5 People Who Set Traps For Package Thieves

- 5 People Who Set Traps For Package Thieves. It's estimated that over 11 million parcels get stolen from doorsteps per year in the US alone and this is costing companies billions to replace them and this number is only rising.
Now it's possible to take some preventative measures to stop this from happening to you. Set up CCTV, or get a safe box for example. But for some people, they've taken these measures and their deliveries are still being taken
and its got to the point they're so fed up by these porch pirates that they've decided to do something about it and seek some revenge and deal out some instant karma and have a little fun along the way.

Just put boxes filled with trash,
Boom they be taking out your trash
But dependent on thieves, will teach them but cost for box.
Well then they would be taking me out
Or just put cat litter in Amazon boxes
Dude work at nasa youre a genius
Brilliant!
No matter how many times i hear these stories or watch the videos it never ceases to amaze me that people do this. It just blows my mind.
I second that! These people disgust me. There’s an old but simple rule to follow... if it ain’t yours DONT TOUCH IT!!
I know a guy who left out a briefcase with a pissed off rattlesnake in it...
I've heard stories of a suitcase with a P-O'd bobcat in it!
It's funny to think how we must invent devices to scare people off of our porches like they are raccoons or something..
Mine will do more than scare.
Not as funny as it is sad!
put a hornets nest inside the box. once it's open, those folks are screwed (added: yes, will put "open at own risk" notifications) in fine print
Not that i have anything against that, but there's a huge lawsuit waiting if they snitch...
Angel Gutierrez ...that’s the problem with America now...scum-sucking lawyer waiting under every rock to represent some form sub human filth
Angel Gutierrez yes, that is why you find an empty house, create the wasp box with the address of the empty house and then you wear black and leave it on the porch of that house, not your own.
Richard Well, in that case, ya might as well make it worse than wasps😆

Use the same ink they put in money wraps for bank robbers! That stains big time and it lets people know what you done!
Good idea. Excellent idea in fact.
@NWAZ flatEarther lol yes. Deffinetly kick em in the nuts if you get the oportunity :P
1) that relies on sensors near the bank's doors to trigger.
2) It will run the risk of ruining whatever clothes a good Samaritan may have on who is simply moving the package into their home for safe keeping (this is, assuming you are going to have the same trigger mechanism that banks do)
I had this same idea. Add in glitter so they can walk around like a blue sparkling smurf.
Do they sell bank ink ?.
What i find really weird is that is literally a federal law to take and open someone else's mail and who ever that takes the mail will have a felony charge, but the police didn't really seem to care in Mark Rober's video
Usps mail, not private deliveries eg fedex ups etc
If you live in "The Queen city of the Ozarks" the cops don't give a rat's ass what gets stolen from you.
I guess that video footage is not a sufficient identifier.

its time amazon make boxes with GPS built in...
That will cost so much..
@@Max-ew8cg Not if amazon requires the person to send it back. They are not very large and simply including a small return box or envelope means the customer could return it free of charge. If they do not return the GPS then amazon can simply lock the persons account until it is returned or payed for.

Over here in The Netherlands it's not allowed to leave a parcel unattended. The delivery guy can deliver to neighbours or if they aren't home, has 3 delivery tries (you can make an appointment online when he tries again but this is optional) if he can't deliver it, it'll be dropped off at the local parcel pick up point (usually at a supermarket) where you'll need id to pick up the parcel and you have 2 weeks to collect it or it'll go back to the store. You can also opt for direct pick up at pick up point or in the notes say don't deliver to neighbours if you have issues with that. But never ever will a parcel be dropped on a porch. I actually filed a complaint against a delivery guy that he dropped off a parcel unattended on my front bench. He got reprimanded and never did it again. I honestly don't get the American system.
Having just broken her leg, she should be easy to track down. I hope the police arrested her. Otherwise, these lowlifes will just steal again and again.
Only thing that would have been better is if the guy completely threw his back out trying to pick her up.
I know, right!!
Remember what country your in in America the thief could sue the home owner over her broken leg

