Listen to Joe's new song exclusively available to stream here: www.ikmultimed... (recorded with AmpliTube Joe Satriani and AXE I/O)
Watch our live interview with Joe Satriani where the guitar legend himself talks about AmpliTube Joe Satriani. Get authentic Joe Satriani tones on your Mac/PC or iPhone/iPad with AmpliTube Satriani, created with the man himself.
In this seventh video in the series, Joe shares how he met Paul Chandler and how he has multiple favorite Chandler Tube Driver pedals and how he chose his favorite pedal to model in AmpliTube Joe Satriani (the Tube Overdrive in AmpliTube) from Joe himself, interviewed by Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance, BPMD). IK modeled the pedal used to record the title track of Surfing with the Alien and the head of Satch Boogie!

Based on Joe's personal Chandler® Tube Driver, this overdrive pedal offers generous distortion thanks to its onboard 12AX7 valve.

What I really appreciate about the IK stuff is that you still have to put in the work to craft your own sounds. It’s not just “push a button and go”. All of Joe’s kit is great because I still feel like I sound like myself and not just a clone of Joe.

Good point. I've been using AmpliTube for years (before I was with IK Multimedia) and have found myself using the artist collections for mostly original tone crafting and rarely for "covers" or emulating a very specific tone from a song. With AmpliTube Joe Satriani, these are workhorse classic pieces of gear that can easily create tones that Joe himself never has used. Same with AmpliTube Brian May, Dimebag Darrell Cowboys From Hell collection, and others. It's great to have all of these tools that legends had, though, it certainly makes finding awesome tone a lot easier.

@@ikmultimedia Agreed. I have to admit that I don’t really foresee myself owning any amps in the future because I’m so happy with AmpliTube. Bear in mind that this is coming from someone that by the time I was 18, my parents were almost driven to the point of tattooing the phrase “TURN YOUR AMP DOWN!!!!” onto my forehead. 😂😂😂 I’m not anti-amp by any means, but the fact that I can keep all my tones on my iPad and it takes seconds to fire up and go is so much fun! And I’m also bragging about it to all my guitarist friends to get them into it, too. I have the Satch Pack at the moment, and between that and the stock amps and pedals, I’m very happy.

Joe Satriani talking about the Chandler Tube Driver pedal, amazing to know that apart from Eric Johnson and David Gilmour he is an avid user of that pedal,am so stoked to have one of those for myself albeit a gift from Eric Johnson himself 😊😎☺️❤️

In the late 1980's, I rescued one of these from the discount bin at a music store. I guess it was being blown out because everything was going digital and rack unit. But I really liked the sound of the Tube Driver. It was an '87, B.K. Butler designed, distributed by Chandler, widow-maker AC cord. Still my fave.

I have an original Chandler version with the transformer in the wall plug and I think I sounds great.

I like and use the original Butler Blue Tube with the 3 band EQ- cheaper and more versatile. Use an old GE 5750 tube. From clean boost to violin sustain.

has anyone cloned this thing yet? It sounds like it's a passive drive to your amp gain without changing your sound. It brings in a bit of high that I can dial it out. the best I have seen.
