    I thought I was going to get a Taylor 110e today. Walked out with this guy in a sunburst. Sounds, looks, and feels wonderful at its price point. Resonant. Low action. Warm.

      I walked in today to get a Taylor 214CE, all sold out and don't know when more are coming. I tried out everything and left with this in Sunburst also. It was just the best in the price range for my taste.

    My pleasure Robert. This just goes to show you what a well rounded guitar player you are. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was surprised to hear an acoustic coming out of their speakers. Maybe you should have done this a long time ago. I may throw in interesting and completely irrelevant things I find funny like Zakk and his new go to guitar, The Hello Kitty. But you really do have an excellent site! Keep up the great work! 10,000 plus musicians can't be wrong. Stoned maybe but NOT wrong.

    I just bought one of my own. BEAUTIFUL SOUND!! Loud and bright on it's own. I also really like the sound plugged in. Some people may think it sounds a little unnatural but I personally enjoy the thwack and rich tone on the amp. I've owned six guitars and this is my favorite by far. I like how you play it

    Good video, looking forward to more acoustic stuff in the future. Only critique I have is that it would have been helpful if you'd noted the width at the nut(1.692").

    Robert maybe its just my luck but I was really hyped about the Yamaha CPX 600 guitars after seeing all the great reviews
    on You Tube. Up until I tried one at my local music store yesterday... UGG!! The one I tried had problems staying in tune and the harmonics were very bad and the neck needed some serious truss rod adjusting, I expected much more even the sales clerk commented on how awful it sounded and played when he tried it. It was so bad after 5min I'd had enough I didn't even bother plugging it in. Now I know some will say you can adjust the intonation and I agree on a Strat or Les Paul and most every regular
    electric guitar there's plenty you can to to fix intonation issues. But over the years I've learned with acoustic electrics you can make minor adjustments but beyond that what you hear is what you get without spending more than a few bucks! So now I was kinda depressed til I checked Facebook marketplace I saw a like new Washburn WD10 SCEATB for sale for 150.00 I asked a few questions of the seller and decided to take a look... Wow! This is what a value priced electric acoustic should be, great action absolutely no issues with intonation or playability and when I plugged it in the onboard built in Fishman 301T didn't let me down
    great sound. I gave the girl, who bought the guitar 3yrs ago the 150.00 she was asking and left, even though I felt like a thief. I've spent 30yrs performing on stage and I wont be afraid to use this guitar... Need I say more? Yamaha where did your quality control go? I sure hope this isn't regular thing I was very disappointed but Washburn saved the day!! Have you ever tried this guitar? Did you like it, or did I find a diamond in the rough?

    Nice change of pace. You know though, from the demo I personally think the acoustics being miced. Sounds great. The electronics plugged in sounds ok. However that's usually the issues I usually see with most acoustics. Just plugging them doesn't sound no where near as good at just acoustically.
    While we are talking acoustics, what I have been doing is using my majesty and the piezo pick up and sounds great live. Saves me changing guitars. However have you ever tried the boss AC3 pedal? If so what are your thoughts? Might you get one or do you have one in your pedal collection and do a review? I would really be interested on your thoughts. Yeah I am a metal guy but there are a lot of great metal songs with acoustics in them. When playing these songs live rapidly changing back and forth is difficult.

    • @RobertWJackson
      @RobertWJackson  5 років тому +1

      I’ve never minded the Boss Acoustic Simulators, but there’s plenty of other people out there that hate them. Might be worth doing a demo on one day.

    • @GuitarJeff
      @GuitarJeff 5 років тому +1

      Yeah I was wonder because some of the hate. Some seem to get them to sound great. The one thing I noticed is those that get them to sound great are using single coils. Which then I wonder do you need single coil or would could tapped humbucker work as well. I didn't pay attention if they were using neck or bridge or middle for those that had middles either. But that might have an impact on the tone you get from that pedal. Kind of like some people saying the metal zone sucked. All depends how you use it.

    I have a question. How do set up your mic on the amps? Do you go into a mixer, then into a pa amp and speakers? We did not use the mics in front of cabinets back in the day, so if you could outline how you do it, I can add it in my home studio. Keep on pickin

    • @RobertWJackson
      @RobertWJackson  5 років тому

      Pretty simple, actually. I still record using all hardware, for the most part. I typically record using two mics, one on each speaker, which is why I also use 2x12 cabs. So a Shure SM57, Sennheiser e609, Audix i5, or Blue Encore 100i (all dynamic instrument mics) on one speaker, usually positioned at a 90° angle right where the dust cap meets the speaker cone, and another mic of some kind on the other speaker in about the same position. Sometimes I use another dynamic mic, sometimes I use a condenser, and sometimes I move it back a foot. I experiment quite a bit and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the same sound twice. I also try to balance mic tones by using a bright mic and a darker mic, rather than two of the same. The SM57 is the industry standard, but it’s a pretty bright sounding microphone on its own, so I pair it with a darker mic and then blend to taste. Plug them each into a channel on my Tascam 24-track recorder, set the input and output levels accordingly, and off we go. That’s really all there is to it.
