@@Hyperdriveuk holy cow didnr expect for you to reply anyhow i meant detective themes They were a staple back in the days and it would be great if you could give us recommendations and a little insight how the genre change
Oh, so you reserved The Crow for this list. Nice list btw! I would like to add a few: I Saw the Devil (2010) Sympathy For Lady Vengeance (2005) Blue Ruin (2013) Confessions (2010)
Rarely anyone points out that The Crow is sort of a remake of "The Wraith". However, you would not thing that a guy who writes such dark grafik novels wears shorts and a Haweii shirt.
Great selection! :D For those interested I add some too: Vengeance (Johnny To) - about a guy who lost his momery and helps himself finding the murderes of his family with little hints he stored on photos, nice plot twists too A Devilish Homicide aka A Bloodthirty Killer (Lee Yong-min) - sort of psycho-revenge- thriller classic from 1965, I was very surprised it being real good Last Man on Earth (Sidney Salkow, Ubaldo B. Ragona) - first and best adaptation of "I am Legend", shifted perspective Lucky Number Slevin (Paul McGuigan) - spiked horse race kills a family and a very weird revenge plan is being figured out Harry Brown (Daniel Barber) - old british Marine Corps guy is pissed of with his neighbourhood after they killed his only friend left / with Micheal Cain Get Carter (Mike Hodges) - Micheal Cain again going after a syndicate when he learns that the daughter of his brother was raped / sort of John Wick just with a less likeble killer Irreversible (Gaspar Noe) - after Monica Belucci got raped for about 11 min in one take her friends go balistic, insanity Sonatine (Takeshi Kitano) - when Yakuza Murakawa learns he's not wanted in his clan anymore he got really pissed of
Good choice of excellent films, HyperDrive. You should check out I Spit on Your Grave (1978). Update: Just noticed someone recommended this film already in comments. Adding a few others. The Brave One (2007) Double Jeopardy (1999) Red (2008)
Sweet! Excellent channel. I always enjoy the content and like that some of these movies are outside the box of what I would usually watch. I must say that I haven't been let down by any of your suggestions yet. Thank you for such an awesome channel and keep up the good work. 👍
@@Hyperdriveuk I will have to think on that one. You already come up with so much great stuff on your own. I will definitely give it some though and get back to you. Thanks!
Awesome list, thanks! The Crow is probably my favorite movie ever, but I'd missed a couple of the other classics on this list, so have some homework to do! :D
Just saying that this movie is about revenge is a huge SPOILER, but i think that Lucky number Slevin is great revenge movie exactly because up to a certain point you didn't even know it was about that.
Yes I guess it is a massive spoiler LOL! It's the problem with the theme rather than genre. I mean I literally spoil 50% of every movie on this list just to describe it!
Nice one. I wanna start be a star action movie actor here in Nigeria. I mean, serious, emotional, rough, bleak, tense, bloody, brutal, suspense, exciting, intense . I love your Ideas. My dreams sir. Be my mentor sir. God bless 🤝
Yes they are revenge movies LOL! I like all of them- but as it's a plot point to a movie there are 100's of good films with this plot point. I was quite spoiled tbh... usually it's quite hard to pick a balanced selection.
You said man on fire turns into a complete shit storm of brutality and extreme violence , never heard it described that way , but accurate nonetheless!!! One of my favorite movies , and enjoy your channel !!
Great list, loved seeing The Crow and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance. I recommend: I Saw The Devil, as its another amazing Korean thriller /revenge movie well worth checking out.
Spoiler of the end of I Saw The Devil don't read if you didn't watch it!!!! Whaaat ?!! i just watched I saw the devil and it's garbage, at least the end, it's not gory enough, wtf was that, he just cut his head for all he did, i expected he would cut all his members and make their family eat them, then cut his dick and sew that to his mouth, then take a horse and make the horse rape his ass day and night while his family watches it, then he should've close a rat on his stomach so the rat eats his stomach, put larvas inside the d who is sewed to his mouth so they dig inside his body, the he should've do the human centipede thing to his family with him at the end, and keep doing medieval stuff for the rest of his life or for a long time, that ending was bullsit, it wasn't enough punishment for what he DID!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭i wil go sleep f that movie:/
Revenge "best served cold"? Okay but also QUICK without fanare, hesitation or any sort of dilly dallying around! LOL...But most of all? without witnesses or DNA evidence etc.... Also provide yourself a good alibi! LOL
there si a movie that a guy take revenge on a gang of bikers that killed is family in is son or daughter birthday and he come to there club and kick there ass and save some woman from one of them then he killed one of them and then they come to him and he kick there ass
I like your lists but this perfectly sums up why I don't tend to watch your videos even though I'm subscribed, you terribly spoil them, so I end up not watching anything you suggest.
With this video I agree 100% with you as the plot device for the film is a spoiler in itself. HOWEVER I go to great length to NOT spoil movies on all my other vids. I use RT and IMDB as reference points to see if I'm giving away too much info. So if I spoil, then they do too.
For that exact reason! I was expecting lots of oldboy comments, but poor Mr vengeance always gets put in the corner somewhere... so I thought meh, go for the weakest link in the trilogy.
I don't think there has been a strong one yet... it would need to be a streaming service 5-10 part show. I love this one because it's so hollywood and cheesy.
LoL mainstream! I picked an obscure cult Japanese movie from 1962! Revenge movies are super common anyhow- my next video is full of them and it's based on Roman films lol!

