    I don't like many how to videos because they seem rigid and unwatchable, but your video is fun, informative, and downright hilarious. My dad is my handyman but since getting brain cancer, he hasn't been able to help me on a lot of things. Thanks for making a helpful video that had a lot of "dad" humor.

    Thank you very much. I'm a single mom, and I stupidly was forgetting to empty my dryer vent. LOL(I'm so used to it being in the front). I was complaining to my eldest brother that my dryer is broken it's taking 2 hours to dry my clothes & 3 for towels. He said he was gonna come over and fix it for me. Anyways I took the detergent bottles and clothes hangers off the dryer and I see the lint vent on top 😂 Right away I though OMG I'm soo stupid and I pull the lint thing out and it was jammed packed. I took a picture of how big the lint blob was &sent the picture to my brother, he had a good laugh. 😂 as did I. But even after I emptied it, it was still taking long to dry. I had to pull the dryer out myself and investigate. It was a little packed but I did the best I can sticking my hand in the pipe and inside the back of the dryer crying cuz I was scared a bug might bite me. There's still lint way up there 😞 I did what I could..
    Because I pulled the dryer out & took the pipe off I couldnt put the pipes back togther. I had a cpl guys do that for me when I 1st bought it(familymembers).. so cuz I couldn't put the pipes togther,
    I got myself that foil pipe/vent thing.. I realised scissors wouldn't cut the wire of that foil vent/pipe thing. So I had to buy what I thought would have to be plyers(I was wrong! I needed wire cutters😂) so I bought my wire cutters and bought that foil tape and put it all togther myself. Which I realised wasnt hard at all after finishing up. But .y dryer still isnt in tip top shape. Its only been a year since I bought it. So now after watching this its probably lint stuck in the lint trap on top the dryer. Now I know how to clean that part.. So thank you sir!!

    Lint filter clean out with the brush is great; however, a shop vac or vacuum with a flexible hose should be used also. If you just brush the lint it can damage the blower motor especially if there is a large amount of lint. It gets stuck in the trap and builds up. Plus many dryers have an access panel to allow you to get to the lint trap inside the dryer including the one you worked on. Great video. Will help many people keep the dryer working better and prevent fires.

    Fortunately my fear of dying in a fire has stopped me from ever forgetting to empty the easy access lint filter, but my dryer still needed some cleaning. I deep cleaned this monster. I didn’t want to buy any brushes, so I used some airflow tools to clean out the various parts of the lint-way (the path the linty air takes). I used a plug in leaf blower and a shop vacuum. Whew, this boy was dirty, and I am sure my 50 minute dry time will shrink down to 30 now that I am done. Thanks for the clarification on how deep to go and how to do it!

    I've been troubleshooting and repairing my old Sears Kenmore gas dryer for almost 25 years now and I found that the burner valve solenoid coils can become weak over time. When this occurs there is not enough magnetism generated to hold the valve open and it will shut off. Just recently I had the flame ignite, burn for about a half minute, then shut off. I suspected the solenoid coils again; however, I had just replaced these only about five years ago. Turns out that the exhaust vent was completely blocked at the louvers outside the house. I removed the wad from the vent and now my dryer is back in service. Thank God I found this blockage and thanks to the manufacturer designed this machine to have temperature sensors in the dryers internal exhaust duct to monitor the temperature and shut down the machine if they sense a temperature above normal. We typically clean the lint screen; however, I had recently threw a bunch of burlap into the dryer after having washed it and I never experienced more of a mess than what this material made. I cleaned the lint screen and the next time I ran the dryer with normal fabrics in it is when the trouble began. A word of advise: don't run burlap in your machines. If you have the flame got out after a a short time, first check your vent for clogs as I had. You'll save a lot of time and money if that is the root of the problem.

    I just got done cleaning my dryer vent. I purchased a 20 foot dryer cleaning brush which screws together in 2 foot sections and is very flexible and durable. You can use it manually or with a drill to spin the brush clockwise. The best way to do it is to insert the brush and go back and forth with it in small sections and then keep adding an extension until you reach your final destination which is the exit to the outside. Spinning the brush with the drill worked great and cleaned the hell out the vent even around the bends. It was practically brand new.

    • @ChuckD59

      Pro Tip: put some duct tape around the joints of the brush extensions so you don't accidentally unscrew it while it's inside the vent. Could be costly to retrieve it!

