  • Welcome to my van conversion series FINAL!
Follow my videos as I buy my first van and go head first into the deep end with no prior experience of van conversion work with a 3 month timer before I leave for Europe on my own.
All of this was done in my spare time whilst working a full time job 50hrs a week so I’ve been busy busy!
I got my van off Facebook marketplace and viewed it In the dark in a questionable area of Birmingham with a lovely chap in a tracksuit. Not by any means the way I’d recommend buying your first van but I was getting good vibes off it. (I just liked the green)
I’m trying to make it a living space for myself to travel across the whole of Europe whilst learning a thing or two along the way and sharing my journey with you. I’ll be making plenty of mistakes and probably have second thoughts about some things I do but it’s a race against the clock as I aim to leave the country on July the 4th to enjoy the back end of Summer 2022.
The van itself is a 2001 Volkswagen T4 in Fresian Green, the colour stood out more than anything with most campers being white, black or grey which appealed to me. It’s got a lot of “character” for sure… it’s a 1.9TDI with 67 of the finest brake horsepower with the engine just broken in at 191,000 miles! When it gets up to 60mph it sounds like a Boeing 747 except the only thing taking off on this van could be the solar panels!
Special shout-out to my dad for helping me on the interior, lots of it wasn’t filmed as it was just all hands on deck given the timeframe we all had to work with!
Feels good putting this video out there, I’m currently in Luxembourg 3 days into my van life trip now enjoying the fruits of my labour, so stay tuned and subscribe if you want to see the adventures.
Any questions, queries, tips or feedback please let me know!

Thank you, I want to do the exact same layout (DIY too) so this gives a good idea of what it might look like!

I had a shop around online, I can’t remember if I’m honest mate but the double swivel seat was a nightmare to find! 10 minute job to fit though

Watched all of the build videos & you have done an awesome job on it. I would like to do a conversion with a T4 but they are hard to get in good condition that aren’t expensive & overpriced, yours looks really nice buddy. would you mind letting me know how much you picked it up for 👍🏻

Oh that’s awesome thanks mate. I got mine off Facebook for £6500 and came with the pop top fitted and he threw in a fridge, luckily bottom half all resprayed and new arches. I was just keen to make sure the mechanics and bodywork were okay. Had to do a few basic jobs like roll bar bushes and drop links but minor work really.

Great Van build and loving the trips thinking of doing the same next year gonna purchase a T4 shortly. What kid of things did you look for when purchasing yours mileage etc ? Also what am I looking cost wise to get my van to similar level of yours ? Great vids keep em coming from a fellow midlander boing boing

Sounds like a top idea mate. Yeah so I could probably make a whole video about this but luckily my uncle is a T4 specialist so he shared his knowledge with me, basically rust is going to be your number one enemy for getting through future MOT’s. Common places which are £££ to repair would be under the sliding door sill, under the arches and if you take the black plastic kick plates off the front door entries and the sliding door entry. Other than that just look for good service history, look at old MOT and try and get one with cambelt done fairly recently as needs doing every 80-100k and is about 400£
