      Since this video I have replaced my tailgate. (Bone head move on my part. I forgot to latch my trailer hitch to the ball and drove my lawn mower onto the trailer. Sure you can figure out the rest!).
      Anyway, I haven't replaced the the Dee Zee yet on the new tailgate because on my old one it seemed to stress the metal where it attaches to the tailgate and I don't want that to happen on the new one. I bet a second Dee Zee on the pass side would help relieve that stress. Good thought!
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

    You have had this installed for about 1.5 years.... How do you like it now? Have you noticed if the mounting posts have bent at all?

    • @DieselMike
      @DieselMike  4 роки тому +3

      Derek Riedel the mounting post itself has not bent. But the metal itself in the tailgate has. These SuperDuty tailgates with the integrated step are very heavy. If you could somehow sandwich a larger washer in the mounting post that may help. Another suggestion is when you lower the tailgate don’t just let it go. Keep your hand in it and control the decent as you not let the mounting post bear the whole weight.

      @@DieselMike ok thanks. I don't like the thought of just letting it drop anyways, but I will see what I can do to make it hopefully not bend anything when I do my install. Thanks again

    What truck is this done on? I just did it on my 15 f25p and it goes down slow like it's supposed to. Much slower than this one

      This is an '08 F-250 - Tailgate has the integrated step which makes it's an extra heavy beast of a tailgate. I have removed the integrated step in the past for maintenance. It adds a significant amount of mass to the tailgate. Perhaps that's why it appears fast. I am considering adding another to the right side as well.

      @@DieselMike mine also has the integrated step. That's so weird.

      I know this is an old video but I was wondering if it made a difference in slowing the tailgate down after you reversed the shock? I saw in the video during the drop test that the shock wasn’t mounted correctly yet

    Can 2 be installed? One each side and really slow it down

      That's a great question and one I considered doing on mine. This truck has a very heavy tailgate and I feel it could benefit from a little more resistance. One problem I have heard with installing a second on the right hand side is; When you remove a tailgate from a truck, the slit on the hinge is on the right hand side. Meaning that is how you lift a tailgate off the truck. If you have too much upward resistance on the right hand side as the tailgate is lowering, the right side can pop out of the hinge. I am not convinced that this little piston have the power to pull up on the hinge. I believe a second one would indeed work if the gate is heavy enough.

      Ya mine is heavy as hell...but I've seen a theft deterrent video where they used a Standard screw type hose clamp around the slotted hinge that would probly prevent what your saying could happen also

      09 f250 superduty with pull out step and handle...I love the feature buy you get a pull a groin muscle trying to open and catch the gate with one hand

      Yes. That set up work well on these heavy tailgates. If the tailgate is too light however, it will cause the right side to pop out of it's hinge.
