Let me tell you, Hands down THE most helpful video I have ever watched. You were so easy to follow, down to earth w/out all the technical lingo, didn't talk to fast, & showed EVERY step. And even explained why! I'm still in awe about the reasoning for washing the lint trap & how the fabric softener builds up & can block flow. Nobody has ever mentioned that to me.
You should know that you just saved my 84 yr old mother from having to buy a new dryer. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

You saved my dryer! The grille with the holes at about 10:38 was completely smothered in a mat of lint more than an inch thick.
But that wasn't why I had to disassemble. Pro tip: don't store a pile of markers on top of the dryer and then lose one down the lint screen slot.
    All better. Thank you!

As a single mother, I can not afford to hire someone to service my dryer. So, I came across your video, and even though the lint was not the reason behind my dryer not working, I figured, since I had it apart already, it wouldn't hurt to clean that out too. Turns out that this (used) dryer was SOOOOO Clogged with I don't know what.... including a pencil (go figure), that I can't believe I didn't have a fire! The bottom hole where everything settles was completely blocked! So, thank you so much for this video. I would never have known to clean this out, so thank you!!!! I hoping to find the reason behind no heat! Hopefully your other videos can help me with that! Wish me luck! Thank you so much!!!! Glad this video was easy to follow along!

Deanna Davis, Probably the exact same thing happened to my drier the other day. The lint blocked the wheel from turning as well and as a result it blew its high temperature safety thermostat that's at the top of my long heating element. The video I saw that walked me through testing all the different parts with a Ohms Meter said if the safety thermostat blows to go ahead and replace the lower operating thermostat also because it could have been damaged. My local appliance parts store sells them as a combo package. Good luck!

I've been troubleshooting and repairing my old Sears Kenmore gas dryer for almost 25 years now and I found that the burner valve solenoid coils can become weak over time. When this occurs there is not enough magnetism generated to hold the valve open and it will shut off. Just recently I had the flame ignite, burn for about a half minute, then shut off. I suspected the solenoid coils again; however, I had just replaced these only about five years ago. Turns out that the exhaust vent was completely blocked at the louvers outside the house. I removed the wad from the vent and now my dryer is back in service. Thank God I found this blockage and thanks to the manufacturer designed this machine to have temperature sensors in the dryers internal exhaust duct to monitor the temperature and shut down the machine if they sense a temperature above normal. We typically clean the lint screen; however, I had recently threw a bunch of burlap into the dryer after having washed it and I never experienced more of a mess than what this material made. I cleaned the lint screen and the next time I ran the dryer with normal fabrics in it is when the trouble began. A word of advise: don't run burlap in your machines. If you have the flame got out after a a short time, first check your vent for clogs as I had. You'll save a lot of time and money if that is the root of the problem.

This just saved me a lot of money. Our 15 yo Kenmore need 3 cycles to dry a load. I cleaned the duct work to the outside but it didn't seem to make much difference. Was looking at a replacement when I found your vid. Followed your steps and discovered a completely plugged housing. Start to finish less than an hour. Thank you so much!

This was very helpful to me. After removing the back I found I had a build up of lint in the chute and clumped lint in blower fan. Cleaning this out fixed the vibration problem but I still had a thump-thump each rotation of the drum. Taking apart the front, I discovered a small amount of compressed lint in the roller groove which hit each roller every rotation. I scraped it out with a butter knife and reassembled. Thumping is now gone and unit runs smoothly. Thank you for this video as it gave me the confidence to disassemble my dryer and save an expensive service call.

Thank you so much for the vid on clearing the lint out of my 23 y/o Whirlpool dryer! I appreciated your discussion of reasons for the dryer taking so much longer to dry the clothes and decided lint buildup might be the problem. It was very easy for this 60+ y/o lady to follow your instructions and clear out the packed lint at the bottom of the lint trap. Given the age of my dryer, the lint trap housing foam seal just kind of broke apart and fell off when I removed the housing. The condition of the foam seal around the blower housing wasn't much better (dry and compressed). After a brief search online for my model's parts, I found the necessary replacement part names and where to order. I'm fortunate where I live to have an appliance parts store near by and was able to pick them both up for just under $20. I dried a load of clothes last night and drying time was back to normal!! Thanks again!

