Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
A. show this process of high FOC arrow tuning. B. Show, bow fishing. C. Show scouting strategies ad set up strategies. D. show saddle strategies. Love the show!
FOC tuning, Ranch Fairy. Bowfishing, I’m not sure if these are your guys for that. Scouting Strategies, see THPs previous stuff where they show how to scout virtually and in person.
I would like to see the Hunting Public do a Target Tour, where they travel to some of the states that they hunt and organize an archery shoot for their fans. They could sell some gear, sign some autographs, etc. Other than that, keep up the good work.
Love these videos! Something I’ve been wanting to see is a backstory video. One where everyone talks about their background and how y’all came together to make THP. Thanks y’all!
I am an old bowhunter (75) and I shoot a 28 inch 400 spine arrow with a 125 grain cut on contact broadhead @ 55 lbs. I also glue a 7 inch section of a 2016 aluminum arrow over the front end of the arrow up to the insert. That gives me approx 18% FOC. I pass thru every deer I shoot. I keep my shot to 25 yards or less. Thanks for the video.
If you are serious climbing down the rabbit hole with arrow set up. Troy is the best out there. The man knows his sh..stuff. You posted this 3 years ago I watched it. Intimidated by exploring heavy FOC. I followed most all of Ranch Fairy's content for a year or two, still do. It wasn't until the past month that I dove head first into the test kit. Troy's recommendation of spine and insert weight coupled with the 5 different fp weights turned what I thought was going to be a nightmare into absolute fun. Testing different weight fp's with different spines ultimately provided me with 3 different arrow/fp/bh weights that would work. Ranging from 125 to 200 on a .300 spine. WOW. I love all of THP content. Following you guys for years. Keep up with your range of different related hunting content. It's awesome.
1. Previous hunt breakdowns and why they worked 2. land mapping (you already do this on public but maybe more on it) 3. get all the deer harvested this past year on THP and briefly talk about each one 4. come to Kansas and eat @ boomers steakhouse in Holton. My treat!
Great stuff and good job Aaron asking the right questions and continuing to drill down on the basics! And of Course, the Ranch Fairy is classic, straight talking with supporting examples. I commend you all for making this a priority for bowhunting!!! I have two young daughters and a heavy arrow gives me and them confidence to be able to harvest any game in the world with archery tackle. Off-Season Video Suggestions: How we scout new public properties for deer, why we choose this stand spot (from a macro to a micro perspective); How about hill and farm country tactics. How many times, if at all do you pre-scout locations to determine where you're going to hunt this fall. Perhaps explaining your methodolgy with that. The History of THP, who, what, why, how, when on how you all got into this and why you started the channel! I got a ton of suggestions. I don't even watch regular TV anymore because of THP and other great hunting related UA-cam channels!!! Keep up the great work and God Bless you all!!!
I love how it ends with “Snort the fairy dust!”. In context, it’s a good message with a fun wrapper. I’m just getting interested in this heavy arrow, high FOC thing and I appreciate the info. Thanks for the video
I've fallen hook line and sinker for this ever since your first video. Bought myself some 300 spine arrows that are loaded up to 780 grains and they are AWESOME!!!!! Finally feels like a lethal killing machine rather than a flimsy speed machine. Thank you guys so much for putting your crowd on to the Ranch Fairy. I am fully snorting the fairy dust and can't wait to sling it through a deer this October. Keep spreading the word as I am to everyone one I know that you have to put some serious time and effort into a arrow build.
Thank you hunting public for turning me on!, Fairy Duster here 545 grains 65 lb bear species . Dr. Ashby and ranch fairy have opened my eyes to a new world and exactly what I've been looking for in bow hunting .
I changed my arrow setup this offseason. My old setup was a total flapper at 335 grains total, which i shot with a fixed head. I killed two does with those and got pass throughs but i barely even hit ribs on those shots. Now i have a 560 grain setup and am getting some single bevel broadheads so i feel more confident aiming for the vital v. I was afraid of the bones up front and shot both does too far back, single lung and liver. I got both, but only because i backed out and came back later. I learned that from you guys. I can't wait to try my new setup this fall. 4 months until the season opens. I also got into saddle hunting and am excited about that. As far as content goes i like your hunt analysis a lot, maybe more of that? I am re-watching all your old videos, there is good info in all of them and you are a fun group to watch.
