AVGN experiments a lot with his videos like making a connected universe as weird as it is. While there is a lot of special effects through editing, more and more I see AVGN using practical effects and prop design.
CinemaSins was kind of fun when the videos were five minutes long and just about pointing out little goofs the filmmakers made but then they went up their own asses and decided they were actual film critics.

I don't know if any actual critics or even themselves, take what they do seriously. Commentors like to say that they bring down the art form that is criticism, but they don't really make legit movie criticism, nor do they go into things like cinematography or sound design to any serious degree. They're not really hurting critique as an art form, nor are they making genuine critique themselves. I'm surprised anyone even gets kinda irate about their being a thing when they're not really even critics; they're comedians (and obviously their joking mileage varies based on subjective tastes). People seem to take their channel too seriously.
Does CinemaSins think they're actual critics? I wouldn't be surprised. Their videos are _total fucking garbage,_ but I enjoy them from time to time. The words "guilty pleasure" come to mind.

If Quinton kept political views and hot takes in their own videos instead of sprinkling them into videos that are entirely unrelated, then people would have a choice of whether or not they would want to see them. Throwing them into videos like this only serve to derail the comments made and detract from the video as a whole.
There's a reason the FDA regulates ingredients in food, advertisers are regulated in what they sell. You are required to let your audience know that the subject of your video is paid/sponsored content. It is absolutely disengenous to say that we want his opinion but not his opinion. I don't go to the store, buy a cucumber and enjoy the fact that it is slightly pickled. By the same token here I'm generally sold a general scope opinion. UA-cam ALSO has categories and tags for videos which mislabeling can get a video removed or a strike. So yeah I come here for an opinion on the subject of the video, not "hot takes" about the current state of the Trump Admin (pertinent to the content of the video so I'll let it pass) or shitting on John Tron. I might enjoy the hell out of soup, but a single hair ruins a dish.

Kristopher Estrada And I guess my dad and I will have to be 2nd or 3rd place. That's fine, James does a better job anyways. But, when I was a kid, I loved watching my dad play games, and when something bad would happen in-game to him, I had fun watching him freak out, because it was hilarious. Sometimes scary, but a lot of the time, funny. Now that I'm an adult, I still have that gaming rage myself. It's not mainly for comedic purposes, like how Angry Joe would do it, but serious rage. Not sure if it would be as funny to watch as James, but if I ever did make that kind of series, I'd be sure to cite the avgn as an inspiration, because he IS an inspirational guy. He's creative, and has a creative way of bending curse words, in ways I've NEVER heard before, not even from my dad. Plus, with jared having been outed as a scumbag, it's nice to see that in a way, we can still enjoy reviews of some of the awful games that Despicable Jared reviewed, like MK Mythologies, and the Hydlide games. I think I get why James Rolfe managed to stick around for so long. Not only does he avoid drama and is generally called nice by those that met him, he has a passion for filmmaking and the games he played, often doing skits that contained clever and hidden jokes that you can point out if you do your homework. He didn't just make videos shitting on bad games, but he managed to keep the videos entertaining without overstating their welcome. Also, I couldn't help but notice that James does have general talent in making not just AVGN, but in other projects he worked on in his youth, like The Head Incident. You just get the feeling that he could have left youtube whenever he wanted, but he stayed anyway. The ripoffs that came from his early work copied what he made, but they kept missing why he made it.
How ever his friend Mike isn't but he got kicked out or left don't know but he's controversial when James was busy making the avgn movie Mike shared a d pick in the official subreddit and also made lame content also kicking out bootsy

The problem with "IT'S SARCSTIC/JOKES" is that they mix valid criticism with the joke sins. Which kind of muddies the water and sends mixed signals - is this supposed to be a joke, in which case the serious complaints are misleading, or are they just shitting at everything legit or not, in which case they are incorrectly pointing out actual flaws?

