Here's Theo at 4.5 weeks - so progressing into Week 5 of the exercises Rehabilitation program for his left ACL reconstruction.
He is doing great - 120 deg flexion so very comfortable on the bike. For the bike we like to start on week 3, but 1/2 revolutions. You need around 110deg flexion at the knee for a full revolution otherwise you're hitching at the hip.
For the balance work he needs to work on single leg stance and BOSU double leg stance in a semi-squat. Theo is one of those people with a history of poor hip control and weaker glutes in general - which has been a factor in both his ACL ruptures in sport, therefore something we need to work on right now and improve from the get-go. He will need to focus hard on his hip stability through the entire rehab journey - and it starts today.
Hamstring drops and flicks are awesome low level ways of getting the recovering hamstring on board and back into life before the loading phase begins. These exercises also help with quads stiffness, knee flexion ROM and joint awareness following the removal of the ACL.
Stay tuned for part two of his week 5 exercises! coming up!

I'm not an acl patient, but I play one on TV... this helped me tremendously...
This is great! I’m definitely going to purchase this program. This is my second ACL tear and no one has explained any of this too me. What a shame. Thanks! I was just at PT the other day doing single leg balance with my leg straight as a surf board using only my quads for strength and foot for balance and no one said a thing!!!
Very useful for me, thank for sharing
Great video. Thank you
I am also acl surgery patient, this video very useful for me
Nice video!
Thanks ! 😄
Within weeks of my acl surgery in was using the leg extension and leg curl machines. I started off with no weights and now im adding weights every week, my leg is getting stronger and my walking has improved alot because of it. Just working on my knee bend
Hey how are you now?
@MrBrownii13 I'm good my leg is getting stronger, have got some leg size back and have increased the weights over time and now I walk properly and can run as well. My being has improved but not at full flection yet but I will get there in the end
@@duncankabitto3396 great to here ! How Long is the surgery ago ? What Kind of graft and only acl ?
I am Three weeks After surgery .. can walk without crutches but sometimes I feel Like giving in .. is that normal? I guess at that Stage .. because I don’t have muscles so far
@@MrBrownii13 I had my surgery on the 28th of March, I had 3 done acl, pcl and meniscus done
I was thinking I have a menicus tear but maybe it’s a acl? My bottom tibia shin bone turns outward and I think my hip is impinge turning inward. Causing bad KNEE VALGUS!! Patella riding too much on the inside and not in the track.
I been doing your video with the 4 exercises on knees rolling inward and it’s been helping with the pain
Perhaps get that assessed rather than guessing the diagnosis
A day after surgery I was at 50 deg, the following week I got to 120 deg, was able to do bike all the way around on week 2
How are you now?
@@MrBrownii13 back to normal thankfully
@@maximus6791 was it normal for you that your knee gave in sometimes when you started to Walk again? I am Walking at Home Three weeks After surgery. My knee sometimes just feels unstable. I guess that’s because of the missing muscles .. how Long did it Take you to walk normal and Safe again?
@@MrBrownii13 yea man that’s super normal. I think the first month is the toughest. I’d say practice walking as much as possible and do the exercises to strengthen your leg. I think I was limping for like 6 weeks and then started walking normally.
I am 6 weeks into rehab, almost 120+ degree flexion but I’m not able to engage my quads properly. If I try to half sqaut my knee gets a little stiff. Would you mind telling me or making a video on how to engage quads and vmo better.

Hi, I had a meniscus repair and it’s been 9 weeks post op, my surgeon told me there was a damage to cutaneous (skin) nerve during the surgery, I get burning sensation and there is some numbness around the calf area and where the insertions were done - my surgeon told me that it recovers on its own within 6 months or so - is that correct , wanted a second opinion and what else could I do to fully recover the damage ?
I’m at week 5 ACL reconstruction with BTB graft. And the farthest I can go is 60 degrees. My knee is incredibly stiff, and becomes more stiff the more I do. I was cleared for exercises/PT at week 2, I’m very frustrated with not being able to walk or bend at all.
There are various ACL recon. protocols. I will attach one of them that I like to refer to. I hope you get better soon! www.massgeneral.org/assets/mgh/pdf/orthopaedics/sports-medicine/physical-therapy/rehabilitation-protocol-for-acl.pdf
Hope it improves! If you need a new ACL rehab program have a look at physiorehab.com

Perhaps have a look at my rehab program at physiorehab.com
It's my 4th week onely 90deggre I will bend witch week ihave full bend my knee and I'm not walke full leg I'll walke with half leg
hello, I'm 10week post ACL surgery. Can I raise resistance riding stationary bike to a level that my muscles gonna work really hard?
is acl surgery different in USA? where are his scars from the surgery? also i was 6 weeks on cruches after my surgery here in Croatia and he is moving like that after 5 weeks?
It depends on surgery type, acl plus meniscus repair is different than acl tear alone.
We are in Australia, not the USA

Hi I'm professional badminton player I did my ACL surgery before 1 month now I have good bending and balancing , can i start playing tournament after 3 months
No you need to wait till at least 6 months and pass all the return to sport testing as per surgery protocol. For the ACL rehab program and timeline head to physiorehab.com
How are you now?
Can I do this exercises with knee braces?
Sure.
5th week, 95 degree… is it normal?😢
I’m about there myself. PT tells me it’s normal
At least you’re over 90 deg. Keep going!
4th week 80 degree. I am also worried
@@Rsethi3 no problem I’m much better now! Keep practice
6 weeks in from hamstring graft, I have full range of motion... quad and calf exercises are strong... but I can't use my hamstrings at all... excruciating pain in my hamstring on a daily basis.. wake up in the night yelling in pain from severe cramps in hamstring...
This doesn't seem normal to me???
It needs some healing allright. If you need a good rehab program have a look at physiorehab.com
I am currently at week 8,5 post acl surgery, can do squats, bosu ball balances, half Lunges, bicycling and more. How many times per day/week should I go to the gym and train this exercises? I currently am doing it everyday