Ranch Fairy is such a trip. He’s a true genius with a personality, go figure. I’ve been looking for a video on shotgun pattern issues. I’d like to see something discussing chokes, rounds and sighting in older shotguns, like the ones we all have. Thanks for the video guys!
This is exactly what I needed to see....getting ready to start shooting more and decided after this past archery season I need to go heavier. Everything makes sense - gonna look up some Ranch Fairy Videos...will keep you posted on results.
I joined the club. Last season my setup came in at 430 grains (340 spine w/100g broadheads). Just finished bare shaft tuning last night and this season I'm pushing 610 grains (250 spine w/250g upfront) down the road and it is a dart. I would have never believed it if I didn't see it myself.
I wish I would have known this information when I started shooting a bow 30 years ago. I'll be changing my set up this year. Keep it up guys it's great stuff!
That kid was my son. It was a 30# @ 24" bow with 380gn arrow going 155fps. Arrow was 225gn head with 75gn insert. Arrow went through a rib vertical on the entrance and still stuck in the dirt on the opposite side. The doe ran 80 yards in the open and did a faceplant. I think she weighed 130# dressed.
Thanks for posting a second video on this topic, after watching the first video on this topic, I decided to get a heavier arrow set up for this upcoming deer season. The explanation and thought process behind why this works made perfect sense to me.
Now we are talking. Turkey hunting is cool and all but deer is king!! I emailed Troy several times after the first video to ask him questions about my arrow and he was very helpful. Responded to me every time for which I am grateful. Can't wait to use my new arrow setup this year!
I'd like to see videos on detailed gear lists of what you guys take into the woods deer hunting and gear you take with you on out of state hunts. Also more scouting videos and detailed treestand location. What you look for in the perfect treestand location
Got an appointment to have a brand new bow set up on Friday morning. Told my tech I wanted him to build me some heavy high foc arrows. Going back to fixed heads and thinking about trying out some single bevels. Y’all are putting out some great content. Keep it up!
i love the way you hunt and film......all of you are so good at getting deer at close range.... i wonder why we don't see you hunting /filming "TRAD". THAT WOULD BE CRAZY. I could imagine Zach backing up a bit befor shooting .🤣
During the off-season I tend to focus on technical things and scouting. The Ranch Fairy episodes are great as you all provide context to the technical aspects he has on his channel. Supplementing it with your footage makes it more real. I also listened to the Shane and Doug dog tracking podcasts you did and got a lot of information, the more you can do like this will help prepare for next season. Seeing more the techniques behind mobile hunting both saddle and ground would be interesting. Finally, more info on big woods without ag fields will help us northeast big woods fans. Keep up the great work.
Man, after listening to this info, it makes so much sense. I’ve switched from like a low 400gr to 560gr and I’ve never had fletching sticking out after the switch. Makes so much sense. I want to try a little higher than 560 now. I’ve had a quarter to before and passed because of knowing I didn’t have the setup to punch thru the shoulder. Thanks Ranch Fairy
Back in the early 90s I hunted with 2314s carrying 90 grain Muzzys at about 65 ft/lbs KE.. Full pass throughs were expected. Just watched this for the 4th time (slow learner). Because of Troy's influence the last 2 seasons I've moved up from a 410 grain arrow I've shot for nearly 2 decades, to ~465 grain arrow with my favorite NAP KillZone mechanical heads, and have seen a return to full pass through hits like I used to get all the time. (Yeah I know...Still pre-puberty arrows) In 2020, I'll be shooting arrows in the low 500 to mid-500 grain range. Depends on what really flys well. It has been fascinating watching Troy's philosophy evolve that last 2-3 years. I'll be shooting arrows still behind where you are at today. I'm financially not able to retire all the broadheads I own and drop $100+ on new broadheads. However I've a set of 300 spine Easton ACCs now setup with steel inserts, and my choice of broadheads include: 130g Bear Razors, 125g Muzzys, and some very old (1980s) unused 180g Satellite CoC + removable bleeders that are 4" long. I'm going to measure FOC with the 3-4 main choices I've got. If the 180g Satellites fly, they will be the choice. My Darton 3800 will shoot them over 250 fps (31.5" DL) with a KE in the mid-90s. LORD willing 2021 will bring me a set of single bevel heads with a weight of 180-220 grains.
I'd like to see more of your scouting videos. Also why bucks set up where, and how the wind direction changes things. I have really learned a lot from you all last time and just want to learn more.
