I’m tearing up watching the first section of this video, at the age of 21 I have had chronic back pain for over a year now, been to 4 doctors over 10+ appointments, had X-rays, ultrasounds, looked into ibs, diet, Endometriosis etc. all who have told me in the end “we don’t know why you have pain”. Now saving up money for an osteopath at the moment, but yoga has been the only thing that has helped (I’ve been doing for 3 months now). Thank you for talking about this!
I'm on my 30's going through a similar experience, trying to find the cause of severe back pain on my periods and doctors just say "it's normal to feel pain" 😓 Now, a good osteopath, one that you trust, can help a lot 🤞🏻
Have you read or listened to this? www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-audiobook/dp/B00005NRA7/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=35VGW4KVF0OFV&keywords=sarno+back+pain+book&qid=1706874330&sprefix=sarno+ba%2Caps%2C226&sr=8-1
I’ve actually been reading a different but similar book “the way out” by Alan Gordon, which is, as far as I could tell from reviews, a newer, more scientifically backed approach to the exact same idea. His patients have all been cured or healed dramatically as a result of somatic tracking, essentially a medical word for being mindful of your pain. It’s worked miracles already for me! I only found it because of this other book you mentioned, so thank you!
Need an mri to find out if you have a herniated disk. Mine is pushing on the nerve and cause my pain. This is my second time going thru this. In most cases it can be treated without surgery. Need to strengthen your back and core. Swimming helped me out alot.
I'm 25 and I have terrible upper and lower back pain for 1 week now and I've been overthinking a lot lately because of this pain and it's been affecting my life already and I could barely stand or sit for like minutes 😢. I also feel so old because of this pain . But I found this video and and I watched your healing Journey . I'm already tearing up because I'm losing hope that I'm not gonna be okay 😭. And I started doing this yoga and I feel Better than over the past few days 😭. Thank you so much Tim 😭😭. From today I'll do this yoga Regularly 🥺 . I hope everyone reading this comment will feel better soon 🥺❤
Warm hugs im glad Yoga is helping you I've also been told "dont know why i have the pain" from doctors Ive noticed with mine if i dont rest it flares up
Two years ago i had sciatica, it hurt so much i could barely sit nor stand for 5 min. It affected everything in my life, from sleeping to stepping off the curb to walking….I had gone through all the treatments but not until i found Osteopath and that combine with acupuncture saved me. Tim was right, treatments are nothing unless you walk regularly. I was advised to walk 30 min everyday, but mindfully about how your body is moving, core and pelvis. Then walked 1 hour everyday. Almost a year later, I don’t even notice it anymore! I’m still trying to do the walks, but no need for any treatments now. Daily yoga also helps (body and soul). Thank you Tim for sharing your story.
Respectfully, your journey stated in largely anecdotal. Simple walking will neither fix nor significantly affect positively most people with chronic low back pain. I know from experience.
@@hammill444 I think the point was it’s part of a holistic approach, and walking is one of the great methods of moving overlooked for fancy gym or fitness routines, but your right walking alone like won’t fix someone’s chronic pain
@@hammill444well the worst thing you can do for a back injury is to not doing anything. You must keep moving. It truly does help. Think of older people who don’t do anything they start to lock up and breakdown faster. It’s not cause of their age it’s because they aren’t moving. To “stay young” you must keep moving. Hell that’s the reason most people are overweight or find it hard to loose weight. And the reason for that is as we get older we stop moving as much. Most people don’t take more than 8-10 thousand steps a day. The key to losing weight tbh is exertion. We weight more because we move less. To weight less, you must move more.
I have low back herniated disc and I started to follow you and, in 2020, I started to practice yoga following you videos. Since then I sincerely my pains almost are gone and I want to thank you for all the videos that you are doing and for the help that you gave me. I recomend always your channel to whoever wants to feel better. Thank you!
