That shot with the knife sitting in the blade cutout was just too cool.
I can listen to someone using a rasp on a piece of wood all day and all night. it's soothing to my ears
You should make a cleaver out of the other half of saw blade. Always nice to have a matching set! :-)
Agreed
fuckery abounds More like always KNIFE to have a matching set ;D
super nice, Jimmy.
My 3 yr old girl will have a blast watching this one with me... ("Daddy, I want to watch Jimmy making a BIG knife" was a recurring theme a few weeks back). bzw, my kids love when you make signs too, tons of signs, with letters and numbers, yeah.
Keep on trucking ! (from France)
"That's not a knife this is a knife!"
Now THAT'S a knife.
Seriously Jimmy you deserve a medal. I watched all your videos.
Mr.DiResta, your one of the few guys that deserves putting his name on every thing he does.
Very nice workmanship.
I'm surprised the hair on your forearm even bothers growing anymore. Knife looks great!
Nice job Jimmy. Props for the respirator. I'm trying to use one more these days
Have too. I'd be spitting out steel for days. ...Ask me how I know ..,
Thank you alway brother!!
found this amazing channel a few days ago, subscribed straight away and haven't stopped watching it since, keep up the good work👍👌
How can anyone 'thumbs down' these videos, Naysayers abound on the interwebz! Keep up the excellent work Jimmy!
This guy must have the patience of a saint.
I'm sure Crocodile Dundee would agree..."Now, THAT'S a knife"!
The hand shaping of the handle was incredible! Great build
I've watched many of your videos, and your ability to look at what is and envision what could be is marvelous.
You're gonna piss off all the 50 year old sawmill blade nerds Jimmy, what are you doing! :P
Jimmy listens to jazz whilst making a badass knife.
Thanks for all the tips and the inspiration!
Brilliant work as always!
+johnnyq90 Did not expect you here
There was hair on his arm again, so time for another knife! ;-) Really awesome knife Jimmy, love it!!
I think I missed a step. How did the Diresta get on the side of the blade? Does all the material in his shop just slowly develop the marking now?
i have been watching diresta videos for over 3 years now they are really good
Impressive build and a GREAT video of the process! A rare combination of excellent skills, both a maker and a videographer. Very nicely done, thank you!
That is awsome, I was going to ask how much to buy one then I thought to myself what the heck get off your arse and make one yourself !
Wish me luck !
And thank you for another cool video.
hey Jimmy I love your videos, they help me a lot when I feel bad or had a rough day
how?
@@shablooey He imagines using them on people who ask too many questions.
Always a pleasure to watch.
WOW, beautiful work Jimmy
BADDDASSSS BLADE ! ! !!
GREAT WORK BROTHER.. I love your channel....;)-
Now THAT'S a knife.
+john papple I thought it was a spoon?
+One Poke Man I think he meant that this was a KNIFE and not a knife
A bowl of Miso soup
In my country we call that a spoon.
One Poke Man let me guess: Russia?
Omg I am in love with this man's work!
Great Work Jimmy, Always a pleasure to see your work. Thank you for sharing...
"now that's a knife" said in aussie accent. =]
Now thats a knife
I loved Jimmy works!!
Incredible Work Jimmy!!!
_"Now Thaut's a Knife."_
+Sulli11 *Noife ;p
Crocodile Dundee?
Noice noife mate
knoiwf*
its like one of those Halloween fake giant kitchen knifes only real
Excellent workmanship.
I can't stop watching these....
that is some hard wood on the handles.
also - it looks like an itchy and scratchy knife.
Freaking Sweet! I love the hidden Diresta in this. Was that intended or a happy accident?
+Peter Brown Yes!! i sprayed for instagram and was burned in the rust after heat treat!! thank you brother!
I am sure it was intended
+Long Island Survival silly FLID
Hey Peter, I love your channel! I was wondering if you could make a bench. Maybe make it out of pallet wood, or use something else.
Peter Brown happy accident
I like the subtle diresta etched into the blade
Wow - that was terrific - nice blade and thanks for sharing!
Does anyone else want the mill blade with the cut out to just hang on your shop wall
+Liberty Woodworking damn right!! LOL
Hell yeah
whoaaa... ichigo's mini zangetsu. hahaha
you just gave that piece of scrap a new life! I had always enjoyed watching your videos! NICE WORK Jimmy! :)
I am continually impressed by your craftsmanship. Also, these videos are extremely relaxing.