In the UK, when someone isn’t at home and a package is delivered, the postman takes it to the nearest house and gives a note to both houses and then the person who wasn’t at home takes it themselves. You obviously have to show the note

Too bad you can't use a good old fashioned claymore mine. YAY, RED MIST!!
I propose a wire attached to the box that is also strung loosely across the top of the porch. Thief pulls box and the wire behind them goes taut and they trip during the run away. For added bonus, add 20 other random wires 2 inches above the ground and electrify them with an electric fence inverter set to go for 1 second every 10 seconds after the package is pulled over the next 3 minutes. Best yet, do so with real packages and tell the mailman to place packages upon the glue strip and step slowly away within 3 minutes.
My former Appartment building had a problem with this. Packages getting taken from my door, because it's close to a main road, and 2 miles from a widely known sleazy pawn shop that would frequently take in stolen goods.
Thankfully living on an island means virtually no crime, because everybody knows each other around the island. (I do miss having 4 malls to shop from.)
This rarely happens in my home state of Idaho, because most homeowners own guns. Therefore we have much less home robberies and Porch package thefts than other states.
Same here, I live in rural Alabama...
Our houses are protected by the 2nd amendment...
Where people are more likely to call a friend,

@@mssburr you better hope they fall into your house, as you could find yourself charged with homicide.
so what u are saying is that u are ready to kill a person for stealing a pack?
@@dadotroll No. Killing someone for stealing a package is not logical or rational. The point is because most Idaho owners have guns in their house and thieves know that here, we have much less home thefts and home invasions than other states that don’t allow home owners to possess firearms.

In Europe packages must be signed for by the recipient or else a note is left and the package is then collected from the depot. Solved.
Simple.
You can requesr that here in U.S ...don't know why people don't 😂
It's an option in the us also. Most are just lazy
Most people in Europe have absolutely no idea just how big North America is. The closest depots in my area for private package delivery services such as FedEx or UPS are over 30 km away, making for a round trip of some 60 km, taking 2-3 hours. Fetching packages from a depot is impractical.
@@Milosz_Ostrow Yup. Signature required service cost extra.
Also you have to be home for that to work.
If you were home your package wouldn't get stolen.
UPS has depots in my city so picking up package is an option.
Fed Ex ground's terminal is 45 or so miles away.
fed Ex Express used to have a terminal in my city but they closed it.
It would be a 50 mile drive one way to pick up an express package.
They mention the post office, they leave packages on your porch as well unless the sender paid for signature required.
My city has 2 post offices and they sometimes forget to tell you wich one has your package.
The best solution would be for police to take package theft seriously and for home owners to get cameras.
My neighborhood is bad enough UPS requires signatures on EVERYTHING doesn't matter if the shipper paid for signature serve or not.
You can sign online but that means you accept responsibility for theft.

Heard a story about similar things . Owner put a live rattle snake in the package . 😂😂👍👍 thief got a hell of a fright. Crapped him😂😂
How would you now hear the rattle before opening? I call Urban Legend on this.
@@fmaz1952
Because the story was told to me . by the guy who put the snake in the box. The thief only found out about the snake when he opened the package.
I wounder how it would be in law if the snake bit someone and they died?
Unintentional or intentional manslaughter?
@@gerrywhelan5761- Second degree murder. A hardnosed prosecutor might be able to make first degree murder stick. Quick plea down to first degree manslaughter.
@@algrayson8965 It's the intent, did he intent to hurt or to frighten ( well why did u not put in a non Poisonous shake in the box) that would be the tricky bit, could go either way, but some kind of a manslaughter charge would be the least that could be expected.
So in the us they just leave the parcel at your front door when your not home? Don’t ring at the neighbors or bring it to the post office and leaving a note?

