When I went to the memorial park as a Boy Scout in 1965, there were white stakes in the ground marking the positions of British dead. There were so many. The whole area is suprisingly small. It's kind of unique to hear the story told from any British perspective. Thank you. Are there any histories written by British survivor of the battle?

I find it sad, that the importance of the War of 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans was to this country. Ive always seen this war as our country's confirmation as an independent nation. And although the trety to rnd the war was in route to Washing DC it wasn't signed by congress yet. Had the Battle of New Orleans been lost, England would have changed that treaty. Jefferson said that who ever controled the port of New Orleans would be a enemy of the U S.

The Mississippi River around New Orleans is a mile wide. A volume of 700,000 gallons of water flow past that point every minute. Not a chance you're shooting across the river effectively. And you aren't rowing across easily. The minor battle on the west bank was meaningless.

Jackson remains a brutal racist till his death and NEVER has any inkling of Americas true promise....hes an absolutely clueless racist....and should nt really be considered a founding father because of it.... Jackson is the ONLY one of the founding fathers who sees no problem with slavery....and by that founding im mean the first 16 presidents till LINCOLN who finally ends the scouge.....

The resilience of Critical Race Theorists amazes me here, bravely trying to taint Jackson's Victory, when no one in the History of the Western Hemisphere had ever been able to unite so many of such different faiths, races, classes, and ethnicities in a Common Cause for Freedom! That tells me that they care not about the facts.

Chalmette is not South of New Orleans it is immediately adjacent more East by Southeast. When the British crossed the Mississippi River and marched up River Road on the West Bank, coming close to winning the battle, they travelled South across the river, or more southwest as the river current took them off course.. New Orleans geography is confusing. Line Jackson literally runs through a Walmart today and the location of the National Park called the Chalmette Battlefield is not truly the primary location of the battle. The area behind that Walmart is as well as across the river. Nothing about New Orleans both then and now is straight forward and subject to simple explanation.

This is not the truth ! The rag tag wasthe British at this tme! This particualrly British army had fought it's way from Canada all the way south, defeating American army after army and when the BRisith army did arrive, it was THEM that was out of ammunition and supplies and were hungry and rag tag. Imagine this, the rifles of the time were NOT accurate, that is why the element of fighting in formation was employed, so you could HIT the other troops, you could NOT individually, so the consideration of ambush and marksmanship is historically innacurate and is there fore BULLSHIT! The British attacked the Americans even THOUGH they were out of ammunitiont. As to THESE troops fought Napolean, what a load of crap, Britain could not spare their BEST troops, this enegement was bought about by the US invading Canada, not the British invading invading the USA, 1812 was THREE YEARS before the battle of Waterloo - so once again - BULLSHIT that the British had sent the troops freed up by the end of the Napoleonic war. The British didnt really GIVE A FUCK! At THIS particular time in history Britain was NOT a solid ally of Spain, it fought IN spain against the French and the British never wanted to go back to war in North America, REMEMBER it was the American invasion of Canada that was the catalyst and you are being told bullshit in this video.

They came from Jamaica with substantial troops that were based there along with some additional troops. They were much better armed, trained and experienced than the Americans. The Brits lots for most of the standard reasons that decided most battles throughout history, terrain, geography, logistics, weather, communicable disease, battlefield confusion and substantial bad luck.

Mass. Sen. Timothy Pickering should have been tried for treason for wanting a British victory. I know the yankee bastard had freedom of speech rights, but he should have followed through with his secession threat. That way, in the 45 years to follow there wouldn't have been meddlesome New England yankees in the Senate and House of Representatives stirring up strife among other members of the Senate & House and the population of America.
