I never remember anyone in my life EVER said they were happy or glad to see me...So. I always made sure that my grandchildren heard that from me each and every time I saw them, even if for just a minute.....One day I heard my little granddaughter tell my little dog "I happy to see you"....So I was so happy to hear that....Now they are grown and I still tell them .....Even on the phone I will say I am happy to hear you.....I believe everyone should feel important to somebody, once in a while.....

TODAY, I would use a sentence. Help lift up the forgotten I took out a friend since we met in 1980. We were career woman until our life's journey took down different paths. My friend Mary is in a nursing home now for 5 years. She is in low place and I stepped up and took her to thrift stores and out to eat. I bought her some new clothes as she looked disheveled. My do I feel good I stepped out of myself to treat her. And forget about my burdens. It worked out great.

I would choose your words, but add one. Commitment! If I had committed my life to the Lord with all my heart, so many choices would have been different. I didn’t know him! I feared him and wanted to lead a moral life, and when I got to know him, I slid back by the world. There comes a time when you see he is your life! He is your hope! He is everything you need. Commitment to him is your shield! It is a path to wisdom. His word is a song, revelations, truth, packed with history, love, experiences, and a future! I want to hear him, so I listen, I talk to him, and I study his word. It is his voice that comes through and his Spirit that fills. I am his, and he is mine! Thank you Susan for a wonderful message!

I loved the memory that your friend shared about being on a train as a child with soldiers during the Korean war. Your friends words brought back my dad's words to me.

Susan, my mom and dad divorced when I was a little child. Mom always told me he didn't want children but she thought once she had me maybe he'd change his mind. He didn't. Later after years went by, he invited my family to his and my stepmom's house. Note: I had been there when I was 16. Long story. Anyway, while we were there my dad told me it was true he didn't want children. He didn't like the messy baby years but after that he loved having a daughter. He told me he was so proud of the woman I had become. And that he loved me very much. We planned our first Thanksgiving together for them to come to our house. But the week before, I received a call from my stepmom that my dad had died of a massive heart attack. I was so glad that I had forgiven him and we had a chance to talk.

My words are “not everyone has to like you”. I know I’m a people pleaser. It’s tough for me not to be. I worried for a long time if someone didn’t like me. I was in my forties when the thought popped in my head that not everyone has to like you. It was freeing. I also didn’t have to like everyone. I was taught to always get along with all. Many times people hurt me when I was growing up. Girls in school who I know now weren’t worth my time. People I worked with who I knew didn’t care for me. I would get a feeling they were just tolerating me. I didn’t do anything to them. I was always nice to everyone. I just suddenly realized I don’t have to like them. I would be pleasant enough but I didn’t have to talk to them. I wouldn’t waste my time worrying whether they liked me. My girlfriend would worry if someone didn’t like her. I asked her if they were important in her life. Of course she said no & I said then why care what they think? Those words helped her. Your video was beautiful. Seeing all the backroads & what was on them. Beautiful photography. Love you,Lucy

When you were talking about the lady that could not believe that her husband was dead , brought me back to the time when my brother was murdered. I was only 23 years old and I had to bury him on my own. My mother could not handle it and except it. At the time I chose to do a closed coffin because he was shot in the head. The day of the showing , which was just a gathering of friends and family to show respect to my parents , she could not handle it. She was emotionally distraught and kept saying that her son was not dead . So I had decided to get together with the funeral director to let her see her son before he was buried. It was against my better judgment but I could not let my mother go through her life thinking that maybe her son was somewhere out there and we never buried him. I’m not sure if he gave her any closure or not but me being so young , I think I did the best I could. I don’t think she ever got over his death. I hope though my decisions made it a little bit easier for her in her life. She’s gone now but I think about her every single day. She’s with my brother now and I hope she’s happy !

All your videos are just ripe with who you are and what your heart is made from and by whom. A minister once said that “tell your children everything about your childhood and life”, as that is how they will know who they are! When your time here on earth is done, what a gift you are leaving to them by all of your UA-cam videos that you have made over the years that you have been doing them. Every time. I realised one day that I had continued what she did with me with my children. I dropped my son off for something and he said Thanks Mom Love you! I responded with “I Love you More!” He always smiled when we do that. We said goodbye to mother last July at age 95. She passed in my arms at home. Your backroads footage brought back so many memories for me. Our mother was a painter and photographer and would often take us kids along with her when scouting out the backroads of our town in search of old abandoned farmhouses and barns to photograph as inspiration for her paintings. Sometimes we would make a day of it and pack a lunch of egg salad and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to eat as she would sit and sketch the country scenes to later paint. She would have enjoyed this video. I have five words that I have unfortunately just put into practice in the past few years. It's amazing how it can change the nature of a relationship ... Thought provoking. At nearly 67, I guess I don’t know me well enough for 5 words of definition. I have one...forgiveness. I must learn to accept the forgiveness of Jesus and forgive myself. That one word trips me up all of the time. I fail to achieve even just one day where I can say, Yeah, I did this one whole day correctly. But His mercies are new each morning, and I try again.

