- This pack of wild dogs got a surprise while hunting; they ran into a huge male lion, and things ended badly for one.

Nhlanhla Nkuna, a guide in Balule Nature Reserve, had front-row seats to these sad sightings. He shared his footage and story with LatestSightings.com.
“We found a huge male lion that was relaxing in the shade of some shrubs when something caught his attention. A steenbok! He jumped up, but before realizing what was happening, the little buck had disappeared into the bushes.”
The question was: why was the steenbok running? Was something chasing it? The lion, now still at attention, looked in the direction of where the steenbok had come. That’s when he saw a pack of wild dogs running at full speed; they had been chasing the steenbok and were completely unaware of the danger next to right next to them, which was now well hidden in the bushes.
“As soon as the first dog came around the bush, the lion pounced. He caught the wild dog off guard and grabbed it by the throat. The wild dog let out a squeal and a whimper. He was caught, and there was no way he could do anything about it.”
“The other two members of the pack came rushing in as soon as they heard the screams. They realized that one of their members had been caught, and if they stood any chance of getting him back, they would need to intimidate the lion. There was no way they would win a physical battle, so the two dogs began barking and growling at the lion.”
“The huge male, who knew that the dogs could not harm him, just kept his grip firm on the wild dog’s throat. At that point, the wild dog gave his last kick, and a small whimper of its last breath came out, and his life came to an end. The other dogs, clearly defeated, just stood and watched on.”
Lions will take any opportunity to kill potential competition for food. Anything from leopards to hyenas, wild dogs, and even cheetahs is fair game. The less competition there is, the more prey the lions have for themselves. As sad as it is, it is the harsh reality of the wild that these animals call home.

Yes ...! What a catch 😮
It's more for the size difference.

I'm shocked that the wild dogs didn't at least attempt to nip the lion. They were so scared to get near him.
Probably because it's a male lion. Even 15 hyenas run from one.

Even hyenas can only tickle a lion with their supposedly "superior" jaws. Wild dogs can't do anything to a lion. Only very old lions and lion cubs are in danger.
The way the lion looks back like, "Yeah you ain't gon do shit!"
😂😂😂
I'm in awe of the survival instincts displayed by these animals
2:22 in all my time watching videos about wild dogs, that's the first time I heard one actually bark like a dog.
They actually bark a lot at night. I live a village and there are African wild dogs in many of the forests and mountains nearby. During the night, they get closer to human settlements for food, especially during winter season and if you live in a house on the outter parts of the village, you will hear all kinds of night sounds including their barks, which is completely different from that of domestic dogs. Domestic dogs have much louder barks than African wild dogs.
@AFROPOLYMATH That sounds awesome! Do you hear hyenas as well? I love those animals, to me the spotted hyenas are the sound of Africa!
Lol i didnt notice this but it does stand out
Yah, I also😂
Too scared to bark like a wild dog, he thought the lion would overlook his yelping.
The lion is so dominate; it doesn't even look back. The ultimate sign of disrespect. Like you're not even there.
The lion is trans. The dogs are phobes. That’s why he attacked dog.
My newborn is trans
There’s “male lions mating at Kruger national park“ video. Just an example lmao
there,s “the ndhzenga male lions“ video lmao
There’s ”male lion mates with another male” lmao
It was a mercy killing, as compared to how wild dogs slowly tear their preys apart
Lions do the same to elephant calves, hippos, and buffaloes. Heck even impala and other normal prey sometimes, all carnivores eat prey alive if it's restrained.
@@doktorhyenavery true, but rarely on prey that can be killed via choking.
@@doktorhyena That’s not accurate framing. Lions do that ON OCCASION but most of the time they kill their prey first. Wild dogs on the other hand never kill their prey first and always start eating immediately.
It’s a more gruesome way to go but the prey dies faster then slowly being suffocated.
@@doktorhyena You forgot to mention warthog. Lions eat warthog alive. And how lions eat the genitalia of the animal first while it’s still alive. All these things happen too often
The expression on the lion's face is classic. "REALLY, guys? Are you serious???"