Whenever the topic of Quinton's UA-cam drama videos come up I have this weird introspective moment where I remember that I originally followed him for his video review content, and all that other stuff just came attached with it. And that I am in fact in the minority in that regard.
I like to think you are wrong when you say you are a minority because it would suck quite alot of comments that small or single tweets online, are enough for people to just start wars or arguments when they are so meaningless to the content of the video.

Thanks for praising CinemaWins, Quinton! Been watching that channel for a while now, because it is.. as you say.. wholesome and cute and just .. nice. Being happy about normal decent films instead of ripping them a new one sarcastically is just more my style. To plug another channel, if you care for it, maybe check out GoodBadFlicks! The channel mainly focuses on older 70s-90s schlocky B-movies and even more obscure and he mainly does two series. He does an "Explore" series which is more akin to CinemaWins in that he goes into detail about some cult movie's creation (e.g. the episode on Blair Witch: The Book of Shadows is probably the best one, because he actually explains how cool that movie COULD have been, if the studio would've let the makers alone) and then he does regular showcases of older, obscure films where he basically gives away the entire plot over very charming, highly referential commentary. No riffing, no sinning, just occasionally making fun of some silly things in that film, or likening certain aspects to other films, series, etc. That channel has existed for something like seven years now and he's doing quite well with regular content. Perfect ten minute "80s cult film" bites every now and then and the Explore series, which doesn't spoil the films, has been so good sometimes that I went ahead, watched the entire film and then rewatched the Explore series just for even better insight. However, you need to have some passing interest in the 70's, 80's, 90's and horror, action and sci-fi films I think. Otherwise it'll probably bore you. It's also not overly flashy or ostentatious. Just a dude with a neat voice talking. Great channel that GoodBadFlicks one!
Agreed, I actually never even knew Irate gamer even existed. And I've been following James from seven years now. I can't recall him talking about him in the videos or anything. Must not have been that important to him. lol Oh well I'll still continue to love Cinemassacre as long as they make videos.
I found out about Irate Gamer first. Then a friend told me that he was a lot like Avgn, but I didn't search him up at first. After a while, I decided to look him up, and, holy shit, he was funny as fuck. Although, I think he's better than Irate Gamer, I still like him and re-watch his videos every now and again.
Too many people think that its real criticism. So many people don't get that its a joke and just rant about how dumb they are because they don't understand the fine art that is their favorite movie. I like CinemaSins a lot. But I only watch their videos in small batches, as to not overdo it.

That transformer in the background is Skyfire, if I’m not mistaken. Skyfire was originally going to be called Jetfire but had to be changed to to copyright disputes over his model being imported from another series, hence his limited role in the tv series. In other words... he is a knockoff.
He was Jetfire as a toy but had his designs and name changed for TV. Why his name changed isn't clear, but my theory is that it made it Match with Starscreams name

AVGN has apparently gone back to his roots with the calmed down demeanor. I've actually only started watching his stuff this year and it's more along the lines of the earliest stuff you showed here. At least, that's my perspective as a new fan
They used to be somewhat entertaining if you didn't take the actual criticisms seriously and more comedically, but now it just feels like they genuinely mean to criticize these movies with nothing but nitpicks. As someone who doesn't really agree with the anti-Jon sentiment... It's really childish to downvote the video over an ignorable, throwaway line. The video is really high quality, and it's sad that people can't get past their opinions to see that. To be quite blunt, Quinton doesn't need fans who act this way. The way they so rabidly defend Jon leads me to suspect that they are the same people who think he didn't do anything wrong in the first place (which not even Jon himself would agree with.)

I've always admired the way James handled the Irate Gamer. As wild as the audience's reaction was to James saying he refused to comment on him, that really was the best move. I've watched AVGN since the beginning of his wider popularity and remember the Irate Gamer when he was still new. James Rolfe really is a class act, and I think that's a big part of why he's still relevant today.

