Tips on Tackling Root Bound Succulent Arrangement

- Do you ever look at an arrangement you put together and think, “hmmmm...?” This giant clam shell has been planted out for years now and it’s lost its luster. The succulent clam shell certainly didn’t look bad, but I knew I could make it look better. Plus, all of the cuttings I’ll take from deconstructing the shell can be put into my gutters and around the garden. Let me know if you learned anything new down in the comments or if you have any questions. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
I had a eureka moment when you said “There’s no point in watering plants that don’t have any roots. How are they supposed to intake it.” It was a succulent epiphany. Thank you!
I love your glasses!!!
I wish I could have some succulent like those one. 🥺 so colorful❣️
Hi ma'am, thankyou for the ideas. I'm from Philippines👋
How nice to watch you and your succulents, when it is snowing in Poland... Thanks and regards!
Crazy roots!!! Clam 🐚
Purple stem plant is most likely Othonna capensis a.k.a. 'Ruby Necklace'
Yes! Sometimes these look like they have mealies on them but they are not mealy bugs. I killed this plant with too much alcohol trying to get rid of the fungus/mildew/whoknowswhat that grows on it because I thought it was mealy bugs but I guess it’s a thing (www.reddit.com/r/succulents/comments/dcvb2a/ruby_necklace_issue_is_this_mildew_or_just_how/)
These get BEAUTIFUL and bright red when stressed. You’re gonna love it since I think you mentioned the side you put it on will get lots of sun :)
This is such a beautiful plant! It turns purple, it's really stunning! 😍
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the password. I love any tricks you can offer me
@Lewis Jake instablaster ;)
@Daxton Lukas i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Love😊 that u did a succulent rearrangement
You are the best.👍
More videos on revamping ur arrangement, its satisfying to watch 🥰🥰🥰
Looking better
Love the planter!
Ooooo. Yum, yum, yum. What a beautiful mass of succulents!
What a joy to watch!!
Thanks for sharing 🪴💚🪴💚🪴💚🪴💚🪴
Laura - This isn’t a criticism of how you’ve handled your clamshell planter - it’s gorgeous and done well for years so obv it’s working for you! But I have some experience w drilling drainage holes (and not drilling drainage holes haha) into planters of many materials I can perhaps share w you.
I bought a set of diamond edge drill bits for drilling holes from Amazon years ago and despite buying them lived in fear of them. I was terrified of ruining the favorite planters I bought them to drill holes into. But hole-less planters are only semi functional.....and eventually I got tired of babying them and wo-manned up and learned to use them and use them well.
As a fan of your channel (yours was the first channel I ever subbed to years ago though I’m not here to enjoy it as often anymore it holds a special place in my heart - and got me over my fear of succulents and helped me stop accidentally massacring them to boot! My yard is now more succulents than anything else and I’m proud of it 😁) I would be honored to be able to offer you a token of my appreciation back in some small way. I’m in central OC not far from you; I don’t know if you are ever this direction or not. I would be happy to teach you to use diamond drill bits via your virtual consult method should you happen to have your own bits currently. I would also be happy to gift you a set if you told me where to send them. Alternatively, if you were traveling through OC I would be happy to teach you in person sometime. Just message me back if this interests you - and zero offense taken if it doesn’t/life is too busy/that isn’t your thing/you never see this comment.
Best wishes.
That's one shell of an arrangement!! love.
I could watch you deconstruct and reconstruct succulent plantings all day long! Being in zone 6a means that I am gardening with you virtually and immensely enjoy all your videos no matter what time of year. For now, I do have windowsills and a long table at a south facing window (some lights for less than sunny days), with all my succulents. The Tillandsia really added some nice texture to the arrangement.
I agree. I have currently 3 degree weather. So I,m not doing anything in my garden. 🥶
Othonna capensis 'Ruby Necklace' is the name of the plant. This video was so satisfying to watch.
Yep I have 2 pots of that plant hanging on my porch .
Yes I have one too likes the shade but can go very red in full sun, loves water
It’s currently 27 degrees here in Michigan, and yes I am living vicariously thru this video. Thanks Laura, for letting me enjoy your repotting this arrangement. I will be doing a faux succulent wreath, after this video, for my front door. Just the inspiration I needed, to play with plants today.
The string succulent might be ruby necklace.
I didn’t realize how much I missed you until I had you back. You are my antidepressant, lady. Thank you for being so lovely.
