This hatchet head was from the flea market. 10$. This handle was inspired by many tools from the late 1800's.. wood is rose wood... the handle is cold rolled steel.

I love how art meets function on this channel
If you listen closely, you can hear wranglerstar developing an ulcer.
HAHA!!
Good one sir!
AH!
gimp cage creaks open
But is it worse than the fiskars axe handle? We need a wrangerstar tool head to head, old vs new, to find out.
Good job Jimmy. My favorite part was when you used a drill and the metal band saw to turn down the steel rod stock. Never seen that before!
Got a old norlund hatchet from my dad a few months ago. I am in the process of making a new handle and refinishing and polishing the head. thanks for the great videos. Inspired me to redo this hatchet for my dad. keep up the great work man.
That's a work of art Jimmy! Has to be one of my favorite videos of yours. Awesome!!
+RetroWeld thank you brother!
Dido! that was sweet!
Awesome Original Axe Design!!
what makes you the best are not only your skills, but the fact that the things you make are just beautiful... a pleasure to watch you, as usual.
A thing of beauty! I love the wedge material reversal for keeping the head on. Awesome work as always Jimmy!
That's an awesome project. Makes me think of an old buck knife with wooden scales.
Yes! Exactly.
I had that same thought. It would be awesome if they still made their knives this well.
Thank you Brother!
Jimmy for president! Just give him a band saw and he will make the world a better place!
*and a dirty hatchet head
Well beats all the other candidates... thought huge ass asteroid might be tough one to beat, in more sane states...if there is any...
Amazing work, as always. You are the most inspiring individual on UA-cam to me.
JD... you never cease to impress me... and/or amaze me. Great job.
Man, that thing just looks like it would be a pleasure to hold in your hand....great looking lines, Jimmy. Cheers!
Tx bro!!
+jimmydiresta I didn't know u reply to ur viewers omg I'll become a fan boy BTW fantastic hatchet handle its perfect !
+Muhammed Ibrahim hahah thank you !!
+jimmydiresta OMG CAN I DIE I got replied😎 BTW I am from Pakistan if u don't know where it is search it
Muhammed Ibrahim Don't die, dude!
Now that is a bad ass Axe! Love the videos keep up the great work Jimmy!
more like badaxe
its obviously a hatchet 😂😂
It's a hand-axe, not a hatchet. Hatchets have square heads
+Jack Hadaki does it really matter, to many people a hatchet is a short handled axe
yes it matters, to many people many things are innacurate, lets become more knowledgeable and not more like many people.
That turned out exceptional. I like how seamless the wood inserts look!
You have no idea how much inspires me, see your videos is like an injection of creativity in my life. Thanks for everything mr DiResta. ;)
I'm amazed with your work, I would like to be like you 😊😊😊
I just found you and I already watched a lot of your videos.
(Sorry, I can't speak English well)
+Karen Castañeda thank you !!!!
PERFECT!
Thank you !!

You are one-of-a-kind Craftsman, Thank you.
After all these years, you never cease to impress Jimmy !!
Whenever Jimmy feels like want to remove some of his arm hair, he just makes a new axe

