- This video will show you how to connect your computer to your television using an HDMI cord. You can use a PC to display audio and video on your TV and watch your favorite videos, movies or simply browse the web.
I ran into a situation where I was unable to hear any sound from my TV speakers. I was also getting this error message that said my AMD HDMI Digital Output was "Not Plugged In" when it clearly was. This caused the HDMI playback device in sound options to be "greyed out" and I was unable to select it and set it as the default device.
Sometimes updating your sound drivers, or rolling them back can fix any glitches you are having.
After connecting the two devices, it is not uncommon for you to have to restart your computer for Windows to recognize the HDMI output.

Give your computer/laptop a restart. Mine wasn't showing up either so I restarted my laptop and it showed up :)

if it doesn't work for you and when you right click on the volume thing on the screen, go to sound settings and go to the output audio pull down bar and hit the display option/your tv.

Brilliant genius: weeks of trying everything, including paying for a 'professional' visit ...who knew there was a right click function on the 'playback devices' screen showing that wretched silent TV. Took 30 seconds. Thanks Jay, you're tops.

Yes go to device manager and enable nvidia hd audio and nvidia wav extensible etc go back to playback the hdmi should be labelled as nvidia output 2 or something like that.

After enabling Show Disable and Show Disconnected, the hdmi option still didn't show up. HDMI cable is plugged in and I can see my computer. Just no sound.

Does anyone know a single shortcut to send both audio and video to tv? It's kind of a hassle to do all the clicks to switch back and forth.
hdmi connect set up display go to playback and select HDMI which should be either AMD here or nvidia make sure nvidia hd audio is enabled and wav extensible in device manager.

Are you using Windows 10? If so, just type "playback" into the search box in the taskbar and click on the "sound - control panel" icon

Umm then you just plug in a hdmi cable into your computor. All modern computors have hdmi.
Sure, but the laptop doesn't recognize the TV's soundspeakers... so the TV displays the laptop's image but no sound. The sound is coming out of the laptop's speakers. How can I force the laptop to recognize the TV's speakers?

HERE IS WHAT I DID BECAUSE MY TV WAS NOT SHOWING AT ALL AT THE SOUND OPTIONS NOT EVEN DISABLED OR TURNED OFF ETC. GO TO YOUR CONTROL PANEL AND GO TO PRINTERS TAB YOUR TV MUST BE THERE RIGHT CLICK IT AND UNINSTALL ITS DRIVERS THEN GO TO DEVICE MANAGER AND RIGHT CLICK THE LAPTOP/PC AND CLICK SEARCH FOR HARDWARE CHANGES THEN OPEN THE SOUND AND ENABLE YOUR TV.
At Best Buy there are many HDMI cable versions 1.3, 1.4, 2.0, 2.0a lebeled on HDMI cable boxes .
At Costco sells only ONE high speed HDMI cale for all HDMI connections for blu-ray player to HDTV or 4k TV.
Which one should you or I to buy?

I only have an all in one pc and it has no hdmi ports... I tried using an hdmi to usb adapter but it doesnt work. It is an hdmi cable connnected from the TV HDMI port to my all in one PC USB port by using a hdmi to usb adapter. Please tell me how I can broadcast my computer to my TV as it's not working.

thanks mate you just fixed my problem.I done the roll back and now my tv has sound again after it randomly stopped working one day!I was going mad because my tv worked fine for audio from ps3 or DTV and I was getting sick of wearing my headset for hours on end.
