There’s nothing I love more than listening to people talk about books they’ve read, whether they’ve enjoyed them or not. People have already commented this, but your reviews are just perfect. They’re well organized/thought out, without spoilers. I’ve read quite a few of these books and it doesn’t matter if I’ve agreed or disagreed, what I loved is that you had thoughts and opinions that helped me see it from a different perspective. Long after the book was finished we kept talking about the book analyzing every aspect of it. He became so excited that he asked to listen to more books with me. It was a bit odd given the content but he was so entertained he said “this villain was better than even Darth Vader” I thought it was a compliment since he’s obsessed with Star Wars. Agatha Christie is amazing. I'm not sure I'd put her in the cozy mystery genre. Rather, many cozy mystery authors try to emulate her (and not always very well). That said, my suggestion for Elyse is is Murder on the Orient Express or Ordeal by Innocence, only because they are among her most well known. But you really can't go wrong with whatever you choose. I love you! I discovered your TikTok account some time ago but didn't know you had a UA-cam channel. I personally prefer UA-cam over TikTok so thank you for taking the effort.
Also, thank you for the book recommendations. I concur with other comments regarding how you express different aspects of the book without spoilers. I've returned to university recently to finish (essentially restart) my Masters degree. So having a list of non-school books to turn to in order to rest my brain is wonderful! And, to have recommendations from a young woman, such as yourself (who reminds me of the 'me' when I was in my 20s back in the '80s) is a plus. I wish I would have known that I was neurodivergent back then. Would have saved me some grief...but knowing now that I'm not broken but different has given me a new lease on life.

Honestly, I think you’d really like ‘A Good Girls Guide to Murder’. It’s a YA mystery trilogy that really grabbed my attention, especially with how it was written. The first book in the series is my favorite and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Just to get you started, the first book is about a girl named Pippa who looks into a local murder-suicide case for her senior year project. She conducts interviews and puts clues together to figure out if the guy who everybody believes is guilty is actually innocent.
I also really love Pippa’s character development throughout the three books and it’s really interesting to look back and see how much she’s changed because of the cases she solves. It’s a super good read if you ever want to check it out!🤩

I suggest Can't Spell Treason Without Tea. It's a fantasy, drama, comedy. I'm not finished with it yet, but so far, it's a fantastic read.
Book description: "All Reyna and Kianthe want is to open a bookshop that serves tea. Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters ... all complemented by love and good company. Thing is, Reyna works as one of the Queen's private guards, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. Leaving their lives isn't so easy. But after an assassin takes Reyna hostage, she decides she's thoroughly done risking her life for a self-centered queen. Meanwhile, Kianthe has been waiting for a chance to flee responsibly -- all the better that her girlfriend is on board. Together, they settle in Tawney, a town nestled in the icy tundra near dragon country, and open the shop of their dreams. What follows is a cozy tale of mishaps, mysteries, and a murderous queen throwing the realm's biggest temper tantrum. In a story brimming with hurt/comfort and quiet fireside conversations, these two women will discover just what they mean to each other ... and the world."

Thanks for the reviews of the books. So glad you discovered and loved Agatha Christie. She's a classic! I highly recommend the Hercule Poirot books. My faves are The Mysterious Affair at Styles, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Peril at End House, Murder on the Orient Express, The ABC Murders, Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun. But honestly, you can't go wrong with any of her books.

Thanks for the recs, it’s so helpful to have a starting point when an author has an overwhelming oevre (I had to look up that word- the question I got when I put in my jumbled mess was what do you call an author’s filmography or discography, and then someone complaining that bibliography was stupid because “a bibliography is ALSO the name for a part of a book and …authors don’t write biblios” 😂). How many “ghosts” would you rate Christie’s books? Are they daytime only reads for a wimp?

Absolutely love your book reviews, Elyse! I usually can’t make it through UA-cam book review videos but yours are so engaging. I highly recommend Ali Hazelwood’s second book, Love on the Brain, it’s one of her earlier ones but it’s so much fun and the romance is adorable. Also, if you’re looking for mystery novels in the same vein as Agatha Christie with just a dash of romance, Sherry Thomas’s Lady Sherlock series is so underrated! It’s got great characters, some neurodivergent coding, and is hysterical an amazing genderbent version of Sherlock Holmes.

I find that reading on a kindle is helpful because the “tap to turn page” action keeps me more engaged. Like Wes Anderson meets Agatha Christie in 1950's English countryside. So many complex and nuanced characters you meet multiple times over the books - you can't help but love this weird little English village and the weird stuff they get up to. Main character is 12 year old Flavia de Luce who is kind of the black sheep of her family cuz she doesn't think and talk and act the way everyone expects her to. It's perfection.
