- Prepare to embark on a nostalgic journey as we revisit a classic episode from Season 2, of Legendary Motorcar TV Show - "A Rare Desert Find". For more Ford GT40 videos check out our gold GT40: • The Legendary 1966 GT4...
In this segment from Season 2, Episode 7, Peter Klutt and his son, Gary, venture to Arizona in search of classic cars. They strike gold when they find out that Harley Cluxton III is selling a very rare, completely original GT40 street car.
The two discuss the distinctions between the race-ready version and the streetcar and then decide to take a quick test drive to feel the car's character on the road. Upon returning, Peter and Harley examine the original documents and paperwork before delving into negotiations on the price.
This particular example was a Carmen Red, GT40 Streetcar. Built for the road, the streetcar is the same as its Le Mans winning counterpart other than some minor interior changes (addition of a cigarette lighter, ashtray, carpeting, etc.) and engine tune.

Do you need a car like this? Nobody needs a car like this. Do you want a car like this? Absolutely!
Needs are irrelevant.
How people spend their own money, is no one else's business.
Worry about your own money
@@drsrsv8884 I believe that was a quote Gary made about a Countach in another episode.
@@drsrsv8884 Why are you so angry, try to calm down mate, sheesh !!
I recognize that line from Sports Car Revolution.
Peter has the best job EVER! Miss the TV show though...
This is the content we want to see! I believe a modern day version of this show would be wildly successful. This side of the hobby is top rarely shared and it's the best part!
Peter, I've said this before, you and your family are the class act of the auto industry/hobby. Thank you for including us in this awesome purchase... God bless, Mr. Klutt 😊
Congrats on the purchase, a truly historic race car for the road.
I seen this about ten yrs ago on tv. It was probably in about 2012 or so,I imagine he still has it.
I’m glad that your success has enabled you to keep cars like this going .
GT 40 and the entirety of the history and all those involved is remarkable
Love the TV show they used to have long ago. Really cool insight on restoration.
Wow, Thanks for sharing that experience with everyone….and actually “test”driving it! That sound 🔥
The Borrani's never need to come off again. What a stunner!
Personally I like the bronze wheels
Peter love your podcasts on all your cars, especially with your son, father and son with the same love and interest in cars, this GT 40 and the 62 to 66 Ferrari GTOs are some of my favourite cars of my teen years, thanks for your shows and be safe.😎🇨🇦
I believe they were right hand drive because the 40 was based on the a Lola race car and originally designed and built by Ford UK.
True.
Title of the video should read 'Buying a real GT40 for the first time'.... lol
Gee, I miss this show so much. Great to see you again.
Best car video in years. Hits on all cylinders… some I didn’t know about. Art stops Time. Thank you.
Wow!
Congratulations Peter 👍🏻🇺🇸
I love these cars too, they're work's of art
I agree! I would really like to try it one day.
Very very few or these cars were ever built. After learning about the whole history of the GT40 and the four wins at Le Mans.
Would be such a honor to own such a car.
All I'll say is 1071 !!
It's worth alotmore now
Still one of the best car shows ever produced. Love it.
🙏
Simply one of the most beautiful cars ever!
Congrats on the purchase. We'll deserved and going to be well preserved. One of the most iconic cars in history. It's design is still exotic. A timeless thing of beauty.
Do we need a car like this? Nobody needs a car like this. Do we want a car like this! Absolutely! ❤
I’ve been following you, Gary and your restorations on Tv and UA-cam for years. You have a first class operation and you have top notch cars in your inventory that worth every penny you are selling them for !
Simply amazing and thanks for the great content!!!
From the office decor, it looks like Harley has something of a military aviation background.
You got a deal peter.. I saw it in person, its sublime. Love the original ones.. cheers guys.. maybe ill see you at mecum..
Only 3 million? I'll take two.
I would have thought two million would have bought this. This was quite a while ago.
WOW JUST WOW!!!
Did You Need this GT40?
Heck NO
BUT YOU BOUGHT A WOW CAR, AWESOME!!!
So amazing!! Videos are great!
So right about the spoked wheels. It is also weird how wrong they looked in the track footage. Dress shoes on a basketball court.
EXCELLENT content!
That MV Augusta tho...
I rode one on a Demo ride day at a local dealership that had them briefly.
I played golf at a course in Milton (Condo Now)Back in 2003.Behind me was Tom and his young son getting in 9 holes.Told him i loved his show.R.I.P. Tom😢
I've got a set of the FORD press docs for the GT40 MK1 and MK2... it was in with a ton of old SCCA and Porsche docs from the 60's I acquired from the widow of an old SCCA racer.