I second that motion! Thank you from Rochester, NY - Zone 6 🪴🌦☃️
😊
Hi Laura that plant you were asking about is called "Ruby Necklace or String of Rubies" it's scientific name is Othonna Copensis and its an aggressive grower. I have some growing in sphagnum moss pocketed in a palm tree in my back yard. Thank you for the video! Awesome as always.
The one plant you ask the name of is a Othonna capensis ruby necklace succulent.
THE QUEEN HAS MADE HER RETURN!
Loved the video! By the way, is that a real shell? Where could I find shells like that??
So nice to have something to watch while it is snowing here in Texas!
Hope you and others are ok. Including the animals and insects. I am praying for all.
So much fun to watch you do your magic! I'm really enjoying trying my hand at redesigning areas of my yard. I started with pots. I really like my pots but I prefer in ground work . . . At least for now. 😊🌵
My succulents have small brown and spots and seem like the birds bit the leaves ? Any suggestions?
Laura: “Have you ever thrown a cutting off to the side and forgot about it?”
Me: No
😆😆😆
1 hour late! :( I think the purple plant is named Othonna capensis. A truly beautiful and crowded arrangement! The shell is so beautiful.
I love watching you work a new arrangement. I have learned so much from you over the years.
🤩
Loved this! Especially the length of it. So relaxing to watch! I hope you’ll do more like this😉
I really love what you do. Can you tell me where you got that clam shell? It's huge!!
Please tell.me what is the plant next to you in this video??????? It looks like a small tree..aloe maybe?? Next to the orange bucket...I love it!!!!!! Please tell me!!!!!
That plant you asked about the ID on is Ruby Necklace. They turn a gorgeous purple with lots of sun . I’ve seen them turn pink in pictures . I love them 🤗
Ruby necklace is the purple plant! Beautiful! 🥰🙏🏻
So her I sit, binge watching Laura Eubanks when suddenly a brand new vid pops up!!!!! This is awesome!
Ur spiller is ruby necklace but I don't remember the botanical name. It turns beautiful reddish colors when stressed. I'm sure u know by now anyway.
I love spending my lunchtime with your videos! You have such a gift for being so natural while you provide such good info that regular people can use! I’ve learned so much from you and mostly you’ve given me so much more confidence. Thank you, Laura.
Hey 👋 this is amazing! Would love to find the huge shell planter like that. What’s the huge blue tree behind you? Thanks 😊
What is that in the blue-ish pot next to you? It’s very interesting looking
I live in Memphis TN and it’s snowing right now. Wish I was in my home town in Martinez CA. Your lucky.
Depends, Gavin Newsome is destroying us.
I live in Riverview Florida. We are 9b and my succulents grow so many babies. I love arrangements. You are a good teacher. Your arrangement came out nice.
It's Always a pleasure to watch your videos 💚👍🔝✔
Thanks 💚💚💚
You're so energetic ....I love it!!!,❤️💪😍
What is the name of the plant on the far left with the blue/green foliage in the sage pot.
So glad you're back!! Thanks for all your inspiration!
I'm so glad your back. I enjoy your video's so much. Beautiful arrangement.
Hey Laura, where do you get your big rocks!??
It's Ruby Necklace with the purple stem. When given right amount of light it will turn dark purple and beautiful.
Watching you makes me realize I'm too gentle on my succulents lol.. you inspire me to worry less about hurting them because they're tougher than me
So beautiful! Can’t wait to do something like this. How do you know when there are roots and when to water for the first time?
Amazing to see you back at what we all adore 🥰😘😘😘😘😘
Loved this video, and yes you are supporting my need for gardening since I am in zone 4. Not much going on here yet. Thanks for your wonderful video !
Love this when you pulled this out I’m always so surprised at how resilient our succulents are... garden of death 😂😂😂 your awesome
Very nice, thank you for sharing.
Welcome back. This video was just what I needed to complete my Sunday.
🌵👍
The plant is call pigmyweeds./ othonna little pickles
Super lovely clam shell 🐚 Thanks Laura! 😘
Growing in zone 7 im barley starting to see some growth in my succulent seedling. They’ve been dormant for the past 2 months and now they finally have some new growth!
Stunning as usual !!!
Thank you so much for your videos :) Here in zone 4b all I can see outside is 2 feet of snow and the indoor plants aren't doing much so your videos fill my need for plant life
Thank you for uplifting us.....my garden/yard is covered with over a foot of snow. (Long Island NY)
After you harden off the cuttings and plant them in quick draining soil, do u water them even though they don't have roots or do I wait? I'm in zone 8 north Carolina. Thanks
Hello! If I live near you, maybe I will ask you to give me all the cuttings that you will throw in the garbage, they are all precious and most of the succulents now are more expensive 😊
😄😄"these plants have a way of figuring it out!"😄😄😊💓💓
Thrillers, spillers and___! I’ve forgotten what goes in the blank. Love the arrangement and your planting artistry
Fillers
Beautiful beautiful Laura❤️❤️❤️. I have 3 big (not as big as yours he he ) shells myself and I am thinking I might do like what you did. Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😘😘😘
I love the re worked clam shell Laura, it looks amazing!