Love this stuff! I started bowhunting 30 years ago. We didn't care about FPS, really never even heard of it back then. We shot what flew the best. Still have those old aluminum xx75's with those huge 150-175 grain rocky mountain 4 blades. Troy has done hands on research on this topic. Results don't lie.
Greetings from NY been a great turkey season up in the north country birds for days and plenty of public ground. Great video and information on bowhunting arrow set up. Aim small miss small keep up the great work!
Hey Greg, my opinion doesn’t mean much but you all may want to consider giveaways in the off season. I think that is a great way to keep people engaged. An interesting video series would be suburb hunting. Obviously, this wouldn’t happen until hunting season but I’m sure there is a lot of preparation getting permissions. Thanks
Going to rethink my arrow setup. Between the story about the 9 year old and the statement about only losing 10 feet per second I’m sold on the idea. Should be fun trying something that, in reality, should be better for hunting
You guys have opened up a complete new world of strategies for me and now that I am getting into different arrow builds this is such a great video! Can't wait to see what this fall has coming from you guys. Thank you for all the great info and quality content.
Just went to get rid of my 340 Bemans and get some 300's and get to practicing for high FOC. You would be absolutely amazed how crazy people think this is. The guy at the shop argued with me that a 332-340 FPS bow shooting 67lbs with a 28" 300 spine 9.5 gpi arrow is too much. Bemans site says that is what I should be shooting anyway lmao you guys are great, keep this up!
Great information from the Ranch Frairy as always!!! Can't wait to start trying the adult arrow setup after recovering from falling out of a tree last October. Maybe do a few videos buying arrows then tuning them and doing the complete setup. Awesome videos guy's keep it up!!!!
Scouting, Scouting, Scouting. I’d love to see more scouting videos! I’ve watched all your videos. I know you already have some - but more would be great!
I, along with other's I believe, would love to see a video of the bow you shoot, along with the poundage you shoot at, the arrow that you all are using in your set up, and your sights that you all use. Set up videos where you all go in to detail have been great in the past. Now that you guys are all changing with the heavier set up, it would be great to see how you set up your sights and what not. LOVE THE VIDEOS!
There’s no doubt that what the Ranch Fairy is preaching is legit. It’s old school concepts, often times it pays to get back to basics. With that being said..... the archery part of the equation is a pretty big part. If you can’t hit what you plan to kill, well...... you can’t kill it. Doesn’t matter what kind of broadhead, or how heavy your arrow, or what the FOC is. There is a lot of forgiveness that comes with an arrow traveling “fast”. There’s a happy medium in there that is a balance of speed and arrow weight that will help you become the best bowhunter you can be. The most important thing is confidence. Be confident in your equipment and ability through practice and knowing your equipment. When the moment of truth comes if you are a nervous wreck and unsure of your equipments ability to perform then you’ve beat yourself before you even release the arrow.
As an avid UK based 'Turkey Tour' watcher I'd be very interested in understanding how a foreign visitor could take a trip to the USA in Spring and hunt Turkey (perhaps both private and public land and traveling with or without a shotgun). Keep up the great videos. Thanks.
Can’t wait to get my arrow through a deer this fall and see the results. Switched up my set up for this year, shooting a tuffhead 315 single bevel with 100 grain brass insert. 27% foc with taw of 740 grains out of my 55@ 28 maddog archery prairie predator long bow. Also hope to have it on film as well. Will be hunting a sweet swamp on public land. Y’all are welcome to come out to hunt western Maryland public land if you ever get the chance.
Maybe a tip video on how to get others involved in hunting. Took my sister turkey hunting for her first time hunting this season and she loved it and wants to deer hunt this fall. The Magnus Bullhead got her interested after 4 years of asking her lol. She did not care for the blind experience that much besides trying to kill me with gas at 5 in the morning but loved the Zach attack run and gun we did with bows!
I really enjoy your hunt break downs compared to how you scouted property in off season and how you determined you stand locations and set ups with wind configurations. Last years summer series on scouting different terrain was good. Something along those lines. I enjoy your hunts but I really like the how to and educational aspect you guys have traditionally done.
Arrows that are mass produced have a high variability for inconsistent tolerances. This is why nock tuning is such a crucial part. Troy has figured it out
You guys make a great combination for producing content. Man I really enjoy Troy the ranch fairy on other peoples channels. Entertaining, funny, and so much valuable information. Too condescending on his own channel for my preference but I know you don't GAF. Merica!! Thanks for all the info I actually went with a grizzly tanto tip single bevel and adding total arrow weight this year because of all of your research and DATA!