For me...it’s the same 1 word applied 5 ways that has been very impactful to how I live my life. The word is ‘choices’.
When I realized that in every moment, in every situation, I have a choice to make and that choice can impact me and impact others so I need to choose wisely, thoughtfully, and purposefully, not just be reactionary. As a result, more often than not I can extend grace to others and/or to myself.
These are the 5 areas of choices:
    ...my thoughts
    ...my beliefs
    ...my words
    ...my actions
    ...my responses to everything
    Blessings to you! 😊

The five words that changed my life and is still changing my life today is contrition, confession, penance, amendment, and receive! I never had complete joy in my life till I applied these five words! That same joy turns into love and action! We are not perfect people but with a little help we can be the best we can be! For me, forgiveness is either immediate or in cases of deep down in the soul wounds; a process. But it's always a choice. I heard someone say we can choose to 'be bitter or be better.'
I choose to be better. And what I've discovered is the root of unforgiveness is self-centered. Forgiveness I've found, is centered.

The five words for me are.
    Follow the yellow brick road.
As a child I would have a troubling dream over and over. Dreamed about a hyway, it was new and black with a shiny white stripe down the middle. I would be walking on it. Then it would start breaking up like pieces of a puzzle, floating away. I would be trying to grab the pieces to put them back together. At 41 I found JESUS and he showed me the golden path. I have followed the yellow brick road ever Sence. Been to many country's and am now 84years old this year, living in the middle east. Helping others to find Jesus and his road home. Happy, contented, comitment, faith, last of all JOY are my 5 words now. God bless all of you dear sisters.

HOME (the loving home, and small town where I was born and raised in Maine that will remain in my soul forever..first kiss, favorite swimming hole, football field, church, and cemetery where my elders lie). COURAGE (being brave through the ups and downs of life. Times i didn’t think I would survive. I am still here. I made it through. I am strong!). MEMORY (appreciating how very precious memories are. I can close my eyes and be back holding my new born baby boy, or at a concert with an old boyfriend, or my first day of high school, and memories sustain us when we have lost loved ones or parents or lovers. We are blessed with memory. Let us appreciate that gift. Especially when Alzheimer’s steals that joy from so many). FAITH ( as I get older, my faith in God deepens. All the things my parents instilled in me rise to the top as we age. What would we do without faith?). LOVE ( love is the most important thing in life. It heals...it sustains...it brings joy. Even when it breaks our hearts, it reminds us that we are alive)

I am glad you spoke about saying 'Forgive me' because I have learned of the difference between saying "I''m sorry" and "Please forgive me. "I am sorry" does not check for the reactions or feelings of the offended, whereas, "Please forgive me" is more healing because that person must actively affirm reconciliation, an extension of kindness from the wronged one. This is a game changer: Please forgive me. I use it with kids I work with, too, when they have troubles. Forgiveness is an active thing. So thank you for bringing that up.
My first word is 'Gratitude' because I went along many years not really thinking of this, especially after divorce when things were so hard. It was struggle, struggle, struggle. But, actually, I had a lot going for me. As you say, others had it much worse. Maybe I felt a little 'lucky' but had to go deeper to cultivate gratitude. That has been a game changer, too. Along with this, my fast pace sort of self-involvement, is 'Listen'. That takes time and: Humility. So I guess I have 4 now: forgive, gratitude, listen, humility. And, of course, love, SAYING "I love you" which we did not do in my family and still can make me feel funny to say it (Except to my daughters). Thank you so much for this video and exercise. Very heartwarming and reassuring and hope-engendering!!

Susan...this is by far, THE BEST video you've done!
So much wisdom, which is rare these days, it all spoke to my heart.
These are such important issues in life...about action vs. inaction, apathy vs caring...or that when you saw your little boy so happy after he saw Daddy and you moved out of your feeling of dejection and gave him a great big smile...You're not preaching...you are speaking universal truth.
I wish all people understood their history, both the good and the bad, for it makes up who we are, to either aspire to more or move beyond what was done and make our corner a better place for ourselves and the next generation.

Oh thank you Noelle! That means the world to me...I felt like maybe it was too much and then I realized that's sort of life for us at times...and that we can talk about these things....when you rote " apathy" you hit the nail on the head for me...I have been thinking about this so much. The art of not caring is something I want to leave behind for good. Just the power of a smile...losing all the other stuff and just letting love take over, well you wrote that beautifully....maybe some truths are just that...truth and a better way of living. I hope your new week is a great one Noelle...I so appreciate you understanding and sharing your thoughts! xxoo Susan & Desi

Five words... I have three words.. Three words that are simple, and three words that get tossed around that at times, have lost their meaning. A little back story: I grew up in a house that never said these words. In fact, a lot of opposite words were said to me for as long back as I can remember. I heard things like, "I hate you", "I wish you were never born", "I don't want to see you", "You're ugly", "I don't want you", "I hate you"... and on and on. So I vowed, when I was 7 years old, to never say things like what I heard. I grew up and I had 3 daughters. I told them I loved them from moment 1. They heard that constantly. They heard that they were wanted and that I was happiest being with them.. I still to this day tell them I love them every day. Now days it can be in a text! But I tell them, and they know. I now have 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. I always tell them I love them. Whenever I see them or talk to them, I never let that time go by where I don't say, "I love you". And they know that my three words, my "I love you" words are NOT meaningless. My three words don't even come close as to convey what is in my heart.
