Dan Explains It All - Midi To Expression Translator

- In this video, Dan explains how the MTET changes the way a player can interact with OBNE pedals*. using MTET to translate MIDI CC's sent from a Morning Star MC6, Dan is able to change preset on the fly, in a manner not possible before by using MIDI CC mesages to change parameters via expression.
MTET is a simple device for complex workflows. It receives MIDI CC messages and turns them into expression outputs, allowing players to unlock MIDI control over their expression-enabled devices. Where once there was only a foot, now there is envelope control, LFO control, snapping to preset positions: any MIDI shape can express an OBNE (or similar) device.
MTET Features:
Four individual expression outputs
Expression compatibility with any TRS expression enabled device where tip is connected to wiper
CC control over LSB for 8-bit resolution from a 50K digipot
MIDI Thru jack for easy daisy chaining
9V DC power with low current draw
MTET is available at oldbloodnoise.com and at participating retailers worldwide.
This is why your my favourite pedal company. Everything you bring out fills a gap in creative possibilities. I'm thinking ya know it would be cool if I could do this or had a pedal that does this. And then your release it.
Fantastic - switching between “presets” within the expression range. I can do this with midi switching but there aren’t enough outs, this is perfect.
Because of Dan. I know a lot more about midi now
Awesome. This opens up so many possibilities. Love it
Wow game changer
Just ordered, first order of business is to make a midi clock syncing float by just sequencing the cc messages
Can you elaborate on this? Sounds awesome
I am going to do the same thing they did in the video with the tap tempo, but with a different midi device, probably my Elektron Digitakt
I can use the sequencer to sequence the mdi cc message connected to the lfos and they will be in sync with the rest of my devices also midi synced to my digitakt
Someone: thinks how cool and time-saving it would be if there was a way that they could do ____________.
OBNE: makes it happen.
Super dope, I can see myself sequencing my pedals with my DAW or Digitakt even!
When you send it on Channel 5 what does the MorningStar look like? Is it Press CC Number 100 and then press with CC Number 5? Or is it just CC Number 105? What is the CC Value? If you could send your settings that would be awesome. Thanks.
you're the best
Hi guys how are you? Hope everything is fine.
Just one question, do you know if the mtet works with the Walrus Audio Monument tremolo? (It has a exp out)
Thanks a lot!
Does it works on a fixed Midi channel or can this be specified?
I don't get it. If you already have the Morningstar MC8, which sends MIDI out of its omnijacks, and you have pedals that accept MIDI via their jack... why do you need this? For example, The Red Panda particle V2 will receive midi via its jack. Is this only useful for pedals that are simple IN / OUT then (pedals that do not send or receive MIDI at all)? Is that the point of this? Edit: OK, so on a second look what it's doing is translating MIDI to expression info, so you'd be sending that translated info to the expression jack of a NON MIDI pedal. You could have made that clearer, since most modern pedals already come with MIDI capable jacks. :).
does it work with Moog gear, like moogerfooger pedals?
Are the CC numbers and midi channel customizable? I'm thinking about the situation of using several MTETs for more than four pedals, all connected to a single midi controller.
Oh, and is there a way to reverse the polarity of the expression signal, so it can be compatible with almost any pedal? (would love to use this with my JPRT Super Weirdo!). If not, please give every expression out a polarity switch on a possible updated version (like the switch on the bottom of the Moog EP3).
I thought I was pretty hot on MIDI but this is rather complex.
I assume one has to setup the destination pedals so they actually respond to expression in a way that's useful first? That seemed to be omitted from the video.
I.e. how do i setup Dark Star so the expression input controls pitch?
I ❤ OBNE
This is all wild especially when all 4 of them were connected at the end, if not morning star controller can one control it through DAW or their computer through a USB midi cable?
Yeah anything that can send midi ccs. Soo mpc, elektron gear, daws via an adapter. You name it
@@ModernDevotion Thanks Adam! This is so awesome!! All the delays tempo sync’s mwahaha
Man, I love your products and Dan is one of my heroes but please for the love of god use RX mouth de-noise or de-click on Dan’s voice. It’s painful to listen.
heard (smack).
Too complicated for me. I’ll stick to analog effects I think.
This sweet gay voice.. and saving lighting for smaller electricity bills is also a good move. Cheers ❤❤
Atheism is foolish.
Besides manipulating expression via MIDI CC messages, can this be set to send just 2 CC values to turn on/off another effect remotely? Thanks…
