As a patient recovering from ACL surgery I believe the mental side of this is of outermost importance. Pain is not helpful in motivating exercise. Besides it has a detrimental effect on confidence. So therapy poses a physical and psychological challenge as you said so well. Cheers!

I'm two years out from having my acl and meniscus replaced and repaired. I could walk fine after tearing it , but I opted to have surgery to prevent sprains in the remaining good ligaments. What often is not mentioned, is you will likely suffer nerve damage. This is a big part of the muscle loss. I have a palm sized spot on the outside of my shin that has remained numb since the operation. The calf on the repaired leg often feels "pumped". The knee itself still hurts. At times the knee feels good, even great/normal- this is when I'll forget about it and take too big of a step, slip or hyper-extend it. Then I'm back in the brace, looking for cracks in the sidewalk for a few days or weeks. It's very depressing. Before for surgery, my knee might buckle , but other than a moment of embarrassment, I was fine and on with my normal life. Walking on uneven surfaces like grass or a soft boardwalk, tires the knee quickly. On these surfaces I have to pace myself so I don't re-injure it. Honestly, it changed my self-identity from a jet-skier on a sand beach who practiced martial arts and could grit his teeth through anything -to a fragile man made matchsticks and paper mache , watching for those dangerous acorns in the driveway. :(

I feel you bro. I was on my way to being a pro mma fighter. stupidly got on my friends motorbike on a drunk night out. crashed at 90kph. Broke both my wrists and tore my Acl. Had a big op on my left wrist with metal and plates. And months later had my Acl reconstruction surgery. I feel everything you’re describing in my leg. Even today I was out with my girlfriend and had to stop walking because of the shooting pains in the back of my knee. It just feels weak. No matter how tough I try and be. I feel like it just beats me every time. My confidence is super low now. And even tho my goal one day is to be a fighter. It just feels impossible with my leg now. I torn my acl 8 months ago and about 2 months ago I started playing soccer again many people don’t believe I have full acl tear but I have all the paperwork mri to prove it . I started working out at 5 months after the acl tear treadmill and knee strengthening exercises . In between those times I was having severe hip and lower back pain . Did some pt on my hip and back and soon I was playing soccer but with some discomfort , overall I wasn’t in the same level because now I play with more precaution but happy that I was back in the pitch and what I love to do best . Anyways I’m writing this today on Friday may 27th and I just got called earlier that my orthopedic doctor finally got me in for a acl surgery on June 16th 2022 after waiting more than 5 months for surgery . 🤦‍♂️😵.

@@rolandpluzhnikovi5212 Hi yes well basically I play semi pro soccer in a high level and 8 months ago I planted my right leg wrong and my knee patella came out and back in right away . At first X-rays were good and the doctor said it was just patella dislocation cuz my knee didn’t get super swelled up . Couple of weeks went by and i did an mri and confirmed that I had a torn acl and small meniscus tear . 3 months after my injury I started doing knee strengthening and some light workout like jogging because I put on some weight . And after 3-4 months workingout i started running 3-5 miles every other day . I had some pain but my knee never got swollen and the pain wasn’t bad, it was just sore . And now for the past 2 months I’ve been playing soccer and my knee feels ok not super good but enough to play run and kick the ball hard . Anyways I am doing surgery just because my orthopedic and doctor say overtime you can damage other structures like other ligaments meniscus or tendons of the knee and will be more painful if I still want to continue playing sports without surgery . I really think surgery is the best option if you are very active like you say a pro athlete . I also didn’t do any videos to show my improvements of my injury because I was also surprised how good I started feeling after some workouts

So I tore my right knee up, ACL and both sides of my meniscus playing semipro football 4 years ago and had arthroscopic surgery. I hated my physical therapist I felt as though he was rushing me so I stopped going after like a month n a half.. I felt as though I needed electrotherapy on the calf along with the quad, he only focused on my quad. So yes communication wasn’t there. I got a bike, purchased the electrotherapy (shock) thing and took therapy into my own hands, riding the bike everyday, lunges, one leg squats, rubberband exercises.. Communication and patience is key because that pain i believe is one of the worst experiences ever getting back right after surgery omg y’all

I had left ACL reconstruction. From a skateboarding injury and sadly even tho I committed to multiple rounds of PT. We struggled to ever get my knee to fully extend, my knee cap doesn't slide up, my left quad atrophied because I really can't flex it since I can't straighten my leg out to lock my knee and really stabilize and flex my leg. I used to be a hyper spider monkey, jumping over anything, but now I can at least walk and go enjoy walks in the woods with my dogs but I can't jog or juke or run jump, it's been really frustrating. My doctor's are trying to figure out what went off course. They think it might be nerve related, my leg is numb down the middle on the inside half of my leg, but that used to be more pronounced. I just wish I could safely play around again because since I can't stabilize my knee mt PT let me know I got to take it easy until we figure this out, because I even had my PT push down on my leg when laying on a table and could only get my knee to about 2° instead of how it used to lock and hyperextend when in it's joint socket, I can't do that anymore. It's frustrating too because I know friends who had this injury and recovered well so I feel almost like maybe people think I'm just not trying hard enough but in reality in really trying. I at least hike in the woods with my dogs as much as possible to stay active in a way that works for my leg.

I have my left knee ACL full of tares from doing leg extensions after 6 years of training in the gym.
Small pain and cut sensation came slowly, gave me lots of time to get away for a break, but I ignored it, and if that was not enough I kept training to the point where I was knashing my teeth to endure the pain to get my pump and go home.
I tryed hyaluronic and then PRP infiltrations, but only with short lived positive effect. I have a constant inflamatory pain in almost every position in the bed and on chair. Only when standing and walking I'm pain free.

Get an MRI to see if there is actually any damage in the Ligaments tell your Doctor ASAP , im almost 1 year after ACL/MCL surgery in my left knee and I have full ROM and I'm a strong believer in leg workouts now strengthen those ligaments constantly through Physical exercise, I noticed the most results and healing from doing squats until failure and then without taking a break doing a wall sit until failure right after the squats , these 2 exercises alone have strengthened my knee back to a point I thought I would never see after surgery . Take it one day at a time and get that checked out ASAP my surgeon told me everytime your knee buckles or dislocates like you said you do damage to more than just your ACL it hurts sorrounding Ligaments in your knee as well .