Thank you all for sharing how these exercises have helped heal your lower back pain. I have started to get sciatic pain and lower back pain after I got my 1st covid vaccination. Back then I was doing nearly everyday hiking, walking up the mountain and doing hospitality work that required a few hours of standing and bending. I'm starting to think this is where I've caused stress and lower back pain and plus with the amount of stress I was experiencing at work. Last year I got and MRI lower back scanned and doctors told me I have hernia disc bulging, My doctor recommended two things I can do to help my lower back pain situation. 1. Is to have a surgery and I was recommended to see a specialist to see if I need a surgery. 2. See a physio to help me manage this pain with regular exercises. The past few years I have not been able to do physical activities that requires long periods of time standing and do cooking or cleaning around my house that requires quite a bit of bending., cause they totally devastate my back and legs to a point that I have to rest for a few days of doing any housework or movement, walking etc. for my back to heal up again. It's a horrible pain which I've mentioned to a work colleague of mine and he told me he used to have this problem too and told me about certain stretches and exercises that we can do and help heal and put the hernia disc back where it should be and decrease the pain. If it wasn't because of you folks I would have got a lower back surgery to try remove the issue, not targeting with the issue heads on which later on might end up causing more injury on my back and with movement overtime. I've heard stories about people that have had surgery for this lower back issue and years down the track it have continued to cause other neck spine back pain issues I don't want to have a lower back surgery ever, I think it's quite risky and can cause more issues than doing any one any good once these parts of our body is ever opened and allow parts of our internal bones or organs being touched through harsh surgeries.
I almost started crying listening to you, I also skated, surfed, snowboarded and played basketball a lot. I am now 25 and feel like my back has aged so much faster than the rest of my body. I can‘t sit still for longer than an hour before my back gets too painful. I felt so heard, thank you.
I’ve been dealing with lower back pain and leg pain all the way down to my foot since I threw out my back last summer. What really spoke to me in this video was the comments about how repressed emotions can lead to lower back pain and tension. When I threw out my back, I was dealing with really difficult financial stress and work stress. Watching this felt really validating and honestly like you were reading my mind. Excited to go on a journey of healing.
Thank you Tim I am 67 years old and have a herniated disc injury from my 20s when I was a female bodybuilder LOL in a different life and then I switched to yoga have done yoga for years and years and years but my disk flares up randomly here and there and I just had a bad one was looking through UA-cam and found you thank you so much I'm going back to the beginning with you it seems to be a proper direction thanks again
Love the focus on accessible yoga for all - thanks for sharing your story and this gentle practice. Love figure four with the foot flat on the wall- so relaxing. Thanks, Tim!
Thank you for sharing. I’ll definitely try these exercises. I’m 40 and have been dealing with lower back pain since I was 26 from moving heavy patients at work. It’s been quite a mental, emotional, and physical journey. I'm glad you're feeling better and sharing your teaching with others. ❤️🙏🏻
Always had issues with L-5 left side. I followed the routine here- when I got to the windshield wiper part, both legs and then crossed single wiper, I felt and heard a pop in my lower back-L5 and now it feels so much stronger and no longer nagging me every other day- thanks
In my years of exercise and working through various problems (knee, shin issues with running, elbow and finger issues with climbing, back issues) my main take away has been to keep trying new things. Keep trying to find solutions. Does stretching not work? Try strengthening exercise. Does rest not work? Go to a fysio. Basically don't give up and always look for new ways to fix the problem. Everybody is different and eventually you will find what works for you.
I've been struggling with the pain and anxiety related to lower back arthritis and disc herneation for the better part of a year now. I work as a first responder and have dealt with the fear of what may happen if I hurt my back again on a call. After deciding that a change was needed, I began working on regularly doing yoga, strengthening more core, and doing increased cardio to improve my overall fitness. This video has been one of the ones I repeatedly come back to as being especially helpful with reducing lower back pain and has genuinely made a huge impact on my physical and mental health. Thank you so much for making this available to myself and others!
