Hey Jimmy I'm 14 year old I make Things and i have videos on my UA-cam channel but you are the biggest influence on my life you are like a dad to me that I can't talk to. My dad dose not know how to use tools or anything. I'm self taught and everything but just watching your videos gives me joy. Thanks for everything even tho you didn't relize you did anything. Ps I've watched All your videos
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me
EXACTLY! lol.. Usually I go into the garage and just stare at my tools.. get pissed off because I can't find anything, do some cleaning up, then return to my computer.. lmao.. eventually I hope to spend more time there than here.
Man-o-man... You make such simple things into absolute works of art. I can't even do with Silly Putty what you do with metals. I love watching your work.
+jimmydiresta it is wrong for them to dislike it because they don't have them. I love wood working and building things every since my papa and other grandpa taught me about it. I wish I had some of the tools u have but I'm also 16 and hopefully have a life ahead of me where I can aquire them myself.
If you are doing much woodwork this defeniedly makes it easier because you have to resharpen the chisels pretty often. (especially when you are working with hardwood)
***** Yeah I've got to pick up something like that. Hand-sharpening plane irons has actually caused me to largely quit using hand tools. It's just too monotonous.
Well, even with the angle jigs and glass surfaces to make sure the bevels and edges are right, it's just so soul-crushingly dull that I find myself leaving them alone and using powertools.
Robbie Jeffcott Looks like a Veritas Power Sharpener. Great tool, very popular with woodworkers. www.leevalley.com/US/Wood/page.aspx?p=48435&cat=1,43072
I recently bought a tool box at an estate sale that has a chisel just like this in one of the drawers. Smaller in size, but the exact same mushrooming, rust and poor quality. I was thinking I might use for scrap but now I think I'll put it back to rights as a chisel again. Thanks for the great video Jimmy!
Great job Jimmy,i like the chisel. I don't care that it is not up to par according to the other comments, it your peace and your design, i think of it as art work not necessarily a 100% functional tool. I get so inspired by your work and just gives me motivation to start and try to make pieces of art like you have.
Nice! Never would have thought of a brass handle. I did a similar project on a mortising chisel and used oak that, as it turned out, was a bit too green. Shrank up and now I need to do a repeat. Can't imagine that happening with brass!
This video inspired me to buy and restore some 100+ year old hand planes. I didn't do anything to this extent, but I took them from broken/unusable to pretty nice tools. So, thanks for the inspiration.
jimmydiresta I think the chisel looks awesome and is in much, much, much better shape that it was at the beginning of the video. I do have the same concern as some of the other viewers. The handle is made of a soft brass. I know you can make the argument that it is only for looks or that it will only be used in the manor you demonstrated (w/o a hammer), but you and I know that sometimes, the closest tool is the best tool for the job. It might get hammered in the future. Might I suggest drilling a hole thru the center of the brass handle and insert a solid steel (or any durable metal) core cylinder into it. Maybe also include a steel end cap. Thank you for your video, time, and consideration. I love your videos.
Dave Stone Thank you Dave for your constructive criticism. You are well versed in the art of conversational techniques. If you keep that up, you'll go far in life.
Hey D😎, That's a cool chisel. I used to play with those as a kid lol haha. It look really old. But, you did your magic it made it look new again better than it did when it came off the assembly floor.wow. you really come up with some good content on your videos. I really enjoy watching them. You have been a big inspiration to me. I'm starting now to "MAKE" things, after 45 yrs. and sickness. So, if you have things that your not using send them my way or your fans on here. They will be going to good home. For me and my son(that works on cars, he's a welder fabricator and paint & body guy.) Thanks 😊 for your support. Keep'em coming D😎
jimmydiresta absolutely wonderful , i really enjoy all of your videos, most of them i like the respect you handle the tools and the materials , i am just starting setting up a small shop , and all of your videos are a true inspiration , thank you very much !!! greetings from Greece.
Snazzy upgrade of an old beater tool. I did an almost identical chisel but with a Bacote wood handle but I really like the brass one Jimmy that is so cool looking.
Absolutely love your videos Jimmy. Makes me want to have a go and making or restoring something. What you did then with that old chisel was brilliant. Keep the videos coming mate
Cool stuff as always! I actually did a similar thing with a chisel I got for a couple of bucks at a second hand shop. Wasn't mushroomed quite as badly as that one, but it did have the wood from the old handle lodged in there. I got it out by drilling a long drywall screw into the wood, and grabbing hold of the remaining section with a pair of linesman pliers and tapping them with a hammer. Seemed to do the trick! Although I wish I could say the replacement handle looked as nice as this one
Excellent Job..Jimmy...Thanks for share with..I´d like it so much..and the conbination is Perfect..Chisel with brass..!! Greeting from Argentine.! Steve.
Incredible work Jimmy. Not that you need my affirmation but I like the resurrection of an old chisel. All the comments out here picking you apart are comical. As always, I enjoy your videos.
I love the fact that there are people in the comments section with the balls to question how he did this. The man is a 30+ year veteran of the trade with a considerable reputation for excellent work. The people who decide to criticize his build have a screwdriver they brought 10 years ago and that one time a screw came loose on a desk they managed to tighten it. They now think they have the authority to question a true craftsman's work. The next person who decides to tell Jimmy how to "suck eggs" should proudly upload and link their works and show us all the numerous pieces of work they have had commissioned by big businesses. Jesus people - before you decide to type a comment think to yourself "If I was face to face with the creator of this video would I have the balls to say this" and also "what accolades and expertise have I earned to even begin to question somebody with Jimmy's background". God damn UA-cam parasites.
What kind of accolades do you have?? If you are going to share your work online you are going to have to accept the criticism. I’m sure he isn’t bothered by it as much as you are. Jeez.
Great looking chisel, this is tied for my favorite the other being the treasure chest. I love watching your videos because its something new every time. The handle is fantastic and its really distinct, keep it up jimmy!
Just rewatched this cause I saw the unboxing video... would really like to see what you traded for... so curious. Great stuff Jimmy, your a rock star...
Hey Jimmy astounding job restoring this piece to its former glory quick question could you do a tips and tricks video for the lathe or maybe a router?? Would be greatly apprititave thanks Man!
All the people that nit pick your videos drive me insane. Especially when they NO videos of their own. Hell they've probably never even made anything remotely close either. Duchebags need to get a life! Awesome work as always!
Very nice hand chisel .some people think you need to beat it with a big hammer those people would destroyed it by cutting nails..you did an awesome job jimmy
I like the work! It seemed like a heavy grind on the chisel. Did you worry about losing the temper? I am not sure occasional compressed air would be enough to keep it cool. I suppose the worst that happens is you sharpen it more often.
I've been listening to your Making It podcast. I enjoy it all. Between the cast and your channel I've learned a lot. You've inspired me to start making stuff. Keep them coming!
12/20/23 the famous chisel you gave away. 2:23 you always rocked that Rolex it was a signature of yours still is. 3:27 the mk.II sharpening system. 5:04 alone with you by faron young. 6:55 such a incredible piece 9:00 killed it
+jimmydiresta could you do a quick start video on what you need to get started with welding, mainly interested in incorporating some metal work into my wood working. Think the style, pace and humour of your videos is great, particularly like the tips videos as they show a wealth of learnt experience over time! nice job!
A friend of mine is ur student and she recommended me to watch ur video. I was sooooooo fascinated especially that AK47-guitar from previous episode. Keep up the good work Jimmy.
Interesting revival of an old slick . . . thanks for sharing!