That is beautiful!!
The Steel Rivets joining the Steel handle could have been better.... Countersink too deep or not swaging the rivets deep or mushroomed enough...
@@nigelbeaumont1109 don't.
Jimmy...you never cease to amaze me!! I love watching you make this stuff!! Keep these cool videos coming buddy!! Awesome job!
Love the integration of the wood, beautiful piece!
last time I was this early Hillary still had those emails.
i can hear Wranglerstar crying from here!
Wranglerstar blocked me for asking a question about kids ??
he said kids in a video ...but he only has Jack...maybe he has a family from before. (ex wife and kids)
he is a strange man
He's weird
+Eye Toldyoosso That may have been Mrs. Wranglerstar. She is really big on privacy. In their book, she said she was reluctant to do anything on UA-cam to begin with because she thought everyone would figure out where they lived and other personal details. If you were blocked early on in the channel, it was probably because she still didn't trust/know how UA-cam works. It's still pretty extreme to block you for that though. Just a thought.
+Kevin Dumais So that's Mount Adams in the background?
wrangler dud is a joke...
Diresta... O mito!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Diresta, you make it look so easy! Thank you for sharing your talent for us to enjoy.
Why didn't you clean up the axe head? The handle is nice and clean, but the head is a bit dirty.
Thats what she said
OWNED!!!
Possibly for the contrast. But partly because he really likes rusty tools.
I like the look, it really is a good contrast. It's really up to the maker, both provide results of being pretty.
Normally I've got no problem with using an old axe head or whatever. But this time it would have been nice to see a new or fully refurbished to like new part.
How could people be commenting 2 days ago if it was released a minute ago?
Patron fans get to see early, thank you!
I like tequila, but you made ME wait?!
because math is myth
+jimmydiresta hey thats cool and all but u cant cut down a tree with that thing lol jk here that on the podcast
Aw I thought it was meant just to shave forearms...
Beautiful job as always Jimmy. Thanks for sharing.
This totally inspired me to (finally) make the handle for an M4 bayonet my grandpa gave me... I'm halfway through and am reminded of how skilled Jimmy is... Back to it...
wait you forgot to put your name on it!!!
question; if you made a steel handle, why not just weld the head on? i know youre not planning on using the hatchet ( which looks badass) every day but there looks like there are gaps around the wedge front and back. so it would work its way out eventually. or would it have been stronger to drill through the head and rivet it directly to the handle. seems like that would work on metal but not wood. i have a few old axe bits so i think ill try.
not an axe nerd, just an honest question.
Axe heads are a high carbon steel and can be hard to weld. Welds don't always hold up well to shocks, and can crack.
A pin through the side of the axe will loosen, because the hole in the side of the handle will oval out and become larger. Some do that with hammers and they never stay tight.
+Andre Gross thank you.
I was thinking why not press-fit the head on after heating it.
You would ruin the temper on the ax head. That and they are dissimilar metals, which don't weld together very well. You'd probably have to solder it together and that would ruin the temper as well.
Love how you are experimenting more with the camera angles now aswell. That above wide shot of you infront of your shop was fantastic.
Your not a maker, your an ARTIST!! Fantastic Work!! Beautiful time lapse shots aswell!! MUCH RESPECT!!!!
4:04 Is that a Rotten cheese?
How much for the Steel Hatchet my friend :)
csknives2140 bold of you to make such assumptions
that's one sweet small Axe, awesome work and one terrific work of art. Very old time "Bucks" wooden inlays looks sweet.
Just when I think I have a favorite Diresta build you put out a new video. Amazing as usual. Looks like it would be insanely comfortable to work with.
what is the purpose of heating the pins before inserting, I would think they would shrink as they cool and not fit properly.
razdrazchelloveck it's so he can hammer them into a rivet, or 'peen' them. The shrinkage you mention is minor, and by upsetting the metal he is compressing it down its length to make a tight joint. They used to put together ships hulls in a similar fashiob
Electric welding came into use in the early to mid 1900s, before that, any time two pieces of steel had to be joined, they used rivets, sometimes bolts and nuts, but mostly rivets.
When a hot rivet cools it gets tighter, pulling the metal together.

you are grit👌👌👌👌👌👌
Mizan Haker What grit? I like finer ones bit that's my opinion
I just keep watching your vids and pick up tips along the way that help in other projects. Awesome.
I started off with Make:.. Went on to Jimmy Diresta.. And now.. Its Jimmy -> Hammered -> Dirty Money -> Trash to Cash... Damn, I am hooked !!!
if you were a kid who had no tools and wanted to restore old rusty ones what would you buy first>?
Some crack.
sandpaper
Soak the tools on some white vinegar for a day or so. #jimmytip

Anti-rust? Sandpaper? Sandblaster?
I would use a friend's sandblaster, or buy a sandblasting nozzle for an air compressor.
Also, as a side note, you can buy tools, but you can't buy skill, so start with the small stuff.
Did you seriously forget to put your name on the axe?
Your attention to detail is awesome Jimmy, loved the chamfer to the inside of the bolsters, such a nice detail. Amazing and inspiring work as always.
I like that you left the head in used condition this time. nice contrast to the new handle.

That's a beautiful hatchet Jimmy. Wow
Damn! That looks fantastic, Jimmy! I do love that rosewood. Bet it feels nice and warm compared to that steel.
Respect, Brother!
I love your work and videos, Jimmy! Thanks for your inspiration.
Jimmy I'm scouring the "Island " for garage sales and old tools and stuff , as I stated in my first UA-cam video you and David have reignited the spark of creativity in me ... wow, your centre-lines always so great! you have a perfrect eye!
Beautiful handle. I really like the look of that wood when it's lighter and has a more walnut appearance to it. The real dark stain still looks quite good.
some beautiful work your doing . Awsome videos TY
Cool drone view and as always: amazing bandsaw skills.
The wooden wedge was my favourite part haha! You have the market cornered on beautiful axes my friend! Great build.
I don't know anything about blacksmithing but I really like that technique where you get the pegs red hot and then hammer them in to hold your pieces together
Always amazed at how quick the hair grows back on your arm! And at your skills of course!
The wood inserts really send this thing over the top. Really cool.
Gorgeous work! I especially enjoyed the shots of your property. It's a beautiful place
That is a VERY beautiful hatchet.
Beautiful, Jimmy!!
Man, I love this so much! I was worried when you drew it up that the curve where your hand goes would be too much, but I love it. Also, the little angular jog at the back of the head is a nice design with the angles in the axe head. Nice job!
Jimmy, do you knowhow much i learned from your vids? Thanks man for everything you do, Its been a pleasure watching true wizard at work :)
Seriously. That's gorgeous.
Beautiful craftsmanship i admire you work so much thanks for the great videos keep it up
