No I didn’t like the episode unfortunately. This guy and 99% of the other nutrition people you’ve brought on are basically grifters and have fringe views because the truth is boring! I get it you’ve got the podcast. I’ll save everyone a lot of time. Go and watch the episode with Layne Norton. That’s the only one who is willing to be honest.
Keep bringing guests like this and watch your viewership tank. This episode is a huge L.
We love you 👍🏽🙏🏽❤️
It’s simple - eat real food; sleep; move your body; have positive social interactions; hydrate; give thanks. The end.
Is that what the video said? I don't want to sit through a 90 minute video of that is all it says. Reading a 10 second summary is more efficient.
@@audience2 Not if you want to understand how your body works and process glucose and fructose,
@@audience2if fast and summaries were efficient we would not have the health crisis we have now. Because everybody gets quick info in the internet these days, and follows it. Yet….
@0921AV fasting works perfect. Fasting isn't the issue, the issue is people actually having the discipline to do it. Big difference.
Well said!!!
Thank you for this conversation.
As a pre med student , Harvard, I met with the department head of Nutrition at the School of Medicine, telling him that it was a conflict of interest that he was the head of the department, yet was also on the sugar board.
I was promptly asked to leave his office.
That eye opening meeting resulted in my life-long dedication to educating others of how to achieve vitality and health radiance through diet and lifestyle.
The next year I started a health teaching museum with other talented professionals who believed that young children were the target audience for health information.
I am pleased to see that I have lived long enough to see an entire generation of health professionals who are brave and audacious enough to whistle blow in response to food crimes against humanity.
Well done, gentlemen!
Impressive!
Lady barb, you have met the wall. When you hit the wall you didn’t walk or run away. You poll vaulted over that wall and made your own path, congratulations! The next would be to fight these powers and extinguish them. It’s so not fair that people who will never find there way to health truth by way of this video a friend relative, there never going to find it in education your story is case in point. If you can’t get truth in college you’re not getting it in elementary where it needs to start. Money is King.
Few would argue with limiting excessive amounts of refined carbohydrates to realize better health, at any age. But, some people can tolerate them better than I, and not everybody eats them to excess. There are lazy, overweight couch potatoes who eat junk food several times a week who have better blood sugar numbers than I do. It isn't fair. Diabetes is a complex, multifactorial health condition that should never be blamed solely on eating this or that.
Good for you 👍 👏 🙌

Home cooked food is the best. Nothing tastes better than a meal you put together yourself. As a mother and wife watching my family eat a home cooked meal brings me so much joy.
Soooo true and its full of love and effort ❤
Agree! One of the things i priorities as a single working mum
I have a mat in front of my sink that says "Cooking with Love provides food for the soul." I only have myself to cook for, most of the time, but it's still a good idea, much better than eating out all the time.
Yes, you're Wright, but it is although
time consuming, especially for working parents with children. I'm a grandmother with grown up grandkids? I know how hard it is.
@@elkegreiser1799 How much more time-consuming is cooking compared to going out to a restaurant, looking at the menu, making a decision, ordering the food, waiting for the food, and God only knows what they use in the food to make it. Beautiful! I'm glad you took charge of your life!!
Congratulations!!!! Well done.
Brillant to finally here someone speak up so clearly, fascinating explanation, thank you! In my family we've always been obsessed with our food and the cooking of it, I was taught food is our medicine for life and even under financial stress I never waiver from home cooking from scratch day in day out, and at a lesser cost. But like everything it's a discipline that pays off. All processed foods are poison as is sugar, my father taught us that from day 1, stay simple and as natural as possible.
That's fantastic 🎉
This interview brought me tears. Dr. Lustig’s “why” he does what he does really moved my heart. Respect.
Absolutely criminal what the food industry has gotten away with and still does to this day.
I am a 48 year old with Cerebral Palsy. I have been ambulatory since age 4. When I consume even the tiniest amount of sugar (less than a teaspoon), I experience paralysis. I can't move my arms or legs and my speech, which is otherwise completely normal becomes very impaired. We make all of our food from scratch now and I don't have a problem.
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!! It's so important! 😀

due to the existential dread of living in a cold, uncaring universe hurtling toward oblivion...
The neurochemical basis for this blew my mind! I’ve seen people philosophize about how we’ve traded long- for short-term happiness, but hearing the causal mechanism behind it really drives it home.

