowind got me through my divorce back in 2006 lol Just played it for like 10 hours a day. But Oblivion I played around 2 thousand hour in I'm sure of it.
0:17 "It is a bit of a hot take", aaaand at 9:23 is where you shot yourself in the foot. I liked playing Oblivion years ago but couldn't replay it today, at least without modding it which I find a nuisance itself. Those gates and some of the level scaling got a bit ridiculous. Skyrim is better in my opinion but has issues too though. Oh those he Dwemmer areas. Btw, enjoyed the video.
Haha, yeah I totally get that not everyone is going to be as forgiving as I was to areas like that. I think due to nostalgia I'm willing to be more patient with those repetitive areas. Thanks a lot for watching!
I played this game when I was in Uni best game I ever played , digital crack is the person word. When I was having classes I was dreaming of what the next quest will make me do . So fun. Never got the same line for Skyrim though found it rather bland.
No shame in picking your favorite. Even fossils like myself who rave about Daggerfall are more than aware of its shortcomings. We get to wave away a lot of criticism by saying, "Hey, it was 1996." Congrats to Oblivion for coming of age. Now we can say, "Hey, it was 2006." I've replayed each TES title (excluding Arena) more than its successor. Some of the issues seem baked into the crust of nearly every entry. The one complaint I always apply is the lack of dialog options and branching paths. Wouldn't it be fun to join Mannimarco or the Blackwood Company? Or maybe you turn the Elder Scroll over to Chancellor Ocato in exchange for a pardon and betray the Gray Fox, leading Hieronymous Lex to your next meeting with the guildmaster. Capital!
Feel the same. It's not a hot take the others are just plebs who can't remember their skill ups and slow down to use only the skills that will be valuable short run and long run. Tik tok brains can't slow down to think hey I can use a horse to save on athletics. Hey I can wear no armor to not level heavy or light for the end of this current lvl. Hey I can only use a blade and the highest damage I can get with no foot steps wasted and move towards those per lvl upgrades sensibly depending on what is most reasonable given where I am what quests I have which one should I burn which ones should I hold off. Oblivion would be nice if it had it's charm but an unofficial revision same graphics just a smoother engine with less jank and less pointless stuff more compartmentalized loot drops, maybe more like diablo 2 just toned down. Like one modder who has a simple clear idea to polish the game in the spirit that is clearly here and waiting to be elevated into something that would take all those charming vibes without ruining something that would shift it away from its soul. I know of the skyrim engine one they are doing but Skyrim engine is clunky too. It doesn't make me feel like the action rpg combat implemention of Morrowind leveling I am seeing here in Oblivion, do you not? Too much Skyrim 200ms jank forced input lag in the newer engine no skill flat boring. Oblivion feels faster but looks sharp but robotic animations wise. How about being able to have nice input, nice movement around enemies or like enemy morale in the form of numerical superiority or like the mentality of fighting in positioning and a nice UI with slot items and greater value of things in the world relating to their acquirement of trophees and how they are used to progress or make you powerful but earning it in careful considered threshholds. Add an option end of the world timer. Just so much potential in it and instead I have to listen to boring Skyrim npc drone on their super safe non spicy dialogues. Ehh. I should just move on or do it myself.....
Haha, I appreciate the thought out response. Mods definitely can make the game into something that feels different but the engine still reminds you that you're playing Oblivion. There's something about games made in the Creation engine that feel janky for sure, but I think because of how forgiving many of us have been with these games due to their grand scale, it's become something many of us just view as charming. I still think Skyrim is a great game, but it just doesn't hit the same way for me personally.
I love Oblivion! I fractionally prefer Skyrim, but that was my first game 😅I was super late to gaming lol. Oblivion is great with a few quality of life and graphics mods on PC, including levelling correction mods. Just wish the NPC voice acting was as good as Skyrim. I feel that lets it down, particularly the shop owners. The story telling is better than Skyrim. Hope TES 6 brings the best bits of Oblivion and Skyrim and updates it.