Hi Tim, thank you very much for the video, I found it very interesting and helpful. I am 62 years old, a lifelong surfer who is just getting back into the water over the last few months. I’ve had a back issue for 20 years with scans showing disc bulge, herniation and arthritis similar to your story. I have completed the initial yoga class tonight and found it interesting and helpful. I completed the postures with reasonable ease and without antagonising my back pain. I have been completing stretches and corrective exercises daily over a long period(perhaps some are the wrong exercises,) and am quite flexible, however I do have ongoing back pain and sometimes mild sciatica. My lower back pain has been reasonably strong for the last few weeks and I’m not getting on top of it with my usual exercises etc . Your story touch the cord with me as appeared somewhat similar to my own . I have subscribed to your channel and would like to learn more, get on top of my pain and start your routines/program. I would like your opinion, as mentioned I have been doing corrective exercise and stretching over a fairly long period and I’m quite flexible would it be more beneficial for me to start with a slightly more advanced routine to begin with or stay with this routine. I look forward to hearing from you, Thanks again, kind regards, Dave, Gold Coast, Australia
Thanks for sharing your story. I put together a healing back pain course on my membership site, you can join and I can coach you through if you have questions during it. Here’s the link: www.timsenesiyoga.com/consciousmovement
@@yogawithtim Hi Tim, Thank you for reply. I will take your advice & join up as a member and start the back pain program you mentioned. Hoping to get out of pain and gain strength & confidence to get back into quality surfing & life. Thank you, Dave
Dude, I was utterly humiliated when I couldn't get the pain in my left hamstring and butt cheek to go away. It hurt so much to sit for very long. I think I injured myself doing yard cleanup this Fall. I consider myself a pretty serious yoga practitioner, but the pain and instability continued after months. I thought, "It's my body. I know best." When it continued, I sought help from an excellent PT who guessed it was a low back injury. Oila! It pissed me right off that I couldn't heal myself. I have always enjoyed your sense of humor and humility--you don't take things too seriously. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Tim! Practicing yoga with you for 9 years has really helped my lower back. You taught me how to stretch my lumbar and also to mobilize my thoracic spine. Spinal twists are a big help too. I am 71 but my back feels younger than that once I get up and do a few yoga stretches in the morning. You are the best. Namaste.
Tim! Thank you so much for offering and sharing your beautiful gifts with the world. This was the first video of you I came across back in July when I was searching yoga for herniated disks, my first thought was "where have you been all my life?!!!" 🤣I have been suffering from low back pain for a couple of years after I was diagnosed with three bulged disks and one herniated disks in my lumbar spine 😔, this was the result of years of me abusing my body with martial arts as well as an aggressive yoga practice that was not honoring myself. I am about to complete my first 30 day challenge with you and I want to join your conscious movement community and hopefully attend a retreat with you someday! I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart because I don't feel as helpless and hopeless as I did before, and I have been able to practice with you with so much gentleness, your concept of "do what you should and not what you can" changed my life in more than one way 😊🤗 Gracias!!!!!!🥰
Thanks Diana. Very much appreciated and so good to hear all this! Please stay with it. Looking forward to seeing you on the CMC and at one of the retreats 😉
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Tim! I’ve always enjoyed practicing with you, but only recently returned to your classes after a hiatus of a few years. I noticed that there was something different about the way you were teaching. And you seemed different too, somehow . And now I understand why. The wisdom gained from your back injury allows you to share your teaching at a much deeper level, and I want you to know how much I’ve been enjoying what I’ve been learning from you. Thank you, Tim!
I’ve always had back pain. But with a healthy lifestyle and sport, I've learned to live with it. 3 years ago I had a very bad fall on the stairs at my workplace. Verdict: 2 fractured lumbar vertebrae, pelvic bone cracked. And I consider myself lucky because it could have been much more serious. Today I am quite well. I have practiced yoga and pilates regularly since... always. In my job as a teacher, good posture is an important tool. I have sequelae (compression of the lumbar discs) but I refuse to let them define my future activities. I completely agree with you that our emotions too often not expressed and buried, cause tension in our body (and mind). And as we are not used to listening to our body, these tensions only accumulate without being able to go out. A nice recipe for a pressure cooker! In our completely crazy lifestyle, we have the impression of being able to control everything and impose on our body our excessive ego. Being able to connect our body, mind and soul (and flaws) is an everyday job. And even when we know this, we tend to forget about it and... lose the connection... till we have to learn all over again to take care of our body, mind and soul! Thank you, Tim, for you videos and for sharing your experience. They help to ground me a lot. And boy, do I need a reminder now and then!...
Great gentle stretches that felt so good for my scoliosis. I usually wake up very stiff and shaking out coupled with your mobility & your yoga first thing in the morning & bedtime brings great relief. Thank you for this! And ALL of your videos.
I'm thrilled to have found you today! I've been dealing with a nagging pull in my lower back, but your yoga instruction has been incredibly helpful. Thank you for sharing your gift.
Thank you bro this video really helped me rethink my mindset dealing with my pain. Alot of what you said on the mental side really applies to me. I'm 39 with full custody of my 4yo daughter and before her I was the type of person who was angry and violent. I've changed for her and try to be the best father I can possibly be everyday. My back has been killing me for the past 9months and I go work a physical job everyday to support us. I try my best with good intentions and it never goes good for me.Sometimes I feel like there's no light at the end of the tunnel and the stress makes everything worse. My back still hurts but mentally I feel hope after the way you worded things. I appreciate you for trying to help those in desperate need of relief.
