Cool. I never thought of installing a second one. I just installed one on my truck about 2 weeks ago. I don't think I need another one it goes down pretty slow. I saw a couple of videos on here with people having trouble after the install because they are bending the attachment in the tailgate after repeated use. you have me thinking about installing a second one now just because I figure it will be less stress on the single one. After it breaks in it might speed up a little bit anyway. I just want to minimize the possibility of mind-bending or at least extend the life. I'm going to get another one
Man I actually really like your videos man they are awesome! Even though I've been a Chevy fan most of my life I can't wait to see what this F350 looks like when youre done and what you plan on doing with it haha
@@FixItNick Awesome I can't wait! I just wish I was more able to do stuff like that 6" lift you did but I'm just always so worried when I have to start cutting stuff lol
Austin Black trust me I was worried too, but after calling places for a quote I didn’t wanna throw away $1000-$1500 and actually take my time doing it and know I’ll prob do a better job than bob at the shop
I put 2 on my 2018 Silverado but the shock on the right wants to make tailgate come off the round pivot hinge in the spot where you could pull back to remove your tailgate. I had to put a hose clamp around it to avoid the tailgate from sliding out of the hinge
Nice little things which makes your life a little bit easier... With the second shock you propably expand the lifetime until it wears down at least four times.
I think I will buy 2. I originally thought the single one seemed a little weak for how heavy these gates are. It will be nice to just unlatch it and forget it.The double setup seemed much more similar to what you see with the modern day ford assist gates.
What size / what tool did you use to take off the bolt for the tail gate, it looks like an Allen key bolt. I’m having a hard time finding a socket to fit that bolt on the tail gate. Please help.
I was actually thinking about this, I was gonna get some red ones for my ram, I saw you were only supposed to use 1 and then thought it looked stupid so I’m debating buying 2 now 😂
Hey man love the videos I just found your Channel while browsing through my main page I ended up binge watching all the 7.3 videos I hope in the future you throw a exhaust on it and then guages to monitor important things
Thank you really appreciate it, I have a few things lined up for her, gonna treat her right. 4" straight pipes, tuner, 2" level kit, fully detailing engine bay, few engine upgrades, then planning to do 2015 front swap and interior swap this will be a long project of things to come
Yea don't worry she is going there, tails and tailgate and will do 2015 front conversion, but first thing is first, wanna strip engine bay and clean up the best I can to catch any new leaks
JC... That f350 would look even better on the road to other drivers if those rear tires weren't sticking out there hurling stones at their windshields. Changing the taillights means changing the bed and probably the bed mounts and the tailgate. May as well just buy a newer truck.
Nick, the Noisy Cricket was the first weapon Will Smith used in "Men in Black". Powerful little thing. My feeble at cultural relativity failed miserably. 😏
FixItNick your channel actually pushed me to buy my first salvage to rebuild I need a eco daily so I started bidding on a 2011 focus my bid is at 1200 so far I'm the highest they usually hit around 2300 so fingers crossed
My shock is expiring. It leaks and pops off the tailgate ball socket. I haven't done an exhaustive search for a replacement strut, but what I've found isn't cost effective. Dee Zee doesn't seem to sell replacement parts. I'll probably just get another kit. Double up? Never thought about that.
@@FixItNick , I didn't find a replacement shock, but I did purchase a replacement tailgate assist from Amazon. The replacement sure seems to be an exact duplicate of the Dee Zee but at half the cost. So I bought two and doubled them up as you did. Whether it needs it or not, it can't hurt. Advantage is if one fails I have a back up. I could not tell a difference in the open rate between one and two kids. We all hate it when our tailgates fall open. Good idea you had there. 👍
Have you had any issues with the tailgate coming off the hinge point ? Deezee doesn't recommend putting 2 shocks because they say the tailgate will come off the hinge point.
@@benwilliams1826 I actually ended up putting a stainless steel hose clamp around the hinge point/ round pin of the tailgate and that keeps it from popping off.
I would think that a second strut would place less stress on both struts but I'm not and engineer. I have an extra strut courtesy of an eBay seller error refund. I think I will just keep it in my F150 parts box in case the first strut fails.
sense this is your newest vid. you should get your truck into a alignment shop for the rear axle. with duels any out of alignment issues will really mess up your tires, your sway bar may be damaged also from the issues you first had. I know because i have been a semi driver involved in a accident where the drives got knocked out of the alignment from a high speed impact from a auto under the influence traveling the wrong way on a highway. Nice truck. in regards to the little smoke on the exhaust. check out hot shot secret products. can be found at many truck stops. remember it's a 2001 so you don't have all the emissions crap on that rig so you might get smoke from the exhaust. if it's a 2000 motor i doubt you have egr on it also. you have a 1,000,000 mile truck there.
Thx bro, yea so far I love this thing, alignment shop will tell me, I'm guessing 1/4 off on driver side. Sway bar link is broken off also, but that no biggy
I got a cheap one on eBay an it works like crap, also my tailgate is heavy bc of the ladder, I’m considering a second one even though they all say driver side only. I saw your shock pics up a lot earlier on the drop then mine, what brand are you using, would you mind sending the link? Thanks a lot
I've seen a spring-loaded rod that goes from one side of the tailgate to the other side and you have to drill holes into your tailgate or your bed and it actually assists on lifting the tailgate to make it lighter but you have to drill holes
Installed 2 just like this on my 2014 F250. Did absolutely nothing to dampen, and it lifted right side right out of the factory mount. I recommend to buy the oem factory part from ford. Waste of time and money!!!!
Shit dude I have a 2015 tailgate with the step in it HEAVY AS F***, stupid heavy, I put two shocks on it and the right side of tail gate keeps popping out of its groove..pisses me the f*** off!!!, probably going to end up having to drill another hole so I can move shock back slightly