Aaaaactually, SinsSins (Or Jay Exci as his channel is now known) isnt just doing the Sins for CinemaSins for the sake of ripping off the formula. He uses his videos to critically analyze the content of CinemaSins videos. Hes moved away from that type of thing now, though his channel does still mainly focus on a sort of critique of critics, he's just branched out much more. Jay is honestly a pretty smart and interesting guy, his videos are really good for pointing out stupid nitpicks disguised as criticism. Summing up his entire channel with that one joke is pretty unfair, and i know its an old video but the point still remains. Im not saying hes amazing, but he does have some entertaining videos that are pretty good both from a humor perspective (if you like dry british humor) and a critical perspective.
I love how frequently I'm finding defenses of Jontron that boil down to "I don't think he's racist, so stop making jokes about it." For example, would you consider it racist to exlude white people from living in Native American reservations? Would you be against large numbers of white people moving to Pakistan and thus interbreeding with the Pakastani population? Even if said populations were culturally assimilated, (which wouldn't happen) the differences in IQ between diferent races would mean that these populations would be irreparably changed. And in the case of so called "brown people" breeding with European populations, this change would be to the detriment of Europeans. Personally, I enjoy the world being full of unique cultures and people. I don't think wanting to preserve that is a bad thing.
Cinema Sins annoyed the shit out of me. They would just list a neutral thing and count it as a "sin." Not even as a one-off joke. They kept doing it. I blocked that entire channel because every time I'd see a recommendation from them from UA-cam, I'd just get really annoyed.
What find cool about the AVGN and cinemassacre in general is how you can see an evolution from the earliest stuff to the newest and how much they love movies and film making. While the first episodes were filmed in a raw crude way the newest are filmed like a short film and while more scripted than before is still funny and also has much more entertaining value because of the adventures the Nerd gets into. I recommend of the latest AVGN the Resident Evil survivor episode and the Polybius episode, they are top notch.
I feel like people are overreacting to the JonTron joke in this. It’s literally a quick line that goes by in two seconds. I like Jon, I’m a fan of his content, he’s a funny guy. But he said some horribly ignorant things and I think people can make fun of him all they want. Free speech doesn’t only apply to people I like. It’s a joke, who cares?

You forgot to add Pat the NES Punk. He started off doing almost the same thing as AVGN during his early days and simply concentrated on Nintendo stuff for the NES. Later on, he tried to do his own thing later on. I wouldn't have heard of him either until AVGN actually had him on as a guest. His stuff weren't written well and he even tried spicing it up with an adult performer in one ep. I stopped subbing to him years ago and wasn't aware he was still "creating" stuff. Nowadays, he does v-podcasts - one of which got him into hot water with his audience.

I loved avgn growing up. Eventually I got tired of just swear words, and I got attached to another person that I found through avgn, the nostalgia critic. Nostalgia critic stopped being fun reviews, and became more about skits and I stopped liking him as well. Cinema sins was another UA-cam I really liked, and the movies I didn't see on the channel were videos I liked more then the videos about movies I have seen (sorry if that doesn't make sense). Which is probably why I stopped liking them as well. I don't have a point to this comment.

But, when I was a kid, I loved watching my dad play games, and when something bad would happen in-game to him, I had fun watching him freak out, because it was hilarious. Sometimes scary, but a lot of the time, funny. Now that I'm an adult, I still have that gaming rage myself. It's not mainly for comedic purposes, like how Angry Joe would do it, but serious rage. Not sure if it would be as funny to watch as James, but if I ever did make that kind of series, I'd be sure to cite the avgn as an inspiration, because he IS an inspirational guy. He's creative, and has a creative way of bending curse words, in ways I've NEVER heard before, not even from my dad. Plus, with jared having been outed as a scumbag, it's nice to see that in a way, we can still enjoy reviews of some of the awful games that Despicable Jared reviewed, like MK Mythologies, and the Hydlide games. I think I get why James Rolfe managed to stick around for so long. Not only does he avoid drama and is generally called nice by those that met him, he has a passion for filmmaking and the games he played, often doing skits that contained clever and hidden jokes that you can point out if you do your homework. He didn't just make videos shitting on bad games, but he managed to keep the videos entertaining without overstating their welcome. Also, I couldn't help but notice that James does have general talent in making not just AVGN, but in other projects he worked on in his youth, like The Head Incident. You just get the feeling that he could have left youtube whenever he wanted, but he stayed anyway.
The ripoffs that came from his early work copied what he made, but they kept missing why he made it.
How ever his friend Mike isn't but he got kicked out or left don't know but he's controversial when James was busy making the avgn movie Mike shared a d pick in the official subreddit and also made lame content also kicking out bootsy

