Good luck with the test man. I’m a structural CWI, and most guys I bust out on overhead visual is due to the following things: 1) Welder doesn’t have sleeves. They can’t concentrate because they’re getting burned up. 2) They put their test plates too high. It might seem ok with a new rod, but as it melts they have to reach more and more and get off balance. I like to put mine at eye level and use my legs (knees) to adjust height as needed. 3) They use the same amperage settings as their vertical. Usually 10-20 amps more on overhead will help keep your beads laying flat instead of wanting to fall out. 4) Welder does not have a good place to lean/get comfortable. Freestanding while welding overhead is possible, but only if you do this on a regular basis. Get comfortable. Tack some angle on the tree or table to get a good elbow rest.
Useful info. Welding with 5/32 in overhead is tricky cuz they deposit much metal and you gotta hold that welding puddle somehow from falling on you. With 1/3 things are way easier
Hahahah I see the videos but I never welded pipe or a lot of things you do! I just enjoy seeing you get down & hook up people with valuable information! Shout out from San Diego California! I’m a structural shipfitter, stay up
When I take these tests here in Indiana I take a tomahawk chipping hammer, a half round file, a chisel, a flashlight, teeth cleaning hooks I buy from the dollar tree and a 4lbs sledgehammer. I took maybe about 10 of these D1.5 tests in my 25 years of welding and busted out on one so far.
Just a tip from someone who's done a lot of structural welding on overhead welds turn your machine up 5 or 10 amps higher then you would running a flat bead it hell smooth out the arc and it won't spray so much splatter
Good job I had a situation when I went to test for a tank company forgot my sleeves and what I did I got my stinger and electrode in a straight not like a L but like a l on my overhead thank God I don't get burned up just set the machine at like 130 on 1/8 and 150 on 5/32
I remember taking that vertical and overhead test back in 1993. 7018 all the way got it on my first try. Good old days. You passed it all it is is laying beads nothing to hard Hang in there ✌🏼
Hey bro.. love your videos... I have a welding/ fab shop in Alvin and I got hit up with that exact gate blueprint about a month ago.. that's actually the 3rd time they've tried to get me... Crazy... Scammers everywhere...keep up the great videos...
Good luck boss! Let me know when you head out to Austin. I got a welding shop here in Del Valle. Just purchased a 4x8 cnc plasma I need to put together.
NDT guy here getting ready to take my CWI test. D1.5 Bridge code is no joke dude. You will get hold points that are 24-72 hours before we can inspect them. Folks are really strict with the tolerances and they should be . Anyway you got this dude! Iam sure you will crush it. D1.1 doesn’t specify say you cant use power tools . So that one is a little easier if you take that one.
They tried to get me with that same gate scam I'm glad you didn't fall forward either and I'm almost to get your D15 results back as horrible everyone inMy company that there areWelders as there are D1. 5 we get results back in about a week or less. Be careful recording on bridges too a lot of UN specify no pictures or video
Haha bro I'm pretty sure that everyone that has any kind of welding business has gotten that same exact gate blueprint to quote. I got that same thing about a year ago 😂
Took both d1.1 and d1.5 3g and 4g I. Highschool biggest thing I remeber was having to run much hotter in 4g and getting really bad arc blow towards the end of each stringer in the 4g and having to spin the rod to get it to burn right
I suggest you learn to run NR 232 and NR 305 wire. Im a union welder and never worked a job that required a D 1.5 stick cert. I live in socal and L.A city/AWS testing is real strict on not allowing you to use grinders while testing but idk how it is in Texas. From how good your root passes look , your gonna pass.
Good luck bro hope you make this one the 1.5 is new to but guess what it's something I'll in my spare time I only got a lincoln 10000 plus ranger but whenever you guys talk of something like that I try it maybe one day I'll have to take a test like that who knows
All structural tests are mainly 3G and 4G. What surprised me about that test you took, its the 1 inch thick plates and 5/32 low hy. Hope you make test brother 🤙🏾
There are no rules or regulations about taking videos during a test. It's up to the owner of the private facility. Now if it was a state facility you absolutely can record.
That guy with the gate job is out trying to scam everyone.. I took my time to get him a quote even though it smelled fishy... was about to give my info and everything.. thankfully I was visiting a friends shop when he told me about the same gate job BUT he had a different name and number.. which made everything more suspicious .. a big lie lol. He keeps messaging me from different numbers and names even through emails. Last time he even try to recruite me . He say we could make good money lol.. Great videos. Great content like always!! Thank you for the inspiration . You make my gears turn inside my MT head
Whats the name of that Testing Lab? I been welding for over 15 year and tested all over. And I been to a few labs where they were straight up A holes, and I will pass up a job just because I refuse to test there again.
I’m a recent Del Mar college welding associates graduate, I like to advice to get a first job in welding I been a welder helper before and a helper multi craft for bay ltd I’m Corpus Christi, as usual no one hires unless you have proof of welding experience college is not considered, also a lot of wire flux core jobs are hiring around Corpus Christi 361 area I havnt learned flux core only TIG and stick pipe and plate welding positions and some stainless pipe

You're doing amazing work brobro keep that good work up
I keep a sawz all blade in my back pocket to help get the wagon tracks out when I can’t use a grinder typically on 7018 but it works on with most rods
Outstanding, WeldLab is the best...cheers from Orlando, Florida, Paul
Never heard of a bend test for this cert, in NY we get our plates X-rayed for D1.5

I got the same print for that damn gate. I told them I would do it for less than anyone else, if they send me a money order first.
I did the same test in college I did an over head one and a open root 1inch, they take foreverrrr

Yessir same thing
A1 videos bro. Keep it up pri 💪
Almost 30k subs let's go boiii!!
Make a video on how you do your quotes
We have to do a stainless test. 11/2 plate overhead and uphand. You wanna talk getting burnt up. That flux be popping like popcorn.
I already know ! One time a big chuck of flux core stainless fell in my boot when I was on a ladder welding over head …left a big hole
Can someone explain the actual problem with recording?
That bend test always give me anxiety bro
That's easy test you got it
Why you ain’t get content at the bridge job fam?
This maybe a stupid question. But are you wearing a pager? Or is it something for AQI testing? Keep up the great work

What amperage do you recommend for the test?
Are they needing more welders
Did they pass?

Overhead is much easier than vert
I’ll have to disagree with that lol