Thank you for sharing this. Very touching. 'Love is willing the good of the other' and never goes unnoticed. Do you have a support network? It's good to have one. Stay with it 😉
I’m a long time hiker. Blew my knee out , also twisted my back resulting in excruciating lumbar and SI pain. Waiting for a knee replacement almost terrified to walk . After doing this practice consistently for about 4 weeks, I finally had the courage to get out and walk 30 minutes at a time. I’ve felt little shifts and improvement one day, next day awful. Now I’m finally feeling a big improvement in discomfort. Almost none at all. Thank you so much for this gentle yoga persuasion. It’s damn good medicine. I’ve always done things hard including some yoga, (except for yin!) 😊 thank you thankyou !
This is an outstanding video. Thank you so much. I’ve been living with chronic lower back pain for 5+ years. A recent MRI showed bulging and protruding discs with narrowing of the spinal cord and spondylitis 😢 I’ve been doing these exercises three times a week for a few weeks now and can - for the first time ever - feel improvements already 🙏 I’m so grateful 🙏
@@yogawithtim Thoroughly enjoying the book too (Healing Back Pain by Dr John E. Sarno). Such a refreshing read, it makes perfect sense to me - I’ve long since questioned whether there’s a psychological element to my pains. Again; many thanks 🙏
Thank you, thank you, thank you! God bless you, your video is the ONLY thing that had help me to walk somewhat normal after I herniated my disk this week. No medicine, no massage nothing had helped me as much s the movements on this video. Literally GOD sent.
🙏 I keep coming back to these back practices! I have prolapsed discs from many years of high impact exercises & I too discovered yoga after advice from my consultant as I refused to have an operation. That was around 17 years ago and now with lots of walking & yoga, rarely have any problems or pain. This practice is particularly great after a mountain climb or a hard hike. Been with you since COVID & so thank you Tim for your inspiring classes! 😊
Thank you for sharing your story, it's hard when that happens at such a young age because it doesn't cross your mind. I had cauda equina when I was 27, extremely grateful that I can walk, however the Dr diagnosed it too late & it left permanent nerve damage. Over 23 years it's led to degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, fibrosis of the nerves and arthritis. I had a big relapse 10 years later, that's when I was given the stenosis diagnosis, even though it was recorded in my medical records 7 years previously. However I went through an excellent physio program of hydrotherapy and then a back rehab class, which led me to yoga. Your videos have been a god send for me and have given me the confidence to chase my dream as a yoga teacher. I've always appreciated the attention to detail you put in your practices that other yoga teachers don't. Bought Dr Sarnos book. You'll never know how grateful I am for the knowledge you've put out there. You've certainly made a huge difference to my life, for that I owe you big time. Thanks Tim 🧘🏼♀️💜
@@yogawithtimwhat a difference this practice has made! I was given strengthening exercises from a physio, they made my pain worse and knocked my progress back. I stopped the ones that flared my back up, clamshells and side leg raises, and stuck with this practice, I've done some standing and upper body practices on my in between days, but boy has it help me recover. I'm able to do my fave poses again, it's magical and I'm at the point where I'm ready to start teaching. I've got so much faith in yoga and wish more health experts understood why it's called a practice and you adapt the poses to suit you, not the other way around. So many get caught up in how the pose is supposed to look or sometimes see them being taught wrong and they assume that's how people are going to practice. I feel they underestimate the intelligence of people who choose yoga to heal their back problems. Anyway, thought I'd give you an update on my progress after a month. I appreciate all that you do Tim 🙏🏼🤍
I've done these stretches and exercises for 3 straight days, and I've noticed a significant difference. (Sitting in a car still hurts) I've watched so many videos where they tell you to do Pigeon Pose or pulling your knees to chest. That just makes my pain worse. You're right about the gentle movements being key in recovery.
@yogawithtim - Thank you!!! I have degenerative disk disease and currently have a pinched nerve in lumbar spine & my back is tight. After this session, my back has released slightly. Thank you for sharing these stretches, I will incorporate these into my practice every other day. Namaste !
Thanks Tim. I had a centre back issue six years ago, that totally shocked me, and the only thing that helped me reclaim my body and free me from pain was mindful movement. This led to my training to teach yoga and Pilates. I love the calmness of your practices, and often come back to them.
