got mine on the way with a 46 lb pull. Excited to get it.
This is sick. Gone two seasons now rowing myself and want to upgrade, I have the same model.
Very good video. Liked and subbed. Just got a Pontoon boat. Going to Copy your Motor mount for sure. Thanks for video
Glad it was helpful!
You are dead on target. I made a mistake with the short shaft ended up getting a longer shaft. I have the Colorado classic. Appreciate it brother looking forward to more videos👊👍👍💯🏕
What is the minimum shaft length?
Got the endurance max Minn Kota...The adjustable shaft works great. Spent big money and got a 100AH Lithium battery , because Minn recommended it , not really needed, But bought the battery new and the guy said it was charged and may just need to be topped off, I didnt. Went and used it over two full days, checked the meter...Still showing completely full. you MUST center the motor, or you play the left right left right game. Get the fin that attaches to the shaft it does help. I need to try out the seat steering hack as the extended handle and trying to control has you in one hell of an awkward position .
instead of seat steering, you can hook up a couple of pullies and a push/pull stick steering system, kind of like an emergency brake handle...
Have you thought of cutting the board down or flipping the board around, the motor mount would sit on metal frame and wood would be lower. I think that would give you at least a couple inches more motor in water depth.
What a knob.
Haha seriously, should of used a 2x12
Mounted mine up front and turn the handle around. PVC slid over the footrests so it still breakdown.
You have to move the seat back further for shorter shaft motors
I have the short shaft and mounted mine the same way as you did, in the center. One thing I did differently is mounted the wood even with the cross bar and put a piece of aluminum plate on the other side (where the trolling motor clamps onto). I tried the rudder, didn't like it so I sent it back (my opinion). What I do now is leave the wheels attached to the bottom and that acts as a rudder. I have only done this one time so I may end up going back to just using the oars as a rudder (per a previous recommendation from you, I believe) in the event that there is too much drag. I'll be taking it out this weekend so we'll see how it works! Cheers!
Hey Gordon, super interesting using the wheels! I put in a link for the rudder since many people don't like to have the oars. I think people who choose to have a standing platform and elevated seat lose the practical ability to use the oars...though I'm not totally sure. Let us know how the drag situation works out!
@@willritter elevated seat and platform here too. I'll send pics
@@willritter Well, I think the wheel "rudder" worked better with the single wheel than the two wheel set up (I tried both). I also decided to mount my motor on the front, mounted it with angle metal to my standing platform (diamond plate aluminum). I need to try that next. May not need to leave the wheels on but I probably will because it is just easier and quicker to get it out of the water.
I would love to see some pics of your set up. Will@renewchurches.com
I thought about front mounting, but the front makes the perfect unhooking station for big sturgeon!
@@willritter I will send some as soon as I get coffee on board, LOL
With the motor on the stock mount with a 36 inch shaft was the prop in danger of hitting the pontoon? I’m leaning towards getting the 40lb thrust minnkota with the 36 inch shaft
I have a similar pontoon boat with a 30 lb thrust and it was struggling to go up River against a little bit of current. I get what you're saying about a 55 lb thrust not being any faster but do you think it would help getting up the current better?
Just got a nice used XT for
250
I found a Minkotta 70, sling mount, foot controls for
300
Litium batteries 120ah
It will do 7mph when it is set up right
...solar...
So Cool! Yes, they are SUPER expensive new. I also got mine used for 250!
No way I've used 30 inch shaft for years no problem on my xts I have a 55 lb thrust motor and it moves really good better that a 30 lb and it doesn't use more battery than a 30 lb it actually is better
I have a 30 and a 60, I'll try both and see. The 60 moves my jon boat noticeably better.
Awesome! Let's us know the difference!
Gave you a big THUMBS UP. Quick question - did you test as to how fast you are going at max speed on still water with that 30 lbs thrust motor? Thanks.
Not very fast, 2 to 3mph.
@@willritter Thanks.
Has anyone had issues trying to register after adding a trolling motor? TN requires a bill of sale
Novice. Thanks.
So you recommend the Newport Vessels X40 36" shaft? Any quality issues with this one versus the Minn Kota C2?