Every parent should watch this video. I love Dr Lustig. I am 70. I have been addicted to sugar my entire life. I am Type 2 diabetic, have HTN, had colon cancer 9 years ago, hyperccholesterol, hyper thyroid and psoriatic arthritis.I will go weeks eating right, then one slip up and go back into the old habits. Immediately, I feel inflammation in hands and joints. Are there treatment centers for sugar addicts. I love how I feel when I am eating right but hate when I lose control.
Google "behavior contract example."
Hi. Have you been on on a keto diet? It is the easiest diet I ever went on. It means you can give yourself treats, like strawberries dipped in very dark chocolate and whipped cream.
You need never be hungry. Eventually, it will become a way of life.
The comment above mine is one way to address things. Another is to go full carnivore, eating fatty beef everyday kills all cravings , and in time carnivore changes the hunger signal, your brain gets the message to come out of survival mode.
some folks have difficulty with such a big change all at once, Howe for some it is necessary to stop the addiction.
Either way, you need to nourish the brain with quality animal fats and amino acids, and get a good mineral and electrolyte supplement like what keto chow has (don’t get any of their stuff with Splenda or sucralose in it). Doing these things will really help the PHYSIOLOGY of sugar addiction. It’s not just a willpower thing.
If you do check out the carnivore route, you can get support and coaching from the “steak and butter gang” .
You don’t have to do it forever, just do it long enough to heal and get your control back.

It’s a unbelievable heartbreaking crime to feed children so much sugar. With this knowledge schools nutrition has so much sugar which causes so many serious problems and issues…should be immediately stopped!!! Every parent world wide should get this knowledge or should know…
14:09 6-9tsp/day dietary sugar (~12 grams of fructose/day without metabolic derangement) (same as 12g of EtOH/day)
We should be 25g sugar (1/2 of which is fructose).

"There is no weight gain without insulin". What a tremendously simple statement!
Absolutely . My 12 year old is gaining weight as he has diabetic lows caused by too much insulin. We know the key is to dial in his insulin better. Easier said than done though!
But there’s weight gain from too much cortisol in the body and high stress not all weight gain is from food
Yes, this is based on Ben Bickman's research - he studies fat in his lab.
There's also no weight gain without food... you guys who are so stuck on insulin you all missed very simply biology. CALORIES in vs CALORIES OUT.
@@sarahd7716 False. Too much cortisol in your body does not give you extra calories to gain weight. You can have all the corisol in the world, but if you eat NOTHING, you will not have the Calories (Energy) nor nutrients needed to build Tissue... that includes Fat Tissue.
Any and ALL weight gain is from food... the stuff that gives you nutrients/energy. You don't just magically create Fat (Tissue) out of nothing. For F'sake people, read a basic Biology book.
My mom and my dad were really big on eating fruits, vegetables, home cooked meals and limiting our juice and pop intake. We drank a lot of water in my childhood and I’m so grateful to my parents for doing this for us. It’s crazy how much this affects us and we don’t know
Soooooo true,in Asian cultures and sub continent home cooked meals was a must Unfortunately slowly it is getting worse because of big companies have currpt the system and people are eating fast food and more desiease.

I grew up in a large family and there wasn't the money to buy junk foods, though we always had dessert after dinner. Our after-school snack was toast or cereal and not the sugar-coated kind. We had milk to drink, juice for breakfast. I shudder when I see people buying groceries and their children are with them and the cart is 90% junk and sugar laden products.

I had severe hives for 30-40 years on my arms. I went to many many doctors with no improvement. If I could use enough ice to prevent myself from scratching myself bloody during the day, I would do it at night. Finally, a chiropractor said that her mother had scars on her arms like mine, and that she had stopped eating sugar for a week and a half and the hives had gone away. Done! But Fructose isn't the sugar found in fruits??? that's mean fruits are bad or I'm getting it wrong???
@@kalilabn The fruits is natural sugar. It's not added sugar and nor is it processed. The fructose in those sugar bags, sweets, bread, etc isn't natural because you are added a process, i.e. adding sugar to food that doesn't need it but because you want to feel the endorphins and cause your taste buds trained, messed up you add it. I'd even say it's a drug because people are addicted to this processed sugar.