The problem with "IT'S SARCSTIC/JOKES" is that they mix valid criticism with the joke sins. James Rolfe is an Innovator. He does a lot of Stuff simultaneosly. The Movie Reviews, Board Games and Conferences. Plus he is very good at what he does. I am from Peru and while I study English I put a lot of Effort in understanding his Episodes. I think he will be around many years more. That because of his TALENT
Cinema Wins deserves so much praise. In our current environment of cinism and criticism and "this thing you love it's actually bad", the guy shines like a solitary star full of good feelings and vibes.
Whenever the topic of Quinton's UA-cam drama videos come up I have this weird introspective moment where I remember that I originally followed him for his video review content, and all that other stuff just came attached with it. And that I am in fact in the minority in that regard.
I like to think you are wrong when you say you are a minority because it would suck quite alot of comments that small or single tweets online, are enough for people to just start wars or arguments when they are so meaningless to the content of the video.

Thanks for praising CinemaWins, Quinton! Been watching that channel for a while now, because it is.. as you say.. wholesome and cute and just .. nice. Being happy about normal decent films instead of ripping them a new one sarcastically is just more my style. To plug another channel, if you care for it, maybe check out GoodBadFlicks!
The channel mainly focuses on older 70s-90s schlocky B-movies and even more obscure and he mainly does two series. He does an "Explore" series which is more akin to CinemaWins in that he goes into detail about some cult movie's creation (e.g. the episode on Blair Witch: The Book of Shadows is probably the best one, because he actually explains how cool that movie COULD have been, if the studio would've let the makers alone) and then he does regular showcases of older, obscure films where he basically gives away the entire plot over very charming, highly referential commentary. No riffing, no sinning, just occasionally making fun of some silly things in that film, or likening certain aspects to other films, series, etc.
That channel has existed for something like seven years now and he's doing quite well with regular content. Perfect ten minute "80s cult film" bites every now and then and the Explore series, which doesn't spoil the films, has been so good sometimes that I went ahead, watched the entire film and then rewatched the Explore series just for even better insight. However, you need to have some passing interest in the 70's, 80's, 90's and horror, action and sci-fi films I think. Otherwise it'll probably bore you. It's also not overly flashy or ostentatious. Just a dude with a neat voice talking. Great channel that GoodBadFlicks one!

AVGN has apparently gone back to his roots with the calmed down demeanor. I've actually only started watching his stuff this year and it's more along the lines of the earliest stuff you showed here. At least, that's my perspective as a new fan

As someone who doesn't really agree with the anti-Jon sentiment...
It's really childish to downvote the video over an ignorable, throwaway line. The video is really high quality, and it's sad that people can't get past their opinions to see that. To be quite blunt, Quinton doesn't need fans who act this way.
The way they so rabidly defend Jon leads me to suspect that they are the same people who think he didn't do anything wrong in the first place (which not even Jon himself would agree with.)

I honestly barely noticed the remark about Jon, but I didn't think anything of it either, even as a fan of his. It's kind of stupid people would dislike the entire video over that.

