    28:24 Pro-C2 can actually do "overcompression" or ratios beyond brickwall limiting. Set the ratio to 100:1 and then with the "mix" slider in the bottom right, increase it past 100%. I think that calling it "mix" is misleading, because it should be called "scale". It doesn't blend in the dry signal, which can only be done with the dry make-up gain.

    Here's a tip: use a tom sample in your convolution reverb and send your kick to it. Use length and size to tune the convolution. Can add great low end to kicks.

    • @lo-dose

      Don't understand your description. Use a Tom sample as the reverb itself? Then send kick to that reverb?

    • @EdwinDekker71
      @EdwinDekker71 8 місяців тому +1

      @@lo-dose yes, instead of loading an impulse response you can load any kind of wav file in most convolution reverbs. Try for example to load a pad sound. Can give very interesting results. A tom sample can work very well on a kick send. Tune and blend to taste.

    Your 'tutorial videos' are always so inspiring, which is so rare. Thank you very much for your work Dan! I'm hoping you can answer a question regarding "ducking"??😊 I rarely like it when the loudness of a kick strike heavily impacts how much the bass ducks.. sometimes i think it would even be better if the relationship was inversed (duck less for hard hits and more for soft hits). Do you have any tips for controlling the dynamics of the ducking?? I usually preprocess kick and snare in separate 'side chain channels' and limit the dynamic range of what goes into a compressor side chain. But I am guessing you might have some great tips on the matter!
    Anyone is ofcourse welcome to chip in on the matter 💖
    Thanks again!

  • @sinane.y
    @sinane.y 8 місяців тому +3

    Edit : I typed this comment before seeing trick 4, which comes close to what I described lol
    I "discovered" what is probably PM synthesis using Volcano 3.
    Goes like this : pure sine wave (for simplicity let's say it's 100hz) fed into V3. Then, allpass filter (clean style) at exactly 100hz. Then an XLFO to modulate the filter frequency.
    XLFO's speed and modulation amounts determine the level of added harmonics.
    Add a second XLFO to modulate the first one's frequency (and more if you want), and you get a very complex, harmonically rich signal.
    Use multiples of the sine wave's frequency for XLFO speed, and it affects the timbre in a more musical way.
    Change filter poles for even more complex sounds. Add different envelopes to modulate the XLFO's modulation amounts.
    In Bitwig (and possibly other DAWs) you can create mappings so that the sine wave, the filter and the XLFO frequencies can all be linked to play with MIDI notes (up to a certain point, I believe the XLFOs have an upper limit).
    Add different envelopes to modulate the XLFO's modulation amounts -bam, evolving harmonics.
    To take it even further, after the first allpass filter modulation creates upper harmonics, add allpass filters to THOSE harmonics and modulate them the same way.
    I don't have enough technical knowledge to understand what happens, but it's cool as cucumber

    About the tip n 15) I made an "exponential widening eq" with 2 proq3 in series, following the same principle but with carefully selected "exponential frequencies" (it's surely wrong how I call it but is to give an idea) complementing each other. I can even turn a mono bass into a stereo bass with a very interesting rich sound and "movement" while keeping a perfect mono compatibility. I think this is the best way to make a mono sound stereo without losing anything when you listen in mono, particularly for elements with low end content.

  • @Alckemy
    @Alckemy 8 місяців тому

    Big ups Dan, to @fabifilter, please give us a pro q option/knob where we can move all of the eq nodes together in your next update. A scale function would also make me a very happy camper. It’s super frustrating that timeless and volcano can do it but not the Eq.
    Modulators and dynamic eq control would also be great!