    My flex tube is only about 3’ long, so I’m more inclined to just but new tubing and clean out the other area with things I already have. I’m sure that a short run of vent tubing is cheaper to buy than the tools. Maybe not, as I haven’t priced them. This is a must do chore in the fall.

    Just finished watching a video on cleaning my brand of dryer -- you had to take the whole thing apart first!! Thank you for this one as it makes more sense to me when lint buildup has to be removed. the vent piping to the exterior may be a bit trickier as it goes down through the floor then across and out the other side of the house. HOwever, there is an access (with flaps) on the outside that we do clean off a couple of times a year. It makes me wonder after seeing your video how much more lint is in the rest of the exhaust pipe!

    HI, very informative video! What if I've tried all of the suggestions, and the pipes and dryer are spotless, but condensation is building up right at the dryer vent where it meets the foil pipe attachment? This is a new dryer, I replaced the last one due to this problem, only finding out it wasn't the dryer at all! It takes so long to dry our clothes!! If I take off the duct, the dryer will perform perfectly!!! Although we know that I can't leave it this way. Any suggestions? We have lived in this house 15 years, and never had any trouble in regards to this vent system. There is only a foot and a half between the dryer and wall, and the pipe goes directly in, doesn't even have to make a turn. Thanks for any suggestions!

    When u get done with the brush in the front, at the lint screen, dont turn the dryer on and force all that possibly damaging "stuff" thru the squirrel cage. Get your shop vac out and a piece of 1/2" PVC or 3/4" cpvc to use as a "skinny" extension to suck it all out the front. Works great and costs notta. . . Seen pennies destroy a squirrel cage "blower wheel". . .dont chance anything being in there that u dislodge in the "stuff."

    Eric, The other reason people need to reminded to regularly clean out their dryers is FIRE. Lint is exceptionally sticky. Add the humidity of the dryer, the weather to the outside and the fact these flexible hoses aren't smooth inside and it's an accident waiting to happen. We clean ours out every 6 month-ish, but it depends on how much you use it. We also use a shop vac to suck up the lint right behind the brush. Also people need to be reminded (nagged) to "Clean the lint filter in front out EVERY TIME."

    Just recently I learned why much of the lint in a Kenmore Dryer we owned for over 20 years stacked up at the wall vent flapper opening. The screen you hold up at 1:00 is a piece of junk, bad design. It does not stop all the lint and much of it goes beyond the filter into the pipe etc... Yours does look different. Ours has a flimsy felt gasket around the perimeter and it is worthless. Not much one can do about it because it slides down into the slot. We have a Speed Queen Dryer for sometime now but put the Kenmore in another house. The Speed Queen piping is always clean and the filter fits tight in it and I rarely need to address the pipe or wall opening for lint. Now that I see your filter, maybe I'll look for a replacement. Thanks for the video.

    You dont really need one of those brush cleaners. I use a good electric blower, disconnect the dryer vent, put the blower inside, stuff an old shirt to help seal, and blow. I've found it cleans it really well.

    • @johnwapenski5457
      @johnwapenski5457 5 років тому +2

      Actually the wet damp lint will stick to the inside of the vent tube. You need to mechanically scrub it off with a spinning vent brush you use with a drill and you connect 2-3 ft long sections together as you need. Blowing only gets the very loose lint out. I repair appliances full time and I clean about 29 dryers and vents a week. This video does not show you need to open the dryer up and clean around the burner too

    I'd suggest not shoving the cleaning stick in the back of dryer like that your shoving it in on your heating coil and can cause damage to the coil if your not careful. On certain models the coil is located at the bottom back of the dryer. Myself I wouldn't shove the tool in the back vent of the dryer itself. Putting the tool through hose is fine. A vacuum cleaner works great !!

    • @michaelbagwell3485
      @michaelbagwell3485 3 роки тому

      The heating coil is on the air intake duct, not the exhaust duct. There is a fan impeller wheel that needs to be inspected for lint that is in the exhaust duct. Remember tape the joints and no screws that will catch lint.

    Over the years, I found that the dryer is full of dirt from the lint filter, not just lint. Like it got a pile of sand in it. The front was removed and the dryer shop vacced out. Then a new flex pipe was attached to a freshly applied outside vent flap after five or so years. Those flex pipes cost about the same as the brush to clean them, and the house wasn't filled with the mess of cleaning it. Does your dryer have an access panel?

    If you take the lint, put it in an egg carton, with some wax, you can make a great fire starter wads.

      not sure what you're saying...are you joking or serious? what are 'fire starter wads'? Are you speaking of logs for a fireplace?