Would love to see a bunch of “Scouting” videos. Would love to know what sorta tactics and secrets y’all use to choose your location. How to identify bedding. Buck trails. How/where to set up cameras on public with bait/no bait. Love the channel. Y’all are awesome!
Great content, I changed my setup after watching some of Troy's videos and listening to the Lethal Podcast. I'd like to see some more video recaps of past hunts. Showing on the map and video explaining why you chose to hunt that spot, or what the decision making process looks like for you guys. Thanks for the great content. Keep it up.
When I started hunting used fixed blade. Then when to macanitcal, no pass through and lost 2 deer. So have went back to fixed blade. Blowing through deer again and getting them. This works!!!
Thanks for turning me into Ranch Fairy and using “adult” arrows! Lol. My reason to switch from a 430gr arrow to a 555gr arrow is the “DRT” factor (dead right there). Have a successful 2020 archery season!
Always great stuff guys. He and y'all convinced me a while back, just trying to figure out what to do. Just ordered the Ranch Fairy starter pack - some 150 gr Magnus Stinger Buzzcut broadheads. Will be looking forward to testing the setup out on pigs asap.
How about a podcast on tips for how to be more successful at gaining permission to turkey or deer hunt on private land. Another idea would be a video on picking the right setup once you find a hot spot (picking the right tree, playing the wind, hunting height, setting up for strong side shots, how far away from the sign should you set up, ...)
I think I would like to hear about how you put your season together such as finding out about permits, areas to hunt, places to camp. Not showing where but explaining how you got to that point. Love the channel guys. Troy, im still working on my arrows. Got some 250's but way too stiff for my 60 Impulse34, waiting on some 300's.
Beings i hunt in iowa and there is an abundance of hunters out during bow season. Id like to see you guys break down a small piece of public land on how you would set up on it. I hunted a small piece of public trying to get away from other people thats maybe 20 acres but the only timber is the river edge everything else is crp.
great video guys cant wait to get building my new heavy arrow setup. As for stuff id personally like to see, not all of us have the time or just the means or even the deer population to go crazy after big bucks. understanding more of deer behavior in general, even does, would be a big help to guys who just wana get some food on the table or be able to key in on doe groups for the rut to have a better chance at a buck. i dont need a big series but one episode explaining that when you guys just happen across it in the field would be cool. thanks for all the entertainment, shoot straight.
I would love more in depth/ in the field tips on scouting strategies. I know you guys have talked about it on the podcast but seeing what you guys pick out on maps and what you look for in the field on video would be even more helpful
So this season will be my first year hunting ever, my papa used to bow hunt and I really can't wait to get into it. I am still in the process of setting up and tuning my bow, but as a new hunter I want to ensure I am making my kills as quick and ethical as possible! After watching all your videos on here I have pretty much decided on a 125 g 3 blade fixed broad head, what would be a good arrow shaft to go for, for good flight as well as best fox. Or should I be looking at a heavier broad head? Thank you
I'm sure others said these but a 3d shoot competition, hog hunt with troy and a break down of when your looking at a topo map of what is what like saddles, point, benches ect look like.
It's called momentum, mass *velocity ^2, vs force , mass * acceleration, both matter simply put. Shooting 515 grains at 70 lbs 28.5" No Cam HTR. Sort of depends on the setup. Cheers and love the discussion!
With 72ish lb 29" shaft, 300 spine with 100gr point and 40-50 grain insert tunes great for me, regardless of GPI in hunting weight shafts. Axis, fmj, GT hunter, b.e rampage, victory vap. At the end of the day, keep it simple and enjoy yourself
Bloopers videos would be fun. Also a campfire series where you guys recall past hunts and share your goals for next season.

A. show this process of high FOC arrow tuning. B. Show, bow fishing. C. Show scouting strategies ad set up strategies. D. show saddle strategies. Love the show!
go to Ranch Fairy channel. He has the dope on high FOC.

I second this!!!👍🏻
Please. Please. Please.
Y’all come to Tennessee and do this, I’ll be there
This is a must!

How about a hog hunting collaboration with the ranch fairy.
Beat me to it
Rumor on the street, Grant might have. Just hoping for some footage.
Yes!
Troy is the man. Ima tinkerer too but Troy is super dialed . 👍🏼 solid dude
Always a fan of summer scouting and gear review, answering set up questions (gear and hunting) etc.