That is one slick, slick Jimmy. LOVE seen old tools find new life!
thank you brother!
Pure dead brilliant
Izzy your definitely right
P.s. Love both of your videos
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Desmond Fox Instablaster :)
Solid brass to match
the chisel's mass!
Jimmy's takin' names
and kickin' ass!
золотые руки слов нет. огромное уважение к таким людям.
Whenever I am having a bad day, I just watch a DiResta video and feel talent-less at making things, but nice and inspired inside.
EXACTLY! lol.. Usually I go into the garage and just stare at my tools.. get pissed off because I can't find anything, do some cleaning up, then return to my computer.. lmao.. eventually I hope to spend more time there than here.

Thank you !!!!
L8RAlligator simple ?? A chisel ist everything but not simple... Deal with it.
Nice job as usual, there's nothing more satisfying than giving new life to an old tool.
That blew me away, brass handle on a chisel. Love it.
Thanks Jimmy! "Just in time inspiration" for another freezing Sunday morning in my garage looking at all my junk and contemplating what to make.
185 people have disliked this video. What is there to dislike? I could watch this man all day.
+paul day thank you!' Had tools are very touchy subject.
+jimmydiresta had tools?
+Do Subie with the Suburban Derek come on you know he meant hand :)
+jimmydiresta it is wrong for them to dislike it because they don't have them. I love wood working and building things every since my papa and other grandpa taught me about it. I wish I had some of the tools u have but I'm also 16 and hopefully have a life ahead of me where I can aquire them myself.
he's wearing a Rolex while working wtf
Well done - love the contrasting metals
That sharpening jig is one of the most insanely specific tools I've ever seen. Wow! I kinda want one and maybe chisels, too.
If you are doing much woodwork this defeniedly makes it easier because you have to resharpen the chisels pretty often. (especially when you are working with hardwood)

Yeah I've got to pick up something like that. Hand-sharpening plane irons has actually caused me to largely quit using hand tools. It's just too monotonous.
Yeah and they don't stay plain if you hand sharpen them.
Loved how it turned out. Great job!!!
That chisel is a work of art !!!

Beautiful craftsmanship! (as usual) Nice to see a second life for this chisel.

Dave, i hear it's best to run a burn like that under water for around 10 - 15 minutes...
This type of chisel is for hitting with your hand.
Dave Stone Sorry mate, don't have that kind of time to waste ;)

I watch all of your videos and I got to say you inspire me to think outside the box great job I have learned so much thank you
Great to see an old tool put back in use.
Really nice job you done on the chisel Jimmy. And I like the machined brass handle and polished after.

I like the work! It seemed like a heavy grind on the chisel. Did you worry about losing the temper? I am not sure occasional compressed air would be enough to keep it cool. I suppose the worst that happens is you sharpen it more often.
Awesome as always. I would have a hard time using a tool that so much time and effort went into making it so beautiful. Then again it is a tool.
Brass handle is almost too pretty to use. Very nice job on both tool and video! Thanks, Bill.
That is a work of art. Awesome man.
vraiment tres beau travail merci pour ce beau video
Very cool project Jimmy 👍👍👍
I've been listening to your Making It podcast. I enjoy it all. Between the cast and your channel I've learned a lot. You've inspired me to start making stuff. Keep them coming!

Dayum! Solid brass handle for a chisel? Lol, I'll subscribe...nice work
Wow. If I just saw the before and after without watching the video, I would have thought that you had bought a new chisel.
I love how you use your lathe like an Etch A Sketch

Very Nice! You ' re the Best! Thank you!
Is there something you can't do Jimmy...lol...AWESOME !!