We’d also need to change voters’ public opinion to overcome the influence of lobbyists in America. Unfortunately we would need laws to keep the food industry in check, but half the US voters “don’t want the government telling us what we can and can’t buy”. The food industry has convinced us it’s a question of personal responsibility, which is partly true, but how true is it when not everyone has that information or are too addicted to sugar to change? And how does that affect our mental health and self-esteem when we are convinced it’s totally our own fault? 😖

Having three children each with their own favoured foods, it’s interesting to see the changing attitude throughout the day depending on what they eat and if it contains sugar etc.
Because of this i ran a little experiment and i have found one key thing to improve their well being when travelling for example, rather then bars of chocolate or fizzy drinks, a bag of small sweets spread throughout a 4 hour car journey keeps them in line, that’s 1 jelly bean an hour and they’re talking about what they see asking good questions and when we’re at our destination they’re ready for the the thing we’re doing, previously we have given them a bag of sweets each with a lunch break and it was mayhem, i call them moral boosters and the children have been told why i do it and they are very responsive to the idea. It’s not perfect but i hope this idea can help others.

Sadly in many countries, including South Africa; baby formula, cereal and baby food contain sugar. Addiction to sugar begins from such a young age. Children are not able to make decisions and parents a unaware of what their children are consuming inadvertently.
And there’s talk that companies shipped formula banned in US and EU to developing nations with lower/fewer regulations.
Corporate malfeasance is imo what’s unpinning much of society…from food industry, media industry.
We seem to be woefully lacking in accountability…it’s IBG YBG
And yet we trust government when violating the Nuremberg Code.
Maize as well is pure glucose.. and some people in developing countries eat it for breakfast, lunch and supper
Absolutely love how Steven conducts these interviews. He always asks the right questions, the ones I usually have on my mind right before he voices them. . I’m growing very fond of this channel. Even better in my headphones in the morning during my urban hikes.
And he does not interrupt ❤
Actually he does, but with the right questions and they're not annoying, they are relevant plus Steven has a natural charm, he's very handsome and wellspoken so when he speaks and asks a relevant question, it's a pleasure to hear.
He does do a very good job
Thank you for putting this doctor on your program. It amazes me that most doctors have absolutely no new training and are resistant to innovative knowledge.
What is appalling is the quantity of highly risky bariatric surgeries being carried out in the uk on morbidly obese patients - and the doctors are still saying calories in calories out and exercise more - this strategy and advice has not worked - but nobody is looking at the alternative. If Keto is mentioned the answer is - it’s too restrictive, people won’t stick to it…. But it breaks the addiction. Something extremely fishy that no one is actively investigating keto and they are still advocating carbs - even for diabetes- it’s shocking 😡
I have never commented on any video before....this is life changing and I am grateful.
Rob is literally a brilliant mind, there's so many UTTER clowns on youtube but Robert Lustig is NOT one.
"Sugar is like alcohol". I have said this for years. Sadly, I still struggle with both even though I am perceived as healthy. Dr. Lustig is amazing, and so are you! Thank you for another amazing podcast!
You are not alone 😅
I struggle with neither. Take it a step at a time
Completely agree. As someone who has cut out all sugar and alcohol, I can only advise you simply completely stop. It's the only thing that worked for me: not oh, I'll cut down slowly, or start tomorrow, you decide now.
Keep listening. Repeat constantly. We can train our brain. It may take time but keep the info filling your thoughts. Don’t give up
@@PaulSimonMcCarthy-fu6ms I’m starting to think this is the only way I can get healthy. People think I you have to make gradual changes to be able to stick to them, but since I believe I am actually addicted to sugar, I think I need to treat it like any other addiction and just cut it out altogether.
Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios in the last 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?
Just ''buy the dip'' man. In the long term it will payoff. High interest rates usually mean lower stock prices, however investors should be cautious of the bull run, its best you connect with a well-qualified adviser to meet your growth goals and avoid blunder
The truth is that this is really not as difficult as many people presume it to be. It requires a certain level of diligence, no doubt, which is something ordinary investors lack, and so a financial advisor often comes in very handy. My friend just pulled in more than $84k last month alone from his investment with his advisor. That is how people are able to make such huge profits in the market
nice! once you hit a big milestone, the next comes easier.. who is your advisor please, if you don't mind me asking?
'Marisa Michelle Litwinsky is her name. She is regarded as a genius in her area and works for Empower Financial Services. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
Thank you for this tip. It was easy to find your coach. Did my due diligence on her before scheduling a phone call with her. She seems proficient considering her resume.
I have listen to Dr Lustig for at least nine years. I am so proud of us. He has shrink and so have I . Both of us are svelte. Thank…. Not a hypocrite.
I have recently been able to get off of all my insulin with intermittent fasting and a low carb lifestyle. This was one of my favorite episodes! There's so much good information provided.
Forgive me for asking, but are you type 1? My brother is T1D and I'm desperate to find a way to fix him.
@@amandabuschT1D does not produce insulin so he will need insulin for life, unless someone came out with the cure.
One of the most valuable videos on UA-cam. Everyone needs to see this.
I can't listen anymore. Everything in the world today is so corrupt.
Everything? I think this podcast shows us the many things/people that are not.
As a pediatric nurse, I must say this is one of the most wonderful podcasts I've ever listened to. I will definitely save it and send it to some folks.
When I was in grad school, I was mostly eating very healthy, I was barely drinking any alcohol or eating sugar. I had a candy dish in my office for my students who came to my office hours. Some days I would eat the candy and noticed a direct correlation with getting bad sleep that night and feeling like crap the next day. It made me stop eating the candy altogether
I quit sugar after realizing how much control I had given to this substance. No control over my appetite, insatiably hungry and never satisfied, feeling perpetually bloated, inflamed, and constipated. I kid you not you guys it’s only be about 12 days of 0 added sugar and only low glycemic foods (although I will have potatoes & sourdough (not fried) after a veggie starter) I have lost 10 pounds, feel satiated with my meals (big focus on protein and veggies), feel energized, I have been SUPER regular, my skin is already glowing, and I don’t even crave sugar! Sweet things don’t even really look like real food anymore! I will indulge in watermelon, or make a Greek yogurt bowl with berries and almond butter and coconut flakes and it all tastes so SWEET with no added sugar at all! I am NEVER going back. After years of struggling with body image, disordered eating, and my relationship with food, I finally feel free! To anybody else out there struggling with these things, I promise there is a light on the other side of the tunnel, but so long as you consume added sugar and these high glycemic index and hyperpalatable foods, the proverbial shades will block out that light and keep you in a negative feedback loop. Never forget that a sick individual is the easiest person to be commodified, so there is literally every incentive in the world in a capitalistic society to keep you sick. My heart goes out to anybody struggling with this addiction, my agnostic self truly prays for everyone afflicted, and I’m grateful to this doctor for being courageous in the face of so many institutions who would be very eager to shut him up.
how did you get through any withdraw symptoms with no surgar?
Well said
@@UnovianPrincess well I did a 36 hour fast in the beginning which I think mitigated a lot of the withdrawal symptoms! Initially I also had a little bit of added sugar in like 85% dark chocolate etc. that maybe helped with the withdrawal? The cravings were really intense at first but I would just give myself an apple and some string cheese and almonds etc. until I just couldn’t eat anymore and that really helped!
@@Heyheywereallfriendshere thank you. I did keto and IF before for 2.5 weeks and I felt the best I’ve felt in years. But it didn’t last long because I went on vacation and people couldn’t stand that I didn’t want to eat absolute trash so I caved and have been on the keto wagon since. It is so hard for me to cut carbs. It’s like I get sick until I eat them every damn time I try to quit it
@@UnovianPrincess one thing I’m implementing for sustainability is a hard “not in my kitchen” policy when it comes to these types of foods. I will not buy any of these items, but occasionally I will have them with other people, and only a little! One thing that helps I’ve noticed too is not telling people 😂 people sort of, I’ve noticed, push you to consume these products to justify their own consumption, like when an alcoholic tells you they don’t want to drink alone. If it seems like you just don’t want it in that moment, it’s easier to sort of fly under the radar. Also not beating yourself up if you cave in at any point. Just start fresh the next meal/day! Nobody has to live in your body but you, the good feeling only gets better I promise you!