Detective films
As in movies with detectives, or a detective theme (but no detectives)?
@@Hyperdriveuk holy cow didnr expect for you to reply anyhow i meant detective themes
They were a staple back in the days and it would be great if you could give us recommendations and a little insight how the genre change
"Mandy" with Nicolas Cage is also really great
This is a very stylish, fun one - with a bit of fantasy: "Revenge" (2018) Directed By Coralie Fargeat. Ha!
Yeah I thought Revenge was a decent movie- think I did a review of it when it 1st came out.
Upgrade is a MUST see imo
Agreed !!!
Oh, so you reserved The Crow for this list. Nice list btw! I would like to add a few:
I Saw the Devil (2010)
Sympathy For Lady Vengeance (2005)
Blue Ruin (2013)
Confessions (2010)
Blue Ruin is a great one, I saw the devil ofc an instant classic in my books! Need to check out confessions!
You have to watch it! The opening monologue is chilling
Wish I had seen this comment before I posted mine haha😂
Rarely anyone points out that The Crow is sort of a remake of "The Wraith". However, you would not thing that a guy who writes such dark grafik novels wears shorts and a Haweii shirt.
i would also say the first Mad Max is great as well!!
Almost put that on the list- it's a classic and then some.
Great selection! :D
For those interested I add some too:
Vengeance (Johnny To) - about a guy who lost his momery and helps himself finding the murderes of his family with little hints he stored on photos, nice plot twists too
A Devilish Homicide aka A Bloodthirty Killer (Lee Yong-min) - sort of psycho-revenge- thriller classic from 1965, I was very surprised it being real good

Lucky Number Slevin (Paul McGuigan) - spiked horse race kills a family and a very weird revenge plan is being figured out
Harry Brown (Daniel Barber) - old british Marine Corps guy is pissed of with his neighbourhood after they killed his only friend left / with Micheal Cain
Get Carter (Mike Hodges) - Micheal Cain again going after a syndicate when he learns that the daughter of his brother was raped / sort of John Wick just with a less likeble killer
Irreversible (Gaspar Noe) - after Monica Belucci got raped for about 11 min in one take her friends go balistic, insanity
Sonatine (Takeshi Kitano) - when Yakuza Murakawa learns he's not wanted in his clan anymore he got really pissed of
oh, I forgot: be very careful with Gaspar Noe movies. At least his first three. He is a class of his own.
Thanks man!