I have significant lateral recess stenosis at L4/L5. Trying to manage the pain conservatively before I have to opt for surgery. I found you today and looking forward to doing these every second day. If you can recommend others I’d appreciate it!
I have 4 herniated discs since 21 in low and middle back, most of them in the low back. I constantly do some yoga and core training in order for my back to be strong. But recently I pull up something heavy and my lower back disk blew up again and I couldn’t even stand straight, only lay down. I tried some exercises, but they didn’t help much, then I found this video and it really helped instantly! Thanks Tim a lot for your video and what you do🙏🏻
Thank you so Much!! I am experiencing a pinched a nerve or something like that, in my lower back after jumping back into the Gym. This wonderful gentle approach really felt different than, the targeted stretching and pressing on the area that I was doing ... I'm feeling the healing already, and truly appreciate this ! Thanks again !! Peace, joy, and happiness always -Love Erik
@@yogawithtim it really has! I did the session and held the poses for a bit longer I'm sitting now in good posture with a 5 point reduction in pain .. I also took a long walk this morning after the session ... The pain went from an 8 to around a 3! Truly ! Thanks again ! Love Erik
I've been doing yoga for 15 years, perhaps always too aggressively, I'm very flexible but a I always have some sort of back pain. I had also abused my lower back with gymnastics, breakdance and skateboarding at a younger age. I never thought about going through those basic movements, concentrating on muscle tension and position more than range. I'll give it go, thanks 🙏
I read Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss when I was 21. It's the book that changed me fundamentally. I've never thought about illness and healing (nor us as beings) in the same way since. And I found this channel after putting back out last year. I'm miles away from where I was then in terms of strength, flexibility and balance as well as general mental health. Thankyou sorry much, Tim. I'm going to sign up to CMC 😊
Wow Tim, what can I say! I’ve had lower back issues for years - L4 and L5 pain from Scoliosis, more recently moving into my hips and groin affecting sleep and mood and definitely not helping my golf swing! Found this on you tube this morning and felt all the pain and tension melting away as I followed your stretches 🙏 thank you so much, I will carry this on as you’ve suggested and have subscribed for when I feel ready to change it up with your other stretches and workouts, thanks again
Thank you for this. Like you I was stretching as much as could doing my normal yoga routine believing it would help the healing process. But the pain was getting worse..Now after doing this I realise how my over stretching was actually hindering the healing process. So grateful and looking forward to moving on to more videos as my back feels ready to.
Thank you so much for this video, Tim. I am going through so many of the things that you said right now: herniated disc, osteoarthritis, beginning degenerative disc disease, and I am a yoga teacher, too! 😅 When I saw that this was uploaded only 4 days ago, I felt like it was fate that I came across this video. 💗 Again, thank you so much for uploading this here instead of making it into an expensive program or something like that. Namaste 🙏
Thank you.. I love that it’s gentle because you’re right intuitively I want to stretch it but it brings no real relief. I will be practicing this & following you!
Last year I went to bump my yoga practice to a daily routine, and found your challenge last year, so I had a way to focus my own practice and work on healing a pinched nerve in my back. My chiropractor office has bugged me several times because they say I am "over due" for an appointment. But--I have bested that pinched nerve through my daily, focused practice with you. Thank you - even before today's lesson.
Thank you. Dealing with herniated disc l5 s1. In pain. Will try. Physical therapy was not this good. Need to relax while engaging. My transverse is turned off. Love this view. Assuming California
I'm learning what works and doesnt. Slowing down to build stability. Holding bird dog 60 sec each side is challenging but strength slowing building. I find stretchy keeps jarring. Sally daily. Taking glucosamine and glutamine.also climbing stairs helps in small amounts. Your cues about slowing doe nervous system so helpful. We want to flee or fight pain. I'm always fixing things but then I can't relax....maybe I'm stuffing my anger, nope buy yes I'm stressed about fixing this and my POTS which is a form of dysautomnia. I'm so happy you can be active again. I pray for the same🙂😇
Thank you for this practice 🙏 A herniated disc and and arthritis in my lumbar spine... I also thought this was terrible. I was advised not to do yoga or pilates for 8 or 10 weeks. Obviously, my surgeon and PT had no clue about your teachings or Dr. Sarno. I was strongly encouraged to walk and when you're sharing your life with dogs you know you walk them every single day.
