Well I hope you’ll come back to ME2 and 3. The game play and character interactions improve with each game and the story remains great. I’d be down to watch each.
Guys, this is not a generic game series. Whatever you chose in this game will come back in the next ones. Developers made different cutscenes and recorded different dialogs for EVERY choice lol. so whatever you chose is CANON.

Your criticisms are valid, I really liked the game and it has its charms, but I had a lot of the same issues with it, but as we've said before, the others are far better (and some of my favourite games).
A lot of your concerns regarding the game will be addressed; the major side quests, the repetitiveness, and the interactivity will all be significantly better in the other games.
And I'm glad you liked the character moments already 'cause the character depth and story elements will also be significantly better.
I'm glad you also enjoyed the game overall, esp the last stretch of the game, 'cause those are easily my favourite parts too. I'm confident you guys will like the other two games a *lot* more, and I can't wait for you guys to play the rest of the series (whenever that may be), there are great things in store for you!
As for the consequences to your choices, there certainly are consequences. Some will not have as much of an impact, and some choices will have a huge impact on the entire series.
Your choices carry over and come into play throughout the series; in minor and significant ways. That will be infinitely more evident in the other games, where your choices will absolutely shape how your story will unfold.
Thank you for this incredibly thorough playthrough! Loved the banter and the commentary, greatly appreciated hearing your thoughts. Can't wait for ME2, hearing your thoughts during the other games will be *immensely* interesting!
1:14:28 This part right here is when I knew I was in for something special with regards to the rest of the series. That whole conversation with Vigil + the Vigil soundtrack elevates this game to greater heights, and scratches my brain in all the right ways, it's so good!
It answers a lot of your questions in the most captivating way whilst also leaving you wanting for more.
Realising the sheer scale of it all, and the magnitude of all that's to come is nothing short of remarkable, and learning more about the Reapers and the Protheans for the first time at Ilos is mesmerising
One of my favorite things about the decision to save or sacrifice the council is that your squad will argue for or against either option based on their Paragon/Renegade alignment in relation to each other. In your case Wrex argues for sacrifice because he is more renegade than Garrus, but if you had brought Garrus and Liara than Garrus would have argued for sacrificing the council
Normally Wrex is the most Renegade, and Liara is the most Paragon, but an interesting thing happens if you romance Ashley/Kaiden as an opposite morality alignment to them is that you have the option to sway their opinions and potentially make either Ashley the most Paragon or Kaiden the most Renegade, so you could have scenarios where Ashley argues for saving the council and Liara argues for sacrificing the council. Or have Kaiden argue for sacrifice and Wrex argue for save.
The possibilities in the Mass Effect universe are numerous and wild
Shepard's smile after the battle is making me weepy every time! ME1 ending is just so satisfying and interesting. I've never done the "let council die" choice, but this will be interesting to see how it plays out in your playthrough!

I thought it was so freakin' cool when they revealed that statue of the Mass Relay in the Citadel turned out to be an actual Mass Relay!!
That Kaidan scene had me crying 😂 I can’t believe you guys made me a Kaidan fan 😅 tysm, this was such a fun play-through! Looking forward to ME2 down the line 😊

I was NOT expecting that decision near the end 😂😂 interested to see how that turns out cause I've never seen anyone make that decision before. Seeing that giant ship full of the councils crew get abandoned and blown up was hard to watch though 😭 I felt so bad for them.
I do it just for the nice bright flash

Doctor Michel’s side quest unlocks after you talk to her after you save her, so you could have done the quest the first time you were on the Citadel. When Shepard asks Anderson about Banes, Anderson says that Banes is dead; his body was found on a derelict ship by Admiral Kahoku’ men. And that would have activated the quest UNC: Missing Marines, which you’ve already completed

The story really takes off at the end of 1 and it’s just full speed ahead for the rest of the series. The other games are way more streamlined and polished. Hopefully you get to ME 2 sooner than later. Watching people give up on the series after the first game is like that meme where the guy stops digging right before hitting diamonds. I enjoyed your play through and your reactions and thoughts on the game. See ya in the next one.
Don’t worry your not locked into a relationship you can move on in the future games 😂 cannot wait to watch ME2 as that’s my personal favourite of the 3 🎉

the game doesn't really explain this well but the "sacrifice the council" option also means that the crew of about 10.000 asari on the destiny ascension die as well :'(
as far as i remember saving the council leads to just a few hundred humans dying. so aliens would definitely look at this situation as humans being selfish
From what I’ve seen I think the this is how the save or let the council die choices work.
Saving the council gives you a lot of paragon (28 paragon)
Letting them die give you a lot of renegade (29 renegade)
And Concentrating on sovereign give you a mixture of both with maybe a bit more renegade (8 paragon and 9 renegade)
And no matter what Anderson will say you did the right thing😂

