Driven: The Art and Design of The One

- As electronic motorcycles continue to make inroads, Driven gets a behind the scene look at "The 1" by Curtiss Motorcycle Co.
Hand-built in New Orleans, this bespoke bike is described as "rolling artwork," and its function-follows-form design is considered revolutionary.
And still, they let Driven's host Tom Gregory take a prototype for a drive.
Plus, a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles to see the Curtiss as part of the Electric Revolutionaries: Designers at the Edge exhibit
If you go to the south end of Keuka Lake in New York State is the city of Hammondsport. There you will find the Glen Curtiss museum, showcasing all of Mr. Curtiss's inventions from his 1, 2, and 3 cylinder "V" configuration motorcycles to his air-cooled V8 that set the world record for high speed of 136 MPH in 1903 on Daytona Beach. You do not have to even pay to see that motorcycle as it is right near the cash register as you walk in. His airplanes are hanging from the ceiling and by the way, this is the site of the first aircraft flight lasting over a mile. It is fitting that your beautiful electric bike bears the name Curtiss as does the name Tesla for the electric car.
The Glen Curtiss Museum is now on our "To DO' list; thank you for the travel tip! More stories like this are coming to our channel, so please subscribe! Thanks again for watching!
Ha! So in 29APR2023 Curtiss Motorcycles is building the Rolex of motorcycles. How about that! First Principle engineering design, the artistic feelings are ancillary emotions developed from essential engineering process. 🌟 Here is a gold star for CMOT.
Love the line about passion
Hammondsport NY, Glen Curtiss Museum is a must see.
I just went last weekend. Fantastic place
This is the finest motorcycle design I have ever seen in my whole got damn life

6 figures is out of my price range but it sure looks great, I would love to take it for a spin.
Prototypes are never cost effective. In production, it would be mid to high 5 figures depending on the target clientele (like evolution of Tesla models).
There is no doubt that it is a masterpiece of engineering❤

There‘s no doubt that the show presents it as such. Big blocks of aluminium don‘t tell anything about that. It only shines, similar to chrome. Neither does going on a straight line on the main road in New Orleans, my Vespa can do that. Oh I have none, see, that‘s the thing with stories. They‘re easy to tell if you‘re used to sell the crap out of irrelevant bikes for 2 decades and lure investments in.
Because it's engineering-first, it's the best performing and best handling motorcycle, period.
The ride is sublime! More stories like this are coming to our channel, so please subscribe!
JT Nesbitt is a contemporary Leonardo da Vinci, with his remarkable creation, the Curtiss One, showcasing impeccable symmetry and exceptional performance. Not only does this motorcycle possess a striking appearance, but it also delivers outstanding raw numbers, making it a strong contender for display at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Saturday and racing at Laguna Seca on Sunday. This masterpiece could easily take the rigors of being ridden from San Francisco to Monterey, raced with the dependability of a light switch, and then taken out for brunch after the race on Sunday.

@@tomgotv absolutely!
It is truly a work of art, and a very functional one. By design or accident it is beautifully steampunk. The video however drove me crazy with the flashing effects for each scene transition, pulsating rough sketch graphics and short cuts. Just wanted a nice slow pan over the bike for about 10 seconds.
Amazing but so expensive! I wish I can get one .
I love the Steampunk inspired design.
That’s the first thing that came to mind. Very cool
👌👌👌

The thing about any EV is range and how long it takes to recharge. So what are they?
Power comes from a 8.8kWh battery, which Curtiss says gives The 1 a city range of 120 miles in urban riding and 70 miles at highway speeds.Jul 27, 2022
EV is garbage
Want one

This video drove me crazy! I personally will not want the bike. You can give it to me for free, but it is not for me. It is not my type. Than again I love the passion and the deal to go far and wide in search of excellence.
Who knows if Electric Motorcycles will take off, but right now, the risk is minimal at less than .20 cents a share and I'll be damned if I miss out as I did on Netflix or Bitcoin.
I see anything that gets more motorcycles on the road as a win for motorcycle culture because more riders means more awareness on the road.
8:21 the look of a rebel? NOPE He aint no Sonny Barger!
LiveWire One is a bit similar at least the motor block position and design and teh name :)
They look cool but I rode a livewire and it was one of the worst handling bikes I've ever ridden. It was so stiff you had to fight it every time to turn. And this is from a guy that rides a Harley road glide
@@MrFebruaryfire my Zero S arrived yesterday, also very hard to turn and move compared to my previous electric motorcycle (Cineco City Slicker) no reverse gear etc.
Shame it’s not a gas motor and too expensive fantastic design
We'll have more stores like this, primarily gas-powered, so please subscribe to our channel if you can. Thanks!
Gorgeous bike but I'd rather a penegale.
You know what else is gorgeous? This UA-cam page. If you liked the video, please subscribe so we can get on a Ducati!
Zero Motorcycles. Be back in 10 years to see how ya'll doing.
I happen to have a Zero. And I can only use it locally. When I’m going on a real long distance ride…. I jump on my Harley
14:00 FALSE... I know at least 3 other motorcycle that can do that
It is beautiful but MV Agusta Italian beautiful…not quite.
"Being a rebel is cool" rides by on silent motorcycle that looks like an air conditioner.
Unfortunately .... it looks like taste gone bad.
WTF is this thing for?
it's garbage.
Way too pricey for a MOTORCYLE. I'll use the money to buy a Cybertruck AND a Cyberquad instead.
EV ?
nah thx but thx , looks pretty but that’s about it
We understand, and we love our ICE, too! Thanks for watching. More stories like this are coming to our channel, so please subscribe!
Great. just what the motorcycle market needs, another elitist product that a working man can't afford.
I'll keep riding my Honda's
Absolutely Beautiful. Too bad it is electric. Stick a mean V-twin and I'll place an order for one tomorrow.
Then buy an arch,
@@OSOFLHP Not a bad idea.....A bit expensive but I can afford it.
They cut no corners, new model is sick, 143, limited production,
👌👌👌