Thank you for sharing this Tim, I have an herniated disc and the times that I’ve had lots of pain where exactly during stressful moments in my life or before important changes. It is emotional and I am going to buy the book! Thank you so much ☺️
Thank you for this, really found it at the right time. Also your recommended reading, walking, PT, DO, etc ques me your integration of other healing paths and encourages me on the multifaceted path I’m on. Really thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this info. I have degenerative dish disease and have been dealing w chronic back pain for years. I have been enjoying your videos!
Thanks for this great session Tim! Even though I have been doing yoga for many years, I still get these bouts of back pain. So this is much appreciated.
Had a major back spasm a week and a half ago that left me immobile; thought I too had a herniated disc. Thankfully, x-rays show spine is healthy - feel like I have a new lease on life and am excited to learn how to better take care of my body and prevent this in the future! This video was one positive, helpful step towards that. Love your videos, and thanks for sharing your back journey!!
This is so timely for me! I had to stop the January 30 day challenge about day 20 because my sciatica pain (going on 2 months) was not getting better even though I was trying with PT too. I’m now thinking I was trying too hard! MRI the end of January showed bulging disc at L4-5 with nerve impingement. Have neurologist appointment tomorrow, so thanks for the ray of help this offers that gives me to compare with what the doctor will say. I definitely want to avoid surgery. My first session done and I will continue as you suggest. Thank you so much!
I don’t have back pain but I do enjoy the stretch and learn something new again. Thank you for sharing your experience and the clear instruction as always. Still here on your challenge. Thank you. 🙏
Tim, thank you so much for sharing your story. I have the same diagnosis as you, and it’s really encouraging to hear that you’ve found successful ways to heal. Thank you so much for this video!
Hi Kim here letting you know we are working with your video every other day now today was the 8th day. We have some severe lumbar spine issues but today we had some improvements in strength balance and coordination. We intend to continue working with your video and will keep you informed
Best find!!! Thank you🙌 Bed bound with herniated disc I’m in excruciating pain …could only do the movements with laying on my back and raised legs slowly moving side to side and it instantly gave me relief 😊
Thank you. I found your gentle nature and style very helpful. really resonated what you said about feeling like you need to stretch hard to match the level of sensation you get from the pain - but how that isn't actually what your body needs. So thank you!
Hello, thank you so much for this amazing introduction to yoga. Just what I’ve been looking for after a lifetime of action sports but having suffered a few injuries wanting to strengthen and care for my body better. You are both calming and clear in your guidance and in combining strength and gentleness in your movements. Lovely glimpses of your labradoodle in the background, big bonus ❤
You are so welcome and welcome to the channel! If you're looking for beginner type classes we have them. In the search bar on my site type in beginner and you’ll see the beginner videos 😉
Thank you so much! I was so much helped by this, I couldn’t believe how quickly my low back felt better after just one session. I’ve been doing it for about a month now and really enjoying. I want to echo the comment right before about Dr. Sarno. I read his book, and my back pain pretty much disappeared within a day or two. Highly recommend that as well. But I’m still loving doing these exercises with Tim. Thank you so much.
I addressed my back issue, which involved two bulging discs, through simple yet effective methods. I prioritized standing for extended periods throughout the day, which aided in reducing inflammation and can be considered a form of decompression (a back injury is a compression injury). Additionally, I regularly utilized pull-up bars for hanging exercises, further promoting decompression. A reverse hyper machine proved invaluable in my recovery journey. I also concentrated on exercises targeting the activation of my glutes and lower back muscles (ass), crucial for providing support to the back and discs. Lastly, I highly recommend familiarizing oneself with Stuart McGill, when it comes to back health I don't think you can do better than him.
Thanks for sharing your journey Tim, I have been greatly helped by the work of Dr. Sarno too :) TLDR: Herniated discs show up on ALL adult back imaging scans (even people in their 20s with no pain), and they are not correlated with pain. Thinking a herniated disc is the cause of your chronic back pain is like thinking your wrinkles cause headaches. So many folks have unnecessary and harmful operations, I'm so glad you didn't Tim!
@@robbstark8275 He probably means degeneration. The point stands though - most medical doctors over 45 years old will default to blaming degenerative changes on the MRI for all your back pain and it's a huge problem. My dad has back problems and keeps gettting advice "Don't lift weights, don't exercise, if it hurts just stop" and surprise surprise nothing improves and he's just in constant pain.
