This stuff was pretty hard at that time! Like many others of Metallica. Smart, fast and heavy. Even today it sounds pretty fresh and modern, not that old-fashioned like most metal bands of the past do. These guys were extremely talented!
@@galenmarek8287 Lars was pretty damned good for the time. Was he "great?" In terms of writing, I would have to say yes and he usually did it live perfectly for a couple of decades. Ultimately though, Lars influenced generations of drummers including Estepario Siberiano (i.e. guy you're listening to right now.) So...maybe, just maybe, Lars was a bit more "great" than what you're giving him credit for. After all, he still plays in one of the most influential metal bands that ever walked the planet and during the 80's and early 90's, his drum writing was brilliant. He never did too much and he never did too little. He accented everything correctly and filled in the spaces needed for Kirk to showcase his abilities and for James to layer the type of vocals needed to carry the music. Is he as good as the metal and jazz drummers of today? No. But, he was pushing the envelope when there weren't many bands making this style of music. So...he gets my respect and credit, even though I am damn sure he's not looking for it.
@@MichaelGrubbEvolvedMinistry I agree mostly. He’s just gotten lazy in the past few decades it seems. Before Metallica blessed us with “Load” I thought Lars was one of the better thrash drummers, though I was only 15 at the time. He and Kirk both seemed to have gotten complacent in their older days. It’s just fun to rag on Lars for the meme value though.
GREAT NOSTALGIC MEMORY. When I was a kid the only way to see a Guitar Center or Sam Ash was to go to the city... I'm in Chicago. I start playing the acoustic intro to Battery. ACROSS THE STORE someone begins playing the harmony, and we progress through the song.
Remeber Lars didn't have the influence of all the different types of metal that were created from the 90's to 2020's. This guy does. + never was this a contest.
After 35 years of rock/metal drumming, and being pretty damn good myself, the internet never fails to humble me lol. Considering Mr Siberiano is only playing a 4 piece kit, most times a 3 piece, he manages to make it sound like a stadium kit. Does more with less with ungodly skill.
Holy Shit Dude! One of the best covers I've watched, so precise etc, loved the double kick! I swear you had your eyes closed for most of it - that just shows how comfortable and confident you playing at that speed! Awesome work!
This kind of drumming makes the drums stand out. Lars' drumming made the song as a whole to stand out. Realize the difference between a show drummer and a music composer that created one of the greatest bands in the world ;)
OMG... the song was already great for over 30 years, but with your drumming style it's definitely next level!!! What a skills, what a speed, what a sound.... you're top of the bill EES!
Mad respect for every drum part Lars has written for HIMSELF. That being said, this guy is on a whole other level. He's reinvented drumming. He's the EVH of drums.
one valuable and always relavant aspect in music I learned while dabbling in rock mixing/tracking/playing bass/live shows.. etc.. "Cymbols are the glue of the rhythm and bass and drums" .. Lars nails that. But after saying that, I'm a bassist and Cliff Burton was the fuckin man back then
I just discovered you about a month ago, and lemme tell ya - I can't think of any other drummer who can do what you do. You are an absolute percussion God. Just incredible. Cheers from Toronto, Canada!
People need to realize how brilliant this song is for what it brought to the drumming world and for metal too. This was game changing. Give Lars all the credit he disserves! Also sick cover my man!
El Estepario Siberiano, I have been listening to heavy, thrash, speed and other types of metal for over 30 years, but thanks to your performance, the songs I grew up with have a new, better sound again. Thanks!
thats so fucking amazing to see, started playing drums half a year ago and i still have to highly concentrate myself on playing weezers undone, this looks so effortless (but yeah i know how much practise this needs to be that precise). simply amazing and inspiring...
Eargasam....plain and simple . That pre solo is just a mind wipe in disguise then you followed it up by the blazing speed of the double base...just an absolute joy to hear. I know Lars did an amazing job in this song but you brought out the best sound. Love this!!
Na Dave Lombardos live version was sick. When it got to the double kick section Rob Trujillo was so stoked you could see the look in his face like "Finally this part is played right."
When Robert came in 1st thing in the morning to try out...They went straight to Battery. Out of the gait. Trujillo anyone? Jason...you will always be the GOAT.
Mind Blown, to any young aspiring drummers out there, look at this prime example of what you can achieve by working your ass off and dedicating yourself to the art. 🤘

You make it look so easy, keep rocking. You're on top of your game. Your style is unique and one of a kind . Hope to see you in some major music videos soon.
This is why I actually like Lars. He doesn't tend to go too far out there on fills. For him, it's about how good the song can sound as a whole, not useless little drum fills that are fun to play for a drummer, but take away from the song.
THANK YOU! I find it so unreal how people nowadays keep saying he is bad. As a guitar player, Lars is perfect because he soon realized that he can make everyone in the band shine instead of going overboard with it; I can actually hear the guitar parts better in any metallica song compared to other metal bands. And yet, he still finds places to make his own style and ideas show up.

