So cool to see your journey to get me! I didn’t know what amazing adventure awaited me! But I’m so happy I got to come on it with you two!!
Hi Hannah 👋 Can you recommend any crewing websites at all?? Looking to do the same thing soon. Cheers mate!
I enjoy watching your adventure. I’m recovering from a stroke I suffered on a sailboat on 7/8/2023. My recovery has a long way to go before I can sail again, but cruising again is my main motivation to recover. In the meantime I’m living through your experiences. :)
You can do it - you survived the setback for a reason - that’s how serendipity works. I sail the south coast of England - just let me know when you are ready for some fun - I’m 70 and unconquered . . . . like you 🙂
Aaaww..I am so very sorry to read about your health issue. Hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery and be back sailing soon! Take it one day atta' time ! From the east coast of Canada 🇨🇦
That date hasn't even come yet...
@@nickpeet1755 Thanks, typing with one hand has some challenges.
We agree with everyone who commented above! You 100% survived for a reason! Motivation is key, you can do it!! Sending lots of good vibes!! 💛
All other sailing couples on here pale in comparison, you got the skills and the adventurous spirit, love your videos, better than any travelogue ❤
Aw, thank you so much! We are happy to hear you are enjoying our videos! 💛
Nice to see One Life in all its glory!
And the two of you so happy!

Hey Ricky, watching from very south Alabama 👍
Hey Ricky and Mark! Thanks for coming along with us from the South!
I am so provide of you both sailing across the Pacific against many odds. It is great that you guys chose Hannah, someone who has never sailed before. It will be a mind opening and fulfilling experience for her. Jim Rodgers
Hi Jim! Thank you! Everyone has to learn somehow. Only a few years ago we knew nothing about sailing!
Wow, you guy's can't beleive how far you are from home. Totally awesome.... Stay safe!
Hi Paula! Hope you are doing great! We can't believe it either!! ❤️
They are ALWAYS home.

May I say Half Moon Bay, and welcome to my Aotearoa. I see you have been here a little while. Love your vlogs, and do understand the mental gymnastics you go through with the cruising lifestyle. I hung the hook but still live the journeys through you and others,,, thanks guys.
Hey Steve! Thank you! Yes, we are here but hoping to head to Fiji soon! Are you in the area?
@@SailingOneLife I’m sorry I am not, I’m in what they call here the mainland (South Island). When you turn on the light switch we supply the power, we will cut you off one day. If I was there I would bring a box of orange juice to share, lol. Guna be fun for you pushing wind uphill to Fiji, enjoy guys, Luv Ya

@@SailingOneLife I always check on Google Earth to see where you are 😊
I am sooo jealous......I want to be crew for you guys!!.
Safe travels!!😊
Hey Tom! Haha maybe we will have more crew opportunities in the future!
Keep it simple. Nice one this episode..looking forward...(Peter/Denmark)
Thanks, Peter! Happy you enjoyed this one!
That MOON! And oh am I jelly of Hannah! All that room? Looking for another flexible bunkie? Lol.. great video
The moon was unreal! Aww maybe we will have another crew opportunity some time!
I fat fingered my iPad and fast forwarded to the exact moment Gary says, “50 miles from Samoa….got the pole out!”
Dear Diary,
Today I learned to not be lazy and rewind for context.
Whew!!!! Sister arrived….still hoping for more bucket content.
Ashley Biden eat your heart out!
🤣🤣 well we are not looking forward to more bucket content 💩
The date line is such a funky thing. On our travels we have skipped days, arrive before we leave and one occasion I had a 36 hour birthday. .On Taveuni Island in Fiji there is a spot where you can straddle it. A must see if you manage to get to Taveuni.
a 36 hour birthday?! Winning!! Sweet! We plan on getting to Taveuni one day soon!
Great video! Thank you for sharing
Thanks Federico! ❤️
Good Morning SV One Life! Hello from NC.
Hi Scott! We are a little late to reply here but hope you are doing great!
@@SailingOneLife Thank yall so much. I really hope things are going your way.
Great video as usual. I’m so sorry you didn’t get to explore more of the islands of Cook Islands, or English Polynesia as it’s also called. I hope you turn around now that you have picked up Hannah in Samoa.
Will you go to American Samoa also?
You got Tomelau just north of you, stunning place.
Wallis & Futuna just west of you. Gorgeous place and not very well visited by cruisers so might give you a hike in viewers.
Then Tonga to the southwest.
Cheers from your Swedish fan
Hey Magnus! Good to hear from you! We will have to see the rest of the Cook Islands on another trip around! After Samoa is Tonga! Thanks for watching all the way from Sweden!
