How To Stop Lower Back Pain When Bending Over
• How To Stop Lower Back...
Finally, a video that clearly explains why I feel pain while maintaining a forward bend. I have been practicing and it helps tremendously! However, I still have issues maintaining my posture when I must bend further down. For example, while changing a bed ridden patient, I must pull the patient towards me which often requires a forward bend at almost a 90 degree or more depending on how high I can raise the bed but also requires me to hyperextend my back to be able to reach over the patient causing my heels to lift up and I end up on my toes all while trying to maintain upper body strength and no matter how hard I try to maintain my posture I end up curving my back because it’s the only way I can get enough strength and stability to hold the patient in a lateral position with one hand while using the other hand to place items underneath the patient. Or, another example, is when I am performing tracheostomy care and I have to maintain 45 degree tilt or more while hyperextending my back and twisting slightly to one side to be able to reach the patients neck area across the bed. I find that also very painful to hold that position. I will keep trying to bend from the hips but I tend to default to curving my back in these types of situations even though it hurts because I feel like I have more control and upper body strength. It sometimes feels like my legs are longer than my upper body I just can’t find the right position to maintain proper posture. I just can’t find a way to do it that doesn’t kill my back. I hope I made some sense. It’s the best way I can describe it. Do I need to strengthen certain upper body muscles to help with this? Do I need to stretch? What advice would you give in these situations? It would be great if you did a video on this. Thank you
I'm only 14 and I'm looking up how to help back pain .-. I'ma die Young
Same bro I'm just 21 yrs old🙂🙁
Good video Sam. I already do this and it has helped. Hopefully you'll touch a viewer and it'll help them as well. Keep up the good work.
That was right on. You made it seem easy. Finding and understanding your info takes practice.
Anyone under 15 and have this
Im 16 lol
+andrew gomez bro im 16 aswell when u bend over my lower left back side hurts heaps so i went to a physio and he told me that its an inflamed joint causing the muscle to get tight so he gave me exercises and still hasnt gone away idk what to do so im gona go back in 2 days
yea idky it hurts
Sadly me! Im 13!! My mom says its maybe cuz I have 2 pillows when I sleep. Its the lower middle of my back. I felt 4 lines right where it is and I was hoping my spine wasnt sticking out (nout out of the skin of course, I meant being able to feel it)
im 18 but have had it since i was around 16
Thank you!
Completely change the way I think of how my back is hurting and why. And it's usually for tasks like cooking or doing dishes! I also drive a lot from my job.
Glad it was helpful!
I always use a broom handle at work. I get strange looks but that's their problem.
Hello Sam. Your video has been useful.I am glad that I don't have to lean anymore to use the vacuum cleaner because I have a robot vacuum cleaner named Rumba. :).I will share your video to my family and friends. Some of them have problems maintaining a good posture of the spine and suffer from back pain. I suffered from kiphosis, but did pshysiotherapy and got rid of it. I have been careful regarding my spine since I had that problem. I will keep in mind the posture for brushing the teeth by bending the knees! :)Thank you for sharing it!
I recognise that posture from my having to assume it during ''housework" in my house, etc.
I am reminded of the ''weak'' knees, that mean I cannot hold that position for too long; normally anything where I have to bend to that level I get a portable short stool (40cm high) and place it next to where I must ''bend", eg. very low shelves in the closet.
.
When I clean the bath tub, I have to lean into it and do so with my knees bent and pressed into the outside edge of the bath tub; not good posture.
I can only do that for a brief cleaning session, so I use a powerful cleaner, AJAX. !
.
Nice presentation.
Your microphone is in a good position.
Many such videos, use their built-in laptop microphone, which gives much room-echo; glad that I can hear you clearly.
.
I was about to give up with the body but I realise I must continue trying to be a flexible person.
Well explained
GREAT VIDEO, GREAT INFORMATION!!! Thank you.
I am always in doubt 4:05 about my back position. Ridged knees may be the bandit when I am at the kitchen sink, since you mention possible habits. Two thumbs up!