Agreed
this is like mini zangetsu
Jimmy just a little advice, when making a knife like this.. Where the handle and blade meet, there needs to be a radius, as the square section can cause what is known as stress risers in the steel. It doesn't have to me massive just a small radius with a round file prevents this take care and keep up the great work
+lbcustomknives agreed ..thank you!
+jimmydiresta no problem take care.
awesome as always Jimmy
I'm glad I SAW this video....I'm here all day.
сколько же у него шерсти на руках
...как и у любого другого мужика.
Ты девушка или малой? У мужчины всегда так было, те, кто бреют руки без причины, пусть еще и в жопу долбятся
+TheDarkvindetta idi nahoi
Now u have a knife to butter your toast😄
Love this approach! Always dig your knives
Killer Project, Thanks tons for sharin
Zangetsu ?
Weeb Alert.
the perfect watermelon knife
Fabulous knife and so expertly made and (frustratingly) you make it look so easy!
super relajante tus videos. gracias
What brand grinder is this? Or is it custom? I can't find anything like it online!
"Beaumont"
+jimmydiresta thank you. I've been trying to figure that out for like a year
+kevin condon I think they are pretty damn expensive, but it seems like it's the grinder most pro knifemakers (and metalworkers) use.
+EspenJ yea I just looked and over a grand for one ready to go
They're fairly common grinders used a lot by knife makers. Search for knife belt sanders. Wilmont grinders makes a nice one too
Old sawmill blade reicarnated to cut another day.
Another great work!
you are so professional. I appreciate your creation
He's ready for when the tomatoes attack.
getsuga tenshou
So cool man! So cool to think it was rusting in a field before this. Thank you for sharing bud! -Brian
Great knife!!! diresta!!!, love to see that bad boy in action. Keep up the awesome work!
@jimmydiresta no tempering after heat treatment?
That's what I was going to ask. Also, the steel did not look hot enough before quench. I love your work jimmy, but I am curious to know. why no temper?
+thermmaloverload yeah, me too Jimmy. Big Fan. Maybe the knife is just meant for decoration?
@@thermmaloverload Further up in the comments he stated that he did temper it, just didn't show it.
Why didn't you polish the knife completely? Aren't you going to use it in the kitchen or is it only for stabbing? :D
he'd never get away with murder with all the stencil tags he uses
O.J. is that you ? LOL
Jimmy once again proving that he is a master craftsman :))
Simply fantastic! Great man!
how long? how long until he has no more hair to shave off his arms?
You forgot to temper it!
If you check further back in the comments you will see that he did temper it, just didn't show it.
You are incredibly skilled. Good work
incredible work.good job.
Didnt see you temper that blade after hardening?????
+john smith easy mistake to make.
+john smith Wasn't that around 4:50 ?
+Brandon Darensburg No....At 4:50 he is hardening the steel which makes it very hard and brittle. It must be reheated after this at a lower temp to temper the steel and make it less brittle. Some put it in a toaster oven at 400F for 2 hours...other guys like to heat it with a torch until a desired color appears. Opinions vary BUT MUST BE TEMPERED or it will snap. Put an old file in a vice and hit it with a hammer and you will see....file will snap right in half.
+john smith did off camera. Just boring.
Oh wow i appreciate the clarification
Your poor arm hair. Will you ever let it grow?
kitchenmaiden81 because of knife sharp test when it be razor charp
he's Italian. it'll grow back in a few hours
juicy ducy my favorite comment ever
That plasma cutter works pretty well! Nice project video.
I love this kind of videos, this kind where you take old stuff to make new ones, or you repair like the Fireman AXE, or the old tools you polish, you should make more like this ones, or put them in a special list. Great work! big fan!
do the throne of GOT, that will be fucking epic
man, there is an inscription on your toilet paper "DiResta"???
Awesome as usual!
wow that knife is massive! very nice work jimmy.
guy must be really paranoid about people taking his stuff... does he put his name on everything?
mostly so when arseholes steal videos to repost them without giving credit his channel name is still in the video
+The Mad Hammer Oh. Well, that makes sense.
imagine if someone broke in and added "smells" after everywhere he wrote his name
Captain Obvious haha thats evil, or just a random insult after each one
Coke and Pepsi must also be paranoid about someone stealing their stuff, they put their name on everything!
Can I use this to trim my pubic hair?
Any knife is a shaving knife.. if you aren't a little bitch!
Every pizza's a personal pizza if you want it bad enough.
😂😂😂😂😂👌🏻
You can trim aloooooot more than that, my friend!
Great project !!
The Best method to learn something and fall asleep. Thanks for you videos.