Glorious video Brooke and Gary! Champagne sailing indeed and what a wonderful welcome into Samoa! I’m definitely adding that to my bucket list! ❤️❤️👏👏👏
Thank you! Our sail to Samoa was so dreamy! If only they were all like that one! 😅
Awesome.
Thank you! 😊
This never gets old. What a dream life. You guys take care & I think I'll be seeing you sooner than later. There was a good southerly wind the other day. It made me wonder if the equinox had kicked in.
Take care good people,
SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Thanks, Russ! Yes, we missed that weather window! Looks like it's going to be sloppy the next couple days but we hope to see you this weekend!
Love the adaptation and improvisation of the sun shade, you two rock!
☀️a towel works great! 😂 Thank you! :)
Cool sailing condition. Nothing like a bit of smooth water awaiting you at port. Hannah seems like she’s settling in well. Certainly has two excellent mentors aboard One Life. Cheers for a great time in Samoa. 🥂👏🏻👍
Thanks, Trent! It was lots of fun having Hannah join us! Hope you had a great weekend with family!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for coming along!
Wow great episode, ❤
Thank you! ❤️
that bow shot was on point.. great video bng
Thanks, Andrew! The Insta360 brings a cool perspective!
I love this. Neat to see someone pop into your world for this next leg. As intimate as that space is, it has to be a little tough. I assume once you get going that space is needed for the spinnaker?
Hey Tom! Yeah these next few videos should add a new vibe to our videos. We actually ended up storing the spinnaker on the side of our aft bunk but we did have to move it into her cabin when using it.
So nice to see you flying your stays'l. It's my favourite sail to use
We love ours too!
Taking on crew.
I follow a couple dozen sailing channels. Each one is different. You each have your own vibe and I like each one for that. Scuba diving is a draw for me.
YEARS ago when Delos left S. Africa, for the 2nd time, the took on new crew. Blue, Lizbeff and Leezer! When they picked up Lisa she said, "I've never been so happy to see people that I've never met before!"
THAT says it all. The enthusiasm. It matters not whether you have much or any experience. It matters that you are willing to try and to learn.
That particular crew, with Brian, Senor Brady, and Kazaa, was a nudist crew too. They scampered over the dunes in Namibia in the raw!
I'm not looking for you to do that, but I think that having crew on board gives a good vibe to any boat. Dynamics change and it's not the "same old same old".
Hannah. She already looks like a good person to have on board. Looking forward to the next episodes and the adventures.
Hey Rick! We agree, the enthusiasm and willingness to learn is exactly what makes a good team! Hannah brings new life and a different vibe onboard. We are looking forward to sharing these next several videos with her onboard! Cheers!
Thank you!
Hanna will be a great asset on One Life, very wise decision 👍 can hardly wait to see how she adapts to the cruiser lifestyle.Hey Gary I was thinking getting some good marine exhaust with no wire slipped over you new anchor bridle might stop the chafing,it’s flexible but very durable.
Thanks, Mark! We are excited to share these next few episodes with her onboard! The marine exhaust hose is a good idea. We had old firehouse on sections of it but realize we need to have the whole thing protected.
A fairly uneventful passage, which is always nice... Having crew onboard should be a nice break for you guys, and it adds a new dynamic to the channel which should be a lot of fun for however long it lasts... Welcome aboard Hannah!
Thanks, Bruce! Hannah's personality is great and she fits in well! Hope you enjoy this next set of videos! 💙
Ty so much enjoyed it as usual. Amazing footage
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Fun episode. I know the drama is real. No worries. But, to be honest, over here, landlocked, and dreaming of my own boat, it is kinda hard to think y'all are suffering TOO hard! Another beautiful episode! Love the series!
Ha yeah, we get it! It always looks like such a dream out here, even on the bad days! Thanks for coming along with us! Glad you are enjoying our channel! 💙
Groovy episode. Welcome aboard Hanna.
Thanks! We are excited about these next few episodes with Hannah!
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Andre! Hope you are doing great!
I watch 2 other sailing channels and the 2 things I still find amazing are how relatively calm the middle of the ocean is. The next is how y'all must practice black magic, voodoo, or alien technology at the same time to sail into a head wind. But, I still enjoy sailing along vicariously.
Hey, thank you! We appreciate you coming along with us out here. I think we have it pretty good here in the Pacific Ocean, it will be interesting to see what it's like when we get to the middle of the Indian Ocean one day!
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks, Craig!
G'day guy's thanks for another awesome episode and for bringing me along with you on this adventure! Hope your both doing well? Much love.