Yeah, and it wasn't trying to seriously imitate the style of AVGN videos; they were actually mocking AVGN ripoffs and how they miss the mark, ironically in exactly the same way as the segment of this video where their clip is featured. So, yeah, they're technically an excellent example of what Quinton is talking about...because they're also calling out the exact same thing through intentional parody.
I'm a little surprised that comments mentioning this aren't right at the top of the comment section. I figured a whole bunch of people would have mentioned it already, but I haven't seen any.
Thanks for bringing up Cinema Wins. Don’t get me wrong I love critics and negative funnies, like YourMovieSucks and I Hate Everything, but seeing material get some credit or pointing out the good in things is nice too. So I’ll definitely give that channel a peek.

I've always admired the way James handled the Irate Gamer. As wild as the audience's reaction was to James saying he refused to comment on him, that really was the best move. I've watched AVGN since the beginning of his wider popularity and remember the Irate Gamer when he was still new. James Rolfe really is a class act, and I think that's a big part of why he's still relevant today.
The Irate Gamer was like the dollar store version of the AVGN.

His Immortal video was insanely good and done in one take! The work he puts in deserves his views 💪
Aaaaactually, SinsSins (Or Jay Exci as his channel is now known) isnt just doing the Sins for CinemaSins for the sake of ripping off the formula. He uses his videos to critically analyze the content of CinemaSins videos. Hes moved away from that type of thing now, though his channel does still mainly focus on a sort of critique of critics, he's just branched out much more. Jay is honestly a pretty smart and interesting guy, his videos are really good for pointing out stupid nitpicks disguised as criticism. Summing up his entire channel with that one joke is pretty unfair, and i know its an old video but the point still remains. Im not saying hes amazing, but he does have some entertaining videos that are pretty good both from a humor perspective (if you like dry british humor) and a critical perspective.
I love how frequently I'm finding defenses of Jontron that boil down to "I don't think he's racist, so stop making jokes about it."

@@vornamenachname269 I do not beleive that wanting to keep a population largely homogenious is racist as long as the same standard is applied to other populations. For example, would you consider it racist to exlude white people from living in Native American reservations? Would you be against large numbers of white people moving to Pakistan and thus interbreeding with the Pakastani population? Even if said populations were culturally assimilated, (which wouldn't happen) the differences in IQ between diferent races would mean that these populations would be irreparably changed. And in the case of so called "brown people" breeding with European populations, this change would be to the detriment of Europeans.
Personally, I enjoy the world being full of unique cultures and people. I don't think wanting to preserve that is a bad thing.

Cinema Sins annoyed the shit out of me. They would just list a neutral thing and count it as a "sin." Not even as a one-off joke. They kept doing it. I blocked that entire channel because every time I'd see a recommendation from them from UA-cam, I'd just get really annoyed.
What find cool about the AVGN and cinemassacre in general is how you can see an evolution from the earliest stuff to the newest and how much they love movies and film making.
While the first episodes were filmed in a raw crude way the newest are filmed like a short film and while more scripted than before is still funny and also has much more entertaining value because of the adventures the Nerd gets into.
I recommend of the latest AVGN the Resident Evil survivor episode and the Polybius episode, they are top notch.

You forgot to add Pat the NES Punk. He started off doing almost the same thing as AVGN during his early days and simply concentrated on Nintendo stuff for the NES. Later on, he tried to do his own thing later on. I wouldn't have heard of him either until AVGN actually had him on as a guest. His stuff weren't written well and he even tried spicing it up with an adult performer in one ep. I stopped subbing to him years ago and wasn't aware he was still "creating" stuff. Nowadays, he does v-podcasts - one of which got him into hot water with his audience.
Do you consider your early work a knockoff? You've mentioned before being inspired by the channel awesome style critique videos.
Not to say that present day Quinton Reviews is a knockoff. Far from it.

I loved avgn growing up. Eventually I got tired of just swear words, and I got attached to another person that I found through avgn, the nostalgia critic. Nostalgia critic stopped being fun reviews, and became more about skits and I stopped liking him as well.
Cinema sins was another UA-cam I really liked, and the movies I didn't see on the channel were videos I liked more then the videos about movies I have seen (sorry if that doesn't make sense). Which is probably why I stopped liking them as well.