Peter and Gary
Hope to see this at the GT40 event in July.
Nice video…
Jeff
I’ll take a replica over a real one for driving, but the investment factor is king!
That should be a 6 million plus car. Private sales are all over price wise. But I'd hang on to that one. Harley is a great wheel man too..I know you wanted to offer him 2.8 ish.. 🤭 wires look great.. Gary needs to drive it too..
Peter, been looking forward to this video.
Simply.....Amazing!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Miss Tom!
Shifter on the right of driver sweet
Peter, I grew up watching your show❤ do you have any books or videos on the ins and outs of the business for someone that would like to follow your foot steps? Do I need a car like this 😂
no less important than a GTO Ferrari and a fraction of the cost
As soon as he got on it I was ok who do I pay! That thing sounds so damn good! Well I just heard the price it's a bit high then I would want to pay but 2.5 who be about right unless you just had to have it and then 3 mill it is! Kinda hard to get them off that price I understand that's what I would price it at!
As I remember this is from your show quite a while ago (miss it by the way). Do you still own the car or have you turned it?
Beautiful ...
3 million dollar Time Machine.
Congratulations! Looks much better with the wire wheels. What is the mileage on it?
Harley - we’re not going to zing it. Seconds later gets on it!
Beautiful
Wicked car!
Super! Peter, I want to see actually drive the car. We know you know how to drive now put the hammer down please.
Very cool
"First On Race Day" congrats!
I have to have a GT40 in my life... I'm going to have one.
Okay not a real one, I plan to drive mine pretty much every day. Seriously I do... But I just have to have one.
being bugging a guy for decades on his Boss 9 that just sits in a building and looked like new. has the tank even drained . turns out someone offshore heard of it too and a bag of money stole it away
Which motor and year is it?
I saw this video years ago?!
That street GT40 seems to be MUCH more Spicy than the road spec. one Matt from CarWow drove, that is in the Peterson Magazine guru's collection. That one Matt drag raced against the '05 and the '17. I thought all the street GT40's only had the 306hp Shelby Mustang spec. single Holley carb engine. Do you why this one's got the Weber's ?!
Congrats
three million dollars ? that's over the limit
Boy this was a long time ago.
Anyone know what the story is with the glass over the carb intakes?
My initial thought was to keep anything from inadvertently falling down into the carbs, while still letting air get in. Made from lexan so you can still see the beauties.
Is it wrong that a beautiful GT 40 arouses?
I remember seeing this ten yrs ago. 3 million seemed high, wonder what its worth now?
"Klute Money" has no boundaries 💰💯
Hi Peter , don't have the money 4 an original or new 2005/6 version. Or the new Mk 1.
However if money 💰 wasn't an object l would go with the Mk1 from a Queensland Australian Company. And a 2005/6 money 💰 available. Not a fan of the newer versions personally.
❤ 'ed Ur TV Show . 📺 Robert Australia 🇦🇺.
I trust you did not pay the asking price.
He definitely got shitty when you asked to drive it…
Imagine how many PEOPLE you could help with $3 million. My ego would be 3 million times more boosted helping PEOPLE than purchasing something that will barely get used. Its enough for me to see it on this video, and know it exists, more than covetously lusting for it. Cool car for sure. I value people over objects tho.
Don’t Ball it up!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
HEY PETER! WOULD YOU HIRE! ( BADD CHADD ) TO PAINT YOUR CARS, OR HE COULD BUILD YOU A VW - BUGGATTI OUT OF MUFFLER EXHAUST PIPE! GUARANTEED CERTIFIED!
This is a Replica Correct??
No. it's a real one, hence the price.
@@grahambell4298 Ok my bad I didn’t watch it yet thx,What was the price??
@@cutoverpark9596 A hefty 3 million US$. And apparently this is an old show.
@@grahambell4298 Sounds about right,Mercedes just sold a 1965 300 SLR from their private collection for a cool $142million and the one that Sterling Moss raced is valued at nearly $400million….Thx for replying..
@@cutoverpark9596 A successful racing heritage in the hands of top drivers always puts the price up. But it has become ridiculous.
A bargain, I suppose, compared to a Ferrari GTO
Wire wheels do not look race car.
They sure were, until the early 60s !!
Big deal! Bit Coin, downtown Toronto Condos, and GT40's. It's purely a business investment. Nothing wrong with that, let me be clear, but damn few buy these cars to drive and watch depreciate with every mile and stone chip.
Well some are still actively raced in historic racing, so not all owners wrap them in cotton wool.
@@grahambell4298 Goodwood for a great example....even the prangs add to their legitimacy in my humble opinion !!