This is 100% true. I lost weight so much faster when i cut carbs/sugars. Doing this led to a major reduction in insulin levels and finally allowed me to lose weight at a massive clip. This information really needs to be made public and stressed by the medical community. No, you don't need to Carnivore or Keto, but those who need to lose weight need to majorly reduce their carb/sugar intake, it will change their life.
I paused this video and literally poured away all the sugar in the house down the sink.
Well done🎉
Awesome! 👏👏👏
You: “I threw away all the sugar in my house”
Sugar: “😂😂😂😂😒You’ll be back”
I just poured a sweet tea to listen to this.. I may try a sugar substitute
Same!!
I have watched numerous documentaries with Professor Lustig. Absolutely agree with him 100%!
Incredible !!! How refreshing to listen to an expert in the field that can explain so well! Well done Stephen!
That last question was powerful. It takes courage to be disliked and you do not have to please everyone.
Indeed. I completely I identify with mr. Lustig's answer to the last question. Wish I had known in my early twenties.
I have followed Dr. Lustig for many years. What an excellent speaker. What a beautiful heart. ❤️
I loved this fantastic interview ❤️! My mother reversed her Type II diabetes with a whole food ketogenic diet and is now healing more and losing weight on a Carnivore diet. She had a fatty liver and was on medicine for reflux, metformin, and blood pressure. She no longer needs those medications!
Please have Dr. Ken Berry, on your show!
Never gonna happen. 🙅♀️ Steven is an ambassador for Zoe, the gut microbiome research company - they’re all about the importance of fibre. The carnivore diet is the complete opposite to that. I get it that morbidly obese people can lose weight and reverse their diabetes on keto and carnivore and therefore improve their overall health, but it’s not a long term solution. You have to feed your gut microbiome and you can only do that with plants. Dr Berry is about bacon!
@ZsuzsaKarolySmith OK, thank you for explaining his biases. It's apparent that you know nothing about the proper human diet if you think Dr. Ken Berry is ALL about bacon. 😆 I challenge anyone to read the comments and testimonials on Dr. Berry's channel. People do your own research and don't knock it until you've tried it. I don't miss the acid reflux(GERD), gas, bloating, etc. that a fiber rich diet gave me.
carnivore would not be good though since there is no fiber so she will kill her good gut bacteria, would be better ketovore
I've been watching your channel sporadically for the past 6 or so months and I quite frankly admit, haven't pressed that subscribed button yet. This one, wow. Subscribed.
Such a brilliant eye opening discussion. I liked the way Dr. Lustig answered the question refering to the possibility of his and others work being discredited in 10 yrs time. Loved every minute of this! 👏
This podcast like so many of yours is teaching me how to live better, have empathy for all of humanity and to put a plan into action for a healthy version of myself. Thank you so much for making these!❤
Dr Lustig has changed my life. 3 months of No added sugar - feels like I’m going through my own rebirth!! ❤ and no sugar cravings (I eat 1-2 pieces of fruit 1-2 per month and don’t feel any need to eat them more often)
His books 📚 are 💎!! 🙌❤️
Which is your favorite book? Thank you.
How are his books helpful?
@@lauramonahan9343the first that blew my mind was ‘Fat Chance The bitter truth about sugar’ - after reading this first book and watching his videos I got rid of all junk food from my cupboards, I’ve also read Glucose Revolution, Ultra Processed people, obesity code and mark hymans books and Michael’s Mosley recipe books. Metabolical is the next great book by Dr Lustig, I wish all doctors would read it!!!
I know I’m at the point of no return and in love with clean eating 🥰 ❤
@@ceeez3072he talks about things that are not advertised and why we need to stick to the way we were created by the universe/god and lean towards gods made foods rather than man made foods. Because food is our medicine with both the power to harm and heal. And of course it’s entirely up to us what we believe - McDonald’s ads with their amazing meal deals or fat free no added sugar stuff or we choose natural foods… food is not just carbs, proteins, fats it’s also consists of medicinal compounds embedded in animal foods or plants 🌱
The BEST communicator of all health experts!!
His first 5 min succinctly explaining the difference between happiness and pleasure and dopamine and serotonin pretty much shows how good he is.
I love how Dr. Lustig is frequently on the verge of swearing during interviews! How can you "not" considering the BS that is the modern medical and food industries!!! 👎
The fountain of facts he can freely command is staggering!
What was Dr Lustig’s stance on experimental treatments?
Zucker/Nein!
Thanks for inviting this amazing man! Great scientist and a brilliant story-teller!
Exceptional guest!! Thank you for trying make each one of our lives and the whole world better place!
Dr. Lustig is the GOAT
Best interview ever! I only came for weight loss tips, but as a bonus, I received advice on how to live a good, happy life.
YES!
Thank you , Dr. Robert Lustig ! Thank you, Steven !
Great podcast !! I am a layman, I will like to watch podcast like this over and over again if it has English subtitles.
2:00 'Pleasure is short lived. Happiness is long lived.' 'Pleasure is dopamine' 'Happiness is Serotonin'
5:03 7:26 'The more pleasure you seek, the more unhappy you get. Dopamine down regulates serotonin.'
Dopamine: Supports feelings of reward and motivation. Serotonin: Helps maintain emotions. Lower serotonin results in mood depression. In a similar way, a primary key to a good marriage is to lower your expectations.
There's no proof low serotonin causes depression.
Great Job, Steve and Robert! VERY important concepts conveyed in a very straightforward and easily accessible way. You cannot listen to this interview without having your general health perspective profoundly changed (whether you are overweight or not.) As another viewer says below, this podcast should be urgently required viewing for all, not just health professionals, policy-makers, and parents.
Thank you so much for sharing, so glad you enjoyed the episode! 🙏
@@TheDiaryOfACEO Have an issue with my phone and had to watch the introduction again, seen retrospectively the attempt to dramaticise merely trivialises the profound and fundamental importance of the information contained herein. I can also recomend John Yudkin's: 'Pure White And Deadly' for which the good professor wrote the 2012 editions foreword. Thank you and good luck. X
I didn't use to eat breakfast and I always had energy, but when I retired I started to eat porridge and berries in the morning. Result was that I felt tired and hungry all day, and slept for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I decided to skip breakfast and my energy came back, which seems to bear out the theory!
Wow!
Same with me. I was slim, no allergies and healthy until I got a personal trainer who told me to eat a lot more and breakfast. Since then I’ve struggled with allergies and gut issues.
@@JulieLloyd-if9rr at least we know why now!
Then there’s me: if I skip breakfast, I’m lightheaded until I eat something. Even if it’s an apple and a little peanut butter, that’ll take care of me until mid afternoon or so