If you are renegade, the music and tone of Udina are completely different. Concentrating was a neutral way of making a "logical" decision that wasn't inherently evil.
A recent TV show review talked about the concept of the "unreliable narrator" and with that fresh in mind while watching your playthrough, I noticed a number of times where things spoken with confidence were just wrong. Which I see as the same thing in a video game - like you just presume that it's the game using the characters to give the player exposition on the facts of this universe, it's devious when it's misleading. Like Anderson, so sure that that Saren was targeting humanity specifically, makes us stop looking for an alternate explanation for the plot until Sovereign's big reveal. Folks, including the codex narrator, letting us know the Protheans built the Citadel. Shepard dismissing the "jamming" signal on Eden Prime. The security commander on Noveria. That one, my best understanding is that he isn't even lying. There was mention of an additional elevator that Shepard never has access to I think. My best understanding is that she had returned to the quarantine lab without that commander's knowledge was all. I know there were others I've already forgotten. Probably the explanation regarding research assistant Manuel on New Eden (my personal assumption is that he triggered the the beacon also, and it drove him mad; he's described as being the one who found it or extracted it or something, and later Liara, I think, says to Shepard something about her having a remarkable mind for being able to absorb the contents of the beacon without ill effect)
Anywho, looking forward to seeing you take on ME2 when you're ready. Hope you enjoy it!
Fun play through. ME2 is a very different game. Not my favourite personally, but generally considered to be the best in the series by most fans, so I think you'll have a blast with that one. And yeah, there is no universal "canon" decision at the end there. For better or worse, whatever you choose there will dog your footsteps throughout the whole trilogy!
Your reaction to the Kaiden scene made it 10x better 😂 Even as a Kaiden fan, your journey with his romance (really with just him as a character let's be honest) was a delight lol Truly a love story for the ages.
You have finished the world building section of the trilogy, now you have the opportunity to play the next two games which are way more fun and engaging. Most everyone finds the second game to be one of the best games ever.

Mass Effect 2 is the best one. Peak storytelling and companions. Better romance than Kaidan and Liara in there hihi. Can't wait to watch :)

I always found that Garrus line calling you 'human' was out of character. Really enjoyed your playthrough and I'm excited for whenever you start ME2! I hope you liked it!

Well done completing the game and I hope the wait isn't too long until ME2. I think you only missed landing on a couple of planets (a monkey infested world and one where you learn the purpose of the 'trinket' that the asari Consort gave you for helping her with the Turian general). I usually save the Council, not because I like them but because the Destiny Ascension is the most powerful ship in the Citadel fleet and has a crew of 10,000 asari .
Illos map is very confusing. Even on replay, I get lost repeatedly. It's small, but it all looks the same and becomes hard to navigate and remember where you've been or where you are trying to get to.

So Captain Anderson just says that Banes is dead. Not much else there.
ME1 gameplay is definitely dated but it is so important in establishing the world and the threat of the Reapers.
I'm pretty sure you guys did all of the side content. So yeah it is a lot and it's a common criticism of the first game.
I generally focus on Sovereign so the council usually dies in my playthrough. I play Paragon and try to work with the council, but my reasoning is that Shepard has no way to know if they sacrifice war ships to save the ascension that they will be able to defeat Sovereign afterwards. It's too risky, and it makes more sense to focus all resources available on Sovereign.
And yes, your decisions will carry over. Also, ME2 is much more action packed, and at times the game will force you to progress.