Thank you so much. 🙏⭐️😘😍😍😍😍👏🏻🙏❤️⭐️⭐️😍😍🥰
Clam shell looks great now. Have a super day guys
That’s absolutely amazing and beautiful! I live in the LA area. Since it is now March 11, and more rain on the way, should I keep my new arrangement which is mostly “rootless” out of the danger of getting too wet. Thanks!
"GARDEN OF DEATH" I have one behind the green house next to the chook run 😊 oops chicken 🐔 run. it's amazing how things continue to grow there .
This is my favorite video of yours, and I don’t really know why. I just loved it 🥰
Your mystery plant is a String of Rubies I believe A wonderful succulent
Hi Laura! I have Tillandsia, but is it okay if I put it in full sun with the succulent arrangements?
Probably. Depends on how hot it gets in your climate😊
@@LauraEubanks I live in tropical area.. I live in Philippines..
Love how you pull it apart and make it beautiful again.🥰 I love the sound of the virtual consulting I have a small piece in my front garden that I would love some input I’ve been procrastinating what to do🤔🥰🤗
You’re the best Laura,love it ❤️❤️❤️
hi Laura, you are amazing! Enjoyed this video a lot . Question, when you cut off the top of a root bound succulent, you use the top in your arrangement, and I'm wondering what happens to the bottom part.... will it regrow? Do you stick that back in soil?
It beautiful! 🌵🌿🍀🌱🍃☘️🪴👩🏻🌾💚
Hi 😊 I'm a new succulent mom.
I was wondering. Once they have a small root system, how often do you need to water them.
I've always been told don't water very often but another UA-camr with a very nice succulent garden waters her babies every 3 days or so. Please help. I've spent a good bit on baby succulents and don't want to kill them 💕
The arrangement look very beautiful 😍 ❤ 💕 ♥. I love the different colors 😍 ❤
Do you break leaves reworking your arrangements? I find myself breaking leaves or leaves coming off frequently. And I try not to over water because I know that can make the leaves pop off.
love this video and all the sunny rays from CA! that clamshell is absolutely golden, nature is fantastic. I also love your hanging gutter planter on your fence and would love to try. but considering I live in Sweden I think my options of growing succulents outside are limited. great content!
Gonna go do some succulent shopping next week i hope.
Hello from Canada by the way.
-51 Celsius today. Thank you for letting me enjoy the process in a time where i can't.
All the love. :D
Beautiful arrangement! I’m 8b and our high temp today is 76 so I’m getting a little bit of gardening done :)
Yes as other said, thats a ruby necklace, easy to propagate to make more of them. Just like the string of pearls. They like water tho.
Hi Laura good morning hope you and your family have a wonderful Valentine's Day are plants do look amazing beautiful have a blessed day
So happy you are making videos again. a foot of snow in pnw. Won't be dry enough here to play with succulents for months. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them so much!
The plant your asking about is string of beans, its pretty hardy. I live in Australia and had it in a hanging planter before moving it to a planter box with it over hanging. I have two plants and they have both done well in the hot aussie summer getting the hot morning sun
11:01 is a Ruby Necklace sedum... please notice me @laura ... 😍
I am living through you since it was -26C here in Canada yesterday. I can only start seeds. Thanks for the videos, I love when you rework and cut up plants.
hope you dont mined, coz your so good when planting them even if they dont have roots yet,and they fresh from cutting, you always put them in soil,is it working?
Love watching you Laura, I learned a lot , thanks so much 🤩👍❤️
Laura that plants the you found in your backyard is a Ruby Necklace, good on hanging basket too turns purple in sun” othonna capensis”
I'm new to succulents and cactus. Will the naked stems propagate if you repot them?
The plant you were asking the name is called Purple Ruby necklace .
Hello Laura I have a question ❓ we’re can I get a beautiful huge shell like that ❓❓❓❓
Ruby necklace if you leave them direct sun they’ll turn red or burgundy it looks like grapes
Just in time! I have several “hot messes” to tackle myself. Great inspiration. Saludos desde Metepec, México.
Hola 👋🏽 es lindo encontrar alguien de México