Thanks for sharing your journey, Tim. I think I was going about healing my back pain in all the wrong ways. Thanks to your video, I'm rethinking my approach and feeling better. Bought Dr. Sarno's book and I look forward to reading it.
Good Morning Tim Really enjoying the 30 day challenge. Day 28…registered late in the schedule. Your personality, humor and teaching technique will keep me here. I am really enjoying our 5am club start with you. Keep up the good work. Downloaded recent running video for day 31. Wish there were more!!
Thank you so much for these exercises. I will do them and tell you how it goes, but after doing them just one time I already feel my back more relaxed! 🙏
This has been very helpful for my multiple lumbar disc bulges. Particularly, the transverse abdominal strengthening and the initial range of motion movement. I'm not quite ready for the windshield wiper movement and the bridge pose. Thank you!
I’ve practiced yoga for a long time, 10+ years daily. I am here to try and relieve what I feel like tightness in lower back that is helped by hamstring stretching, but rapidly comes back, especially when walking. My question is when trying these lovely exercises am I keeping lower ribs and abs firm? Relaxing them for some moves? Tailbone down? Any advice is appreciated! PS your gentle tone feels so accepting and kind, it feels like a true gift. Thank you.❤️
Thanks so much for sharing Tim. I've been following your channels since 2016. In 2017 I injured my back, nothing crazy just woke up after falling asleep on a long flight. I am also a big surfer, lifeguard here in honolulu, prone to extension and tall. L5 s1 and l4 L5 degeneration and retrolithesis, circumferential bulging. 30 yrs old. I was pretty excited about Sarnos book early on, and use some of his techniques to this day, but unfortunately I havent managed to overcome the chronic pain. Chiros, pt, acupuncture, talk therapy, etc. Ive since decided to double down on pt interventions, and a few months ago I decided to give up surfing until I figure out an approach that heals me. Combination of pt, talk therapy, dieting, but ugh...still no luck yet. Luckily the pain is only 3-5. Hopefully one day can attend one of your classes in oc! At one point I was attending your conscious movement community. You're my favorite yoga instructor on youtube. Really appreciate you sharing your story here and its nice to see everyone chiming in in the comments

I would like to check out your yoga for back pain course, but I can't find it at the link you posted.
Where can we find the the link to the back pain course? The one posted looks like it’s for conscious movement.
Hi, I also can’t find the link for the back pain course! It just shows conscious movement
can we just take a moment to respect that doggo's beautiful calm presence

@@islasloan6595 yah, it’s the same thing, different words. I’ve read Gordon too, he’s awesome. Glad you found him!

Best of luck to you man. We all want you to feel better
Thank you so much for sharing this! So good to hear this. Wishing you the very best. Health and healing to you! 😉
Great insights. Thanks for sharing
@@ashleywilliams7102 Well, if you’re in long time chronic pain, moving is easier said than done.

Same here, thank you Tim!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
I feel you bro mahn its tough
I’ve been dealing with lower back pain and leg pain all the way down to my foot since I threw out my back last summer. What really spoke to me in this video was the comments about how repressed emotions can lead to lower back pain and tension. When I threw out my back, I was dealing with really difficult financial stress and work stress. Watching this felt really validating and honestly like you were reading my mind. Excited to go on a journey of healing.
Great comments! Thanks Jared
Paired with hip mobility and I went three days without pain- this is my start to healing!!!
Awesome! Great to hear it. Thanks Jaci

Always had issues with L-5 left side. I followed the routine here- when I got to the windshield wiper part, both legs and then crossed single wiper, I felt and heard a pop in my lower back-L5 and now it feels so much stronger and no longer nagging me every other day- thanks
Nice work!
Try reading the book i mention. See if you find yourself in it
I've been struggling with the pain and anxiety related to lower back arthritis and disc herneation for the better part of a year now. Thank you so much for making this available to myself and others!
get the book he mentions Healing Back Pain by Dr. Sarno. Your pain and anxiety will likely go away
My pleasure. I’m glad to hear that it’s helping you.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Thanks again, kind regards, Dave, Gold Coast, Australia

PT has its place for sure. Thank you for the update! 😊
Namaste.
Good to hear all this. Thank you Vicki 😉

Right on. Thank you Carine
These gentle stretches really take the painful tension out of my lower back. Thanks so much!!

