  • A review of my go-to guitar, the Yamaha A1R acoustic electric (usa.yamaha.com/products/music.... This guitar is about 5-6 years old and I have played it daily since I've owned it. I re-strung it with a set of Ernie Ball medium-light gauge acoustic guitar strings before playing it. I demo'd it with the internal mic as well as an Eletrovoice RE20 mic (www.amazon.ca/EV-RE20-Studio-....
    I mention that the guitar has scalloped bracing. Here's a great rundown on that: • Scalloped Bracing vs S...

    I just ordered one of these for $350 off of Reverb. I bought this to be a gigging / work horse guitar. For that I prefer laminated sides as opposed to solid. I take comfort in knowing it’s a little more resilient to outside forces. Anyways.. great review !

    I just want to say that I truly think Yamaha make some of the best guitars period. Built solid, sound great, no bs. Even the cheap ones get the job done. With a Yamaha you don't need to go above $700 with a preamp to have a serious guitar. I have one that is 20 years old, all original parts. Has a crack on the top from a rough lifestyle, haha. Still sounds good, holds tune and even after a couple weeks or so without playing, its still in near perfect tuning when I grab it. If you can swing this price, you won't regret it. You don't need to spend thousands to get quality. I bought this one recently and it will probably out live me. 👍

    for the finishing, is this natural or vintage natural?

      I'm not sure, to be honest. If I had to guess, I'd say natural since the colour looks true to the natural colour of the wood.

    which one is better sounding yamaha A1M or this yamaha A1R?

    • @MrShawntompkins
      @MrShawntompkins  3 роки тому +1

      Well, I'd say that "better" is a subjective term. Kind of depends what you like! They're both really similar guitars. Very similar builds, very similar materials (aside from the back and sides). The A1R resonates more in the mid-range of frequencies that you can hear and the A1M cuts through more on the highs and lows. Hope that helps!

      @@MrShawntompkins alright thank you. I'll check the GC near here if they have the A1M or the seagull S6 Original.

    Does it sound better than FG830 and LL6?

    The neck is mahogany not rosewood.

    Yamaha FG830 or A1R?

    • @MrShawntompkins
      @MrShawntompkins  2 роки тому +1

      It depends on your budget. The FG830 is a great entry level guitar but the A1R has a better build quality and, n my opinion, a much fuller, deeper sound. So, if you have the money, go for the A1R. If you’re on a tight budget, the FG830 is still a great choice.

      @@MrShawntompkins interesting thanks, I actually have the A1R but was watching some demos for 830 and thought it sounded more fuller. I went to buy 830 but the shop had this model, I thought I made a mistake since I never use the inbuilt electronics. but I may just keep it based on your comment. did you try them side by side?

    • @MrShawntompkins

      @@HasNiHassaan I haven't played them side by side but I know my A1R well after all these years and have played the FG830 in a shop. Don't get me wrong, the FG830 is a great guitar, especially for the price point but the A1R is a notch above.
      I debated whether or not I needed the electronics as well when I originally bought the A1R. When play live, I tend to stand up and move around a bit so it's really nice to have the ability to plug in and be amplified. You don't get that versatility when you have to mic the guitar (which you can still do if you prefer the sound of a mic when playing live or for recording). Plus, you get the cutaway body with the A1R, which is nice for playability.

      The FGX830C is nearly identical in specs. There are no specifications between the A1R and the FGX830C that would account for sonic differences. Same top, back, sides, neck and bracing. The binding material and headstock shape are the only real differences. If your noticing differences online, it's likely due to variables such as the player, strings or microphone used. The A1R is a fancier model for sure, but sonically they're so close it's not worth comparing, as it's likely there's as much difference between two specific A1Rs as there is between an A1R and the FGX830C. I own an FGX830C, FG830 and have played several A1Rs in comparison. Hope that helps. Pick the one that feels good for you and suits your taste in budget and headstock design. 👍
