Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2019 Ford F-350, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the DeeZee Tailgate Assist Lowering System. So tailgates can be a little bit cumbersome to handle especially in our customer's case when he has an aftermarket ladder installed. And those days where it's rainy, everything might be a little slick. Without the assist, those tailgates can really just come slamming down. And that's something you don't want to happen, obviously. And that's where the assist is going to come into play.
What it's going to do is whenever you lower the tailgate, even with that heavy ladder installed on this one, feel that go. It's going to make it way more manageable and pretty much lower the tailgate for you. And it can also make loading and unloading luggage or anything you're putting in the back of your bed a little bit easier. And what I mean by that is say, you're holding kind of an awkward item like this, and usually you got to take your tailgate down and you're going to have to kind of guide it all the way down so it doesn't slam while keeping control of the item that you have in your arms. Well, with the assist, you can take it and you don't have to think about it. You just hit the handle, it comes down for you, you can put both hands back on what you're carrying and inside of your bed.So it's really simple how this is going to work.
It's just a shock absorber, more or less. It's going to be connected to a ball up here and one at the bottom. And whenever you lower the tailgate, the shock is going to have some resistance in it. And that's what's really going to help slow that tailgate down.So overall, this is a quick and easy way to be able to have that tailgate assist without having to get the truck with the highest trim package available. Now, as far as the installation goes, it's really easy.
There's no drilling or anything crazy like that required. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and put it on together now.To begin our installation, we're going to lower our truck's tailgate and we're going to be working on the driver's side. If you look right here, there's going to be two nuts and we're going to have to remove this top one completely. And we're going to loosen this bottom one up about halfway. So I grab a 10 millimeter to get this one pulled out and the bottom one loosened.
So about like that should be more than enough. We can grab this plate and this notch part here, that's going to slide behind the head of that bolt that we loosened. Sometimes that washer can get a little hung up from the paint. There we go. But that's going to slide down under the head of that bolt. And we're going to take this hex head bolt that comes included and use this in place of that factory bolt.I'll line it up. I like to get this one kind of started hand tight. Kind of try to line this up as straight as we can. I find that this top edge here, if you can try to keep it even along this edge, that usually gets us pretty close right where we need to be. All right. That's kind of sitting in place. Go ahead, tighten our 10 back down. Get that bolt nice and snug.Come back with an Allen key and snug our new bolt down. So now what we're going to do, if we move up to where our cable attaches up top here, we're going to get our cable off. So if you just put a little pressure up on the tailgate and slide that forward, we're just going to kind of let it hang for now.And what we're going to do is pull this anchor out. It uses a T50 Torx bit. The kit actually comes with the tool and it is relatively tight, so be careful. It can be a little tricky with this handheld tool. If you do have a socket-style, I would probably recommend using that, but this will do the job. So we're going to back this completely out.So once we pull us out for going to grab this other mounting plate, we'll take our bolt, run it through that hole. And we're just going to put this back in and tighten it down. So the kit comes in with the big Mylar sheet and what you're going to do is cut it in half. And we're going to put this on the body of our vehicle. That way it helps prevent our components from rubbing together. So the first area we're going to do is just behind this latch or this cable here towards the very back of our truck. I clean the surface off with some rubbing alcohol, that way this will stick nice and good. I'll put that in place and I'll just stick it to our tailgate. And I went ahead and put our other half of our Mylar right here.So we grab our shock and what I went ahead and did is this take som

My bolt that the tailgate wire hangs on will not remove the inner bolt spins but won’t turn the hole assembly

You may try taking the rear tail light out and looking inside to see what is going on. The rivet nut may be loose.