Hey Brent, I was only pointing to it as an option that had the proper shaft length and good reviews to get folks started in the right direction. The basic one I have had been perfectly adequate with the exception of the shaft length
What’s your battery life like with your set up? Do you keep a spare charged battery in your vehicle? Or does the set up you have last you all day?
Hi Cameron, I posted a video not too long ago that should answer your questions on battery life. Blessings!
Will , how do you lift your motor at take out and launching, to keep the props out of the rocks and mud?
I take them motor/battery/ etc off completely for transport. I just tilt the motor the rest of the time
Best place for trolling motor is up front, along with a keel out back. Voice of experience. The least amount of wind blows these boats all over the place.
yes, trolling motors are more efficient Pulling than pushing... but when you're trying to fish it gets in the way...
@@t.c.2776I have mine up front, love it! I drop it all the way down and after with my foot. I’m going to put tabs off the left and right side to turn eventually but it sits low and out of the way..😊
I know this is an older video, having the problem of not being able to find a 30 lb with a 36 inch shaft, so the 40lb 36 inch will work with it? I just have the normal Colorado and am gonna try the factory mount out
I was able to modify my mount to drop it a bit lower and the 30 works just fine
Put a longer shaft in the motor
Is yours the 30” shaft or 36”? I was thinking about getting the 36” do u think that’s fine? Is 42 too long?
Mine is the 30, go at least 36.
What size battery you recommend how many amp hours I have a 27lbs thrust with the pwm speed controller.
I have a video on battery life. It might help answer some questions
Now I was told if I hook up an electric motor I have to get registered. This true? I live in Southern Cal so wouldn't be surprised if it was.
Yes, in California if you add an electric or gas motor to your pontoon, kayak, or SUP it must be registered as a vessel where you are going to get numbers and a mussel sticker as well. AND depending on the lake or body of water of your choice to use the "vessel" it may required a lake permit from that county AND full inspection prior to launching. I registered both my pontoons (colorado xt and a creek co, pontoon) where I pay every two years $20 and $25... worth it!!! The initial registration process is a bit cumbersome but I know ways to get it done easy. 😉
Idaho as well
I appreciate the answer, ty@@ninobagel1177
Man I weigh 190 and soon as put my battery and trolling motor on there it's like almost ready to sink idk what is wrong.
You need more air !
Yes, that thing should be tight as a drum!
just uploaded a video on properly inflating the pontoon, Hopefully its helpful to you
Why did you mount it so high up if your sucking air (water)? Makes no sense.
You are totally right. I later modified the mount and it fixed the issue.
Hey do you have an instagram?
Used to, I've limited my social media to UA-cam
@@willritter okay no worries!
why ask for a Thumbs Up before you validate your complaint about a motor you have not even identified yet... AFTER you give me information I feel is worthy, I will consider a Thumbs Up... Ok... so what you are saying it's NOT the motor that's the problem... it's YOUR mistake in not measuring what you needed and also how you may have mounted it... you can remove and shorten those tubes so therefore it might be possible to contact Minn Kota and ORDER a longer tube.. it's a simple fix... and for you to suggest "any other pontoon" is just arrogantly stupid as you DO NOT know the specs of ALL the other manufactures dimensions out there... you can't even fix your own problems... your explanation of Thrust is very poor... ALL Minn Kota motors are designed for different SIZE/Weights of vessels... but ALL are designed to push their Class of boat at approximately 3mph... now a 30lb on an inflatable with low drag and shallow draft, you "might" get 4-5 on flat water with zero wind... but going up river against a 3-4mph current and a strong headwind might just see you going backwards... I ran into that problem with a 30lb on a canoe, so I'm now running a 40lb on my inflatable which will give me more torque and maybe a bit more speed... and yes it will take more power from the battery and less run time... but you can also put a small GAS outboard on the XT... a 1.5 or 2hp would be perfect... your complaints are "your" complaints... I see simple fixes for all of them... you could drop that motor mount down another 4in. at least and that should solve your problem... you could probably buy a piece of PVC to slide over your motor shaft and lengthen it that way...