Nature's dramas unfold in breathtaking fashion in this video
WIld dogs have never experienced such an a opponent. They don´t even dare to nibble.
This video transports us into the heart of the wild, where every moment is a battle.
Nothing bothered the lion he didn’t give a fk about nothing and just walked away
They would be fools to try to stop him. He’s very fast and if he gets one of them two of their pack is dead.
Turning his back on them and taking his sweet time!
It's just four dogs. Not much they can reasonably do.

Bad 😂lion
So insane how large that lion is compared to anything else. What a terrifying predator.
Lion was like "Get the hell Outta here unless you wanna be next in line"
So sad to see a wild dog lose its life given how endangered they are but such is nature.
Why are they endangered when they're such great hunters? Poachers? Scavengers stealing their food? Lack of food?

The sheer power & confidence of a male lion is astonishing!
Wow, that lion is HUGE.
This is the clearest embodiment of the quote "A lion does not care about the opinions of sheep." but wild dogs in this case 😂
It's difficult to survive an adult lion bite to the neck
Lion is like, "Damn, can I eat in peace?"
An incredible showcase of nature's power and resilience
The big male needed just one paw to jolt the wild dog and bring it down. It almost seemed effortless. Such raw power the male lion possesses.
02:23 - And for the first time I heard a single bark from these wild dogs.
Yeah. So they CAN bark !
The lion didn't hesitate one bit. It had no care in the world.
He was an OG in a turf war.
The lion cares as much about the rest of the pack like a typical HR dept cares for it's employees.

Lions attitude 🙏
THE LION WAS SO DOMINATE THE DOGS WERE MORE INTIMIDATED NOT TO ATTACK.
I'm captivated by the tactics and strategies these animals employ in their battles
How easily he caught the hotdog with just one arm.. effortless
The way how that lion just casually walks away, with the dog in his mouth. Brute strength.
Those claws are lethal is what preventing the dog from scaping death by thick black mane
Lion looks back and says. Don't make me come over there😂

The lion's head is as big as a whole dog! And how tall and massive he stands. The most impressive big cat for me.
Its more like they are cursing the lion to annoy him and go after them instead - as soon as lion stops for a sec they are in flight mode, probably thinking "here he comes, be ready to run" haha
I don't think I have seen a wild Lion that big. He's been eating good.
With all that area to run in, what made the wild dog run directly into the lion's mouth?
It almost looked like it was trying to play. Waging its tail the whole time.

The struggle for dominance is both beautiful and brutal in this stunning footage
The dog looks happy judging by his wagging tail 😂
I'm surprised that the lion's "back side" was not vulnerable to rows of serrated teeth.
Yes, but then again, the dogs know they weren't dealing with an antelope or wildebeest - a male lion is something that, apparently even they realize, is a losing battle.
Never heard wild dogs make that sound before. It's almost like a laser beam infused with a dog bark.
It's just how it goes in the wild, but I feel for those poor dogs losing their pack mate.
It's the most terrible mistake to mess up with the King's territory, as the wild dog found out.... only but...too late.
Way too late...!
To his credit that dog held on for a long time despite the lion's grip
It's crazy how the predator with the highest success rate when it comes to hunting can easily become prey to larger animals. Bcuz of their size, they have to eat their prey quickly, even when it's still alive before a larger predator steals their kill
great footage but sad
"I am not ready for seconds yet I have to finish the first one"

This isn't hunting. It's a display of dominance. He may even just leave the carcass.

Wild dogs in packs usually still nip at the ends of stronger opponents. But clearly this male is HUGE and strong, potentially in his prime. Approaching meant choosing death.
Dog in lions mouth: "good job guys thanks alot!"
I was really expecting one of the dogs to give this lions balls a big bite and pull to save their compadre. I guess none of them were willing to take the risk of being next when the lion releases his grip. At total odds because usually they’d stay as far away as possible from that beast of a cat