I thought stealing mail was a federal offence!!!🏴
Lyn Morris what a joke...
So is deploying a booby trap
That's only for u.s. post office. I think.
One solution could be set up a fence and mailbox/package box. Of course it's too stupid rely on others honesty while your house is directly exposed to the street
Lyn Morris It's a federal offense to steal mail from the mailbox because the space inside it is "federal property "
I live in philly, this is a rampant problem here. There's a very easy way to stop this, but it kind of sucks. Tell your delivery people to not leave packages. I'd rather get a slip and drive to pick up my package than have it stolen.
Easy as pie. But this may be to simple and effective for quite a few folks here. Such violent and hate filled comments. Sad. Thanks Trump for making them feel at home and ok'd to express that way. Thanks take care.
I get parcels delivered to my work. Sometimes i will get them delivered to a friend or family member who will be home. Possibilities are endless. Of course smartest thing would be for a company to start delivering parcels at a time when people will be home rather than when they are most likely going to be out. A company the size of Amazon could easily do this. Guess it can't hurt them that much!
I was putting a small Jobox that the packages could be dropped into. Problem is I don't think the delivery people would use it. I put planters out and one is empty with a note to put delivery's inside. I've found them everywhere but inside the planter. :(
Sandy DiVa what about black on black on crime
Henry lol in philly, your planter would be stolen long before you'd get a package to put in it 😂
Amazon should put put tracking devices and it should send the info of where it is and go straight to your phone and when you have your package Amazon your phone tells you how to remove the tracking device and turn it off
but it may be alot of money LOL
In my country we have post offices. They should look into it.

Grats. No one careeeeeeee
I remember back in the days if you weren't home you'll get a sticker on the door telling you to pick up the package back to the UPS warehouse. I don't know what the hell happened?
between all the Pick ups they have to do and the amount of package delivered today makes that super hard. Simple thing is if you work have it sent to your work. or if you get lots of packages get a mail box service and have it sent there
They don't Evan nock on my door when I get a package
Have the packages delivered to your office or workplace, if possible. If it's coming via UPS or USPS, ask the sender if they can require a signature. You can also call local offices to say it's ok to leave it with a neighbor, provided that you of course trust them.
Ha ha......Here in South Africa you have to bring your porch in at night or it will be gone by the next day.
I use to lose desserts right out of my lunch bag at a big banking facility where I worked. I carried a unique bag and love to bake, so mine weren't your ordinary desserts. Well, I started using very special ingredients in my desserts and could always tell who the thief was because for the next few days, they would be stuck in bathroom, a lot. So satisfying, especially when I would walk in and hear them groaning. You get what you deserve.

@MJW I would settle for a small explosive charge surrounded by a few litres of stinky diarrhoea in a sealed plastic container (bag, or something else cheap).... I would rig the explosives with something so the charge goes off when the box is opened. The irritating part of this plan is I would miss the "action", but I think I can live with it.
The last example showed a woman slipping on the wet grass and breaking her leg attempting to get away quick with a stolen package.

As soon as I saw the word "laxative", the 1st words in my head were "oh no," but the thought of what would happen was hilarious XD
Well, it's in the US "alone" indeed. I mean here, they deliver only to us, they don't just drop at our doorstep, just to avoid thieves.
I bought a house not too long ago, I found out if someone is in your yard and gets hurt they have the right to sue you, anyway in Kansas. I had kids cutting through my yard I didn't care but felt to protect myself i had to put a stop to it. So i bet of course depending on the laws in your state if they get hurt they might be able to sue you. you might want to find out.
11 million parcels every year? - unbelievable.
We in my neighborhood have ONE HOUSE with someone who is always home as the place we deliver all our packages to so that when they are delivered they either bring to our doorstep or we can and have just go to their home and pick our packages up. We all pay a few dollars as a tip just because they willingly offered to do it and are quite happy and. It took awhile to convince them to take the money. But either way within a two block radius we now have never had anymore packages stolen. Hope more people try this or something like this especially is vulnerable and or high crime areas.
Thats awesome!

