The AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code contains nearly 300 pages of requirements, many of which are directed toward the contractor and inspector. Some engineers think their task is complete when they have specified in the contract documents that D1.1 applies. Unfortunately, there is more that the engineer must do. For example, D1.1 contains options that are only applicable when specified by the Engineer. On other topics, the code directs the Engineer to “evaluate the suitability” of certain details. In some cases, the code is silent on an issue, defaulting to the contact documents to address the issue. In this webinar, provisions that are often overlooked by engineers are discussed along with the underlying principles that should be considered by the engineer when these issues are encountered.

I love how the, " all too often engineers assume", LOL. I've worked in engineering long enough to understand that the "engineer assumptions" are really the lack of communications and discussions of capabilities between engineering and fabrication.
You know what they say about assuming something? - It makes an ASS out of U and ME ;) lol NEVER assume something, always go see yourself. :-)