There are definitely a lot of arguments to be had on Skyrim being the better game. Something about the weird voice acting in Oblivion works for me. Reminds me of the bad voice acting in older Resident Evil games. Just gives it a level of weird charm. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I feel like any Skyrim fans should definitely pick up Oblivion, even if it is just to acknowledge that Skyrim wouldn't have even happened had it not been for Morrowind and Oblivion. Like giving an older album a go from a current popular artist out of appreciation.
The recipe for the perfect ES6 1. Take Morrowinds abundance of skills/specialization 2. Take oblivion/skyyrim contact combat. 3. Take oblivions world feel how each area/town has its own personality 4. Get rid of Skyrims lamebrane leveling system. It doesnt make the game more approachable as they suggest. 5. Add Geomod to the enviroment 6. Take Fallouts level up system Jfc id fuck that game.
I wouldn't call it a hot take I would call it the best take as Oblivion is by far the most I have played out of any Elder Scrolls game probably as it was my 1st one I played in the series and feel like skyrim didnt have the same heart
Oblivion is my favorite game of all time! I just love its flaws, i dont play it all the time anymore cause these games are kinda finite for me, tho im doing a playthru now lol.
Oblivion IS the best Elder Scrolls game in many, MANY ways. Skyrim was a MASSIVE Step back. In order to appeal to more mainstream audiences, it lost much of its "soul".
I think that's one of the reasons Starfield still hasn't fully clicked with me. Definitely feels "soulless" in many ways, but due to my nostalgia and love for the older games, I want to like it. There's a lot in the game I think is great, but a lot else just feels like it's trying to appeal to the masses and loses a lot of what made previous games so deep in the process.
@@EatSplode the biggest issue Starfield has, in my opinion, is a lack of depth. There's nothing to hook you, nothing Unique that sets it apart from other Space games. The story is fine, the characters are fine, and the Procedurally generated Planets is just dull... but those would be minor issues if it had that hook. People kept saying it would be like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls in space, but it's missing what made those games great. With Fallout, It gets you in the opening, with that one catchy line: War. War never changes. With the Elder Scrolls(ESPECIALLY Oblivion) it gets you with the opening moments, whether that be some gruff Dunmer on a boat, A racist viking in a wagon, or Sir Patrick Stewart's Narration... then you get that pan-shot, the Wow moment... Starfield lacks this, and then just gets Tedious. Honestly? It needed more work, a d they knew it needed more work, but like Fallout 76, they released it anyway.(I mean, they'd already delayed it twice...) who knows, maybe they'll fix its problems eventually. I just hope The Elder Scrolls 6 dosent suck.
Eh, that is a bold statement. The game was great back in the day and I am nostalgic about it but it’s aged SO poorly. A game like half life 2 aged beautifully. Honestly oblivion always looked a bit rank even for 06.
HL2 has had a lot of updates over time that keep it looking kinda nice. Yeah, the source engine has definitely aged better, but it's not really capable of the weird open world stuff that Bethesda was going for at the time.
nah man, Oblivion is OP, fav game for me as well, i-m 32. was my starting point as well. i did play Morrowind a bit after, was nice, but ...Oblivion is OP
Are you Boris Johnson's brother?
This comment made me exhale heavily through my nose. Well done, sir.
i was thinking lewis capaldi

A fine review. Looking forward to Skyblivion? Hope it is going to be even more dope than Oblivion is!
Very slickly produced and fun video for such a small channel. Kudos!
Thank you!
There are a lot of us waiting for Skywind and Skyblivion. They will happen eventually...
Oblivion was my first Bethesda game too, inspired me to finally play RPG games. The rest is history. Ended up buying Skyrim at launch because of the influence that this game had on me.
I've attempted it so many times, but I wish I could enjoy it like I did when I was 16-18
Oblivion was my first TES and also really the first game that I was blown away by.