I was coming home from an appointment the other day and an Amazon delivery guy was stopped in front of me, I looked around and I could see packages in front of three houses, so just for the heck of it, i started counting all the houses I passed with boxed by the door, I passed about ten in 5 minuets.
Stuck on the loo for days 😂
This is why even many many years ago I saw this being a problem is why I use a package delivery/shipping and receiving business!!!!!
mark rober is amazing.
Dont they leave cards or drop it off to their neighbours in the US? This never happens in the UK or is very rare. This why I'm glad we got the Royal Mail in the UK. If you're not in, they drop off at the post office to collect the next day. Also, if it's delivered by someone else they never leave outside but drop it off to a neighbour
Our post office doesn't leave packages on the porch, but UPS and Fedex do. USPS will leave a card if they could not get someone to answer the door. In my neighborhood we have our mail boxes at a central location, and there are large locked boxes as a part of those mail boxes. When we receive a package that is too large for our mail box, the postal carrier will put it into one of those larger boxes and then place the key in our mail box. If its really too large then they will leave a card telling us to pick it up at the post office.
i rolled my bait box in poison oak.
Ooh You are Evil, I like the way you think.
69NOMAN69 noman
That is classic!
The people that deliver these packages should not leave them on the doorsteps, and that would solve this problem right there. Here in The Netherlands it's not allowed to leave packages outside for anyone to steal. If your not at home they leave a note and they come back the next day or leave the package at a collection point for the owner to pickup.
For the price of a package they put their priceless soul in jeopardy.

How can it be legal for a delivery company to just drop of the package infront of the door? It didn't even make sure the person receiving the package got it.
That's just... how it works. If the person who ordered it isn't at home, the delivery people can't really wait until they get home, because they have so many more people to deliver to.
@@moonstrike6188 I I understand that but he should do either:

Moonstrike in the UK if you're not home you can ask them to leave it in a safe place. Neighbours will also accept parcels for you, the courier puts a card through your door to tell you where it is. Regarding the laxative gummy bears, there's a very good chance they sold them onto innocent people who are now poisoned.
I don't feel bad.
Source: Those were my gummy bears.
I agree. What if they gave them to some kids or something and it caused some innocent child to be sick? It's taking a pretty big risk to poison food when you don't know who it will be consumed by. Even if it were the theives children, it's still not their fault their parent's are stealing packages and whatnot.
Don't feed dubious, stolen, legally manufactured candy to your kids. Who knows maybe they feed it to their kids and the kids hate candy forever and save them from a life of obesity and diabetes that leads them to be porch package stealing lowlifes.
The theoretical upside to this is pretty much limitless.
The thing about the Haribo sugar free gummies is that they COME that way from the manufacturer labled as candy. The guy who left the box didn't have to open and alter them, he literally just bought the product and let it get stolen. Look up the reviews on the 5 lb bags of sugar free haribo gummi bears, they're both haunting and hilarious.

I just figured it out! Ya know those old electronics that you have to pay to get rid of? Put them in a box & leave it on the porch! BAM! Problem solved! 😁
What about inventing a drop door that opens for delivery of boxes...much like a pet door. Activated by the UPS/FEDX/PO. Someone that gets regular deliveries wouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing their items. Make it optional. Invent a better way instead of a better mousetrap!
You could put a metal box that allows you to put things in but impossible to remove it without a key.
It has to be accessible to the delivery person. That's why a magnetic code is important. Of course if I was getting regular deliveries I'd have a fenced in yard with a Rottweiler or pit bull.
Apparently they have them. I said the same thing.
But they have them shaped like benches and such.
Funny .... but am I the only one thinking, why not change the delivery arrangement? In Denmark parcels are delivered directly to a parcel box in a local supermarket, a text is sent with the code and you pick up at your leisure. It saves the delivery company a huge amount of money too (for not having to drive door to door), and by the look of it, it would save companies and people a lot of money and hassle too. Love the glitter bomb though!!! LOL
I know I just think there so tight cheap bas**rds the companys that is.
Next thing you know people are ordering snakes and waiting for the porch pirate to come and take the package
Pretty sad that its like this in the US. Iv never had a package stolen and I dont know anyone that has in the UK. Iv had them not turn up when I ordered off ebay quite a few times though.