I’m so glad y’all did this with Troy ... his videos are so funny and entertaining 👍
Do a turkey shotgun setup video. Would live to know what all the guys have.
Most of the shot guns I have seen them with are not that special. They are trying not to take shots over 30 yards they rely on being great hunters.
Summer scouting and what we should be doing right now to have success in the fall
Zack out gigging bullfrogs would be an awesome video.
Wanna see a 3D target competition between the boys!
Yes!!
Would love to see you guys go in depth on bow setups and then taking your arrow setups in the preseason and walking us through it with you!
Off-season would be great to see some fishing or spear fishing
Greetings from NY been a great turkey season up in the north country birds for days and plenty of public ground. Great video and information on bowhunting arrow set up. Aim small miss small keep up the great work!
Equipment prep and set up, gear dumps, and of course scouting strategies.
Prepping for deer season like scouting, bow and arrow setups and maybe some fishing
You should do a video on how to find public land in your area and how you guys choose where you pick your public land spots
You guys have opened up a complete new world of strategies for me and now that I am getting into different arrow builds this is such a great video! Can't wait to see what this fall has coming from you guys. Thank you for all the great info and quality content.
Freakin Fantastic as Always! This Bunch of guys has inspired me to reignite my passion for the sport. I Thank You All
Scent control , using the wind in the mountains and building arrows and bow tuning 👍
Love the arrow videos. Would enjoy a video about what you guys look for when hunting mobil 1-3 day hunt type situation. Sign, trees to hang in, etc.
I've been bow hunting 26 years and hearing this is = to infalt talking about hunting bedding. It just makes sense
Scouting, Scouting, Scouting. I’d love to see more scouting videos! I’ve watched all your videos. I know you already have some - but more would be great!
Great colab.. Need more vids with @RanchFairy and hunting hogs..👍💯THP
Just purchased the Sirius Ranch Fairy test pack! Can’t wait to shoot.
Want to see the rest of turkey season
I, along with other's I believe, would love to see a video of the bow you shoot, along with the poundage you shoot at, the arrow that you all are using in your set up, and your sights that you all use. Set up videos where you all go in to detail have been great in the past. Now that you guys are all changing with the heavier set up, it would be great to see how you set up your sights and what not. LOVE THE VIDEOS!
More mapping and scouting tips. Really enjoyed the first series.
Good Fortune favors the confident not the hopeful.
I love the Ted and Catman flathead fishing vids there a great duo. The map scouting and explaining, and tips help me learn the most
I would like to see more videos on using topo maps to help narrow down deer movement. I have learned a lot from your videos. You guys are awesome
Keep it up.
After watching this Im going to set my recurves up the test kit. Cant wait to see the results
I am late and don't know if anyone said this. Go fun fishing. I like all outdoor stuff lol. Great stuff by the way.
Great vid . You guys need to do a hunt with the Ranch Fairy !!!
When I started hunting used fixed blade. Then when to macanitcal, no pass through and lost 2 deer. So have went back to fixed blade. Blowing through deer again and getting them. This works!!!
Some fishing videos would be entertaining as well as some small game hunting. Additionally, scouting videos are always great!
Would like to see a video about scouting tips for hunting high pressure, low density deer areas.
Arrow building, bow tuning and general set up 👍
Thanks for turning me into Ranch Fairy and using “adult” arrows!
Y'all are greatest hunting channel but ranch fairy is another breed amazing guy would love to pick his brain
great video guys cant wait to get building my new heavy arrow setup.
Thank you
Would love to see some kayak bass fishing/scouting trips
I'm sure others said these but a 3d shoot competition, hog hunt with troy and a break down of when your looking at a topo map of what is what like saddles, point, benches ect look like.
What would you guys suggest for someone who wants to try this out? Where should I start? What size arrows and grain heads?
What are you guys doing in the off season, and any cool pre season prep. Hunting fishing what ever.
New to the channel but would like to see videos on what to look into for scouting new public lands primarily South Carolina WMA’s
Do a video on your scouting tactics/ how yall pick a tree to hang in. Just curious to see how you guys do it
It's called momentum, mass *velocity ^2, vs force , mass * acceleration, both matter simply put.
Would like to see videos on stand and blind location selection, and scouting, finding bedding areas and how to set up etc
It would be awesome to see some crossbow hunting or videos on crossbows in general. Love hunting with my crossbow here in Wisconsin.