The Brave One (2007)
Double Jeopardy (1999)
Red (2008)
Everybody should watch GET CARTER.
Count of Monte Cristo is a great movie. Glad you gave it a shout. Also keep an aye out for a young Henry Cavill in a supporting role.
Sweet! Excellent channel. I always enjoy the content and like that some of these movies are outside the box of what I would usually watch. I must say that I haven't been let down by any of your suggestions yet. Thank you for such an awesome channel and keep up the good work. 👍

Man on fire is ******* epic

Nice a new upload😎👍
I love sympathy for Mr Vengeance with all my heart but why that above Oldboy (or just the Vengeance trilogy?)
Well Oldboy is on every revenge list I found.. so it was a bit cliche- that and Mr Vengeance always get neglected!
True Mr vengeance is up there with Park's best work. You pumping out allot of videos man these days, very impressive! They are all great lists
i also missed oldboy. still not a well known movie compared to john wick. at least parks movie.
I wonder if there's particular reasons why "Death Wish" (with Bronson of course) and "Oldboy" wasn't on this list?
Will be checking out John Wick and Harakiri and Count of Monte Cristo this weekend. I can't believe I haven't seen them yet. Great list
Dead Man's Shoes.
knob head Absolutely!
"Better watch them false notes."
"Like so?"
Just saying that this movie is about revenge is a huge SPOILER, but i think that Lucky number Slevin is great revenge movie exactly because up to a certain point you didn't even know it was about that.

Jodie Foster movie The Brave One is pretty good
John Wick is my favourite action movie franchise.
Great list, though I liked sympathy for lady vengeance more, watched the 2012 remake of harakiri, also a great movie
What about one of the most controversial revenge movies ever, the original "I spit on your grave"?
Controversial sounds like an interesting idea! Cheers!
Well that’s more in the „raped and revenge“ genre

I like the old Richard Chamberlain Monte Cristo version.
I was tempted to pick that version- but I like the cheese in the 2002 version lol!
Memento, Point Blank/Payback, Edge of Darkness, Unforgiven, True Grit, Josey Wales, Get Carter?
Yes they are revenge movies LOL! I like all of them- but as it's a plot point to a movie there are 100's of good films with this plot point. I was quite spoiled tbh... usually it's quite hard to pick a balanced selection.

The Outlaw Josey Wales = Gladiator. Get what I mean?
Rambo: Last Blood is as brutal revenge as it can get
Man On Fire is my favorit.
How was Old Boy not on this list!?
Payback
Spawn
Punisher
Death sentence and law abiding citizen.
Yep, two great movies!
Great list, loved seeing The Crow and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.
I recommend: I Saw The Devil, as its another amazing Korean thriller /revenge movie well worth checking out.
Hell yeah- I Saw the Devil is brilliant- I just love the idea of the revenge plot twist, I just wish there were more films as creative as that one.
Spoiler of the end of I Saw The Devil don't read if you didn't watch it!!!!

Are you in letterboxd?
What is letterboxd? Well it's why I set up the sub-reddit so I can do Q&A etc. Then again it's not like I've really advertised it properly!
Dead Man's Shoes
you forgot blue ruin
Henry Fonda's eyes,,,,,
Death Sentence 2007
K.Bacon good creation
Ah death sentence, haven't watched that in ages!

C'mon, how do you make a revenge movie series and NOT include "oldboy"
For that exact reason! I was expecting lots of oldboy comments, but poor Mr vengeance always gets put in the corner somewhere... so I thought meh, go for the weakest link in the trilogy.
@@Hyperdriveuk Fair point. Maybe do your usual "movies I won't be including" section to your next video just to point out the obvious choices 😁
Massacre at Central High!
You can't show me Leon the professional then not place it lol
Well it's more of a assassin movie rather than revenge. Hmm well ok it's 50:50
09:05 Baba Yaga
Hard Candy forever ruined Ellen Page for me
Where is pay back bro! You missed it not good!?
cough ...A Serbian Film
John Wick...smart??? gtfo its a one note parody
A death sentence ??
Replace John Wick with Kill Bill. John Wick is unimaginative waste of film tape.
The 2002 version of The count of Monte Christo was absolute garbage. I think there has yet to be a movie or a tv show adaptation that doesn't suck.
I don't think there has been a strong one yet... it would need to be a streaming service 5-10 part show. I love this one because it's so hollywood and cheesy.
Come on, you left outside
"The Limey" ....watch out, you are becoming too mainstream and less cinematic...look after your loyal viewers..
