I thought it was common sense that you could use a tv for pc, and also use a monitor for a console.

Thank you so much for this video. I have been trying for a few days to use my TV as a second screen as was my set up when I was at work but I couldn't remember how to do it. I forgot about the "extend these display" setting. Now I can watch TV and work at the same time. Cheers

hey.. so it's easy when you're trying to connect your LAPTOP... cos you see what you're doing and see how you're trying to connect and mirror your image cos you have a screen on your laptop... but to a desktop.. where you only have the CPU.. how can you know when a signal is got.. and if you got the right connection going on? Every video shows a laptop.. but it ain't the same with a desktop cos it's like you're blind trying to connect everything and trying to mirror to check whet is wrong and what is working?...And.. connecting a desktop PC to a smart TV.. should it get a signal diectly or should I look for a specific channel or connection on my smart TV? Thanks

thank you,i wanted to say the same thing, this title is how to use your tv as a computer monitor, not how to use your tv as a laptop monitor, they both are differant, totally,in the sense of the back where you plug everything in,looks totally differant, and all i wanted to know was how to connect my smart tv,vizio to my now windows 10 computer so i can use it as a computer monitor, right? i just wish everyone could understand the way you and i both do thanks again

I hope you still have your page running ? I didn't realize this was an old video but the information I received was dead on! I'm using an old 27" box screen TV and using a HDMI mini adapter and ample amount of HDMI cable to connect to my laptop, the display settings I just guest on and I'm using the Laptop speakers for audio because I have roommates and I have to use headphones late at night. Everything is setup just the way you showed it and is working fine!! Thank You for making a honest video that actually works! ( P.S. when you right click an empty spot on your desktop, just click "screen resolution" or "display settings" (depending on which version of windows you are running) rather than personalize, then display, then adjust resolution.
You end up in the same destination, but it takes less clicks to get you there.

Good video. I been using HDtvs for my computers for decades now a good friend of my is a computer tech so I learned a lot from him. But now days year 2020 VGA is on older tvs! I buy only Insignia HDtvs and one is a 2009 LCD and the later one is a 2015 LED. The Insignia LED HDtv was the last available tv at that time that had HDMI and VGA. So purchased it it replace an old 2005 LCD Insignia HDtv that had capacitors that had gone bad! A common issue in flat screen TVs. I have not seen that configuration since then. of course this is a old video but still good! Good Luck!

You can get a really nice keyboard mouse combo m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=9SIA4TZ2KJ0798 that's the one that I currently use for my computer/TV setup. Loved the video! I am in the process of replacing my 27" monitor with hopefully >>>> A 38" to 40" 4K UHD TV. You gave me some great in-sights on doing this, plus an additional unexpected in-sight.
The other day, I purchased a couple of beautiful shimmering black negligee's, was them and hung them out to dry. A few hours later, I go outside and find that they are missing. I thought to myself, that someone else clearly had more need for my new sexy negligee's and just let it go. I think next time, i'll set up a thief camera!
So here I am presently watching your video and BAMMM!, I see my new sexy see through, black negligee's draped over your windows as privacy shades. I'm totally shocked.....But likely not as shocked as you will be when I tell your wife! LOL
Smile and have a great day.........

I have a low end TCL without any Mirror Cast. Im looking at how to wirelessly connect my Laptop HDMI to one of my HDMI inputs on HDTV. They use to use a transmitter and a receiver; but with wifi they have a single thumb, or dongle to mimic a Mirror Cast type connection Im assuming. Can you explain the easiest way to use my laptop's HDMI output to my semi smart HDTV without a Mirror function ... or at least I cant find one. Now my router and Directv is the only device automatically showed up in available networks on my HDTV, but no wifi devices. I cant see any other way using a mirroring dongle, or thumb. Im assuming those have an HDMI male and seem to need a 5volt power source from a USB. Am I correct? Is there just an HDMI PC transmitter and HDTV receiver still for sale out there?

Just a suggestion, if using VGA. Make sure TV is on before you start, your PC won't recognize TV if it is turned on after pc starts. Set TV as main display as PC might not recognize some TV's if monitor is set as main display.

    thank you. Nice presentation.
The sound on my laptop is sometimes good; most times way too low. The laptop has been like that since new. On my previous laptop, the sound was always great. Is that an indication that there is a problem with the computer given that it works sometimes?
To avoid that, I have been using my SMART TV to provide sound. Now, the picture shows, but no sound.
The laptop has only one HDMI port. I'm concerned that so much plugging and unplugging is a problem. Is there a way to prevent issues with that?
Other than buying a new cable, is it possible to determine if a pin is broken, if so how? I hate to buy a new cable if not needed.
    Thanks again.

I wonder if you know the answer to my problem. I recently got a small Bush Smart TV to use as a monitor for my PC. I had to get a DVI to VGA converter cable, as my PC only has DVI ports and the TV has VGA. When I first plugged it in it worked fine. After a while (a day or two) the TV had to do a system update. After it had finished, it no longer works properly as a monitor. By that I mean the signal keeps cutting out. It will show the PC desktop for about 3-4 seconds, and then lose signal for about 3-4 seconds, and this just repeats continuously.
Any ideas/help you could provide would be awesome, as I've been looking online and I can't find anyone who's had the same problem.
    Cheers.

    • @Itcareerquestions
      @Itcareerquestions  9 років тому +6

Liean Dee What you can check for is the sound icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. If you right click on this icon and then click on Playback Devices under the Playback Devices tab you should see a few different options, the option you are looking for might simply say HDMI or TV, right-click on this icon and choose Set As Default Device.
That should work, but if it doesn't I would try another HDMI port on your TV or try another HDMI cord in general.
Let me know! I'm glad you found this video useful!

When I went into Personalize, then on Display...there wasn't a Multiple Display option to click on. Does that mean I can't use my TV as a monitor or that I will have to use the same settings of my computer ?

Very good video here- clear voice with easy to understand instructions. I do
have a question here for you. I have an HP laptop with only a VGA port, and
a Sony Bravia TV with a VGA port ( and 2 hdmi ports) In order to avoid buying
a converter from analogue( VGA ) TO digital ( on hdmi for TV) I think I should
just go VGA on my laptop to VGA on my TV - right ???
If I do this- you said something on this video that confuses me ??? You said
VGA ports will only relay "video" and NOT "audio." I'm sure your right, however
I've seen videos whereby they are going VGA ( laptop) to VGA ( on tv) and "also"
plugging in an "audio cable" from the laptop to the TV. Would this not prevent
someone from having to hook up the laptop to "separate speakers, as you say.
I would think if you hooked up an audio cable from your laptop to your TV -
wouldn't you then have the benefit of sound from your TV speakers. Can you
explain this ??? here, or send me an inmail ( personal) thanks-a great video.

I'm trying to use my 19" Vizio TV as a monitor for my desktop PC. HDMI to HDMI works great for a few minutes and then the tv goes into a mess off lines with colors. What is causing this?
