Just to clarify. Cause I feel like some of you guys might be missing the point. You can get the Flow Suite plugin for free if you own all these plugins. You have to subscribe and then cancel, and then you can use the plugin from there on out. ( not sure why they won't just let you download, but day one stuff, I suppose) Also, the subscription gives you credits towards buying the plugins. So it's not like you just rent the plugins; you will eventually own them. I'm not advocating for Softube one way or another, but it should be pointed out.
I was interested and even have most of the plugins but I won't sign up for anything that even hints subscription. That's my red line. Nice demonstration though as usual.
Love Ozone for all my mastering needs. It's the prime, in my opinion. Flow reminds me of T Racks by ik multimedia. Which is still awesome. You can get great results out of any of them. I just feel Ozone is still king.
not sold on this one. Ozone sounded better each time in your video, altough I would back off some things of course. Flow version has a thin and annoying sound, Ozone sounds more balanced and neutral to the ear. The low mids are warmer and highs are better controlled on Ozone
Yeah, I personally don't subcribe to any one Mastering suite such as Ozone, Slate etc... I own all of them but I find that Creating my own chains works best. So I use a hybrid of plugins.
If you own the products that he uses. There is no subscription you get those flows for free. Obviously, if there’s a product in that flow that you don’t own, you don’t have access to that flow. It’s a nice incentive for people that already know the products.
This is not normal subscription, you pay in installments and own the plugins if you like them at the end.. or you can buy them right away so you have both options.. softube the quality is the best worth checking..
I still feel like Masterplan has the edge at the moment when it comes to all in one mastering, especially the new price. That said, people I know who are experts in Ozone can create magic with that thing. I think Flow needs work, not a surprise as it's version 1, and different mastering engineers could put their own settings in for different genres. Right now it sounds a bit tinny and reliant on plug-ins which are many years old.
Can you compare the Oz11 with the Neves MBT? I just got the Neves and Im thinking the Oz sounds so much better. Im trying to use both and getting decent results. The Neves, you just have to dial everything back and make tiny adjustments if you want to add to what the Oz did. Thoughts??
The issue I've noticed with most analog copies is that THD style saturation compounds when using multiple analog plugins creating that annoying tinny tone... You gotta be really sparing when using these things... The fake analog saturation is nice when you use one or two near the end of the chain... But stacking them like that really creates that playing through saran wrap tone... Don't get me wrong... Soft tube has some of my absolute favorite plugins... But things can be overdone...
I'm with you. The flow wrapper with the flow presets would be something good to sell. Especially if it came with the option to create your own flows (which is not the case right now - you can only tweak the existing ones).
@@Moonraker-xyz If ones already owns the Softube plugins, you just subscibe and cancel, it is a bit akward but it doens't cost a dime to use the 'Flow'
Waiting to see if Plugin Alliance or UAD come out with something similar. I really rate Soft Tube and think this is a great plugin with some very, very good components. But I still like Ozone 11 at the moment - especially the ability to load my own tracks as reference for mastering!
Great job demoing this, Matty. I started mastering my own stuff because I wasn't happy with the masters I got back (never tried Matty, though, but learned a ton from the tips). Now Softube wants me to trust their mastering even without listening to my music? No tnx, I've learned my lessons by now. The macros are cool, but not flexible enough, and sub is not going to happen.
I don't know man, learning how to actually use a DS1 Mark 3 was a huge game changer for me. I don't think we're doing anybody's any favors to dumb it down.
I really don't like the idea of "this software versus that software," because in this era of digital, where the modern producer likely has everything or could have everything, we need to look at these topics in a more holistic way. I use Ozone before and after the Flow suite, but only using the EQ. Before I hit Flow, I'm using a HP filter on the sides from 120hz+, then after flow, I use Ozone'e EQ to automatically balance the frequency curve.
@@blacktminister415 Ok. I didn't find any info about that. Only thing I saw was, with subscribtion you eventuall earn credits to "buy" those plugins which are included in Flow.
@@wdkbeats ozone is for losers. I actually know an engineer that was fired because he used ozone in a mix. there's a bad reputation of ozone in the industry.
Well this is quite crap. I have licenses to all but two softube plugins and i would still have to pay full price, despite their apparent attempt at a rent to own type model
f you already have perpetual licenses for some of the plug-ins included in Flow® Mastering Suite, you might already have perpetual access to one or more Flows - depending on what plug-ins you own.
@@jackflynn-oakley1937 What I typed was softubes tos, if u own most of them its simple, you start the free trial and when it runs out you still have all the modules that have the plugins you own..for free. Read the tos ,they explain it super easy, all the best.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why a company doesn't realize they need to offer a pay-once option with these software products. Subscriptions turn a lot of people off immediately (like me, for one).
night and day between ozone and flow. flow sounds thin and brittle, harsh. Ozone, maintains the body and punch. Ozone is meant to be tweaked as well. You should never just use what it initially spits out.
I get that. But keep in mind we didn’t really tweak much with either program. Except dialing back ozone a bit. I would do some self investigation with both program before coming to a conclusion on a 5 min UA-cam video. I think flow is a nice tool to have. Using both over the last few weeks sometime flow worked better sometimes ozone did. Sometimes I used the best of both.
@@mixedbymatty for sure. I have been doing my own blind tests. Flow vs ozone vs acustica . Flow lost in every battle. I was introduced to germanium compressor though, which I had never tried before, that things a beast!
100% agreement here with all saying NO THANK YOU to subscription models... a big FU to Microsoft 365 and Adobe for introducing this poison pill to the tech community...I'd rather pay for Winrar than send more subscription money to some software plugin factory.
Ozone sounds way better in your vid, and having demo'd Flow and done the same against Ozone on my own system, they aren't even close. And Ozone AI isn't great to start with. It's a bit of a pity that Flow doesn't let you put your own mastering chains, setup your own macro's... Sometimes you nearly hit a great spot but then it just falls short because you can't add something else in it that it really needs. Sure you can add it before or after flow on your master, but you can't add something in between anywhere, unlike Ozone. Heck you can't even change the order of effects in Flow. I'm not sure why Softube just put everything in stone as if that will work out for every song out there...
Awful song choices, vapid, factory made music, already compressed to the walls . . .but I guess that's what sells in 2024. I get the concept - it's a dumbed down mastering suite for "producers", not a serious tool for mastering engineers. It'll have its audience and might even do well in the crowded plugin market.