I so much enjoyed listening to this! The dude is an amazing drummer! The song sounds like it is reborn!
I love how Lars's drums are right inside the songwriting. You are blasting that thing!
Es así. Suena muy mal en comparación a la versión original 😂😂😂😂
2:45 whole new levels of ridiculously awesome.
I’ve never seen anyone play as smooth as this guy and yet hit the drums so hard at the same time. So good!!!
That’s got a LOT to do with triggers and post-processing. This guy is an amazing drummer regardless though.
@@artmpowers what do you mean? Triggers are use in post processing?
You can see his technique. It has nothing to do with triggers
Eloy Casagrande. Eloy plays crazy hard and fully in control.
He's not hitting hard he just turned up the volume. Eloy you can say he hits hard..
This stuff was pretty hard at that time! Like many others of Metallica. Smart, fast and heavy. Even today it sounds pretty fresh and modern, not that old-fashioned like most metal bands of the past do. These guys were extremely talented!
This drum take brings this song to a whole other level. So massive. Awesome job!
Perfect example why the "simple" drumming of Lars fits better!
@@justanotherbeautiful5736 perfect example of “What if Metallica had a great drummer all along?”
Sounds much better with Estepario drumming 🤷🏻♀️
Your technique is flawless - and the drums are tuned perfectly for this song. Sounds amazing!
damn, the flavor added to the bridge (2:20 to 2:45) sounds so good
Damn right!
Jesus man, took this song to another level. You make it look so effortless!
Дружище,это невероятно!!!Не думал,что и в без того крутую песню,одними лишь барабанами можно вдохнуть столько огня💥🎸👊
I think if you played drums like this live with Metallica the venue would literally explode.
If he played like this live with Metallica Lars would quit or be fired. Lol
If he played like this live with Metallica 50% would be "where's Lars" an 50% wouldn't notice, because Metallica fans...
@@antares4975 *sigh...yeah

Remeber Lars didn't have the influence of all the different types of metal that were created from the 90's to 2020's. This guy does. + never was this a contest.
My ears are hallucinating. Unreal. So so good.
You made Metallica sound modern in just 4 Minutes. Your musicality on the drums is absolute insane ...
Thank You !!!!
Very true
Modern.......hmmm.........
Thats not even playing drums anymore thats straight magic absolutely marvelous
Holy Shit Dude! One of the best covers I've watched, so precise etc, loved the double kick! I swear you had your eyes closed for most of it - that just shows how comfortable and confident you playing at that speed! Awesome work!
This kind of drumming makes the drums stand out.
Lars' drumming made the song as a whole to stand out.
Realize the difference between a show drummer and a music composer that created one of the greatest bands in the world ;)
Yeah, awesome drummer but a tad overplayed on this one. Drums were lost...
Lars is much more than a simple drummer, he can outsell Taylor Swift, no other band today can say that
This is for fun, he never said that this is what the song should be like.
@@jd0879 Imagine getting this mad over people having fun with music. Hope your day gets less miserable.
Yeah…I like Estepario’s version better
Easily the best drummer I've seen on YT... Clean as F*** ... Truely hidden talent. Well done sir...
I like this arrangement better than the original. Congrats. This is sheer dynamite.
This guy damn he is perhaps I'd have to say one of the greatest drummers I've heard
This is my all-time favorite Metal song, I like to see different versions on drums giving it an even more aggressive edge.
OMG... the song was already great for over 30 years, but with your drumming style it's definitely next level!!! What a skills, what a speed, what a sound.... you're top of the bill EES!
That fill at 2:45! So good! Thanks for the video!
Totally insane!
my brains still not sure what's going on there, but it likes it.
I was expecting some crazy fill but that was utterly insane.
Mad respect for every drum part Lars has written for HIMSELF. That being said, this guy is on a whole other level. He's reinvented drumming. He's the EVH of drums.
What a joke
No, I totally agree

Simple? Lmao😂
simple drumming haha
Lars part is simple not El Estepario part :)
That's exactly what he's saying but the song sounds better without this much drumming. @@lowfps4591
one valuable and always relavant aspect in music I learned while dabbling in rock mixing/tracking/playing bass/live shows.. etc.. "Cymbols are the glue of the rhythm and bass and drums" .. Lars nails that.
But after saying that, I'm a bassist and Cliff Burton was the fuckin man back then
That was the most kick-ass drum cover of Battery I've ever watched. You're wicked man! That was excellent.
Also sick cover my man!
i saw many drummers who cover Metallica, but this is a really badass drummer, so precise movements and right to the point. Amazing!!!!
Not as good as Lars tho
Agree, love this dude. But have you seen Raùl Fernández’s Battery “Extreme Metal” version? Also check Josh Steffen, heaps of Metallica and Slayer 🤘
Eloy Casagrande too.
WOW...I'm convinced this fella made a midnight deal down at the crossroads, his playing is sensory overload, no one can touch this guy !!!
El Estepario Siberiano, I have been listening to heavy, thrash, speed and other types of metal for over 30 years, but thanks to your performance, the songs I grew up with have a new, better sound again. Thanks!
I have just witnessed greatness. Especially loved the ride part before the awesome fill around 2.50. Mind. Blown.
Love or hate metal (and I love), it without doubt contains the most technically brilliant musicianship on the planet. This is truly spectacular! 👏
in one very small slice. every genre has it's masters.
Nah, that'd be jazz. I'd love to see him play Caravan for example.
Searching for a drum cover I found a "See how it should be done, Lars" version.
Fuc*ing amazing
30 years later, this just made the song fresh again

This is literally the best this song has ever been drummed in the history of this song

Better than when Dave Lombardo played it?
Na Dave Lombardos live version was sick. When it got to the double kick section Rob Trujillo was so stoked you could see the look in his face like "Finally this part is played right."

The best version still is lars’s version. He’s got his own style. No trigger, better dynamic with n my point of view. Trigger kills drummer

is a HUGE fan of Metallica. And have to say, your drumming is on fire, making this even better