Did you have to drill out the hole on the passenger side? My 03 f250 has a smaller hole on passenger side of tailgate than the drivers side.

Yea dual looks cooler and slower and less stress on just one shock
yes, yes. I like it, very convincing title too!
Thank you
Looks like it works great with two! Nice video, I think this has convinced me to spend more money!
Thx lol gonna buy 2? I think one is fine, 2 is just slightly slower

Well I'm happy with 2, but as long as I'm not making people buy 2 for no reason lol I just personally like it more
Need more 7.3 powerstroke content! I subbed for the 7.3... keep it up!
I promise!! Have lots lined up for her she will be sweet
Do these shocks help at all with CLOSING the tailgate?
Keep up the good work man 👍👍

Can you tell me what the specs or what the part number is for the shock? I'm trying to engineer it such that it pulls instead of pushes.

I need one of those noisy crickets you used to remove the tail light and to install the shovk mount on the tailgate. 😁

Does they assist in lifting the gate?

I would double up, put hose clamp on passenger side, maybe email them see if they can send you replacements if you buy second one

Yes I thought the same
Have you had any issues with the tailgate coming off the hinge point ?

When you added the tailgate assist to the passenger side did you have to enlarge the hole on the tailgate?
I think the 05 and up need this

These work good on my truck the 01 f350 tailgate is crazy heavy
It works for a 97 f-150 tailgate?
Yes the have kits that will work, I put links in description
FixItNick thank you
what do you do when the nutsert bends and strips?
It hasn’t yet
Why is there no dually fenders on the truck
It's a project I got it this way, trying to fix it ua-cam.com/video/Imtp0opDkjI/v-deo.html
What about lifting the tailgate up, any assist?
They don’t have anything nope
Does it also assist you in the lift of the tailgate?
Robert Livingston No, just down
How how difficult is it to put back up my problem is is the tailgate is too heavy to pick up
It does help lifting up, only lowers slowly, I was there was something to help tail gates up
I've seen a spring-loaded rod that goes from one side of the tailgate to the other side and you have to drill holes into your tailgate or your bed and it actually assists on lifting the tailgate to make it lighter but you have to drill holes
Any idea what it was called? Probably needs to be some crazy strong spring
@@FixItNick torsion bar inside the tailgate, it’s on newer trucks but it only helps.

Hose clamp on the right side takes care of the lift and slows down a would be thief.
I installed a single on my truck, and it broke after about a year of use.
I could see that happening these gates are 60lbs. I’m glad I did 2 on my
