- The Tren Maya Station in Playa Del Carmen is open, and the trains are running between Playa Del Carmen and the Cancun Airport. In this video we take you on a tour of the Tren Maya Station in Playa Del Carmen, we show you what the train is like between Playa Del Carmen, and we talk about the connection to the Cancun Airport. We will also talk about the general state of the Tren Maya now for March 2024 and details about taking the train.
Our experience in the Riviera Maya has been the past 15 years exploring and getting to know it. So we are able to give you a little more details of the area. We also have been working on other Tren Maya videos. This video is the 3rd in a series of videos about the Tren Maya. Since the train is so new, it is changing almost monthly, so we are updating readers and followers about the updates and new services of the Tren Maya.
For more of the details in this video, such as hours of the train, prices, parking, connections and more, see our article here: everythingplay...

Keep in mind most of the trains are still getting built. The few running ones cannot reach their maximum speed, because the tracks need to settle first. Also, there is still a lot of construction going on and service will improve when everything it’s done. Let’s see this as a practice when everything is ready. Hopefully by the end of the year. Thanks for the info.
You're right Sir
Right now, they only have 5 or 6 trains running and the others (there will be 42) trains are being built. The trains are stretched thin because they are in use all the time and if something goes wrong, there are no replacement. they are also running the diesel trains now because the electrical cables are not ready. So, there are a lot of things in the works still.
@@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencom that’s totally right. I’m glad you are very well informed therefore your criticism is totally valid. Your information helps people a lot even though things are going slow. Too much misinformation out there.
In other words, poor planning and executuion.
@@jmac3327 well don't come to Cancun
This thing seems like a money losing proposition for the Mexican taxpayer in addition to the ecological damage that's already been inflicted.
It appears other criteria have been used to justify its construction.
Perderá Xóchitl, lo siento por ti 😂
@@envaz1023 Really, Sheinbaum the atheist church destroyer has already ensured her defeat. Maybe Morena still has time to replace her with a top-notch candidate like Zaldίvar.
Yup, AMLO needed to build a monument to himself after the Mexico City airport debacle.
There are already highways and many more under construction, the train isn't the biggest problem.
@@samsongomah1318such a stupid comment.
What's the point of serving the airport but not allowing luggage?!
What’s the point of a train going to airport if you can’t take luggage’s?LOL
Exactly!
I can’t wait to ride the train myself sometime soon! Thanks for the video.
Waiting to take it will probably gain you a better experience. Things should flow better when everything is up and running and people get used to taking the train.
Me too! ❤

@@almacarranza5816 VULKAN,
Great informative video thanks.
Seems a bit backward not allowing larger bags since it goes to/from airport. Maybe this will change in the future.
That said it’s a useful improvement.
This is when it would be good if the Tren Maya had online customer service to give more details about policies. We have been contacting them for the past three months and never received a reply. The official policy is one bag 65cm x 55cm x35 cm and weighing up to 25kg. and one computer bag or purse. The tickets do say that excess baggage can be shipped by an external company. It seems like that would not be too strict on this policy coming from the airport, but as you saw in the video, imagine 24 people with a big bag and a carry-on fitting onto that half of the train car.
Yesterday they delivered train number 8, the 7 is already in testing, the 8 can still be tested, in a month both train number 7 and number 8 will come into function
No luggage on a train. Would love to know which genius made that decision.
Can you spell white elephant?
As much use as a chocolate teapot 🫖
Great video. The suitcase thing will change. It's proposterous not to be able to take check in luggage. 😂😂
Nada me sorprende Mike! 😅 saludos!!

@@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencom Yeah but not all the riders will have those big bags. I had little problems with big bags in Europe where they had bag storage areas and anyways trains getting crowded was just a part of life there, especially in places like Italy. Better to get somewhere uncomfortably rather than not at all, and better to have people actually ride the train than not at all
@@justinskaggs9751 We cannot imagine they will enforce too strictly, or they might revise the policy. I know what you mean about trains in Italy. I was on a packed train that has automatic sliding doors between cars, and it was so packed that the doors were held open by people up against them. The doors kept wanting to close. That went on for about an hour before there was enough people getting off. But it is true, when you want to get somewhere, it is better uncomfortable and get there then not sometimes.
The luggage restrictions doesn't make sense. My plan was that in my future trips I would simply catch the train from the airport to playa del carmen....
The Tren Maya does need to visit their policies, but the main thing right now is the limited three trains a day from the airport to Playa Del Carmen. This will be better in the future, but for now, it is very limited.
TREN MAYA
NOT TRAIN MAYA, OR MAYA TRAIN
I think you should change the title to NO LUGGAGE ALLOWED ON TREN MAYA
That’s just crazy that you can’t being a suitcase - it’s pointless then

I totally agree with you! I thought we were going to use the train for 85% of our travel around Mexico! I’m so shocked about the no luggage aspect
Avoid taxis people, buses in Mexico are top notch, some even have personal tv.