Yes, I'm a teacher and he is 💯% correct. The school food is nothing but SUGAR.
It prevents us from collecting pensions, as does all the aluminum particles being sprayed on us.
Retired teacher here.Students in my school received free breakfast and lunch. Only healthy food was various fruits and a side of vegetables at lunch that most of the kids wouldn't eat.Almost all of the food was pre packaged, highly processed and high in sugar.
@@anneflynn9614breakfast is not free, "we" pay taxes. And if they don't eat, they're not hungry. Schools need to do better with the food they serve our children, I agree.
I get stuff from my kids school every week.
Hotdogs Wednesday, donut Friday, ice creams monthly. It's just always garbage food and they want you to pay more, more, more!
Pepsi used to incentivize putting soda machines in schools by giving rebate checks to the school for their sales. Not sure if they still do it.
I will RUN to this podcast every time you have on Dr. Lustig. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.
I readily admit that I am addicted to sugar. I’ve never thought about the difference between pleasure and happiness. At 69, I no longer have youth on my side and I must get off the sugar or accept it will shorten my life.. I’ll be honest, in 1980, I was strung out on cocaine for months. I quit cold turkey on Dec 31st, 1980 and never ever was tempted to do it (or any drugs) again. It was literally easier to quit cocaine than sugar.
You're not the first person I've heard say that. I saw someone else's comments on a similar video and they said heroin was easier to quit.
@@kerim.peardon5551 - I never tried heroin. Cocaine doesn’t cause physical withdrawal like heroin does. I can’t imagine going through opioid withdrawal.
OMG!! this is one of the most important interviews I have ever seen! This men has explained soooo many things to me!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Life changing!
This should be the man to write our high school biology textbook!