Hey Danny! Thanks for coming along with us! All good here. How about in Aus? 💙
@@SailingOneLife yep we are all good over here! When are you heading across the Tasmen to here?
Next cyclone season, October-ish!
Thanks
Thank you so much! Happy you are enjoying our channel! 💙
Nice breath in tune Gary,,I get to go see them in July in Bend,, great sailing 😁
Ah so cool! Enjoy the show!
Apia, Samoa became the home of Robert Louis Stevenson until he passed and now buried up near his old house, now a museum. Stevenson and his entourage were passengers on the Equator, a pygmy Schooner, sailed by my late wife's great grandfather Captain Dennis Reid, who married a daughter of the sister of the King of Manihiki! But thats another story!
How cool! So much history there! Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to visit the Robert Stevenson museum while we were there.
Great way to start my morning catching up with my fav utube couple can't wait till yous land in my home land new Zealand watching from Australia
So cool you are watching from Australia! We hope to get there one day!
@@SailingOneLife safe travels guys and Hanna you no Australia is only 2500ish miles from NZ just saying 😉 but the roaring 40's might get alittle bouncy
Yep! Hope to spend next cyclone season there!
Crossing the date line is not so consequential, unless it was going to be your birthday when you cross it. 🎉🎉🎉 🎈🎈🎈 or Christmas 🎄🎄🎄🎁🎁🎁 lol
Have fun in Samoa. She looks like a fun crew member!
So in theory......this isnt a leap year for you guys!!! ;-)
Haha it's so weird!
Great episode! And it looks like the bridle is made with an eye splice, which is not that difficult to do/learn with a three strand rope.
Yep, exactly! I made the replacement with an eye splice and three strand rope!
Crossing the date line is entering the Realm of the Golden Dragon by USN tradition. A ceremony similar to a Shellback initiation was foregone years ago but a certificate like the Shellback one is given to crew. By crossing the equator on the date line you become a Golden Shellback. I did this 6 times while in the Navy. Easier done in a motor boat.
Wow, 6 times?! Incredible! Thanks for your service! 💛
❤❤
Thanks, Bob! 💙
Sorry you had to leave FP before we got there. Would have liked to chat and share a spot. The spirit lives
Ah bummer! Maybe we will see you down the island chain? Fiji perhaps?
@@SailingOneLife sorry again... we have long stay and will be here as long as necessary to get back to the language and music here.last time was 1977 and there is some missed moments to make up. Right now we are sharing an anchorage with SERENDIPITY, 147 foot Perini Navi. Silly old us have the same view as the peeps paying 120K$ a week. Makes me feel so rich in our 42' happy cruising junk.
Got the big yacht wrong... it is SV KAWIL. Only 112'! We got a starlink when asking about wifi connection that said SERENDIPITY
And made a silly assumption. The two boats look very similar and we are far from them. Met crew this morning and got it straight. Still have the same views though :)
SF🔥
⛵💪
Half way through the video you said Hanna never sailed before, wow, some good content to come in the future for sure. haha, y'all take care.
Ha, that's right she had never sailed before! Can't wait to show her transformation!
She'll learn quick. She has good teachers.
🙏🏻...
Thanks, Smee!
~ Bula Bula🌴
Hello :) thank you!
😀😀
💙🌎
Great video thanks for the upload. Is it the first time you’re pulling the spinnaker at night?
We have run with the spinnaker overnight a couple times, but we only do it in ideal conditions. This night was extra ideal with the full moon!
In 1971 I crossed the date line and the equator simultaneously = Golden Shellback. No you guys have them both in your pocket.
Ah such a cool accomplishment! And thank you :) it feels good to be part of the club!
Truth is: You were chasing the sun, fell behind, and got lapped.
Very interesting that you picked a sailing partner without experience. What was your reasoning for that?
We actually didn't give much thought to the fact that she had no sailing experience. There was a time not too long ago when we didn't know how to sail either! Her flexible schedule, motivation to learn and positive personality is what made her a good fit for us!
6:30 what is that shiny object up and to the right? It does not move, just twinkles
Must be a planet!
Cook Islands have an International Airport ?? Boeing 737 can land there
Suwarrow is part of the Northern Cook Islands which is over 600 miles away from Rarotonga which is where the international airport is. So Samoa was closer for us.
@@SailingOneLife ah ok now it makes sense :)
What made you pick someone with no experience?
We all started with our first sail.
Not too long ago, we didn't know anything about sailing. Hannah has a flexible schedule, the motivation to learn, a positive attitude and the right personality for us.
❤❤❤🫶🏻🙌🏼👍🏻
Thanks, Jorge! ❤️❤️
No dude not moved into the future, you were living in the past.
Haha I like this!