🙏 I keep coming back to these back practices! That was around 17 years ago and now with lots of walking & yoga, rarely have any problems or pain. This practice is particularly great after a mountain climb or a hard hike. Been with you since COVID & so thank you Tim for your inspiring classes! 😊
Thanks for the update Linda - Good to hear 😉
Thank you Kristy for sharing your story. So glad to hear you're on the path of recovery. And so glad to be able to be of help. Please keep me posted 😉

This is exactly what I needed! I also suffer from a lower back herniated disk Constant pain. A BIG thank you for this one Tim❤👏🙌
Welcome Daphne

👍
Thank you for sharing this info. I have degenerative dish disease and have been dealing w chronic back pain for years. I have been enjoying your videos!
Thank you Cecile
Thanks for this great session Tim! Even though I have been doing yoga for many years, I still get these bouts of back pain. So this is much appreciated.
Glad it helps!
Glad it's helping. Thanks Brianna 😉
Sorry to hear that. Stay aligned with your M.D. and let me know how it goes for you.
I don’t have back pain but I do enjoy the stretch and learn something new again. Thank you for sharing your experience and the clear instruction as always. Still here on your challenge. Thank you. 🙏
Cool Stay with it
Still doing this initial one but looking forward to moving on to moving on to doing more when I feel able 👍🙏
OK. Cool. Thanks
Tim, thank you so much for sharing your story. I have the same diagnosis as you, and it’s really encouraging to hear that you’ve found successful ways to heal. Thank you so much for this video!
You're so welcome!
Thank you! This felt so good
Glad to hear it. Thanks Karina
Hi Kim here letting you know we are working with your video every other day now today was the 8th day. We have some severe lumbar spine issues but today we had some improvements in strength balance and coordination. We intend to continue working with your video and will keep you informed
OK. Please do
Best find!!! Thank you🙌
Bed bound with herniated disc
I’m in excruciating pain …could only do the movements with laying on my back and raised legs slowly moving side to side
and it instantly gave me relief 😊
So good to hear this!
Thanks
You're welcome. Thank you
Thank you. I found your gentle nature and style very helpful. really resonated what you said about feeling like you need to stretch hard to match the level of sensation you get from the pain - but how that isn't actually what your body needs. So thank you!
Great. Thanks Felix

You're so welcome and thank you!
Thank you for sharing! 😉
Not nearly on all adult scans. I'm an MRI doctor.
I think you mean there’s degeneration present on most adult scans. Herniation is different though and definitely causes pain.
I’m sorry but my herniated discs are the entire reason I can barely walk when the pain from them gets too intense.
Hes probably just saying that many adults have disc bulges that don’t have back problems according to mri scans.
This is awesome. My mobility trainer taught me everything you said. Good job and thanks for sharing.
Great to hear!
Your dog is a serene presence in this video ❤
Thank you!
I would love to see you do a video like this that focuses on the neck!
There’s neck videos on the channel. In the search bar on my site type in neck Then you’ll see all the neck videos 😉
Thanks for sharing your journey, Tim. I think I was going about healing my back pain in all the wrong ways. Thanks to your video, I'm rethinking my approach and feeling better. Bought Dr. Sarno's book and I look forward to reading it.
Thanks Kelley. Let me know how it goes for you
Good Morning Tim
Really enjoying the 30 day challenge. Day 28…registered late in the schedule. Your personality, humor and teaching technique will keep me here. I am really enjoying our 5am club start with you. Keep up the good work. Downloaded recent running video for day 31. Wish there were more!!
Thanks Mike. There’s more runner videos on the channel. In the search bar on my site type in runner Then you’ll see all the runner videos 😉
Thank you so much for these exercises. I will do them and tell you how it goes, but after doing them just one time I already feel my back more relaxed! 🙏
You're so welcome!
This has been very helpful for my multiple lumbar disc bulges. Particularly, the transverse abdominal strengthening and the initial range of motion movement. I'm not quite ready for the windshield wiper movement and the bridge pose. Thank you!
Good to hear it's been helpful 😉
This is so helpful
Good to hear!
Thank you.❤️
How long have you had it?
At least a year possibly more. You sort of just assume it’s tight hams and you’re not stretching the right bits:(
Thanks so much for sharing Tim.
Sorry to hear about your back stuff.
Thanks! Hope to see you in person one day too. Have a good one
Your dog is super chilled.
Ha! Thanks