Great job, no fluff, just good info
Thank you! Can't wait to take the train!
This train line makes no sense! A train is supposed to be faster than a car!
It is in test yet! Thats why it is not as faster as it could be. Next year it will be faster…
Thanks for showing this amazing areas about Tren Maya🇲🇽👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
Thanks, specially for the luggage limitation. It is a dumb setup, if you are travelling long you need luggage and yeah the current setup does not really work for tourists other than niche adventuring
Blame 4T
NOT ONE WORD about the cost ???
We added that to our article here: everythingplayadelcarmen.com/tren-maya-is-like-from-playa-del-carmen-to-cancun-airport/ There are four types of tickets and two classes, so there are a few prices to go over. We also added a lot of details in the article so people can see and read details of this video.
Thanks for the video. Bummer on the luggage rule. I was stoked to ride it on the way to the airport next month.
We do not think it will be enforced very strickly but at any rate, the bigger issue is the limited number of trains per day between the airport and Playa Del Carmen. Currently there are only three trains and that makes it hard to line up a flight arrival with one of three trains. The route south of Playa Del Carmen has been delayed until August, so that means there probably will not be more trains operating on this route for a while.
Unless they start allowing Suitcases then I don't know why they even bothered building a station by the Airport. I was excited about this train and now I a very disappointed.
We have been out riding the rails sort of speaking and we have found some good things and some disappointing things. Our last trip on the train lefts us at the station waiting and then taking a bus back because the train stopped working. They keep saying it is in "pre opening" stage but at some point, everything should work better.
This is ridiculous I got very excited about the route from the airport to PDC except the train is not at the airport and the stop is not in PDC where most people want to go. Taxi extortion continues to win in Mexico 🤔
Even if the train can get the time down to half an hour, it will be longer than taking the ADO bus. There still is the option with private transfers that are not taxis. This is what we recommend most of the time since it is door to door service and many of the hotels are not near the bus station in Playa.
Thank you for the detailed explanations. 14:26
More questions than answers 😮
Do you have questions or are you referring to the unknowns of how the Tren Maya will operate in the future?
may be mexico could build the california train?
So before all animals walking around now they dot have any cross bridges for animals 😢it’s so bed
There are under passes for animals also for farmers that have underpasses for farm animals. Both sides of the tracks have wire fences about 7 feet tall. Some portions, like the one from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen, is mostly built 5 meters above ground on columns with very open space underneath. This is not ideal, but how it is. There is also the 305 Highway from Playa Del Carmen to Nuevo Xcan that was newly built. It also has underpasses and spider monkey bridges. We believe we have also seen spider Monkey bridges on the Tren Maya, but we are not sure. Thesa are the facts. However, we have been consistent with our articles and videos to mention some of the negative things and positive we had concern when the project started and during the time until now. This video is more about how the train works between these two locations and not a full back story to the project and construction.
Too bad for you! You should be vegan and not use any product tested in animals like makeup, shampoos, almost everything... no leather... no regular soaps.. no plastics that end up in the ocean and kill animals.. no meat in your meals etc 😊
I’m absolutely shocked to hear we can’t ride the train with luggage, we had been planning to take the train for 85% of our trip around Mexico in June/July….. but sounds like we are back to buses… I’m so shocked, I would’ve assumed lots of tourists would be travelling with luggage from one location to the next…. Or can you take luggage on other routes such as Valladoid to Merida?
Take the ADO bus. They are clean, fast and actually have a real schedule. The Military Train will dump you far from your destination.
You can ride the train with luggage but not to big.
The train sounds pretty useless if you can't take luggage along. Unless they change that policy, I suspect the project will be unsuccessful.
A ti no😂
I'm happy it's now going to Playa ! But is it me, or are all seats facing the wrong direction, or it just depends on what direction you're going? I get major motion sickness when I sit in the opposite direction 😢
Since the train does not turn around, half the time it will be facing the wrong way.
@@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencom Oh my!! Good to know!
There are trains with seats in the opposite direction and trains with the normal seats direction. Check it at the moment you buy your tickets and choose the one of your preference.
Thanks so much for this excellent review. I usually take the ADO from CUN to Valladolid but this upcoming trip I may try the Train Maya - if it lines up with my schedule that is. I really appreciate your level of detail re the coordination and logistics. I will also try to spend a few days in PDC for the first time this trip as well. Have just subscribed to your channel and will enjoy watching your other videos. Cheers!
Thank you for watching and following along. Unfortunately, as it stands now, you have to go from Playa Del Carmen to Cancun and then over to Valladolid and then a taxi into town from the train station. It takes longer and cost more but is comfortable and a new experience. The next phase of the Tren Maya will soon open and that should increase schedules and ridership a little. We will be making more videos as the new routes open.
Whoever did the logistics for this train system is a more ron
4T made it
Do they allow a service dog?
Yes, certified service animals.