I’ve struggled with sugar addiction & binge eating since I was 10yrs old - I’ve only recently (thanks to this podcast) been able to do a deep dive into the intersections between my brain chemistry + mental health diagnoses + relationship with food.
All that complex work has been life changing and since Feb 2024, I’ve consumed so much less sugar than ever before. I spend more time thinking about the needs of my micro biome & figuring out what I need to do to help the little guys than eating sugar.
The experts that have come on this show & shared their research have empowered me so much & I am just so excited to learn more about food and how to consume it better.
I just want to love my micro biome and give it the goodies it needs to thrive
Do 2 weeks of strict carnivore.
Zero carbs. Just read the back of the pack.
Steak & butter works. Dr Ken Berry or Dr Chaffe are good.
I wasn’t prepared for how all of this came together at the end with the amygdala, and relating personal and planetary health. And I also appreciated the nugget about the courage to be disliked. Stephen, great interview with so much value. Your questions are the best.
i love how passionate and firm Dr Lustig is. Count the carbs, not calories!
Eating fat will result in you becoming fat just as fast as sugar does.
I love the way you acknowledge your guests Stephen. It’s always so articulate and heartfelt love your authenticity and genuine curiosity of the subject matter your guests are sharing. That’s what makes you and this channel compelling to watch. 😊❤
Life changing. I’m so glad I found this video. I’ll be listening again tomorrow just in case I missed something
I’m only a few minutes into this podcast, but the distinction he makes between seeking pleasure versus happiness and its relationship with addiction and dopamine/serotonin is wisdom we all should internalize. I know im currently addicted to sugar so i found even this introduction to be a compelling wakeup call that I need to prioritize my long term happiness and health over brief pleasure
