- I head to Maryland AGAIN with a new crossbow.
My "perfect" crossbow setup these days includes:
Killer Instinct SWAT X1 (starting 2023) (My new "one gun")
Burris Oracle X Scope (since 2022)
Burt Coyote Lumenoks (since 2012 or so) (save 15% on lumenok.com with coupon code BUNJIE )
Swhacker #251 3" cutting diameter crossbow broadheads (for our last 20 or 30 deer/hogs and woodchucks). Swhacker stopped production of the #251 in 2023 but never fear: the #243 is the same exact item, although a different color. Bunjie says you're good to use that one :)
Dragon Claw arrows from Wyvern Creations (good outfit, been buying different gear there for years, these arrows were great in the SWAT X1 throughout the 2023-4 Crossbow Seasons!)
2024 sees us using AJ's Custom Arrows. More on those soon!

Bunjie (The Original Bunjie, The O.B.) is my 2010 Excalibur Axiom that got me hooked on crossbow hunting. This was my "one gun" for more than a decade and Bunjie's reliability is the reason I ONLY hunt with a crossbow. After killing dozens of deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired, but still gets out every year and even killed two deer 2023--and a woodchuck at 81 yards, and in 2024 we killed two deer together in Maryland. Just like old times!
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter. It also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow back in 2020 when I began the Quest for a Successor to Bunjie.
Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows), a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at around 400 fps! This crossbow helped expand the Kingdom of Bunjie by introducing me to compound crossbows and showing me they're nothing to be feared, and also helped me get my first deer on public ground. This crossbow also inspired the "Rule of 400" that I talk about from time to time: a crossbow that can shoot a 400 grain arrow at 400 feet per second is my definition of a modern crossbow--producing over .7 slugs of momentum and over 140 foot pounds of kinetic energy, the envy of the archery world.

I haven't used the ozone things but I use Scent Crusher bags, the big orange ones. They are EXCELLENT! and you can never have enough spray.

I have been waiting for this video for what seems like a week, LOL. I saw Clif Bars in the background. I always carry one or two of those with me to the stand. You stated that Opening Day is the best, and you are not wrong (until the rut starts). I hunted this last Sunday and saw ZERO. It didnt help that someone was shooting their rifle on the next property and on another property someone was yelling for their dog for 30 minutes :( Since opening day, the pictures of deer has decreased significantly. We cant bait where i hunt in Wisconsin for a long time now, so I do not get to see many deer and have to try and catch them on their trails going to or coming from their food source. All good things to those who wait :)

Rich after watching your videos over the years, I’m not sure you are going to stay with the old one gun. I think your best chance might be the Ravin. Just shoot their arrows, it will do the job no problem. Maybe keep the swat as a backup. The Ravin has enough speed and power to get you through the next 10 seasons

If you had the Ravin you wouldn't need a decoking arrow . plus if you shoot it every time you leave your stand you could be alerting deer .

I sweat a lot going in to my stand so I always have 2 Field Wipe scent killers in a sandwich baggie.
I spray down my outer camo with scent killer before heading in.
When I finally get set on stand, I wipe every exposed area that was sweating. Seems to help.

it wasn't the curse of bunjie it was hunting pressure. 2 deer from one feeder and continuing to hunt it just put to much heat on thst one spot.

@Deathbybunjie I get it though. I've over hunted a couple of stands because of buck sightenings. i keep reminds myself, We are hunting in their living rooms and they know we are there.
Why in gods green earth are you paying to hunt over a feeder for doe’s in Maryland …..I get your a lawyer with a busy schedule…. Plenty of public land in Pa and Maryland for that matter … I’m with BoDean52 that’s not hunting that lazy killing … enjoyed your channel up to this but that’s not hunting

@stevenhicks815 you have to ask Rich, something happened that it went to the shop. Something he didn't like the feel of. It may have been nothing. I think he got a little "crossbow shy" after the mishap with the Ravin but needed it to be checked out to be sure. I don't blame him.
It's a new crossbow. The first Swat X1 he calls the Enforcer (with thin blue line grips), and this one is the Patriot (with American flag grips). As others have said, the Ravin is so loud he started flinching. After it broke he tried shooting the Enforcer, but either there was an issue with it, or he was still flinching, and couldn't get it to shoot consistently. Rich sent it to get it looked at, and bought a new one (the Patriot) to hunt with until he gets it or the Ravin back. The new one is the one in this video.

@MichaelLakota-vc4tk been here for years, you say, somehow surprised that I hunt over bait in Maryland in the early season. Which I've done for over a decade in dozens upon dozens of videos and killed dozens upon dozens of deer in those videos, including my biggest buck last year...life of Bunjie goes on without you. Trust me, it will.