Excellent point about baggage. None of the other videos informed us that you can't have a suitcase. That answers that. So which trains are facing backwards. I want to use the train, but refuse to face backwards.....major migraine watching things get smaller. Hated it in Europe.
We do imagine this policy will be updated about the luggage. Many of the policies need to be refined. As far as the seats, it is random which trains arrive and which are facing forward. Most of the trains end at a station and simply go the other direction, so no turning the train around nor do the seats flip to face the other way like some trains have. We are not sure if during the booking process it shows which way the seats are facing.
You can choose the train of your preference, some trains have the seats as you want and others have it in the opposite way. You need to check it at the moment you buy your tickets.
I can't believe, it is not allowed to bring big pieces of luggage on the train. That is so stupid and more if you are coming from the airport. They are shortening the amount of users and that means loss of money. Bad business decision in there. So stupid really. It is logic that if you are coming from station that is close to the airport, many tourist and locals are going to use that a option of transportation.
Thanks for the info.
Cant understand why they put the playa del carmen station far from the beach where most people convene. #mindboggling
Warning: Dear international visitor, it’s highly suggested not boarding, the now famous , 'Tren Maya' while travelling Yucatan Peninsula, it’s infraestructure has not proved being safe. Do it at your own risk.
Perché non è sicuro?😮
@@BonnieClyde-t2p Bad construction practices.
Did you notice how AMLO has no Guardia National for Guerrero or Tabasco (narcos are people, too), but he has plenty of GN to guard the monument he built for himself?
What are you talking about? Who says so?
@@BonnieClyde-t2p the tren maya is safe. No worries. Most of the people have had good experience.
This video has been helpful. Im heading to Progreso in July and I'd like to catch Tren Maya to Playa Del Carmen. Sounds like i would need to catch the Ado to Meridia. Do you a video showing the ride from Meridia to Playa Del Carmen? Any help you can provide will be awesome. Thanks for the content!
So now when I’m coming to airport Cancun I’m can used train from airport to play de Carmen?
It would be nice if you could add Spanish subtitles. A lot of Mexicans would like to know this information as well, especially when traveling and coming or going from the airport. thank you.
We have plenty of videos and info in Spanish and a lot of Mexicans can speak English too, thanks for your comment! 😁
How much is the bus from the Cancun Tren into Cancun itself?
There is the ADO bus and it is 130 pesos to the bus station in the downtown.
Please don't use this assault on the environment.
This white elephant is a disaster. The route is nonsensical, delays are the rule and very few people seem to be interested in using it. It has been jammed through sensitive ecosystems against many court injunctions. It is under control of the Army because it has been declared a matter of national security. You will see a heavy military presence everywhere, which is very disturbing.
Fortunately, the jungle will cover this bad idea over within a decade.
Interesting take on some of the things associated with the Tren Maya.
Yes, He should be using the highways (plenty of them in the peninsula), which have a bigger environmental impact than a train.
jaja.... why have a train scheudle? seems very slow. nonetheless, thank you for sharing.
It is slowly improving each month. Many of the things we commented on in past videos has been somewhat improved. We are hoping for the best but will see. We will have another video soon about the Tren Maya.
@@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencom please don't SIMP for a train.
Hey bud random guy watching your videos. They're ok not bad.
Suggestion...on one of your videos you said.
Only Mexican nationals using train now.
Do you use that same term when talking about U.S. citizens?
We use that term for several reasons. One of the types of tickets is nationals, but not those that live in the 5 states where the train passes. If we used Mexicans or citizens, it would not be correct. Also, how Spanish is phased and how it is translated at times, this term comes up. We honestly have never thought anything about it and just use it because it seems to be the best description. We hope you were not offended or thought anything else from the use of that term.
Oh, a train from and to the airport and you cannot bring luggage on it? Haha very well planned 🤣 Like everything in this government hahahaha
Y eso es más de lo que hicieron en 80 años el PRI y el PAN, imagínate, por eso no van a volver al poder jamás
To be fair there are bags allowed but there are restrictions. The sizes are basically carryon and a computer bag or purse. We cannot imagine at the airport the Tren Maya being very strict with this, but we also feel that some of the policies of the Tren Maya need to be flushed out. We have been trying to contact the Tren Maya for three months now and never have we gotten a response. There are other questions about policies, but most likely as things move forward will things be fully explained.
@@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencomtrue, they need to allow. I think I have the email for customer service. Did they answer you yet?
The designers of the Tren Maya have the collective intelligence of a traffic cone. An express toll highway (Cuota) parallel to 307 and along the coasts would have been a much more efficient solution to relieving congestion and improving tourism to these areas.
Originally the train was going to follow the 307 Highway. they had even cut trees and were starting site work. Then the plan changed. Part was discrepancies with the construction company. We have seen firsthand many things that prevent the Tren Maya from taking off and being more effective for transportation. We still have some hopes for the Tren Maya but it is even more delayed now for the full route. Our predictions from two years ago are coming true.