Omgoodness thank you for this tutorial! I was loading my dryer with a blanket and then remembered to clean out my lint trap and when I pulled the lint trap out, the lint fell back down the shoot!
I tried to stick a wire hanger (that I fashioned into a hook )down to pull it up but no cigar 😢. So I googled and came across your vid.
All I can say is thank you for breaking it down because I didnt know what to do besides calling whirlpool. But I got my handy-dandy Ikea tool kit, and pulled my dryer forward out of the laundry 7:35 closet and followed you step by step so I could get into the lint container.
My dryer is new so the only thing that needed cleaning was to get the sheet of lint out of the metal shoot! Took me an hour because I was more afraid of loosing all the screws lol!! So i put them in a cup. And Joila! Everything is put back together and my blanket is now drying!! Thank you so much!

This was a VERY GOOD explanation of dryer maintenance. I've cleaned gas dryers with the lint catch located at bottom of opening for loading clothes. When my neighbor was throwing out a dryer like you worked on, but gas, I grabbed it to take apart. Was a good learning experience. I would use a length of rubber hose, 3/4 inch car heater hose to reach into dryer to vacuum it out, this worked well for periodic maintenance. One should ALWAYS clean lint trap after each use.

Thanks -- fantastic video. My dryer stopped working the other day -- turns out it was a blown thermal fuse. Unlike many other videos on this subject, you show how to really clean the back of the dryer. To others, I would also add this: I bought one of those brushes for cleaning out the vent -- the problem, however, was that there was so much lint in there (I'm lucky I didn't have a fire) that the brush simply kept pushing it up. So I took the blower off my shop vac, attached the tubes that I use for blowing leaves, and went outside to the vent opening and blew the air back into the house. Well, I could have upholstered a couch with the amount of lint I got out of there! So if you have a blown thermal fuse, REALLY REALLY make sure that vent is open and clear.

Great vid helped me gut out this whirlpool dryer, clean it right out to like new. One of the drum roller wheels was jammed and to my surprise it was full of long hair, the other one was also, I popped them off and with some tweezers got every last strand of hair out. Actually long hair is in the built in vac and seems to show up all over the house and its not from a shaggy dog. We have long haired females in the house, I showed them what happened and they will be more diligent with the hairbrush. I've barely gotten into this but I'm really glad to have found it. I already know my issue. LINT...and a lot of it. Some torn items went in that I stupidly wanted to salvage...so the dryer (and washer) kind of get rid of all of the excess and leave the main parts intact. Problem is I definitely had too much excess/ shredded stuff coming off in there. Hopefully this will help me to clean it myself...or I'll know exactly what to request of my service guy. Thank you for your video. Again...barely into it but I appreciate how thoroughly your explaining things right off the bat 👍

Thank you! Great video. I have never attempted to work on a dryer. I think I can clean the lint out!

That's a lot of debris! I always tell my family to empty pockets before tossing laundry. Have a wire vent brush, mask and vacuum ready for clean up. I thoroughly cleaned mine after 16 years. Man, half of the duct is covered. Scary fire hazard. Nice video.

Cool video...the old me would think "if dryer is taking 2 hrs to dry my stuff, then it's time for a new dryer.". New me thinks "I (think) I can fix it". I'll see if I need to replace my thermostat when I open it up.

I’ve been fixing things since I was a kid. Still doing it in my 60s. However, with UA-cam, it is way, way easier to get info. When I first fixed a burned out over limit fuse on my dryer, I had to mail away to the manufacturer for the tech manual !!! Much easier now. 😂. Best wishes in your future endeavors!

I'm watching this while at work and it's making me anxious lol I rent and have a used dryer and I'm sure it wasn't cleaned before we moved in 9 months ago. I need to go home and clean it immediately lmao