ME2’s gameplay is more traditional action shooter
Most people dislike ME1’s gameplay but I really like its unique blend of classic RPG & action shooter
ME3 has, in my opinion, the best gameplay; it’s a nice balance between action & RPG

Great job on completing ME1. No spoilers: ME2 has a lot of quality of life things that fix the game. It’s more organized. It’s my favorite out of the 3 trilogy. Can’t wait to see what you think. It’s going to be a wild ride from here on out

Don't feel too bad about the Council, I can see the reasoning behind both choices. It's a bit of a tough one; letting many humans die to save the Council doesn't sound great, but the Council represents the entire galactic governing body, and their importance simply can't be understated.
At the same time, the Council can always be replaced with new prominent members. With humanity not having the best reputation in the galaxy in ME1, one would think that saving the Council would also do wonders for humanity's reputation, but as we saw at the end, people were impressed with what Shepard did regardless, and she greatly contributed to garnering a positive reputation for the humans, so much so that they urged humans to be on the Council, so you're good on that front
Curiosity: did you notice that the Council Chamber is shaped like a reaper (check from map...)?

The pacing of the story is better if you only do the side-quests that directly intersect with the main story. In other words, don't do any side-quests that require you to go too far out of your way so that you can mostly stick to the main quest. The only exceptions would be crewmate loyalty missions and the DLC. Most of the side-quests are half-baked because Bioware got in over their heads and just didn't have enough time or resources to achieve on their goals. Most of the side-quests are conceptually interesting but slap-dash and repetitive in execution.
Would love to see you guys do a huge playthrough of Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas I think you would enjoy either of them (New Vegas maybe moreso)
ME2 is quite a bit different. And better. Your choices do matter.....good luck!

The final conversation after defeating Sovereign changes not only because of your decisions but also because of morality alignment; if you are Paragon the scene takes place on the brightly lit presidium, if you are Renegade on the other hand the scene takes place in the darker, more moodily lit Citadel Tower.
If you save the Council as a Paragon, they will be laud the noble sacrifice of the Alliance ships that were destroyed in battle with Sovereign, and offer humanity a seat on the council. If you save the council as a Renegade they will praise your ruthless determination; traits that they at first disliked but now see as a strength, and they will offer humanity a seat on the council.
You’ve seen the Paragon Sacrifice The Council. And the Renegade version is mostly the same with the exception that Udina sounds even more like a despot in the making 😂

You’ll be happy to hear that the side quests are less numerous going forward, there’s still a lot of them though 😅
Also the N7 side quests in ME2-IMO-are inessential and unless I need extra credits I usually skip them because I find them even more boring than ME1s N7’s endless barren monochromatic landscapes
The council decision is hotly debated but the way the game presents it is a bit skewed. The truth is you are deciding between losing some Alliance ships to save the rest of the Citadel Fleet or just lose most of the Citadel Fleet, not between saving the council or defeating sovereign. This is why the "human" line by Garrus is kind of out of place but so cutting, you are essentially choosing to save all of the human fleet and kill the Turian & Asari ones. I think in the heat of the moment and the way the game portrays it, it definitely seems like it makes more sense to abandon the council.
This game definitely shows it's age, 2 & 3 feel much more like they could have come out a few years ago and change the gameplay up a lot. The side quests and characters get way better, and most (I won't say all because there a couple of holes with some side stuff) of your choices carry through. Side quests in the next games are actual quests the same way "main" ones are in this (although format is definitely a bit different), not just driving around to fetch stuff.
People are very very very likely to spoil & backseat a lot of stuff in ME2 in particular, telling you that you have to do x y z in that order, "don't forgot to do A before B or bad things will happen!", etc, so just be weary. I see it in the comments of EVERY playthrough I have ever seen.
This is exactly what I feared in terms of the fanbase not allowing them to make their own mistakes and deal with the consequences... it's part of the charm with a series like this. Not sure of there's a way around this though, too many comments will be telling them what and what not to do.

I know I was shocked😂 highly doubly they’ll continue that romance since there’s a certain romance that’s everyone’s favorite for FemShep in the next game.
I know this is your choice but don't romance with keiden in future...he is one of the worst. But great companion and friend though.
consider playing LA Noire.
A detective game that has a great story and will keep you engaged unlike ....... cough... cough.... mass effect. I understand mass effect has a huge fan base ...i just dont get it.
You'd probably "get it" if you watch the playthrough and see what they're enjoying about it. RPGs like this can be enjoyed for a few reasons, whether it's the gameplay, building up your character's powers and skills, the choices one gets to make as Shepard, getting attached to the characters or even just the odd quirkiness of the franchise. I personally love the lore of this franchise and I'm generally a sucker for good sci-fi as well. I played L.A. Noire, thought I would like it, I just found it boring so I never ended up finishing it... different strokes for different folks I suppose.