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing
Hi Sam, Thanks for sending the link to your video. I enjoyed watching it. Your explanations are clear and helpful. As a Feldenkrais practitioner I work with many people who have difficulties with forward bending and I'm always looking for useful tools for learning--I'm going to try using the stick with some of my clients as it looks like it gives great biofeedback.
Note, Sandra: the stick is a patented technique and royaties will be payable !
You've got to be joking! I guess I won't be using your strategies with my clients although I'm not really sure how you can patent a stick and/or regulate it's use.
Elliot Hulse uses this when he teaches how to dead lift to his power lifters
Leadfarmer153 that’s how I hurt my back. Did something wrong on a dead lift. It’s been 2 months of back pain. Then I shoveled snow yesterday :( mistake.
Great post as I recently experienced this. Will try that technique out thanks Sam!
Thanx mate
Many thanks for your great advice
Nicely explained and useful. Thank you

Thank you Sam for sharing with me. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration to men and many others. May God bless you with good health, prosperity in your work to be a blessing to someone, incoming wealth and healing to you. In Jesus name. Amen.
Thank you very much sir...i was cleaning our bathroom floor and felt the pain
When i close my eyes...it seems like patrick bateman is talking to me.
I got this weird pain over night out of nowhere, I haven't even done anything
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome info my friend! I'm going to share! Thank u!
For the same exercise, Can I replace the pole with resistance band ?
When my back hurts I just use the edge corner things of the walls😂
Thank you for this tip. I have an acute pain in my right hip joint. I was told by a chiropractor that my right leg is shorter than my left. Do you treat that type if condition or whom I should seek for further check. Than you
The only way to truly determine leg length is via a very particular kind of x-ray. You should know that most of the time, this "apparent" leg length measurement by itself is not important, but may be valuable in the overall big picture.
so what means if I feel pain when I extend (arch) back and bent forward? facets or something? Can that be fixed, do I need to fix APT and pain will be gone? THANKS
“Hey, Bob, why do you always have a stick up your ass?” “Because I don’t want to hurt my back!!”
(Great video, actually)
Awesome video 😁 can we do things like go on roller coasters with this kind of back problems cause I did and I don't know but I think it got worse
I have allot of stiffness in the morning and throughout the day when I bend backwards..any tips..no problem bending forward.
The stretching sensation is behind the knees. Actually feels as if it's perhaps more upper calf than hamstring.
This is a common perception although its not always clear what is being stretched. Nerve tension can also be perceived as a "stretch" in the muscles.
Instructions unclear.... My wife is PISSED!!
Hope you don’t mind I’m actually fixing to use a bamboo stick for this
Sam, when doing this, I feel a huge stretch on the hamstrings, even when bending forward only slightly. Would hamstring stretches improve the depth to which I can bend?
Doing this IS stretching the hamstrings. Thats part of the magic. :)
How to treat this symptoms ?
anyone 11 and googling how to stop back pain?
*:')*
This Is why people should do "good mornings"
While i understand the right way to bend is from the hips but then doesn't it cause stress to the knees?
Definitely not. If squatting was "bad for the knees" as some people claim, how would you get on and off the toilet or in/out of a car? Completely normal movement.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Looking forward to your future videos.please do educate us on keeping the knees less stressed.
Does Sam had an hunchback? it looks like he does
lol 18 and not sure what’s happening to my back,,,,,, mass youtube back help time
Why my back is paing I'm 19 and not even been from any kind injury accident
So basically what I'd consider "normal" bending is actually bad form? That's what I'm getting from this.... Am I right?
there,s not much i can do at this short notice im afraid! unless i go on the sick again with a twisted spine! 🍫🍫🍫
This guy reminds me of weird al if weird al cut his hair
🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀
So let me get this straight... You want me to stick a pole up my ass while bending over in order to relieve this lower back pain???? I'm good on that. I'll just use a wall or something. I'm about to go look up some yoga techniques or something.
I believe the pole should have a U section on the bottom you can stick it in your ass with better confidence and experience
im looking for my dad im 10
no one cares
I wish my stick was that big. 😟
you mean your *ick?
Blah blah…..just hinge at the hip and you’ll be fine.
Gee thanks for the valuable input. If this information isn’t a good fit for you, feel free to just move on. I’m sure you’ll find what you need elsewhere.
