    I love this technique...I use a long kitchen towel roll for one of mine. I was teaching a friend and she simply bypassed the roll and picked up the rubber band ball to use. We had great fun making monotone patterns which we intend to colour for the nature journals we are currently constructing. I was reminded of this technique several years ago by another youtuber...it may have been Jennibellie...and have kept remaking rolls as they run out ever since...I think it should be on every artists 'must have' studio list :D

    i really love the way your papers look when you combine coffee and alcohol inks. howevwr, when i spray either coffee or tea onto any paper that i've previously sprayed alcohol ink on, the ink blooms and turns this weird green and yellow color. i use the tim holtz sprays. i don't know what's wrong with mine.

    Robyn, I'm curious - is there any need to use acid-free tissue as opposed to regular? The paper loses its acid-free status, I would think, once you introduce coffee. I'm wondering if regular tissue would work. Thanks for another fun, creative video - the best part of my Saturdays!

    • @RobynMcClendon
      @RobynMcClendon  2 роки тому +2

      Sure you can use regular tissue I do all of the time, however I've noticed two things, 1. the acid free is a strong tissue paper and seems to hold nicely to all of the water and use on the Gelli plate, 2. in acid free products generally in most cases the papers are produced have less tree products which are high in acids. That said, the only time any product is truly held to acid free is if you don't introduce any tap water as well as many other products but I mention water because that's the main one that gets by most people. spring or mineral waters are best. I've seem many people for instance be very careful about all of their supplies but then use city tap water to mix their watercolors. Honestly the main question to ask is how long do I want the artwork that I'm creating to last most things we're making will last a 100 years with various degrees of deterioration. So I say have fun enjoy the process and when it matters top up your products to eliminate deterioration over the long run. Great question, Thanks for asking! :)

    • @sue8237
      @sue8237 2 роки тому +1

      @@RobynMcClendon Thank you for answering with so much useful info, Robyn! You are absolutely right about the water used in w/c - I've been a professional watercolorist for many years and know a number of purists who only use spring or mineral water. I didn't even think about that - we don't think about the acids in water, but they are there. I do think the strength of the paper is important given the soaking it takes and didn't realize that the A/F was stronger than the general use one, so that is good to know. I'm always stunned at the beauty of your stash of papers and what they bring to your work, so I really enjoyed this video. Thanks as always for another fabulous video and for always sharing your vast wealth of knowledge and experience with us. I truly appreciate it!

    My work is mostly acrylic on canvas but want to incorporate some of this collage without having to invest in yet again other products if I can make sprays with acrylic paint. You mentioned making with ink and alcohol, but any problems using a watered down acrylic substitute? Txz so much for all your info! Jeanne

    • @claudiabauman3486
      @claudiabauman3486 Рік тому

      You have to be careful with watering down acrylic too much. Using air spray additive to the paint allows it to stay cohesive and the pigment and glue or base remain in emulsion.

    Do you mix anything into the coffee? How much coffee to water do you mix....I did some in a spray bottle a few weeks ago, and here in Florida it molded in 3 days!

    • @RobynMcClendon
      @RobynMcClendon  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Deborah I generally will use a cheap dollar store coffee I think it's more dye than flavor, lol Proportions is a cup of the instant coffee to 3 cups water roughly you can play with it to adjust the color intensity and then adding Rubbing Alcohol is a must it will keep your mixture from molding, a table spoon will be enough I can keep the mixture on my desk for months without any problems! Good Luck! :)