Oblivion is my favorit game of all time and everytime i play it i like to go for strolls and listen to the music cuz the soundtracks is so good👌👌
I love Oblivion sooooo much! It was my introduction to the Elder Scrolls. I seriously give it a 10 out of 10! Because I've never had more fun playing a video game. For me personally, I really do like Oblivion more than Skyrim.
However, I just started Morrowind for the first time, and I'm really digging it.
Oblivion is my favorite too, but Morrowind is a close second. Hope you have an awesome time playing Morrowind and thanks for watching my video!
Agreed , but I dont like how bandits get glass armor at higher levels.
Skyrim had better combat.
I'm sold. I'm gonna get it when I'm done with a full Skyrim and Morrowind playthrough.
I hope you have a great time with it!
Love hearing others experience with the game, so thanks for sharing that. Oblivion is a special game from a unique time for sure.
Favorite is Oblivion and I doubt ES6 will change that to be honest
Are you Joris Bohnson?
On my gf’s account, but I adore oblivion to pieces. Even my brother whom I am at odds with could agree with me this is our favorite elder scrolls game of all time. No other game have I came back to mod as much as this game, except maybe new Vegas. I dont like Todd’s direction he’s went in in the gaming industry, but boy did he leave a gem with this one. Skyrim is fun but oblivion has me enamored.
Totally agree. New Vegas is another game I always come back to. It's a shame Bethesda never let Obsidian try their hand at an Elder Scrolls entry.
Fuck me, when the character creator moved to the side view I nearly died of laughter.
This channel deserves more love
Thanks my man!
Skyrim actually has a moment in the game exactly like the 2nd clip you showed. Happens in a tiny cave in the rift.
My 1st was morrowind on the original Xbox, and it was something
Good point, subbed
Excited for skyblivion
I agree. That is all.
oblivion is the best game of all time. It changed gaming when it came out
Morrowind got me through my divorce back in 2006 lol
Just played it for like 10 hours a day.
Bro same. My first and still all time fav
Oblivion with Skyrim's leveling system would be nice.
Now we can say, "Hey, it was 2006."
I've replayed each TES title (excluding Arena) more than its successor. Capital!
Algorithm brought me here fantastic video mate!
Fantastic video! Subbed like an adoring fan
Thanks so much!
Ohh Yeah Oblivion my first TES Game i have it installed and moded the shit out off it i love it!
Your delivery on Oblivion being crack made me laugh so hard.
Hey oblivion was my introduction to the series as well.
I feel like any Skyrim fans should definitely pick up Oblivion, even if it is just to acknowledge that Skyrim wouldn't have even happened had it not been for Morrowind and Oblivion. Like giving an older album a go from a current popular artist out of appreciation.
The recipe for the perfect ES6
1. Take Morrowinds abundance of skills/specialization
2. Take oblivion/skyyrim contact combat.
3. Take oblivions world feel how each area/town has its own personality
4. Get rid of Skyrims lamebrane leveling system. It doesnt make the game more approachable as they suggest.
5. Add Geomod to the enviroment
6. Take Fallouts level up system
Jfc id fuck that game.
I hope they don’t ever bring back oblivion and Skyrim combat. Maybe a better version of dark messiah combat would be better
This guys cadence is hilarious 😂, and I agree completely.
Hey, thanks!
Very nice video, subscribed!
Thank you for watching!
Oblivion was my first Bethesda game too. It's the best fucking thing ever
Skyrim is great but Oblivion is the GOAT, first elderscrolls game I played.
I just hope The Elder Scrolls 6 dosent suck.
oblivion is legendary. morrowind was good. but just having full voice acting alone makes oblivion the better. its DLC. its quirkiness. the guilds!
Very nice video mate
Tied between Oblivion and Daggerfall, for me.
hell yeah
nah man, Oblivion is OP, fav game for me as well, i-m 32. was my starting point as well. i did play Morrowind a bit after, was nice, but ...Oblivion is OP
Dream of a Game ❤
